Wicked is BY far my favorite musical. I had the privilege to see the original cast in 2003 and have seen it a total of nine times. This video is awesome, and I have watched so many. You can really see the lighting and effects. Plus, this lady is wondrous and magical as Elphaba! She has such a crystal clear, velvety voice. Yet, she is also powerful and knows how to create dynamics and lyric painting. I also love that we can really hear the horns/brass section going to town. I love this video so much! Yay!
This. This here is why i love Elphaba, Wicked, and stage shows in general. Anyone can play the characters. Elphaba is meant to be played by more than one person. Stage shows are designed to be passed down. Watch a stage show. The character is the most important part, because they must live on. The show must go on!
Well to behonest, Idina is a actor who sings. So she's definitely good but not the best when it comes to vocals. Willemijn Verkaik was amazing, you kinda did her dirty with that clip. There are way better clips out there. Not to mention she played Elphaba in The Netherland, Gemany, England and Broadway. 4 different countries. Ya can't top that. Aaaand she also played Dutch and German Elsa... so.... I just love her idk

I know Idina originated the role, but I've never been a fan. Lea is singing a semi-tone lower than the original. She is using too much full voice and vibrato which makes it a challenge to navigate the belt in the original key. Also noted Amanda Harrison and Rachelle Ann Go also sang it a semi-tone lower. My picks for best vocals are Stephanie J. Block, Willemijn Verkaik (both times!), and Park Hye Na. Park's was a concert version, and I didn't research if she's ever played the role, but if she hasn't, she should, that was pretty spectacular!

It is abundantly clear that every performer in the role of Elphaba, instead of living up to the character being portrayed, is attempting to live up to the performance of Idina Menzel, and this is simply not possible. Idina played that role so perfectly that it is impossible to separate her from the character. I had the privilege of seeing this play at the Gershwin Theatre in New York with Idina Menzel, Kristin Chenoweth, Joel Grey, and Carol Kane--a night I'll never forget.
That's...simply not true. The blatant disregard other performers have put into the iinterpretation of the role aside, technically SJB is the blueprint for the role. Not Idina.

It is abundantly clear that every performer in the role of Elphaba, instead of living up to the character being portrayed, is attempting to live up to the performance of Idina Menzel, and this is simply not possible. Idina played that role so perfectly that it is impossible to separate her from the character.
I had the privilege of seeing this play at the Gershwin Theatre in New York with Idina Menzel, Kristin Chenoweth, Joel Grey, and Carol Kane--a night I'll never forget.
That's...simply not true. The blatant disregard other performers have put into the iinterpretation of the role aside, technically SJB is the blueprint for the role. Not Idina.
