No kidding that is my favorite part of this show. I’m an avid true crime listener and sometimes it takes me half the episode to start recognizing the case
I think we all love the narrator for the spotless delivery in every episode. But can I take a second to applaud the research and writing that goes into these episodes? The intro-with-a-cliffhanger approach hooks me on every case. Good job, Casefile. As to this crime- holy smokes. How in the world did these two think no one was going to get suspicious of one, two, three, four deaths in one family characterized by the same symptoms? Doesn't matter if its 'undetectable'- people are going to become suspicious. Especially if you're chillin and happier than you've ever been AND there's life insurance involved. I get the sense that Diane favoured Rachel because Rachel looked like her and was obviously willing to do some things that an actual human wouldn't. And the reasons they gave for murdering their family- because they're BURDENS? What do you think a family is? And I would never sneer at the misgivings of a truly spiritual or religious person, but WHY do so many of these terrible people hide behind a mask of 'good church goer, good Christian'? I know people like that in real life- biggest turds in the bowl, but as long as you say you're Christian, you're the last one suspected of causing trouble. Again, no offense to anyone with those values or beliefs but it's a great mask for monsters.
Yeah well. It's all some people know sometimes. So it would then be normal for that person. It's taken me a long time to deal with confrontation better, and expressing my feelings and thoughts in tense situations like that. I swear sometimes if I'm somewhere and people are really really arguing, I feel like a little boy all over again. Good times
You can be damn sure I wouldn't be so forgiving!! It's mind blowing how brazen they were, as if nobody would twig that something was amiss and they could just go on 'as normal' leaving a trail of dead family members. Just goes to show being a Christian has nothing at all to do with being a decent human being. Those 2 were pure evil.
Exactly, being of any religion doesn't have anything to do with your ethics. In fact, sometimes it is used to excuse yourself of any guilt or wrongdoing.
Virtue signaling, sociopaths attempting to fool others into thinking they are admirable - along with moralistic hypocrisy - occurs among secular and believers alike.
It's extremely hard to forgive for something this aweful, but when you do, it sets you free. Forgiveness isn't for the people who have wronged you. It's for yourself. It gives you more peace to forgive than to keep letting bitter and angry feelings forever sit in your soul. Eventually, it'll pour over in other areas of your life in negative ways.
I think partially what confuses me is when 5 people say forgiveness, they all have different definitions of the concept but think they're on the same page. Some people mean it as actually forgiving the offender entirely, others mean forgiving the offender for being the one to hurt them but still think their offender is wrong, and so on. It's hard to wrap my head around.

And when she went to court , she had to put on a leg brace that would lock up if she tried to walk too quickly! She never got sick while she was in jail! So the jail didn't have to deal with her leaving the pod for that! Her religion services came to her, a one on one in the pod with a spiritual leader! Diane is such a hypocrite!

Mother & daughter are right where they belong. Even though the daughter was groomed by the mother. Rachel is just like her mother! I understand very well the control & power a narcissistic parent has over the child. A victim, yes, but also a willing participant. She knows the difference between right & wrong. Not participating could've saved her brother & fathers lives. Telling someone, anyone! Its the lack of empathy, compassion, remorse or guilt. That could allow this young girl to go along with killing her father & brother. Qualities which make the rest of us human! Tragic all the way around! Excellent narration as always! Oh. My. God! This is horrifying! 😰 I'm sorry but Rachel is clearly a psychopath if you ask me. Grooming is one thing, but she said her siblings had "no purpose"! Wtf, that is seriously sick! All o can say is i hope they're both haunted. I don't believe in ghosts but i hope they do and i hope they feel haunted. Because i doubt they can feel remorse, only sorry they got caught.
You presented this horrible tragedy completely and factually. Murderers like this, for financial gain and meaness always go too far. They get away with murder and then murder again and again, becoming more overt until they just go too far. If she'd have stopped with her husband and son she'd have gotten away with their murders. You don't mention the youngest child, except to state early on, I think, that she had learning disabilities. What became of her, with all her immediate family dead or in prison? Were there extended family members who took her in, or did her bad luck hold and she entered the foster care system?
