Thanks for the suggestion! I did end up taking the elms and the pine and then all the Ficus. The event had a great turnout and and I had a great bonsai conversation with many interested folks. Thanks for your viewing support!
No I would say "CHOPPIN IT!" but you're not far off. I would shoot for the moon with your best trees BUT maybe one from each "category"? Like Elm #1 for a deciduous, Pine #2 for the coniferous and then maybe one of the ficuses for the tropical category? I think you're right to play to the amateur (or less) audience and give them the range of bonsai can be. Most people think the word "bonsai" means "dying juniper branch in an ugly pot purchased from a mall kiosk" so seeing nice variation of species would be good.
The event had a great turnout and I was a little surprised at how many people have tried their hand in bonsai. There was actually some conversation about bonsai trees bought from little white vans that set up on corner lots. If I can find the time I'm sure I could get a local club started. I ended up taking the elms and the Ficus and the little pine. I think I'm going to spend the day with trees and try to shut out the rest of events of the day. Not really feeling the the day this year. As always i appreciate your viewing support and comments.
Nice updates on your trees, good sir.
I vote both Elms, and the medium pine. Especially if those grow near you in the wild.
