** Can I donate a whisk(e)y for you to review in The Whisk(e)y Vault?
Of course! If you’re interested in making a tax-deductible donation towards our whiskey selection, head on over to:
    austinwhiskyvault.com/whisky-d...
    ** What's with the necklaces?
Rex is a whiskey mooch. His necklace is a manifestation of pure glory - forged from the irradiated bones of eagles and wolves. Also a tube sock.
See the origin story here: goo.gl/JMc2Hr
Daniel is a whiskey sommelier. His necklace is a token of his sommelier level, and he trains whiskey sommeliers at The Whisk(e)y Marketing School in Austin Texas.
    **A Whisk(e)y school?
Yup. Here are a few things we believe.
** You don’t have to be a snob to appreciate and love great whiskey.
Whisky and Whiskey (it depends on where it’s from) have been an important part of cultures around the world from time immemorial. Whiskey is a part of the very fabric of Western society, and in most places, is as common and accessible as beer.
Like Jazz and wine, snobs have predictably hijacked whiskey appreciation, spoiling our natural, common connection with it and creating a false dichotomy of “good whiskey” and “bad whiskey.”
It’s time to break through the emotional bias with facts and science. That’s what this school is about.
** The only valid definition of “good” whiskey is “whiskey you like to drink.”
Learning how to share your love of whiskey in a way that connects people to the history and the story has more to do with public speaking and storytelling than it does with facts and tests.
The best way to learn about whiskey and share that love is to drink whiskey and talk about it with friends. Study the history, find the stories, and discover the culture and the methods that have been developed over hundreds of years. That’s what you’ll do when you attend The Whisk(e)y Marketing School.
** You don’t need a marketing degree to learn how to share your love of whiskey with the world.
There's an old saying, "In business, it's not what you know... It's who you know."
Regardless the industry you're in, most people are clumsy and ineffective when it comes to "networking" because they ignore a very important rule - Relationship First, Business Second.
There's a tremendous amount of curiosity about Whisk(e)y today. It's a great excuse for you to gather a group of people who want to have fun and learn something new. The Whisk(e)y School teaches you how to tap into that curiosity, and share your love of whisk(e)y in an unpretentious way. You're demonstrating knowledge, expertise, and an engaging personality - things valued by every gatekeeper, in every industry.
Or would you rather hand out business cards and cross your fingers?

I was able to get my hands on some E150a coloring. I wanted to sample it to see if it actually had a taste that I could pick up in some whiskeys. Come to find out it doesn't have any flavor and all I did was dye a little on the inside.

Thanks for the reviews and tips. I started trying to drink Irish whiskey, and realized I've been just telling myself it's good, when in reality I can just drink it and not be bothered like I use to. Tried makers mark today, and hot damn now I know what it's like to enjoy a whiskey. Thanks for producing such badass videos.

Hey Rex, I think that dark honey flavor you describe could be Fleeceflower honey. You can normally find it from smaller honey merchants. It’s boasts a dark roasted flavor almost reminiscent of a dark maple syrup. It’s a flavor I find in whiskey as well.

The commentary on ABV for these rare and expensive scotches is spot on.. We have multiple $300+ bottles that are watered all the way down to 40% at the store I work at, and all I can think is "Who in their right mind would ever pay for that when there are cheaper, equal quality bottles with higher proofs?" Hell, even Glenfiddich's 50 year (or whatever their oldest bottling is) that retails for over $20,000 is watered down to 40%!

Nerd Alert: Rex, the honey you are thinking of is most likely forest honey...It is darker than regular flower nectar honey, with bolder, deeper, richer, but also more varying flavours. It is made in fact from forest aphids eating tree sap, when they've had their fill they excrete the rest, this is what the bees collect off of trees from which to make said forest honey. It is less prone to crystallisation as it is lower in glucose and has higher mineral content. It's personally my favorite honey as I can't eat flower honey since I stuck my hand in the flowered honey jar as a 10 yr. Old, and was reduced to toilet hugging after. Why I stay away from Dalwhinnie and Balvenie type whisky.

I saw at Costco here in Albuquerque they had the Macallan Rare Cask priced at $225 and they also had the Glenlivet XXV priced at $230 and I was thinking about maybe getting one of them. Since I'm not to familiar with either which one would you guys recommend? Also if you have suggestions for other bottles in that price range for me to look at please let me know

You guys should definitely do Tincup American Whiskey. It is a high Rye Bourbon from Colorado cut with water from the Rocky Mountains. It's getting really good reviews and I just believe it's getting overlooked as it is advertised as an outdoorsman whiskey giving the impression that it is not very friendly but in reality is the opposite.

The full speech about Macallan is so true. I am not the biggest fan of their stuff because it is all very overpriced and you can get better whisky for similar/cheaper prices. However, they do always seem to make easily drinkable whisky. Good watch guys. Keep it up.

I love Macallan. I have tasted many Glendronach`s, Aberlour, Edradour und so many other sherry cask whisky`s...but to me Macallan has just such a beautiful balance between distillery character, cask influence and the right ABV for their whisky. Dont get me wrong...every other whisky i mentioned is amazing...but to me Macallan is the perfect everyday whisky that will never be boring to me.

So, in honor of Rex, I have a story. I have recently gone home to visit for Christmas, and found out that my Best Friend had an impressive liquor cabinet. I proceeded to mooch Macallan 12: double cask(to compare to the Macallan 15 purchased for me by the same man), Aucentoshan 12, Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban(12), Lagavulin 16, and Hibiki Harmony. It was a good day. The moochatood was on point. And I now understand why Lagavulin 16 is legendary.

The “Dark rich honey” could be buckwheat honey. When bees hit a buckwheat patch they will produce a very dark strong honey. I think it tastes like whiskey! My in-laws and my daughter harvest honey. They always bring me some of the buckwheat kind when it’s used as a cover crop

Had Rare Cask on a recent trip as a splurge pour. It was amazing. It is, up to this point, my favorite Scotch. I'm collecting a vault...sporan at this point...of my own. 14 so far. I began with Tobermory and Ledaig because I'm a MacLean and we hail from Mull. But nothing I've tried has been as good as Rare Cask, to me. So hers my question... What is similar to Rare Cask but more affordable as a regular dram (under $60)?

He either has done a review or will do a trusted review if it's new. You do about the same except he knows things no one else talks about. I'm going on to long but he recently reviewed a co. By name open since 1914 he had a bot made in 1920 he'd bought at auction and he opened it and drank it.--amazing.

It was interesting searching for all the Bars you mentioned using Google Earth. It's pretty cool to hear your comment, then type in the name (plus "Austin, TX) and then go there. Click on street view just outside each of these bars and you get to look at the Bar and look at the location in Austin. It's almost like traveling.
After I put a little yellow push pin at these locations: "The Roosevelt Room", "Peche - French Restaurant", "Donn's Depot", "The Blackheart bar", and "Fado Irish Pub", it made me want to travel to Austin, TX and visit some of these bars.
Ya know, it's not that easy to hear you mention a name, then try to get Google Earth to find a location based upon the sound... when Daniel said "Peche", when Rex said "Fado" the sounds you guys made were kind of a challenge to work out. I guess that adds, makes it a little more interesting.
You guys should try a version of this where you give a vague sound and have people try to figure out what restaurant or bar name you're saying. Fun!
    Cheers...

Hello Daniel, Rex and, everyone from the whisk(e)y tribe!! The name is I-rum.. (yes it's a U sound) I have come to a fork in the road in this journey of finding delicious whisk(e)ys. Currently I'm just a rookie, trying bottles like Glenffidich 12, Monkey Shoulder, Crown, Jack, and Jim Beam. This weekend my local Wine/Spirit distributor will be having a tasting of some very sine bottles. I only get to pick one of five. My options are, Old Rip Van Winkle 10 Year, Van Winkle Special Reserve 12 Year, George T. Stagg, Thomas Handy Rye, and William Larue Weller. I don't know which I should try. I will be taking a friend with me so he can pick a different bottle and I can take some of his drink! Thanks for all the vids, and have a good one!

Hey guys I found The Macallan Rare Cask at one of my favorite shops but they also have a bottle of Glengoyne 21 at like half the price. What’s your thought go for the gusto or grab Glengoyne? Or do you have a better suggestion?

Have you guys tried “Dads hat” rye whiskey? if not I want to donate one for you to try because it’s made in my home state, Pennsylvania. Would I just donate enough money for you to buy a bottle or should I buy one and have it sent to your mailing address?

You Got Served fairly entertaining but you are a good whiskey Channel it's funny you mention Ralphie because he was the first whiskey Channel I met on UA-cam and then I met you guys so. So scotch I'm really interested in good scotch not like bourbon or whiskey I guess talk to me about scotch go over scotch I learned so much from your Channel that sounds like Scotch whiskey and bourbon sounds like there's different classes levels if you will by the way you guys are pretty funny hahaha

So if whiskey production is traditionally native to Scotland and Ireland, why did it not catch on in England? Seems like similar climate, etc. I'm sure they are out there but I don't think I've ever seen an English whiskey.

So....Is the Rare Cask worth the price or would you definitely spend the $300 on something else? The videos are great! I only started watching them over the past few months but I find myself binge watching all the older episodes whenever I have time! Thanks for sharing your knowledge!

I think what you're reading as hate for Macallan is more disappointment with Macallan. They've just churned out so much NAS whisky this past decade that it's hard to respect them anymore.
My first whisky was a Macallan 12 yo in a bar called Maxwell's Plum from a bartender named Stu in 1985. It was in a brandy snifter and Stu gave it to me for free because he just knew I'd love it.
    He was right.

Yup. Also Macallan’s Doublethink marketing is incredibly disingenuous. “Age doesn’t matter! Spend eleventy billion dollars on Rare Cask! Or Macallan M!” followed by “This Macallan Sherry Oak is TWENTY FIVE years old!!! TWENTY FIVE years old! Age matters SO MUCH!! Give us eleventy billion dollars for it!”
