One reason perfumes were reformulated is that sandalwood trees are endangered. They haven't figured out how to make a good synthetic sandalwood yet.

What's old is new. I find that what some things young girls (preteen to teen and even thru college age) are all about now are things I associated with old ladies. I can remember in college no one wanted anything to do with anything rose scented, even room fragrance because only old ladies used it. This is what the young girls like now. Another example was the Vera Bradley bags. When I was growing up, that brand was only used by old, elderly ladies too. So I was shocked when my preteen girls told me all their friends had it and it was the latest craze. They went through that for several years and it came to where you saw that brand expand everywhere. If someone had told me that would happen back in the 70s, I wouldn't have believed it.

To me, it smelled like it had Cinnamon in it! It was cheap & tacky smelling! I returned both bottles! They didn't have a sample/tester bottle when I saw it on the shelves, I asked if they had one. I was told it had been swiped!!!! I just can not get over how bad they made Heaven Scent smell! Heaven Scent didn't have sandalwood in it, or I would have here liked it at all....I hate that fragrance plus it gives me full blown, horrible migraines! So I have to be careful of perfumes! I’m in my 30’s and I absolutely love Anais Anais by Cacharel. It came out in the 70’s but I think most people think of it as one of the quintessential 80’s perfumes. I wanted something similar but not so dated, so I found a site that lets you search scents based on the combination of components, but literally all of the perfumes that came up were made in the 80’s. I always thought it smelled like all of 80’s pop culture got distilled into a bottle, and apparently I was basically right. Anais Anais really does have a scent profile that was almost exclusively used in the 80’s. Nothing similar has been made since 1989. I think I’m just gonna bite the bullet and buy a bottle so I can smell old and out of style for the rest of my life, or until they stop making it. If anyone knows of a very similar perfume that also somehow smells modern, I would love to hear about it, but I’m not sure it’s possible.

None of them smell the same. I am old enough to remember them before they were reformulated, I think down to EU regulations. I now hunt for the true vintage formulas but it is risky if they have gone off. My favourite of all time was Dior's 'Dior Dior' which is hard to find. I managed eventually to source some but unfortunately it has lost the top note. Oh well I keep looking lol.

@@gill8779 all old and not so old parfums smell differently today, they had to change their formulas also due to the available ingredients - for example animal products are no longer used - all over the world the same. I live in Europe and am also old enough to remember, I have always loved parfums 😊

@@Anamary719 Yes, I live in England & also love perfume. I think they used to use something called oakmoss & now use synthetic, but I am not an expert. I do not mind the use of synthetics especially if it is more ethical, I just wish they could replicate the originals much better lol.

The oakmoss ban was nothing to do with ethics, AFAIK. www.independent.co.uk/life-style/fashion/features/will-a-ban-on-oakmoss-kill-the-french-perfume-industry-9868986.html

Evening in Paris was always in the Sears Christmas catalogue. I thought it was very elegant. I was 12 . Mom used to have Maja soap by the bathtub. My brother loved it.

White Shoulders has always been one of my favorites. My Grandma wore it. Still love it :-)

I loved watching this! I'm in my sixty's and through my life my favorites were... Unforgettable by Avon. Wish they still sold it! Loved the scent and the bottle! Evening in Paris and my absolute favorite Channel No.5.
