to clarify why they rise in the wii version but not any others, when the n64 has to round a number, it rounds to the nearest, so when it rounds the position of those platforms as they bob up and down, it gets rounded up just as often as it gets rounded down, so no overall movement, whereas the wii will round a number towards zero, causing it to slowly approach the y position zero, which is higher than where the platform starts. once it reaches 0 it wont be able to go higher since the rounding will start pushing it down.
Hmm, every system since the 70s supported rounding and flooring (and mostly ceiling), it's just an implementation choice. And tbh it a really sounds a really weird emulation change/choice, as round(x) is usually implemented as floor(x+0.5), so it's probably a FP rounding issue instead ...
I'm thinking there is an ocean of other software mechanisms that is running simultaniously to give an accordingly gameplay. Not to mention the possible hardware burn out. I imagine this is similar to the pickup slide used in Twilight Princess low%, where an animation "loop" is missing it's last frame, so every time the animation loops, either Link in that game or these platforms here just start the next animation loop very slightly offset from the last. OR it could be for a different reasons here, idk. It's cool regardless!
I'm pretty sure it's due to how it bobs up and down in the lava, it's probably bobbing up ever so slightly more than it's bobbing down. That's my guess anyway.

There are similar platforms at the top of the level, and they actually move downward because y=0 is below them.
