part of the mystique of their makeup was to make them anonymous. they considered themselves regular guys with rock and roll dreams. the makeup was borrowed from Japanese theatre, where actors wore makeup to define their characters. Kiss have a specific makeup style for each band member. In the first few years of the band (1973-74), the makeup designs went through a bit of a metamorphosis, evolving into what they are known for since 1975. Even with two new members in the last few decades, they have adopted the classic Catman and Spaceman makeup. There was one time, a fifth character, in the early 80's, the fox. However, in 1983 until the mid 1990's, Kiss performed without makeup. They had a big reveal on MTV in 1983, where they appeared for the first time at a press conference without makeup. There were only two original members at that time. However, the other two went on to other music endeavors and never wore makeup, until the original lineup reformed in the mid 90's.
More KISS for you : Deuce Strutter (the original 1973 recording or the 1978 re-recording - either one is good, but the `78 version is longer) Parasite Rock & Roll All Night Calling Dr Love Detroit Rock City (the original album version has an extended soundscape intro) God Of Thunder Shout It Out Loud Tomorrow & Tonight Love Gun I Stole Your Love -I Was Made For Loving You- ✅ Shandi I Love It Loud Lick It Up Under The Gun I've Had Enough (Out Of The Cold Into The Fire) Heaven's On Fire Tears Are Falling Those will take you up to 1985... there are tons more into the 90s and beyond. ⭐👹😾⚡
In 1979, Kiss made a disco album 'Dynasty'... and "I was made for loving you" became an international hit. Although the record sold platinum in the US, Kiss realized on that tour that little kids were coming to see Kiss in concert w/ their parents 😂Their young teen/ college age fans had abandoned them and Kiss saw their ticket sales decline. What fans didn't know at the time was that Kiss drummer Peter Criss did not play on the 'Dynasty' album because he was struggling w/ addiction and unable to play in the studio (a session drummer was used)... On that tour, he was playing poorly as well, so he was fired in 1980. Kiss recorded another disco album 'Unmasked' in 1980 (also w/ a session drummer) but the single 'Shandi' did not have the same impact ('Unmasked' sold gold in the US - half million copies)... Peter Criss appeared in the 'Shandi' music video but was replaced on tour by drummer Eric Carr.
The band's first big "disco" hit! This one divided fans back in the day, and probably still does to some degree today. Many people do love it though, cos it's such a groove.
The makeup was specific to each band member and when members left, new members got new makeup. Eventually they stopped using the makeup because critics accused that the band was only seen as good because of the makeup. When they started doing concerts without makeup, critics had to admit they were actually quite good.
Critics had nothing to do with why they quit wearing makeup. They had thought about it for a while before they did it. When they took it off, they felt it was right. They didn't care what critics said about them.
No, the makeup thing is NOT true. I've been a fans for decades and I'm amazed that there are new urban legends. They took off the makeup in the early 80s, so that should tell you it's bogus. Still a fun reaction from you!
The make up had nothing to do with religion! 'Kiss' star Gene Simmons revealed that his band's makeup had more meaning for him. Band of brothers: Gene Simmons (64) thinks that the outfit of the 'Kiss' members brought them even closer together. The 'Kiss' ('I Was Made For Lovin' You') bassist revealed what was behind the band's make-up. It was intended to create a sense of togetherness similar to that of the 'Beatles': "That [make-up] was war paint. Make-up wouldn't be the respectful term. We played in a club called 'Daisy'. There were no more than 50 or so 1,000 people. When we looked at each other on stage, we felt that we belonged together," Gene Simmons told the British newspaper The Guardian. "I remember watching The Beatles as a child and thinking there must be a Beatles mother because they looked like they belonged together. There's no question that our makeup, that platform boots and our outfit was a unique expression of who we were and what we were becoming."
Paul brought in Desmond Child to help write on this album. Then Paul started recommending him to other artists like Bon Jovi & Aero Smith. Desmond went on to cowrite livin la vida loca. Check out Desmonds credits.
I'm on the fence, when it comes to outside "hired guns" for songwriting. Sure, you may have a big hit, but the other songs are usually mediocre. Aerosmith gained popularity with these sappy ballads they did not write. I loved the 70's rocking Aerosmith, and their 80's/90's rockers, but to me, these ballads are Aero-sh!t. KISS had a pretty good ballad hit with Forever, co-written by Michael Bolton. And these rockers resorted to borrowing from the hair metal ballads, and where are these bands today. Forgotten, mostly. My son has a quote about his music preference. "Screw you. I play rock and roll" .
Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley went to see Alice Cooper. And they came up the idea wouldn't it be cool to have four Alice Cooper's in one band. So when they started kiss the idea was to have all four band members to have their own persona.
MORE KISS reactions PLEASE!!! They have so many classic and catchy songs and such a wide variety of great stuff that covers their entire 50 year career. Check out some more of the early 70's live concert stuff for sure!
I know Gene was practicing to be a rabbi but dropped out. Rock n roll was Paul's religion. Ace wasn't religious, but when he was younger, he put a pyramid on his head because his friend told him you have better orgasms. Peter is just your typical traditional Catholic. The makeup wasn't intentional at the beginning but gradually evolved.
THE ROCK band Deep Purple has a very good song called SMOKE ON THE WATER FROM THIER L P Machine Head please give it a react its fantastic Its from 1972 ITS TOTAL 1970s 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Kiss performed without makeup between 1983 and 1996 (as well as making seven studio albums in that same period) so, no their makeup is not ritualistic in any way, shape or form.
Another good reaction, ladies. But...smh...I don't know why UA-cam's algorithm considers this abomination to be one of Kiss' better or popular songs. This is their 'ode to disco' I guess. Ugh. There are so many other good/great songs in their arsenal.
Possibly the worst KISS song ever.......during their worst time ever.......If you want to see the KISS that we all fell in love with, look at some of their live stuff from the mid 70's...when they were young and heavy

You may be "feeling" the Disco beat - like "I Will Survive" by Gloria Gaynor, any song by Donna Summer, etc.
Hello there beautiful ladies and another great song by Kiss called " i want to rock and roll all night and party everyday" give it a listen
Paul brought in Desmond Child to help write on this album.
Then Paul started recommending him to other artists like Bon Jovi & Aero Smith. Desmond went on to cowrite livin la vida loca.

You should check out their 1998 Live version at Dodger Stadium. Paul said that live, it sounds like it supposed to sound.
NO DECADE BEATS THE 70s

No makeup/religion connection... Lol
ROCK ON, Ladies 🤟
Thank God you cleared that up, about the Latinas part, not Latinx, phew.
The sister in yellow is just breathtaking.
I disagree... Both are beautiful and I prefer the one in the darker colours..

You have to definitely need to check out Deuce (Live at Brooklyn Bridge, Reunion Tour, 1996, MTV awards) and Cold Gin ( Dodger Stadium )
Hey are you guys ever gonna react to Judgement Day?? You left us Hangin………..😵💫😵💫
Please you react to Japamese band.
One ok Rock
L'Arc〜en〜Ciel
I know Paul and Gene are Jewish but don't know if that has anything to do with a religious belief though on the makeup part.
The makeup had nothing to do with their religion. They wore it because they thought it was different and cool
Que fumaron chicas , usan maquillage porque son de una religion diferente !! 😅😅
'I believe in miracles' had me rolling but you both are "sexy thing's"
THE ROCK band Deep Purple has a very good song called SMOKE ON THE WATER FROM THIER L P Machine Head please give it a react its fantastic Its from 1972 ITS TOTAL 1970s 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
The makeup could have been just a stage thing.
Which board games?
Kiss performed without makeup between 1983 and 1996 (as well as making seven studio albums in that same period) so, no their makeup is not ritualistic in any way, shape or form.
That urban legend about the makeup is totally stupid. KISS later stopped using the makeup. Not sure about the platform shoes.
The makeup was not because of a religious belief
Not true about the makeup. They are all without it now. It was an idea that they had when they started.
Another good reaction, ladies. But...smh...I don't know why UA-cam's algorithm considers this abomination to be one of Kiss' better or popular songs. This is their 'ode to disco' I guess. Ugh. There are so many other good/great songs in their arsenal.
The make-up thing is nonsense. They started wearing for theatrics on stage, nothing else.
Possibly the worst KISS song ever.......during their worst time ever.......If you want to see the KISS that we all fell in love with, look at some of their live stuff from the mid 70's...when they were young and heavy
They talk way to damn about much . . . They can't react to the music because they can't shut up from their own talking .
One of the worst Kiss songs ever, from their ''costume'' days..
Overrated band
