Great video, Dave. One thing that would have been additionally helpful would have been a side-by-side comparison with a color accurate screen to see how much the color is off. Or a description on scale of 1 to 10 how much the color is not accurate.

@Arcana Imperii Yeah but it also fairly good value for what you get. $1k and above is too much for most students really but somehow many UA-camrs still recommending laptops at that price point to students. At this $650, fairly balance between cost and compromise, not much that will breaks your experience, happy medium. Most $300 - $500 laptops usually skimp on SSD, solid build and decent screen which will not age well over years. Just my 2 cents ...

@@bartiz12 every successive customization is another SKU to track, another thing to manage in the manufacturing workflow, etc. I think with enough demand and feedback, they'll push for slightly better screens in a later model
I bought this laptop, largely because of this review (and the specs seemed amazing). It's not as magical as the review makes it seem, but still a solid choice. A+ for build quality and keyboard for a laptop of this price. The screen and battery life are not great but acceptable for general use. The one area that this laptop fell short of expectations for me is the thermals. The fans are VERY loud compared to my family's laptops of similar spec, and while gaming I occasionally see temps of 90C+ (and it does thermal throttle), and even things like installing windows updates ramp up the fans and temp to 80C. However, I'd still recommend this laptop because the 4700U is BLAZINGLY fast. For productivity and web surfing it's the fastest I've ever used, and I'm pretty picky about my hardware.

GAMING RECOMMENDATIONS for anyone considering this device.... - If you have the money, get a freesync ips monitor as well. When at home or in your dorm you can use the monitor alongside AMD Chill in FPS titles. If you want to play games at 60fps choose the settings 36-60fps. What it does is lowering the fps to 36 when standing still. increasing it to ~45 when moving forward, and when panning with the mouse it will increase to 60fps (basically fps when you need it, works great in Doom Eternal). Without an fps counter it's hard to spot the difference between this and a game running at solid 60fps.... it also increases battery life when gaming on the go. Decreases thermals and gives the GPU more room for higher clocks. - use 900p and lower resolutions (you can even add custom resolutions like 1440x810 or 1066x600), but also add image sharpening. On a 14 inch device the image sharpening will compensate for the resolution loss and games with TXAA won't have any noticable edges anyway. Lower resolution is always preferable since these devices have heavily limited memory bandwidth. - In a lot of games, choose "power saving"-power profile. this will usually lock the CPU to 1600Mhz. (8 cores at 1600Mhz isn't bad). In 15W configuration this will make your GPU frequency skyrocket. My 2500U goes from 650MHz to 1050Mhz by limiting the CPU and the system becomes much more balanced for gaming. Happy gaming! :)
Well right now people are saying true because oem are not making good amd laptops , they are putting bad quality displays , bad material build quality and poor battery capacity on amd systems as compared to intel systems in same models across . The benefits you see in these new amd laptops is more because of amd chips.
This is literally the same Acer series of laptops that's been around for ages. Difference is that once the Ryzen goes on, the performance level goes way up. Friend of mine has a similar laptop with 7th gen intel CPU and Nvidia MX graphics. It would get its ass beat 10 ways to hell by this version.

OEM: Makes good laptop.
People: Wow AMD is killing it.
OEM: Ima head out.
Aayush Vijayvergiya Most of the time OEM are paid by intel to not use AMD chips or cripple their AMD models in some way. Only maybe 3000/4000 ryzen series are we seeing something different occasionally. The worst thing is those shit TN panels.

@@JC-jx8un I had heard about reviewers saying the screen had poor color accuracy among other things while I was deciding whether or not to buy the laptop. So far over two-three months of use, I haven't noticed anything jarring or particularly bad about the display.
I've played games like Dishonored, Code Vein, Octopath Traveler, and Edith Finch. I didn't experience any performance issues and the display/graphics were great.
When I tried Alan Wake and Dishonored 2, I had pretty bad framerate and had to lower the graphics to the point that I didn't bother trying to play those games.

Dad: "Yea, and...?"
Son: "I was wondering if I could get one before moving in to my dorm."
Dad: "Why don't you ask Dave Lee to get you one?"
Son: "Whoa, who's Dave Lee?"
Dad: "Do you think I don't know what you've been watching on your computer, son?"
so, what did the father see?
porn? furries?
@@sherwing9054 Nothing of such, just Dave Lee. The son is getting the ideas from Dave Lee.
It can't be the sons computer or dad would never see his history
So why does he need a laptop when he can just take his computer?
@@Mashamazzi The plot twist is that the dad also watches Dave Lee's videos, that's why he knows why his son is asking him to get him a particular brand and model of laptop.
About the computer, it isn't the best thing to bring with you into class.
@@SagaciousEagle I know what the plot twist is
I guess that's true but wasn't the point to have it in the dorm room?
This laptop is a beast and ultra-portable. It is so fast. display is not dim and have very good colors. The keyboard is clicky and responsive and light to the hand when typing. The trackpad is smooth and responsive. My complaint is only the speakers which has low volume and hard to hear. It can be managed with a headphone or external speaker. This is the best mid-range laptop. I upgraded Windows 10 to Windows 11 but found usability of Windows 11 so hard, so I dual booted it with Ubuntu 20.04 GNU Linux. I am using the LXQT desktop environment with my bash scripts for my software web testing work.
I’m still haunted that Dave is reviewing while standing, not sitting. 👀
But he is sitting, he has shown previously
@@MrDaur88 he's not. it's a standing desk
Wait... What!?👀
@@aditsood9369 why do you speak when you don't know stuff ? That guy clearly said that he showed it in a video and yes he did show it !
@@rahulenork it's a standing desk man, Dave's said it multiple times in the past
The ironic thing is that this completely fits my friends budget and he needs a laptop for e-learning
and just as he needed it this video came out
Thank you so much! Going to first year of college and needed a laptop. Amazing review
38% sRGB? What the actual F?
That's what I was thinking
I think he must have mixed up those logos. Ypu can never have higher AdobeRGB than sRGB
On the other hand, that says "RGB", so could that be the full, theoretical RGB range (with more colors than even AdobeRGB)?
Just use a tv as an external monitor and ur set
@@ashiqurrahmanadit6240 That kinda destroys the purpose of a laptop, doesnt it?
@@Wistbacka No it doesn't. Have an external screen at home for "serious" work, use the laptop benefits for school or non graphic work when on the go.
It you're a professional that needs the accuracy all the time, you should be able to afford something more up your alley (=more expensive)
"just don't mentions about gaming"...that hit different bruhh😂
Hey Dave and everyone. Check Lenovo Ideapad 3 with Ryzen 7 4700U. It is basically this laptop with beefed up upgradability; its RAM, SSD, and 2.5 inch drive can be upgraded! Also comes with better screen.
First pog also a cheap amd laptop what a time to be alive
Yes for me the display is a deal breaker, as I also use my laptop to watch movies and I need good viewing angles.
3:05 The hell that Sage teleported just like that!
Love it Dave haha. "Dont mention the fact that it can play games"
0:54 those macpro wheels was just for telling the price of the laptop
Today I bought a new laptop because of this video, I got the Acer Aspire 5 15.6" with Ryzen 4500u 8GB RAM 512SSD, I put an extra 8 in it as soon as I unboxed it. My thoughts after 6 hours of use..... WOW, it's a very capable thing. I've only played GTA V so far and was getting an average of 68fps on lower settings.
Very happy with my purchase so far.
I wish people still make laptops with the num pad. It’s unexplainable how great the thing is
*budget friendly powerful laptop*
Meanwhile in India:- It cost 1000$
Quite sad i got an asus gaming laptop for €700.It has an i7 and a 1050Ti
Edit:back in 2017...
sucks to suck
As an American Indian who has lived in India, it's not the manafacturerers fault there are so many import tariffs on foreign goods .
Indeed. My friend spent about $2000 for his ROG laptop with i7 and 2060... Yeah.
@@currycel470how is it not good. That's really good, because i got it in 2017.
