I could see the FP2 as a perfect addition to my smart home Setting up zones for when walking near the entry to turn on the downlight via a LIFX smart switch in HomeKit. Sitting on the couch turning on the Apple TV via Home Assistant. Standing in front of the fireplace to turn on a 15 minute timer to turn the fan on via a smart plug. Walking towards the study and kitchen to turns on their respective lights. I haven't been able to reliably automate these lights in this large multipurpose room. Your video gives me hope that it is possible and the Aqara FP2 seems like this is the right hardware for the job.
I think I would put the sensor in the bathroom, not having to look for light switches when it’s dark would be a gamechanger. We also have a cat and we don’t want to keep the lights always on so having the presence sensor on the floor would save us some energy consumption.
To help monitor my grandma. She is old now and at risk of falls. She refuses to move and wants to live alone. Having an FP2 can replace the camera and give her more privacy while giving our family peace of mind.
I have never used a sensor before. I'm excited about the possibilities it brings. I'd love to explore its potential and find ways to integrate it into my work or daily life. The opportunities it offers are intriguing, and I'm eager to delve into this new technology.
I’d use it to automate scenes in my living room + dinning + kitchen. I also plan on adding one in each bedroom for presence detection and sleep tracking.
I will be using the FP2 in the master bedroom first base on time and zones. After we are in bed. Depending on presence detected on one side of the bed or other. Under bed strip lights on one side or other will turn on dimmed to 30%. As we move toward the master bath the master bath will turn in. If either move toward the exit, the hall will turn on also dimmed. It will turn off as we exit the space. Using the FP2 in the kitchen. We will light accordingly.
Great video. I'd set up the FP2 in my mom's apartment. She's a fall risk, and has been having health issues especially at night, so the updated sleep monitoring and fall detection would help keep me informed if something happens and I need to take action. Her smart home needs are more basic, but it would also be great to automate her lights based on her location as movement is difficult for her.
Great video. I've got six FP2 sensors getting set up through my home in combination with Aqara PIR sensors. PIR response time to trigger lights on and FP2 to maintain on state while presence is detected. Difference in my setup is I will be running all automations within Homey Pro. It gives HA a run for it's money but much simpler to use! 👍
My favorite thought for the Aqara FP2 is for my Garage. I work a lot in my garage so I can have different tools starting up and lighting for those tools depending on my location. and having it set on the ceiling if anything happens to me (God Forbid) and I end up on the ground the PF2 will call for help. Most important since I live by myself.
Delyn, great information! I am new to all of the smart home automations and you have definitely helped me understand a lot. So to answer your question, I would love the deep dive into not just the fp2 but also more on programming the Aqara app and setting up home security with the m2 hub. Also, I would use the fp2 to automate when I leave the basement for laundry to have all lights turn off and then when I go back down lights on.
I would use the FP2 to set up dog automations. When my dog is by the door for longer than 2 mins and wants to go out notify in my home office. When the dog is pacing around the apartment switch on the tv and dispense a treat.
There are just so many ways I could use this sensor and have been pondering since I first started seeing the reviews a bit back. In my living space / dining room / foyer I’m drooling 🤤 over the different zones I could set up to auto activate when I’m in a section. Also setting up a killer movie, workout and game night automations (things I hadn’t even considered until your video). I just heard about the sleep tracking yesterday so I’m looking forward to trying something fun for naps on the couch. Finally, I’m just about ready to dip my toes into home assistant so thanks for the inspiration.
Home assistant opens so many doors and has such deep integration options. Can’t encourage it enough. I run both so that I have the simplicity of Apple home and still can use all of my devices with Siri but building automations in HA offers so much opportunity
Great review of the FP2. I do have some Aqara sensors so I would use the Aqara FP2 in conjunction with them and other devices but I have to admit I would use the Aqara FP2 in a bit of a selfish way. I have small kids and an elderly parent. I have a lot of situations that I have to handle manually myself at the moment. My father who lives with us is not very technologically acute so I would use the Aqara FP2 to help him be more independent instead of calling for me to help with setting lights and 'his programs' on the tv as he apologizes every time thinking he's a burden. This would give him a boost of confidence. For my kids, they are always leaving lights on running around. This would save me from following them turning things off. They also have a tv in their bedrooms but are not allowed to watch after a certain time so I would use the Aqara FP2 to monitor if they are in the room and if the tv is on after a certain time as well as turning off their lights when the Aqara FP2 detects presence but no motion (assumption being that they have fallen asleep). These are just a couple ways I would use the Aqara FP2. We live in a 3 story townhome so it's quite draining for me to do all this manually. I know this would eventually require more Aqara FP2s to accomplish everything but if this one improves our lives, it would be worth the cost to purchase additional ones and save me time, money and energy that could be used better directly on my father and kids.
In bathroom can be very useful with lux sensor to turn on/off lights in the zones like shower.. but with HomeKit we can do everything we need.. turn on off tv when we are or not on the couch.. the limit is our fantasy!
I plan to use it to solve my AC problem. I have one central unit AC whereby the whole house of 2 living rooms and 3 bedrooms are controlled by one AC controller ecobee. I plan to change all vents to smart vents and use FP2 to detect presence to be able to adjust vents accordingly to get more air in the most appropriate places in the house for better comfort.
Would love to see an in depth Level 4 video. I would use the FP2 to mimic your kitchen idea because my family can’t seem to turn off lights when they leave the room.
I would use it as a security device outside my house in a waterproof electrical project box, with a custom acrylic window. I would have the FP2 facing my house from a tree in my front yard. Then, I would have four zones set up to trigger a specific camera before the motion sensor activates. I use Ring cameras, so it doesn't start recording fast enough since its in a sleep state till the motion sensor is triggered. I can get earlier warnings of who is in what part of my yard and trigger automations to stop theft since it's been an issue I have been dealing with.
Thanks for the tips! Just move to my new place and been trying different smart automation options and just purchased the home assistant. I was searching online to find ideas to automate as voice activation sometime seem less reliable and the new Aqara FP2 would greatly help with presence senor. I am have purchase and waiting for my first FP2 and if the zoning is working well would need a few more to determine the number of person in the area to properly trigger the correct automation when my little one is off to bed! Would help to trigger some light if there movement in the night when the little one need to wake up to washroom. With presence sensor instead of motion the automation can have a significant higher precision.
Gratis video! I just bougth one FP2, I saw that you are put some of tem at the ceiling? You don't have any issues since placement instructions are different.
I haven’t had too many issues with them on the ceiling as long as they’re tilted downward. When you’re setting them up just make sure you’re marking the proper location of furniture and such and you should be just fine! Have fun automating!
Nice video. I actually had no idea the FP2 was quite so flexible. We have an open plan living space including living room, dining room and a desk where I work from. Being able to split the areas up into zones would be great. I have Home Assistant controlling smart plugs, lights, TV's, speakers, washing machine, heating and a bunch of motion, temperature and humidity sensors. The open plan living space often means I could be working at my desk (controlled by smart plugs) whilst the kids are doing home work sitting at the dining table (under smart bulbs). The motion sensors I have at the moment limit the automations I can create in the different areas and we're forever asking Google to turn different devices on and off! The desk could power up when I sit at it, the dining room lights could come on when the kids are sitting there doing their homework, . Switching off lights and the TV when the kids aren't in the room would also be great and save some ££ on the electricity bill!
I would use an FP2 in my nursery to automatically turn on my nap scene to close the blinds and turn the sound machine on when we lay the kids down by creating a zone for each crib. I could even have the lights turn off when we leave the room and fade back on when we come back in after nap time is over.
Since features are dependent on the type of mounting position, can more than 1 unit be used in a room at the same time? For example 1 unit wall mounted to provide presense, zones and automation and a 2nd unit on the ceiling to provide falls alerts only? Many thanks
This is a great question, I believe so but only if you have them doing different things. One on the wall for presence and one on the ceiling for fall detection for example, not both doing just presence
I would use it to detect when the kids are out of bed at night and control their lights during the day. Use it to disable automations when they are in bed.
You’ll want to have the HomeKit device plugin set up on home assistant. Once you do follow these steps: Add to Aqara app, set up your areas Add to HomeKit, Have your HomeKit code ready and then remove the device from HomeKit. Immediately open the discover devices in home assistant and you will see it show up as a HomeKit device. Set it up with the code and you will see the areas all show up as different entities in the device.
Fantastic video! I would use the FP2 in conjunction smart curtains, fans connected to smart plugs, and thermostats with some clever temperature automations to stay cool in the summer while also keeping the energy bill down. The FP2 in particular would be useful since I have an open floor plan and I can use it to divide the space virtually..
To help keep my elderly mother safe. She lives in an annex and often goes to her room without turning things off, but sometimes returns. I want to set up an automation that if she doesn’t return to her main room, everything goes off after and hour. However if she returns all the devices that went off are toggled back on just as they were. As well as this, I’ll turn the light on in her kitchen and dining area as she moves, as she often loses remotes due to her memory issues. I’ll also monitor for falls.
I would like to use it to automate the lights in the living room, kitchen, and breakfast area, since they're all next to one another in an open concept house. It would be fantastic to be able to walk from the living room into the kitchen and have it automatically turn those lights on or if I sit down at the breakfast table. Once I tinker more with it, I'll probably buy a few more to set up around the house. : )
Turn on the Aquarium lights, + set the climate to my comfort level. Set movie mode when I am sitting in front of the tv and time is at weekend night. turn on the light when I cross over to my bedroom.
Looking to get the FP2 for my new home! Would like to automate music playing from the different speakers in the house based on whether there are people present in each location. I'd need to tinker a bit with Home Assistant for this, but it'll be worthwhile!
List of what I need to wok the lighting like you hace it for zone contolled... Aqara FP2, AqaraM2 hub, What LED Bulbs, Zigbee, Matter, wifi? DO I need an Homepod Mini?
If you use Aqara switch, you would only need the switch and the FP2 sensor. If you wanted to control a device within HomeKit, you would need a home hub (HomePod or Apple TV) and any device that is HomeKit compatible
@@Delyn we don’t want to change out light switches we just wanted to control several smart bulb. So then I’m going to assume I need to purchase a Apple HomePod mini, correct? Thank you for the video and your assistance.
Great Video! I ran across Home Assistant just under a year ago and I've been hooked ever since. I have several automations setup with Home Assistant, Alexa, and Homekit, controlling lights, thermostats, garage stuff, fans, home alarm, sensors, etc. I currently have a Good Night automation that turns off all of my lights, checks the doors and windows, sets the alarm, and turns on white noise in the bedroom. I've made a trigger for when both my wife's and my iPhone are charging after 8pm it kicks off the automation however it's not perfect. If say she is in the office and puts her phone on the charger and I'm driving home with my phone plugged into the car, it kicks off the automation. Or a slew of other possibilities. I would really like to get an Aqara FP2 to see if I can add a condition that has us both in bed to provide another layer of probability that we are actually going to bed. Thanks for your videos. I am learning a lot from your channel.
Hi, just discovered you! I like the facts that you use Apple Home with Home Assistant. If I win the FP2, I will use it so it covers the kitchen and dining room. It will automatically turn off lights in the kitchen once we are all at the table.
So I'm trying to learn about automations in HA so the example you provided is all about turning the lights off. State changes from detected to clear? Am i missing something? Does this same automation turn your lights on and then after the 5 min wait time turns it off of no presence is detected?
Great video, Delyn. Definitely keen to hear more in-depth automation ideas in Home Assistant as a bit of a HA noob myself. I'd love to get my hands on an FP2 so that the lights stop turning off on my wife as she's doing 3am feeds with our newborn (when she's still for too long and the motion sensor thinks there's no one there).
I’m using Home Assistant along with an Android phone, but I’m having trouble getting my Aqara sensor to show up in Home Assistant. I’ve already tried a few things like unplugging the sensor, rebooting both my sensor and Home Assistant, and reinstalling the HomeKit Bridge integration,Homekit device but the sensor still doesn’t appear. Could you please provide some additional troubleshooting tips or suggestions to help me resolve this issue? Thanks!
Trying to figure out how to set the lights off after fp2 has no motion for 5+ minutes. HomeKit is so frustrating that it doesn't have this option. Looks like I need to purchase Home Assistant. I want to make sure I set up the best solution. Trying to decide between Home Assistant and Hubitat to set up with HomeKit. Great video
I agree. It’s mind blowing that they don’t have that option at this point. If they had more in depth options for automations I would likely ditch home assistant. Apple shortcuts is just not there for me either
Would love to see in more detail how you set up that baby sitter automation and how you tell your other automations to disable when babysitter mode was on. Tried something similar that Shane Whatley did on his channel without success.
I’m not fully remembering Shane’s automation but it’s simple if you use either a smart plug or if you have homebridge/home assistant setup you can create a virtual switch. An extra smart plug is the easiest way to achieve it. You’ll want home+ or controller for it if you go that route. Then it is just added to your current automations as a “and if” statement.
I want to use it in my basement home theater to keep the scene in movie mode while we’re still on the couch. If movement is detected, it can trigger some led strips to light up really dim
Very informative video. :) I'd first create different zones. All the light switches of one floor are at the same spot, so its dificult for my elderly parents to always get up and turn off/on the lights. I would also try to automate my shades with this sensor. My father is a risk fall and this sensor (I Hope) should help me get notify when something happens. :)
Do I understand correctly that in any case you have to install the device in home assistant first and then you can use it by using the bridge in HomeKit, too. It’s not possible to use a HomeKit device directly in home assistant?
I’d love to see a video more about integrating it with Home Assistant. All of my devices are there, and it has way more control. But I’m still trying to figure out how to utilize automations with it.
I live outside the US so I have an Apple TV running on a 2nd router which connects to a VPN. Is it possible to connect Home Kit and/or Home Assistant to two different networks while controlling both via the same app profile?
This is a very good question. I’m not sure whether you’d be able to get the devices into HomeKit via home assistant if they were on different networks since the devices themselves wouldn’t be on the same network.
I’d use it to refine the lighting automations in my bedroom. Currently I have motion sensors that trigger at different times of day for things like a 3 min on/off cycle if you need to grab something in the bedroom as well as a bedtime automation that turns on dim lights and the tv(very cool). The only problem with these is that they don’t account for my wife sleeping-in(like today) or if she’s already asleep at night. The presence sensor would solve these issues by not triggering my lights and by extension not triggering my wife. 😂
I would use it as my first motion sensor in my setup I have now. Up to know I only have hue light and some cheap light strips. So I’m very curious to see what this is going to bring me😊
I’m thinking of all the ways I could use this sensor. I’d go simple. I’d like to have this in my Livingroom. When I sit in my chair the tv, Apple TV turns on and launches my tv profile. Also opening the remote app on my iPhone. If I get up from chair the tv would pause and turn on the lights. If I walk to the kitchen doorway the lights in kitchen would turn on. If I go to the bathroom doorway/ hallway the bathroom lights turn on. Then when I sit back in my chair the bathroom or kitchen lights would turn off and the living room lights would dim and tv show would unpause. I know there’s a ton of different ways to use this sensor but this is what I’d set up first. Thanks for your videos.
I would like to use the Aqara FP2 to help monitor my teenagers. Teens are constantly looking for ways to get one over on their parents like we did when we were young. Knowing when they're home from school or sneaking out of their windows at night to go hang out with friends. They know there's door sensors so it's tough to go out without me knowing. Lol
@@Delyn Weird. The only complex one that I have usually works. I would say approximately one time out of 10 times it may turn off the bathroom fan which it is controlling too early or not fire at all.
Well i want a presence sensor or finally get around the lights turning off when your sitting watching tv. Im in the process of extending my house for a new living room, so the few woudl be used in here. Basically I would use home assistant so if there’s presence in the room and the light levels be x, to switch my lamps on. Then if my tv is and presence in the roomon to turn on my tv leds. Then if they are a certain colour, I’m thinking red, it knows I’m watching a movie which then turns the lamps off and keeps the leds on for better ambient light for the movie. Then id also do if I get up off the sofa, using a thin film pressure sensor, and there’s no presence in the room to pause the movie. Assuming I’m at the bathroom etc etc. ten plenty other ideas will probably spring to my mind, and I can also ask the home assistant community. Thanks for the giveaway! Best of luck everyone 👍🏻
@ppetrix, try a complete reset of the sensor by pressing and holding the button on the device and fully re-adding it to the aqara app. Also make sure it is removed from your apple home app and aqara app completely before you do.
Why would you want to have 4 different places to do automations? I could see not wanting to use home assistant but that looks like a lot of overhead when it could all be in home assistant.
Damn, Delyn- had no idea you got so deep into automations. I loved this video as I have been mentally planning all the ways I’d like to use these sensors. Better still, the introduction to the 5-minute timer is huge. That is how I would use this sensor combined with an Aqara vibration sensor and a Flic button. My dryer is not Smart. Putting one of my Aqara G3 cameras in there is not the best way to know when the dryer is done (when I’m not traveling, I work from home). What I would like to do is hit the Flic button when I start the dryer (this part might have better automations) so the rest of the automations knows when to look for the dryer vibration sensor (it’s already there, mounted on the outside but easily sensitive enough to know when the dryer is moving, even slowly). If someone is in the laundry room, the FP2 will cancel any notification. If the room is empty, and the vibration sensor has not senses any movement for 5 minutes, the Siri will tell me through the HomePods that the dryer is done! This should easily save me enough time to allow for 1-2 extra loads per day. I would love to see some more advanced automation videos.

Please email me at Delyn@delyntech.com to claim your prize! You have 7 days to claim your prize! Thanks again for the suppprt and congratulations!
I would use it to let my cat in and out through the diy hydraulic basement window because I can define different zones with the sensor. with standard motion detectors this is suboptimal and inaccurate, so please give my cat a chance to live happily! thank you!
@@Delyn This is NOT an international giveaway. Shipping only within the Continental US. oh i am so sad. i just read the rules and i am from europe, but good luck to all subscribers!
For mine, I would put in the bathroom and make an automation to let me know if someone’s in the bathroom change the color of the light in the hallway because I have a roommate and sometimes we don’t know if somebody’s in the bathroom or not, and a visual representation would be the best way, but motion sensors do not work Because if you’re in the shower or on the toilet Because they stopped detecting.
The worst sensor I ever use, it shows ghost all the times, when I back after few days fo2 doesn't work the lights doesn't work completely, I try to reset reset sensor and the lights but doesn't helps. Do NOT buy it, isn't worth.
@Delyn Thanks for the info, I wanted to divide the zones but it doesn't work, I don't think I'll buy another sensor from Aqara, another problem is cooperation with ZigBee devices and protocols.
I will use it to turn on and off a train that runs around my shop, and then turn on some music after a few minutes to play a shop anthem, but only at specific times, and when it detects a person ENTERING the space
Make sure you check out Aqara's products now available at BestBuy.com! Grab a couple FP2's for yourself at the link in the description!

Great ideas! Love the way you already have a ton of integrations going on in your smart home!
I will use this for my 85-year-old grandmother who is prone to falling over. This will help us save her if the worst happens.
Thank you.
How?
This video is going to help me so much. Great tutorial!
I would use it to detect when the kids are out of bed at night and control their lights during the day. Use it to disable automations when they are in bed.
I can't connect into home assistant directly. How did you do it?
You’ll want to have the HomeKit device plugin set up on home assistant. Once you do follow these steps:
Add to Aqara app, set up your areas
Add to HomeKit,
Have your HomeKit code ready and then remove the device from HomeKit. Immediately open the discover devices in home assistant and you will see it show up as a HomeKit device. Set it up with the code and you will see the areas all show up as different entities in the device.
@@Delyn wow. These are many steps. If you have several devices, it can take days to do changes in a home.
Is this an International give away?
Unfortunately this one isn’t an international giveaway. Sorry for the inconvenience!
No stress. That is generally the case…
I liked your video…I would appreciate you showing the complete setup into Home assistant…thanks again..
I’d use it similar to one of the thing you showed in the video which is to pause/unpause my AppleTV when I leave/return to the room during movie time.
When it works, it’s pure joy
I use shortcuts to delay automations in Apple Home it’s good you just use wait and adjust the seconds by setting a number variable to make it simple
That’s true! It has just never been consistent for me.
This is precisely what I have done and I love it! Thanks for sharing!
That’s super clever.
Great idea and congratulations!
Hi, super vlog. Quick question: Because I'm not homekit user, how to add fp2 to the home assistant?
You may be able to add it via matter if you have a compatible hub
FP2 can detect if you are sitting or laying down etc, can this feature be used in Homekit as well instead of just presence?
Would love to try one out and see what all I can do
Possibilities are endless, but definitely using this on the stairs to light up led light strips
That would be dope!
Hi, thanks for the info, may I ask what kind of bulbs you used? The bulbs I buy don't work, I try wifi, zigbee, and nothing.
Depends on which you’re referring to. All of my bulbs are Philips hue, all of my light switches are WiFi switches
Very informative video. :)
I'd first create different zones.
Thanks for your videos.
go full blown home assistant youtuber!!!
Lol
😂 sounds like you got your hands full Steve! I have two little ones and am not looking forward to the teenage years
@@Delyn Oh you have no idea. lol Enjoy them now because time does fly!!
Is the contest still going on?
I think that you can achieve your example of the level 4 automation with in Apple HomeKit using the convert to shortcut function.
In theory, yes… I have just never had something work long term with convert to shortcut. It always fails eventually for me
@@Delyn Weird. The only complex one that I have usually works. I would say approximately one time out of 10 times it may turn off the bathroom fan which it is controlling too early or not fire at all.
I want to have my living room turn on depending on the time of day and have it happen automatically based on presence!
I'm setting one up in the bathroom so I can automatically trigger my lights to turn off when nobody is in there - my kids NEVER switch the lights off.
We need that in depth video
Yes please do FP2 to HA from scratch. I have it on HA but delete an now I can t add it 😢
@ppetrix, try a complete reset of the sensor by pressing and holding the button on the device and fully re-adding it to the aqara app.
Thats really clever! Love that idea. I hope to do more automation videos in the future!
Hey @Dr_cole, I love the unique way you would like to use this sensor in your laundry room! You have been selected as the winner of this giveaway, providing you are a US resident and have subscribed to My channel and Aqara's channel on UA-cam. Please email me at Delyn@delyntech.com to claim your prize!
You have 7 days to claim your prize!
Thanks again for the suppprt and congratulations!
I would use it to let my cat in and out through the diy hydraulic basement window because I can define different zones with the sensor. with standard motion detectors this is suboptimal and inaccurate, so please give my cat a chance to live happily! thank you!
That's a great idea!
Great idea! Make sure your roommate knows you have a sensor in there 😜
We already have one I got him into HomeKit 😂
many youtuber said fp2 have gosts sometimes 🤣
It has its issues but overall it is awesome!
The worst sensor I ever use, it shows ghost all the times, when I back after few days fo2 doesn't work the lights doesn't work completely, I try to reset reset sensor and the lights but doesn't helps. Do NOT buy it, isn't worth.
Maybe now that the fp1e is out that will work better for you!
@Delyn Thanks for the info, I wanted to divide the zones but it doesn't work, I don't think I'll buy another sensor from Aqara, another problem is cooperation with ZigBee devices and protocols.
I need a 1000mg Tylenol
Hope you found one! Sorry you aren’t feeling well!
I will use it to turn on and off a train that runs around my shop, and then turn on some music after a few minutes to play a shop anthem, but only at specific times, and when it detects a person ENTERING the space
