      You can power pretty much anything off of PoE if you have the power budget on your switch (or are using an injector). I use these a lot: amzn.to/49a1eAS. They only caveat with the FP2 is that it cannot be a USB PD charger, it has to be a "regular" USB C charger.

    You mention that functions are lost depending on whether the unit is installed on the wall or ceiling. Could 2 units be used in the same room to achieve all functions? For example 1 unit on the wall for presence, movement and zones and a 2nd unit on the ceiling to detect falls? Many thanks

      I would think so. I actually saw their demo at CES and it had four devices operating in the same room.
      They've even added a new feature where you can put it at a 45° angle down on a wall and it will detect sleep information like respiration and heart rate.

    • @ThisSmartHouse
      @ThisSmartHouse  Рік тому

      It depends on what type of charger it is. If it is a USB PD charger then no. A regular USB C style should work. If you look on your charger it should say USB PD if it is that type (usually in very small text).

    • @LiamGAMES-mz7xw

      @@ThisSmartHouse by charger do you mean the cable or the brick? The wall socket is a usb-c port so I won’t be connecting a brick to it.

    • @ThisSmartHouse
      @ThisSmartHouse  Рік тому

      I mean the brick that plugs into the wall. One of the confusing things about USBC is multiple protocols that use that exact same plug. Look at the side of the brick and see if it says USBC or USB PD. USB PD is a smart charger that requires the device to communicate with it to tell it what voltage to send. Unfortunately it looks like this device doesn't do that and so therefore won't charge with that style of charger.

      They recommend to keep the sensor about head height if you're going to install on the wall. You could certainly try that and see how it affects its sensing distance when you are close to the sensor.
      It knows because I think there's an accelerometer on board that can detect if it is sitting vertical or flat.

    I usually don't leave this kind of feedback, but the room echo is super intense in this video to the point it's hard to focus on what's being said. Do consider some sound treatment for the recording room or a different style of microphone. Moving microphone as close as possible (boom arm on a cheap light stand) also helps, or a lavalier type mic, or the excellent RODE wireless series. Nonetheless, thanks a lot for the in depth guide and the effort that goes into creating these.

      I appreciate the direct and honest feedback. I filmed this in my basement which of course as you can imagine is not good acoustically. I am using a lav mic (DJI Mic), the same I use on all my videos.
      The challenge is I like to film and different parts of the house which I can't acoustically isolate.
      But again I appreciate the feedback and I will see what I can do about it.

      You mean to use the Aqara FP2? You don't have to have an apple device, you are just using the HomeKit protocol. Once you set up the FP2 on your network, Home Assistant should recognize it in the Integrations tab. Then you will provide the HomeKit pairing code to Home Assistant. Once it is paired you will see the zones, light sensor, and "overall" presense sensor.

But i can buy a LD2410C mmWave sensors for under 4 USD add a D! mini form factor ESP32 for under 4 USD a Project case for around 2.50 USD and you have a great human presence sensor for around 8 times cheaper and does what i need it to do, as well as most people i would think.

    I just purchased this FP2 sensor and managed to set it up correctly in the Aqara app. HOWEVER, when adding it to Google Home, I can only use it as a motion sensor, in a very weird way:
    When entering a zone, it triggers both device.state.MotionDetection motionDetectionEventInProgress true and false, and when exiting a zone, it triggers device.state.MotionDetection motionDetectionEventInProgress false. Is there any way I can use this sensor in Google Home as a presence sensor and not just as a broken PIR motion sensor?
    (device.state.OccupancySensing is not showing up for a zone, only device.state.MotionDetection)

    • @ThisSmartHouse
      @ThisSmartHouse  Рік тому

      On my system it shows up with one motion sensor per zone and an overall sensor. If a zone sensor is tripped it also trips the overall sensor. Basically until there are no motion events in any zones the overall sensor should show motion.

Also many many times it states there are 2 or 3 people in the room when I’m alone. Cool idea but just like most AAA games. It’s not completed at launch.
