Would honestly love a long and holistic guide about discoloration such as PIH, melasma, sun spots and etc. Could never get enough of discoloration themed videos.
At 61 I stopped using foundation, I started using snail mucin serum and a peptide moisturiser and my daughter said I look way younger....I do put a small amount of facial tan on which gives me a glow, but I look dewy for the first time in my life! I have ashy blonde/silvery natural hair and my skin looks so much healthier with a sprinkling of faint freckles I've had all of my life. Good skincare and not much makeup is a very French way of doing and I LOVE it! Embrace your skin don't hide it, it's so liberating!
Say something about blue circles under eyes, please! I have them since childhood, and no amount of sleep can recover it. Also I don’t rub my eyes ever!
I also have had this since childhood I noticed Liv Tyler also has this, in some cases (might not be yours) this is just the bone structure of your face causing this.
I have dark eye circles and my advice is to use a product with caffeine in it. It doesn't work instantly, but after an hour or two I notice a difference.
She has an entire video about this topic on her channel. Covers the difference between hyperpigmentation and vascularity and gives products for both cases. I can’t remember the exact title, but I think I found it searching her name and under eyes.
everyone knows that but the first thing you will notice in an aging face is discoloration, I think that's what she meant. she exemplified a smiling man before that has missing an eyebrow and one tooth, missing a one tooth (discoloration) is the most noticable in aging that the missing eyebrow (lines, wrinkles).
I hear you, snoopybowl. I don't have a single wrinkle, but my cheeks are a bit lower than they were in my mid 40's (I'm 49 now). I went through 1.5 years of cancer treatment starting February 2023 and I'm now on Estrogen blockers, so I know my skin is still recovering. But, I feel the loss of bounciness.
God i wish your products get shipped internationally!!!! Im from India and ive been following you for a long time Mam can you please recommend a routine involving kojic acid vitamin c retinol glycolic acid etc to tackle uneven skin tone especially with drugstore products available everywhere🙏❤
Hey I'm from India and I use all of the specified ingredients in my routine with cheap Indian pharmacy products. The way I do it is I use a routine called skin cycling, where I use exfoliating products and retinoids at night on alternating days keeping one day for rest in between where I don't use any actives and let my skin heal. I use formula RX 5percent AHA BHA toner, and I use adapene gel as my retinoids for my acne prone skin, I also use benzyl peroxide wash 5 percent with it too. And on every mornings I use a cream which has kojic acid and vitamin c and layer that up with sunscreen. If you want a cream that contains kojic acid and vitamin C, just search it in google you'll get plenty of creams found in Indian pharmacy with similar compounds. You can use a similar routine if you want to incorporate actives without irritating your skin. Make sure to give ample rest days too as I've seen results come in faster when I let my skin rest well.
Please name a few affordable products that work against hyperpigmentation for people of color. Many products I’ve tried don’t work on me as a strongly melanated person, even though it claimed to be against hyperpigmentation.
Make sure you don’t have insulin resistance cause it can cause something that gets confused with discoloration (I’ve had this and to fix it I drink spearmint tea), i forgot what it’s called. I’m black but for me I’ve never had a hyperpigmentation product not work, and my mom too, she uses murad which is like 42$ 💀😧, I use the b,c,e moisturizer from the inkey list (10$ 🤭) and we both use rosehip seed oil. Anything with vitamin c should do the trick. And sunscreen of course. But im brown skinned so maybe it’s different.
Makeup by Monicaa here in UA-cam has some good recommendations for darker skin tones. She has a strong focus on brown girl friendly products. She uses a few products for hyperpigmentation. One that I remember off the top of my head is the Cocokind chlorophyll discoloration serum.
It’s easier said than done, I have an uneven skin tone but I also have very reactive inflammation prone skin. So using actives usually doesn’t work well for me. I stick to azelaic acid but even that is a bit too much on the skin around my mouth sometimes. The darkness is around my mouth and undereye. I also have PEI on my cheeks from hormonal acne. The rash around my mouth (nasolabial folds and sides of my chin) is maybe perioral dermatitis or maybe roceasa .
Love your channel! My skin is so much better after watching your tips. My biggest problem is now sun spots and broken veins on my chin and around my nose.
Interesting! The awareness about skin tone, hyperpigmentation, etc. and what to do about it, must be working. Otherwise, light to medium skin tints probably wouldn't be as popular as they are.
Thank you so much for your videos. They are absolutely wonderful. I am 65 years old, and my complexion is very white. Could you give me some suggestions as far as wrinkles around my eyes, mouth and forehead. Could you give me some suggestions on skin care and the steps I should be using them in. Oh, and any suggestions on how to lessen acne scars? By the way, your skin looks gorgeous.
I have been looking at your channel for a while, and your content is so helpful.... Can you make some content about haircare as well please....😶🌫️ Like hydration or exfoliating etc. thank you 💛
Totally agree! And I have seen this at work in myself. I don't wear foundation. Never have. I just always preferred the way my own skin looked. So, I worked on making my skin tone even rather than trying to achieve the same thing with makeup. Feels so good to see my skin looking better. 😊
What exact do you put on your skin as far as makeup goes together your skin so flawless? I realize it’s your skincare products but what else? It gets better with each video
When should you consider do a face laser treatment? I heard you say not to burn off a layer of your skin to have glass skin. But in what circumstances should you try a face laser treatment? And do dermatologist perform them?
It’s a whole lot of things. Current beauty standards, how you dress, how you talk. How you express yourself. I had a sidekick in 2000 I don’t even know and I was texting everyone and planning parties. I love that in ny early 30s I still have hair, smooth skin, dark hair. And vigorous. My younger peers tell me I look younger than my younger co workers with more experience but I have more experience in life. I just went from healthcare to barber. So rewarding and people are not yelling at me 24/7
This has been my philosophy for over 30 years now. I've always strive to take care of my skin, especially uneven skin tone, and to this day, I have never worn a foundation. This is purely a personal choice as I've always felt wearing foundation would only enhance my uneven skin tone by making it look grey and ashy. People don't believe me when I tell them I'm not wearing any foundation. I've had uneven skin all my life and back in the day, there simply were not the amount of shade ranges for brown skin that there is today. I can't bear the thought of painting my skin in a skin-like colour!
Can you do a review of products to help with even skin tone? I know this is kind of vague, but I was just wondering on suggestions. That or even just how to tell an even skin tone and skincare tips to achieve/maintain one? Thank you so much for videos! 😊
She's not going to do that because she's created an entire range of products on discoloration and hyperpigmentation. Those are the only products she promotes for this issue.
My current issue is this. I don’t have any dark spots or really anything other than my face is just WAY too pale. My skin tone everywhere else on my body is darker, a light tan colour naturally but for some reason only my face is ultra white. Completely devoid of any healthy color that the rest of my body has, it is not a good look trust me. I’ve tried face tanning creams etc but I usually end up hating them because they look splotchy. I take care of my skin and have a good skin regime but if I could fix this issue of being so unhealthily pale looking only on my face I would be extremely happy. Any suggestions would be welcome ❤❤ ❤❤❤❤
I'm in my mid 50's and have a limited budget. Any advice for an affordable and effective product to eliminate the need for any foundation? I'm really frustrated with trying to wear makeup anymore 😢
Hi Dr. Idriss! What do you think of the eminence organic skincare line? Can you please make a review? Especially there bakuchiol moisturizer and bamboo firming serum?
My skin tone is very uneven and has always appeared pinkish/red to me. I also have under eye melasma since giving birth to my baby. I have very very sensitive/reactive skin. I only use moisturizer and sunscreen daily as far as skincare goes. I recently started to incorporate Good Molecules retinol cream every other night, which surprisingly hasn’t caused irritation. I have used it for about 2 months and haven’t noticed much of a difference in my skin. Can you recommend a good place for me to start to help in evening out my skin tone? I’m terrified of having horrible reactions/inflammation/breakouts from using anything too harsh. It’s happened more times than I can count, and takes my skin weeks/months to recover 😬
I’m taking you up on your offer to answer! I need redness relief beyond topicals. IPL has helped but not enough. What next? I am absolutely religious about UVA/B protection day after day, rain or shine, indoors or outdoors. Thank you!
I'm going to need to learn how to makeup eventually, aren't I? I use sunscreen religiously, but makeup is a foreign concept that always looks weird on me. And tinted sunscreen makes me look like I slathered myself in extra dark foundation 😭
sunscreen, vitamin c, niacinamide. made all my post inflammatory hyperpigmentation vanish. if you're talking uneven skin texture, like those deep scars you get from picking and such, you're gonna have to get a deeper treatment, like an acid peel
Should we apply sunscreen inside the home when we have full big windows. But sun is not coming inside but it's too bright . Should we apply? And if sun comes after curtains still we should apply sunscreen? Plz guide
I am very translucent skin, theoretically because I have Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, and my cheeks get red and very hot even in the dead of a NYC winter. Would this be considered an issue of pigmentation?
Ok I’m almost 40 and have been looking so dull lately. My old brightening tricks aren’t working anymore. I have semi dark circles and unevenness around my mouth aswell. I know I need a vitamin c, serum, and ?? PLEASE HELP MEE!! Also thank you for giving us such precious older sister talks by giving it to us straight 😂🤗💖
Add some masking into your routine. If you haven’t had a full skincare routine in a while it will take some time for the skin to rejuvenate. Spf and a good cleansing routine based on your skin and climate.
Hi Doc, I’m mid 40’s. I’ve been working on my uneven tone (faithfully) for about 3 years (I know…tsk tsk). But, I wanted to know why my skin gets dark patches (more than a ‘spot’ and usually the size of a quarter or larger). It seems to be my neck, chest and apples of my cheeks. They darken (like my freckles) in the summer. Is there a miracle product out there for that? Thank you and I LOVE your shorts. SO HELPFUL. I came across your channel when I was trying to learn about slugging.
It's everything in my opinion I seen people with uneven skin tone and look really young I believe everything on the skin like texture wrinkles lines skin tone the firmness the number one thing to me is wrinkles on the forehead and firmness
I’m super curious about how you even out a skin tone (or what to even consider an even skin tone) when you’re naturally freckled. I want my skin to age gracefully (yes, mega sun protection, of course), but I don’t want to erase a major facial feature I’ve had my whole life in pursuit of one definition of an even skin tone. How do you balance that?
I have the peptide moisturizer from inkey list, I CAN use that twice a day right? Im introducing their retinol slowly once a week, their vitamin C serum every other day, and the ordinary azelaic acid once a week. Every other day I use the famous snail mucin. Is this okay? How often could I use the ordinary glycolic acid? I have freckled skin, slightly sensitive, some "vein redness"? around my nose and on my chin, 31 year old. My main goal, thanks to you, is my overall skin tone. Thank you so much for how much I've already learned from you❤😊
I have redness in my nasolabial folds and struggle with perioral dermatitis 😢 ive been putting a zinc and copper cream on it, bacitracin zinc on it, and sometimes diaper rash cream at night or as a mask in the am. And i switched to xylitol toothpast with no fluoride. It's mostly healed except around the base of my nose and my nasolabial folds wjere its just stubbornly red and inflamed. Is there anything more I can do without going on systemic antibiotics?
I’ve been following you for a while and am considering your skin care products. Fine lines and wrinkles I can deal with. It’s the sagging jowls and crepey neck that I’m fighting. Are your skin care product’s products going to help with that while evening out my skin tone?
Hi Dr.Shereene,i doubt you'll see my comment, but ill try anyway Im a natural red head, and my skin is uneven, but my problem is the lack of pigment especially under my eyes,in that case is there anything that can help with thath kind of unevenness? Thank you ps: i love your videos, i live in France,i really appreciate that you share products that we can easily find in here😊
Hey! I am in need of help as I just got out of the hospital for a bad allergic reaction. I was silly and tried two new products at the same time but I think it was a sample of Niacinamide serum I was trying as my skin also didn’t like (but didn’t react like that) to The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% serum. This one was the Kiehl’s 5% Niacinamide serum. But my skin loves the Glow Recipe Dew Drops so I’m not allergic to Niacinamide but need something stronger than the dew drops to help with my hyperpigmentation. Either that or it was the Revolution pink clay mask but have had pink clay on before? So we don’t know for sure what I am allergic to unfortunately. Would you have any suggestions for a kind Niacinamide serum like the Glow Recipe Dew Drops, but a bit stronger for targeted spots? I unfortunately can’t buy your products as I live in Australia and I don’t think you ship here? I wish I could come and see you in person! Any advice on another Niacinamide serum or a similar serum with same benefits would be amazing! TIA 🙏🏼
Dr. Idriss, any tips for vitiligo on fair skin? The spots look almost even with the skin tone right amount of spf daily. But can the same actives be used for other issues? Thanks ❤
I would love to see a ‘breastfeeding safe’ video for melasma. It’s pretty bad right now and I cannnnnt wait to start using alpha arbutin, would love to hear alternatives 🥲
I'm using sunscreen religiously as part of my routine, trying to treat melasma. It's so confusing! I've been using a Korean sunscreen since it doesn't burn my eyes as bad. However I don't know if it's right for my concerns. Do I really need tinted sunscreen? A mineral one? Is it even possible to find one that doesn't burn? Help! I've literally got a basket of sunscreens to gift trying to find one that works for me.
I was born with freckles (scottish irish) the sun damage as a teen and now approaching 60 😮 and live full time in a sunny hot climate. I wear daily dose of SPF and rarely spend time in sun but they are getting worse.
Okay but my tone is pretty even (very limited sun exposure most of my life, sunscreen used all the while). My forehead wrinkles and texture are the killers here... And I was born with my dark eye circles...
Can Ketoconazole shampoo be used on Cheekbones for pigmentation? I never had freckles as a kid but I have what look like freckles only on my upper checks
I think that is for fungal infection? It won't do anything for melasma or hyperpigmentation. Her product line is geared to hyperpigmentation! Vit c, aha/bha, retinol
@jenavasexton1645 No not a fungal infection. That's the thing I'm asking as I'm not sure if it's tinea versicolor as I do have this on other parts of my skin (Ketoconazole is used to treat this)
Tinea versicolor is a fungal infection, after a quick search. So treating the infection would probably help. The shampoo can be drying on the skin, I've heard.
Yes! How to even my skin tone, I am Latin American and so my family has a history of hyperpigmentation. What product could you recommend that could work besides Sunscreen
Hi Dr @shereen, Im afraid to use the hydroquinone due to carcinogenicity linked to it. Is retinol/retinal can deliver good result as well when it comes to addressing hyperpigmentation?
I am fair and always had a rosy undertone. Now that I’m in perimenopause my face is beet red. My eyes are red & irritated too. Derm treated for rosacea but Metro cream and antibiotics didn’t do much and gave me awful side effects. What now? I don’t know how to correct it
I have been using vitamin c, tretinoin, and hydroquinone and I still have freckles and pigmentation and I use so much sunscreen that is crazy idk what else to do
After waking up in the morning,i used to go to gym,so i apply sunscreen.then come to home and take my bath.after this I'll apply my actives, I've to apply actives in clean skin,so I've to wast my face with a strong cleanser.is it good to use strong cleanser at morning?
Would honestly love a long and holistic guide about discoloration such as PIH, melasma, sun spots and etc. Could never get enough of discoloration themed videos.
Yess❤
High grade laser removal, same machine they use for tattoo removal at medispas (the best ones though I can’t speak for lesser ones) for Melasma. Boom.
I support this. It is very much needed
Andrea Ali is amazing and truly transparent with her content as you our lovely favorite doc

She has an entire video about this topic on her channel. Covers the difference between hyperpigmentation and vascularity and gives products for both cases. I can’t remember the exact title, but I think I found it searching her name and under eyes.

Also thank you for giving us such precious older sister talks by giving it to us straight 😂🤗💖
Add some masking into your routine. If you haven’t had a full skincare routine in a while it will take some time for the skin to rejuvenate. Spf and a good cleansing routine based on your skin and climate.
If you had one product to recommend against redness what would it be? Sunscreen apart. Thank you so so much for all your work ❤
She has her own product for redness and puffiness. The depuffer. I'd guess that's what she'd recommend since she formulated it herself!
I might also check her rosacea/redness vidoes for other products. Tranexamic acid has been recommended.
Hi Doc,
I’m mid 40’s.
It's everything in my opinion
I seen people with uneven skin tone and look really young I believe everything on the skin like texture wrinkles lines skin tone the firmness
the number one thing to me is wrinkles on the forehead and firmness
I’m super curious about how you even out a skin tone (or what to even consider an even skin tone) when you’re naturally freckled. I want my skin to age gracefully (yes, mega sun protection, of course), but I don’t want to erase a major facial feature I’ve had my whole life in pursuit of one definition of an even skin tone. How do you balance that?
Tell me us best ingredients to use for even skin
I love AndreaAli❤❤❤
I have the peptide moisturizer from inkey list, I CAN use that twice a day right? Im introducing their retinol slowly once a week, their vitamin C serum every other day, and the ordinary azelaic acid once a week. Every other day I use the famous snail mucin. Is this okay? How often could I use the ordinary glycolic acid? I have freckled skin, slightly sensitive, some "vein redness"? around my nose and on my chin, 31 year old. My main goal, thanks to you, is my overall skin tone. Thank you so much for how much I've already learned from you❤😊
Please talk about tretinoin/retinol application and the destroying of the meibomian glands around your eyes! Not much info on it at this time
I have redness in my nasolabial folds and struggle with perioral dermatitis 😢 ive been putting a zinc and copper cream on it, bacitracin zinc on it, and sometimes diaper rash cream at night or as a mask in the am. And i switched to xylitol toothpast with no fluoride. It's mostly healed except around the base of my nose and my nasolabial folds wjere its just stubbornly red and inflamed. Is there anything more I can do without going on systemic antibiotics?
Can any age use your skin line? Because I wanted to purchase but I’m 22 fighting hormonal acne and blackheads
I live in Brazil. So where I'm gonna get your products. Do a video about international products for skin tone🙏
How can you treat melasma and rosacea? I have melasma and mild rosacea in the same area that I have melasma? Thank you
Please, what do you recommend for uneven, mature skin with menopause acne skin prompts?
What you think about zo skin health brand. You think their products can be damaging for skin barrier
This is true I kept my skin tone up by great creams and sun screen zero sun and I am fine in my 50 s
I’ve been following you for a while and am considering your skin care products. Fine lines and wrinkles I can deal with. It’s the sagging jowls and crepey neck that I’m fighting. Are your skin care product’s products going to help with that while evening out my skin tone?
Hi Dr.Shereene,i doubt you'll see my comment, but ill try anyway
Im a natural red head, and my skin is uneven, but my problem is the lack of pigment especially under my eyes,in that case is there anything that can help with thath kind of unevenness?
Thank you
ps: i love your videos, i live in France,i really appreciate that you share products that we can easily find in here😊
TIA 🙏🏼
Thank you I didn’t realize that!
Dr. Idriss, any tips for vitiligo on fair skin? The spots look almost even with the skin tone right amount of spf daily. But can the same actives be used for other issues? Thanks ❤
I need to repair my skin tone but I need to be told exactally what to use. What if I have different issues that require different acids?
I would love to see a ‘breastfeeding safe’ video for melasma. It’s pretty bad right now and I cannnnnt wait to start using alpha arbutin, would love to hear alternatives 🥲
What should we do for pigmentation...around lips forehead ha cheekbones
random but can you please talk about skincare routine after using accutane? i am struggling
Does the same skincare routine you talk about for anti aging work for both male and female skin?
I was born with freckles (scottish irish) the sun damage as a teen and now approaching 60 😮 and live full time in a sunny hot climate. I wear daily dose of SPF and rarely spend time in sun but they are getting worse.
Okay but my tone is pretty even (very limited sun exposure most of my life, sunscreen used all the while). My forehead wrinkles and texture are the killers here... And I was born with my dark eye circles...
Where is this sweater from?!
That's the thing I'm asking as I'm not sure if it's tinea versicolor as I do have this on other parts of my skin (Ketoconazole is used to treat this)
You might want to get checked by a doctor first to determine what the pigmentation is. It could be a lot of things.
Tinea versicolor is a fungal infection, after a quick search. So treating the infection would probably help. The shampoo can be drying on the skin, I've heard.
@jenavasexton1645 It's not used regularly, only for 5 days within 2 days it's usually cleared up already. Ketoconazole is magic stuff!
Yes! How to even my skin tone, I am Latin American and so my family has a history of hyperpigmentation. What product could you recommend that could work besides Sunscreen
You can check her full hyperpigmentation videos.
Can I book an appointment with you and how - is video call possible I am in the UK.
What now? I don’t know how to correct it
where to buy major fade products in india
Is a auger scrub ok to use to exfoliate the face? If not what would be good to use.
Sugar scrub
From what I understand, chemical exfoliants are the best as exfoliants with particles may cause microtears in the skin and are too harsh.
Most derms prefer chemical exfoliants as opposed to physical.
Would love to hear your thoughts on the VT reedle shot!
Idk … I think it’s both bc there’s so many ppl I know with clear skin that’s basically even but their fine lines and volume loss gives it away .
Bc the girl in the video u stitched has clear even skin but her volume loss and little wrinkle near eyes makes her look old
Yeah - volume loss makes someone look haggard. Completely agree
I'm 36 when do I start taking some kind of treatment for wrinkles?
