    I loved what Steve Smith had to say about him. " If I lined up in the slot, he lined up in the slot. If I lined up as a running back, he lined up as a linebacker. If I parked my car in the parking lot, he was the parking attendant. Champ Bailey lined up everywhere.”

      NFL Matchup Highlights. When?

    • @nflmatchuphighlights
      @nflmatchuphighlights 5 років тому +138

      Champ came into the league in 1999. Darrell Green had been with the Redskins his entire career before calling it quits after the 2002 season. Deion joined Green and Bailey for one season in 2000 and then retired in 2001. Deion came out of retirement to play for the Ravens in 2004 and 2005 but then called it quits for good shortly after the 05 season

      It's probably a good thing for everyone else that Deion was hurt most of his time on the Redskins. With Champ, Deion, or Green on opposite sides of the field where are you supposed to throw?

    • @nflmatchuphighlights
      @nflmatchuphighlights 5 років тому +51

      Kyle Adrien they were still better than about 90 percent of the league. Those guys may have lost a step, but Green and Deion were always a step or two faster than everyone else for the majority of their career. Even if they lost a little speed along the way, they had plenty of speed left in the tank!

    The best and most complete corner that I've ever seen. Athletic ability, physicality, aggressiveness, tackling ability, concentration, feel for the game, reading the game, preparedness, technique, you name it, he had everything a corner needs to have at an incredibly high level. He even had great hands, too! He was a cheat code!

    • @manbok2035

      He literally shut down an entire half of the field. Whatever side he was of the field he was on, forget passing there.

    • @marktuttle6003
      @marktuttle6003 2 роки тому +4

      This reel didn't even show how great he was and shutting down screen passes. He would split two or three blockers and upend the ball carrier. He's the 2nd best coverage db of all time but the best one never tackled anybody and this Champ was also the best tackling corner ever (since they made how Night train tackled illegal)

    • @diggz691

      I'll argue with anyone until im blue in the face that Champ at his best is the best corner to ever do it. 05-06 is almost incomprehensible how good he was, 18 picks in 2 seasons with the small amount of targets.. got robbed of DPOY and would have had so many more interceptions if he had decent corners playing opposite of him QBs simply just quit throwing it anywhere near him

      Bailey was not unique - even; if not ESPECIALLY - in Washington; Bailey had an heir apparent when Denver pilfered him; Brian Davis. What all three cornerbacks had in common was the same defensive backfield coach (later defensive coordinator, and eventually head coach) - Richie Pettibon. Over his entire pre-head coach tenure with Washington, he didn't JUST turn out defensive backs that could cover like Alfredo sauce on pasta, he could crank out defensive backs (especially safeties) that coud punish - and - more than once, the SAME back could do both. Look at the Washington defensive backfield before Champ got drafted, and after he got pilfered by the Broncos - and while Pettibon was growing defensive backs in his garden.

    Him not winning the 2006 defensive player of the year was one of the biggest robberies in history. Stats wise he allowed 4 receptions no tds had 10 picks and 2 tds. Those numbers were insane. Less than 40 yards allowed all season. Jason Taylor won with a solid season but had one huge game in national TV and from then on they couldn't stop talking about him. Champ truly was the best corner I have ever seen. When it comes to defending everything from run to pass to zone. Just for good measure Champ had 98 tackles 84 were solo.

    I'm 57 years old, and he's the best corner I've ever seen. All the picks are in the highlights, but he would literally shut down half of the field. In 2006, he allowed 4 completions on passes thrown at him. 4 in 16 games. In other words, that year, a receiver caught a pass once every 4 games if Champ was covering him. That's insane!

    It's funny watching him in Washington. After that early part of his career people were much more careful when throwing his way.

    If Champ wasn’t pickin it off, Lynch was makin the receiver pay. Having those two dudes on the same side of the field, even with Lynch down in the box half the time, was a complete fuckin nightmare. Loved it

    There haven't been a whole lot guys who could just go out there and you knew their side of the field was taken care of. Dude practically lived in the Pro Bowl for a reason. Plus, I bet Jake Plummer was glad they were on the same team so Champ wouldn't victimize him.

    Best Bronco between Elway and Manning and it is not even close. Pretty much single-handedly kept us relevant during that time. The playoff win over the back-to-back super bowl chamption Patriots in 2005 was all thanks to him. Wish he could have gotten a ring.

    3:32 Champ is NOT just a best tackling CB. He was great at EVERYTHING. Coverage, Reading offensive plays and call, Adjustment for the deflecting and interception, Great athleticism, rarely panicking even when he got beat up by receiver and also great tackling. Champ is the real deal and the greatest CB right next to Deion Sanders and Rod Woodson. He is better than Charles Woodson and Darrelle Revis no doubt.
