Playing 20 years at cornerback is so insane. And he played in 3 decades 🤯
Forreal
and he was still one of the fastest players in the league throughout!
Basically didn't miss a game for his first 10 years. Even then, after 1992, he didn't miss a game from 1993-99. By that time his age was showing but still was playing at All Pro level.
Also punt returner
Green was also a technically great CB. Hard to find footage of him getting best or missing coverage. He also Mentored Champ Bailey who people need to realize was the best CB of the 2000’s & was also freak of nature in terms of speed and versatility.
Darrell Green was the definition of an elite athlete. That punt return for a touchdown while holding his ribs was legendary. Dude ran a 4.4 at 50 years old. That’s crazy.
4.4 at 50 years old?!?!! Remarkably unbelieveable.
LOOK AT HIM HOLDIN' HIS SH*T DOE!
Agree. An elite athlete & a football player combined is so unbelievably rare considering that NFL teams & stats point to players losing speed starting at age 30. To have that speed while hitting & being hit is is superhuman.
@@Trancymind To ran that
tore his rib cartilage on the hurdle. to tear that and still keep running is crazy
As good a player he is, he’s an even better person.
1000% truth. He is a man of god and just has a huge heart. A family man that happens to be the greatest football player of all time in my opinion. He is very humble and modest and optimizes the good football players that help and serve their respective communities. Great comment! I said the same in my comment too.
@@BlueRivers He literally lives a couple blocks away from me and he lets people play on his basketball court but you cant play innapropriate music
Just remember Darrell Green holds the longest streak of an interception at 19 STRAIGHT SEASONS. No one is going to touch that.
Actually its 20 straight seasons.
@@southlake631 he didn't have any in 2002
@@redmustangredmustang - alright, 19... as he was used in the nickel package for this 20th season.
Ed Reed was better
@@AccentBwoy - Ed Reed was a great DB, but he was a Safety, not a Cornerback.
Announcer: And he's gone!
Darrell Green: Nuh-uh!
"Tootsie Rolls make you run fast" - Darrell Green
I made a comment saying put Darrell on the LOB in place of Brandon Browner.
Him and Marshawn could have bonded over candy. 🤣
😂😂😂😂😂bravo
My favorite NFL sound bite, haha!

This almost makes me wanna cry. We used to be such a great organization
i know man,,,im tearing up myself.....Miss that dude! He was the best!
I know man. I know. It hurts honestly. Hope you got to see his jersey retiring video. A good one!
Dan Snyder destroyed this team😡
That was my team! What a legend and one of my all time favorites
19 years in the league is wild.
“20”
20 seasons actually.
At CORNER tho 😵💫
That’s not even a QB AT DB EVEN CRAZIER!
And on one team.
Thank you for this. Most fans Outside of the DMV don’t know how great Darrell Green really was. Pure athlete & a lockdown corner.
Including myself.
Incredible!
I’m from the DMV and didn’t know much about this cat 😳.. yea he was him. Legit 💪🏾
Granted I’m kinda a youngin being a 92 baby, but still lol
Yeah buddy
he was a great corner....but he did get beat plenty too. He wasnt flawless as I think some want to remember him as. nevertheless, still was a HOF''er.
We need an NFL Legends Throwback for Marshall Faulk
💯
Fastest player of his era. Including Deion
Fastest player all time
More importantly a better player. I'd take Darrell Greens 20 years over any other CB career ever on my team.
@@dominiquewilson Bob Hayes was actually a tiny bit faster. Which I find annoying as a Washington fan lol
@@coppulor6500 idk. They both ran at completely different times and technology and they damn near had identical times
A lot of people don't realize that he was just a great player, period. A leader on the field, and 100 percent hustle all the time. AND also pointed out below, he had extraordinary longevity.
70's, 80's and 90's football just felt different man,
Master of the Chasedown tackle
Ask Tony D and E.D. 😂 Two RBs you never caught once they free.
Not only is top speed what made him so dangerous, it's his longevity at having speed. Being able to have an INT in 19 consecutive seasons, with two of them being at the age of 40 and 41 is wild. Very few people last even half as long as Green does and most lose their speed, yet he always was able to keep up with everyone. It's what made him so good for so long.
💯💯
Darrell Green deserves more credit for being one of the greatest defensive players ,CB and DBs of all time.
He played 20 seasons with the Washington Redskins and that’s insane as heck. Darrell Green is the man. He was the fastest man for a reason. He went to Texas A&M-Kingsville.🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈
On one team too back when franchises were loyal and didn't just cut or trade players.
@@hitek9too255 yeah, today’s players have no loyalty whatsoever for a team that drafted them to stay put. It’s hard to play for one team in today’s NFL when they don’t even wanna play for them anymore. It’s all about the money and no passion for the sport. Roger Goddell is another problem for why the league is the way it is right now. Roger is the most hated man as a commissioner.
Texas A&I. A & M is a record company.
H wasn't the fastest man. Bo Jackson and Hershel Walker were faster. Hershel Walker actually BEAT Darrryl Green in a head-to-head 100-yd race. What's makes this even more impressive is that Hershel Walker weighed 235-lbs at the time he beat Darryl Green. So not only could he out run Darryl Green, but he could also run him over if need be.
@@user-sg8kq7ii3ythere are a bunch of athletes who are faster than him. Someone had to look that up and it’s a lot.
Mr Redskin Darrell Green. His closing speed on passes was insane. He'd pick off the QB before the receiver knew what happened. Legend.
My all-time favorite player behind Sean Taylor! I've got a ton of Darrell Green memorabilia in my man cave. Love me some DG!! Man I miss my Redskins! HTTR forever!!!
Even as a chief fan at heart, and just now learning more about this fella, I lowkey been considering adding him and Taylor to my jersey collection
Great fundamentals with his tackling. He didn’t drag people down, he wrapped a leg or 2.
Man I miss those days. I loved watching him play.
Me too..me too ; ( He just made football fun to watch! Thank you Darrell for all the great memories!
Darrell Green, Man. a lockdown corner before that term existed. Glad i got to watch him play when i could.
Deion was more flamboyant so he got a lot more attention. But Darrell was right there with him year after year for best CB in the league through the 90s.
Darrell being humble outlasted Deion in the NFL.
Deion was great no doubt but to me rod Woodson and Darrell green were my favorite of the 80s and 90s
D Green. CB 1 of all time
Skipped his OT pick against the Titans (Oilers at the time) in the 91 season that kept the undefeated record alive. He basically made the game winning play in the closest game of the streak that year.
Eighteen straight years with an interception is insane
19
Damn this video was amazing! I teared up at the end.
As a kid who grew up a Redskins fan and watched Darrell for years, this was such a well done tribute to his career.
The man was something special.
Announcer: “Nobody’s gonna catch him.”
Darrell Green: “And I took that personally.”
That was a friggin epic play man! You dont see that kind of speed; to chase down an NFL or Wide Receiver or running back that has a 10 yard lead in full gallop. That is just insane closing speed!
@@BlueRiversthat's a fact!
I saw his hall of fame speech live. Outstanding career and one of the best corners ever.
Best damn Cornerback of All Time Period. HTTR!!!!!
I remember nearly all of those plays. Great great player and even a nicer guy.
If you gave him right now to go train, Darrell Green could probably play as a dime corner or on special teams. He hasn't played in 22 years, but he can probably still play if he trained his body again.
lol he is SIXTY FOUR dude. Your body diminishes pretty markedly in your 60s.
stop. even he wouldnt agree with that.

With those accolades why is everyone talking about Deion as the greatest cornerback?
@@jeromewilson2949 deion is one of the best but deion also loved the media and to talk shit. Deion is also the only player to play in a super bowl and world series
@@jeromewilson2949Deon would barely play against the run, disqualifying for the GOAT conversation just based on that IMO. He was ridiculously fast and great cover guy though.
Don’t forget, hofer
That last tackle of Rice was PlayStation sick -- that guy had TWO MORE gears than anybody else.
He was in Madden 2002, the first Madden on the xbox. He was still really fast even then.
Beware the unstoppable speedster! Darrell Green defines the meaning of having a need for speed!
Not only freakishly fast, but maintained his speed to a freakishly old age
One thing I just noticed about green is for a small guy he was and I'm sure still is is he is an underrated and great tackler.
LEGEND.
I got to see him live in his last season in ‘02 I was 6 years old! But Seeing these Vintage highlights I understand Completely now why he is loved in our city the way he is. #28 ❤️💛 BEAST
DG = the GOAT. I was honored and privledged to watch him play being a long time commanders fan. Thank you Darrell for being a great person and football player. Too many great plays to list. Im convinced he is and was the best tackling cornerback of all time, The Eric Dickerson tackle i think is even more impressive than the Dorsett tackle. He made those tackles and interceptions all the time. Wish they would have put him back for more punt returns, but he got injured on a punt return so I can see why Coach Gibbs made the right call,
I’ve seen every Darrell Green video on UA-cam. This one was the best. Took me back to some moments that I had never seen before becoming a fan in 1989.
Darrell Green was the most amazing NFL player I’d ever seen. Definitely, the fastest. His closing speed was uncanny, which allowed him to catch so many fast runners from behind. They didn’t show it, but he caught Barry Sanders AND Napoleon Kaufman from behind.
Of the many HOFers the Redskins have, Darrell Green is arguably the best. Played an unbelievably long time at 20 years at a high level. Needless to say, the first jersey I ever owned.
The greatest Washington player in my opinion.
John Riggins and Mark Moseley are good shouts
@@kevinuchiha6830Absolutely
That is flat out greatness. This was quite enjoyable! Man hes fast, good stuff.
Eric Dickerson: " I knew he was coming....he was back there somewhere!" 😆
That tackle is the second greatest tackle behind the Larry Allen tackle,,,third is the Green/Dorestt tackle: so he gets two of out three in my book
@@BlueRivers definitely. Thank God for the facemasks. Diving head first into a players legs at full speed.
Coming from a Cowboy fan, its amazing that he played that long at such a high level. Much respect
as a Cowboys fan you should know that "Bullet" Bob Hayes is the NFL's original fastest man :) But yes Green was phenomenal
Best D Green highlight video I’ve seen. Excellent stuff thank you
Who's here because his jersey # will be retired tomorrow? Great highlights, many in the old, out-of-date, but so memorable RFK stadium where the atmosphere was electric when the Skins were playing. HTTR
The fastest player on the field at any time.
I really did love watching him. Blessed to have watched him and Ed Reed play. Two of the best.
Hershel Walker and Bo Jackson were faster, despite the fact that they weighed 60-lbs more than Green.
What an absolute stud
I've have the absolute luxury of watching Darrell Green throughout his entire career. And I am so amazed and so captivated by his play, I just want to thank him for playing for my hometown team, and for the great brilliance of Joe Gibbs and Bobby Beathard, whom saw the potential of a kid of Texas A&I, who later on, who be a first ballot HOFer. Thank you Darrell!!!!
Greatest CB ever, definitely NFL's fastest man, I think he is regarded as such not just because of his blazing speed but how long he was fast.
1:05 catching Tony Dorsett is all you need to show, because Tony was fast.
ya he ran a 4.3
I mean what else can be said aside from LEGEND? Hail to the Redskins ❤
Absolutely loved watching this man play !
His ‘91 upper deck card where he was labeled the fastest man was amazing!
My favorite football player of all time. Nobody was ever so competitive, so athletic and yet so nice all at the same time. Darrell Green was a quiet leader who led the team by example. I realize we couldn't afford Darrell getting injured, but I often wishe he returned more punts and kickoffs during his career.
He was incredible Athlete and kept Washington in every game
He is and ever will be our hero. He spent everything for gold and burgundy. He was and is a Legend. Every Rookie must listen and learn from him, to go to same way. Thx for all #28 🇺🇸🏈❤️
One thing that strikes me watching this clip is how good his tackling technique is on some of the chase downs. You don’t really see those ‘wrap the feet’ rugby tackles any more in the NFL, but he hit so many of them perfectly. He was just an amazing player. Like Frank Gifford said in his first season “he’s got speed to give away to his friends…”
Darrell green career as db has always been crazy to me not only for him having a interception in a season for almost 2 decades but his ability to keep his athleticism for all those years most dbs are washed like rbs by their late 20s but even being old as hell Darrell green was still able to run guys down
I don't usually comment but this is an amazing video. The use of both broadcast and NFL Films footage along with audio mixes is maybe the best highlight video I've seen. And nothing's missing, I could not think of a single DG moment that was left out and there were many that I had forgotten. Very well done.
Faster than my other favorite shutdown corner "Primetime". Reason i fell in love with the Washington Redskins. #HAILYEAH
Darrell wasn't just fast. He had great field presents. He took great angles and made great tackles. And great hands.
Darrell Green was one of the greatest if not the absolute best shut down fastest impactful CB in NFL History like for real for real
You write like a ten year old.
Redskins finally got a competent front office and we’re getting highlight tapes on NFL Throwback again. We are so back!
We’re not back quite yet, but we’re getting there, hopefully we can return as the Washington Redskins.
That would be icing on the cake, especially when they return to RFK in a couple years.
youre NOT back because first of all you are the commanders and it doesn't matter if you refer to them yourself as any other name. THey still are wearing the [HORRIBLE LOOKING] uniform of an expansion team (red, black and white) and their OFFICIAL name is the commanders, which is the worst name in sports. unless they go back to their old name and old uniform ---they will NEVER be back. (and spoiler alert, they are never going to be allowed to return to their old name, one of their owners even said that.)
Darrell Green Is The Best D. Back In My Books!! From Clint Duncan.
Darrell Green #1 always!!!!!!!
Everybody said "He is the fastest man" in his era. Nobody are before him and since him.
I guess you've never heard of Bob Hayes. You should learn more.
@@GeorgeDamon
Oops, I've forgotten a Olympic champion. Thank you.
Hershel Walker EASILY beat Darryl Green in a head-to-head 100-yd race. What made it even more impressive is that Hershel weighed like 235-lbs at that time, and he still SMOKED Green!
Not only was he super fast,he had great eye hand coordination to be able to catch all those deflected interception
Not only was Darrell Green fast, you'll note that many of these highlights really had nothing to do with speed, he was just a great football player.
One of the best in his position fast and would hit somebody and not be afraid. Unlike Dion Sanders, he wouldn't laid wood on anybody, Darrell Green would! Darrell Green played the game of football with class, and it was always a privilege to watch him play. I've been a washington redskins fan since I was a little boy in the late sixties and I've seen a lot of great ones on that team and he was one of them.
always one of my favorite players and a good Christian man, too!!!
What a great player Darrell Green was. Totally underrated
Seeing him run down Dickerson is crazy though because Dickerson was fast
To chase down an NFL running back that has a 10 yard head start at full gallop. That was the greatest tackle in NFL history!
And Dorsett was 1/10 faster than Dickerson. Green is a man of God and had God in him BEFORE the NFL.
Hershel Walker and Bo Jackson were both faster than Darryl Green
@@user-sg8kq7ii3y na for the simple fact dg ran a 10.08 100m. h walker ran a 10.26 and bo ran a 10.44 100 m, case closed
@@kennycarlson9996 Yet Herschel actually BEAT Darryl Green in a head-to-head 100-yd race, despite weighing 50-lbs more than Green...🙄
9:02 38 years old and the way he closed that ground on Rice. He was a freak.
I know the Riggins TD to win Superbowl 17 is the most iconic play in franchise history, but for me Green’s punt return against the Bears is my all-time favorite. Legendary.
I think we’re on the road to a great organization again
I played against Darrell in college twice, in both games he ran back at least one kickoff or a punt for a touchdown. His speed was ridiculous; but, the thing i remember the most was how physically tough and resilient he was. He wasn't a big man and we gave him some ridiculous shots and he kept getting up telling us that it was a great hit and run back to his huddle. Madden was right he was a great football player..
My fav playa
Fast as nobody, but his way to pick anything, this is an icredible man
Incredible player.
#21 played just like #28. He knew who to study. Two of the fastest corners the league will ever see. Darrell Green and his understudy Primetime the GOATS.
Darrell green i remember him he was a tremendous player 🔥
Was a Redskins fan in the UK as a kid in the late 80s' I can listen to Madden, Summerall and Gifford all day long
More than just the fastest man in the NFL for however many years, the guy was a great football player.
Seeing the O-Linemen trying to chase down Green on an INT is definitely........ something.....A for effort I guess 😂
Speaking of longevity DB’s can we PELASE get a Rod Woodson video. I think he’s one of the most underrated players ever
What made him so special was that he was consistent his whole career, always one of the fastest but also one of the best football players to ever play. He had speed but also intelligence to read quarterbacks and also perfect pursuit angles. The 80's and 90's had some great legendary football players. Those decades had the best NFL commentators as well. Now they are very generic just like ESPN.
DG not being in the hof is criminal, what a legend
He’s in. Inducted class of 2008
Tootsie Roll in his sock and still drove the VW he had in college. Had many players from Gibbs winning years on my mail route.
There is that legend floating around that he once ran a 4.2 in the 40 yard dash with just socks on...anybody know if that's confirmed out there? DG = THE GOAT!
Simply the best
Met him in Canton at a breakfast joint, he ordered so much food he offered me a pancake, so I can tell myself I had breakfast with a hall of famer. Also asked him if he was still on tootsie rolls, he said no, oh well.
What a player.
I was not a fan of either team…but I would love to watch one more Thanksgiving game of Dallas vs the Redskins.
It was like tradition.
Detroit vs the Bear in the early game and Dallas / Wash in the late one.
Those were the days
You always want somebody like # 55 blocking for you at 3:34, helps green get back to his feet, directs him away from would be tacklers before lighting up said tacklers
I remember watching that game when Eric Dickerson was running for a touchdown and I thought he was gone but here comes Darrell Green catching up to him. Truly an unbelievable athlete.
I was fortunate enough to watch Darrell Green run track in high school. Our schools competed in a lot of the same track meets in Houston. Obviously, he ran the sprint races....100 yard dash, 200 yard dash and the 4x100 relay. This was back in '77 & '78. They weren't using meters back then. I didn't race against Darrell because I was too slow for the sprint races. I ran the 400 and 4 x 400. The thing I remember about Darrell was that he was very small...I believe 5'8, but he was always the fastest guy on the track. He was cocky in that he let you know he was the fastest and yet nobody could beat him. He played football at Jones High School too, but he got a track scholarship to Texas A&I. Thurman Thomas's school was also at a lot of those track meets. Darrell smoked him every time in the 100 and 200. Back then I never would have thought he would end up in the HOF! He still looks the same at 60+ years old.
Hershel Walker is faster than Darryl Green
@@user-sg8kq7ii3y Are you talking 60 yards or 100 yards? I think Darrell beats him 9 out of 10 times.
The fastest man in the nfl
My absolute fav Redskin!!!!
Watch the old NFL Fastest Man competitions and look at the clock on the side of the track, he was running 4.1
Wrong. The NFL Fastest Man contests were 60 yards, not 40.
@@Jackson-pq4zn
