    You may be observing it in the video, but I think it's worth mentioning that you should sand in the direction of the rotation of the bit, as in, the bit would like to roll along the edge to be sanded. Going against rotation gives ridges.

    Awesome tutorial and tips. What tool would you recommend for sanding larger pieces of foam? Ive been told detail sanders are a bad idea and orbital sanders can be very hit or miss. Ive heard Sheet sanders and belt sanders are good, but the only belt sanders readily available here are handheld, though I could just turn it upside down.
    I seek your guidance oh great foam god!

    • @CosplayApprentice
      @CosplayApprentice  3 роки тому +2

      For the most part I would try to avoid sanding large areas of the foam wherever possible. If you need to, the type of foam you are using will make a big difference in how smooth you can get it and what type of sander would work the best. What is it that you are needing to sand the large area for and what type of foam are you using? :) Thanks for the wonderful compliments! That made my day!! :)

      @@CosplayApprentice Hi, thanks for replying so quickly. Its mainly if Im making a big piece like a sword or some other large scale weapon prop and need to lets say bevel an edge or something. Ive seen people using dremels but they always seem to leave a somewhat uneven bevel, but maybe thats just the experience of the people using them, but thats besides the point. Basically it's for if I need to bevel foam or maybe even sand down textures like the texture found on floormat foam.
      Thanks for your tips already, I really do appreciate the help. :)

    • @CosplayApprentice
      @CosplayApprentice  3 роки тому +2

      If that is the case then I would definitely go with more of a belt sander option. Even if it it handheld you can clamp it down to a bench or something to secure it. But that is a good way to go for long sections of sanding. For the beveling it's even better if you can get a table top one that has an adjustable angle on the plate. That will allow you to be more precise about your bevels. :)

    • @CosplayApprentice
      @CosplayApprentice  4 роки тому +3

      I would recommend a combination of using a can of computer air spray and a microfiber cloth. The air should get most of it and can get into little cracks and then the microfiber cloth will help catch anything left behind :)

  • @thewaltman4

    I’m curious would you be able to sand channels (for placing metal rods to strengthen a prop) without a dremel? Reason I ask is that I’m probably going to make maybe at least one~two Cosplay costumes but I know I won’t have any usage for the tool after I complete the sets.

    • @CosplayApprentice
      @CosplayApprentice  3 роки тому

      You can sand a channel by hand, you may want to wrap sand paper around a dowel or something to do it. It will take a very long time to do it by hand. I would highly recommend spending $20 on the Dremel tool and save yourself a ton of time and frustration. Or you can use a wood burning tool/soldering iron to burn in a channel to do that as well. :)

    hello! i'm trying to make mold for a project. part of it, i'm using EVA foam. but i'm kinda worried that cement would stick to the stick foam when it completely cures. would heat sealing the foam lessen that problem? what would you suggest?

    • @CosplayApprentice
      @CosplayApprentice  Рік тому

      To make sure I understand the situation, you are trying to make a mould to pour concrete into and want to use EVA foam as part of the mould but you are worried the concrete will stick to it, is that right?

      i'v seen some videos and they're using styrofoam. but i'm not sure if i wanna go that way since it can be messy afterwards. so i'm trying to see if eva foam is a better replacement.

    • @CosplayApprentice
      @CosplayApprentice  Рік тому

      I haven’t tried this before but I think heat sealing is a good idea, it will help close up the pores in the foam so there will be less to grip to. I wonder with concrete if using something like baby powder or something like Vaseline would be better for helping prevent the concrete from sticking as well? Sounds like a fun project!! Let me know how it goes! :)
