Please take kamuis words serious regarding safety. My stepfather worked without a mask for years and suffers from asthma now. Another person had his dremel drum snapped and it would have flown right into his eye if it wasn't for his safety goggles, which stopped the projectile. Safety Is Key
Paying the money for a good respirator is worth it, plus make sure you have good ventilation for the fumes www.allenamis.com/eva-foam-safety-tips/ just like a stormtrooper helmet, respirators only filter out particulates, not fumes. If you want to save on cleaning your vacuum there is this ua-cam.com/video/HaScmB3zY1A/v-deo.html
Had a welding instructor once who said, “ you can always hold things with a prosthetic hand, you can stand on a prosthetic foot, YOU CANNOT SEE OUT OF A GLASS EYE.”
got the 4000 gen 1 i think almost 10 years ago, i use it for my hobbies and work to cut small screws or what ever stainless need to be adjusted. they are a great tuff tool.
I need to leave a comment here because of how helpful this was for me. I was smoothing an EVA sword blade with my dremel, and I would run it both ways over the blade leaving me with with a complete uneven surface. As soon as I watched this video and tried out this technique, which I was skeptical about, I was surprised to see how smooth the blade had become. Thank you very much for all your videos, and keep up with the wonderful job you guys do!
I actually built a dust collector box from plastic container, shop vac fed from below with a filter screen to block small parts. Works great to catch dust from larger pieces than just a hose. Got the idea from Punished Props.
I bought my first dremel last summer and followed your tutorial to make D.Va's light gun. 😁 I'm a complete novice still but I think this tutorial was super helpful!
your enthusiasm for your craft makes me smile! it's really cool to see your techniques and the things you can do with a dremel tool. 7:44 is super interesting, it really helps visualize what's possible with all those different tips!
I've had a Dremel for a few years now but haven't had an actual excuse to use it yet! I'm so glad to see that you can use a Dremel on the eva foam to make textures and pieces
I purchased my Dremel 395 type 5 back in 2003 and it is still in use today, it's one of the best pieces of kit I have ever bought, I highly recommend the brand...
Thank you sooo much for showing the correct way to use dremel! I was using in the opposite direction of rotation and pressing down too hard. I gave up for half a year because I did not know what was wrong!. I start using it again and feel so much better not hand sanding for hours thanks to you!!
How did you know I was getting frustrated with my dremel work for this costume?! 😁 Haha funny coincidence! Thanks for coming to the rescue with all your skills and positive attitude! ♥️
omg this video dropped just as i was starting to get frustrated with my dremel lol. my costume requires long strips of beveled foam and this video just saved my life.
I'm new to this channel, my mother bought me your books and I never knew you also had a youtube channel. I am going to be completely honest- you sound exactly like how I thought you would in your book, and I just???I love it??? It inspires me and brightens my day hearing it. I already know I'm going to love this chennel.
Thank you very much ! I was afraid try to use my dremel... but I watch a last time you video and it helps me alot feeling safe and doing it the right way :)
I got a Proxxon dremel not too long ago & felt so stupid when I couldn't really sand my foam crafts. Now I'm excited to approach that again & hopefully get better results with all I've learned from you- thank you 😄❤
Thank you for the video. I had a dremel for a long time. I did had some issues with it on the foam getting those rough edges. I tried it again today for a part of my Mandulorian armor piece. Still have the problem. then i did tried the one direction before watching the video. It worked a bit. Then I decided to watch your video on how to work the dremel and see if i was doing it correctly. It is fun to have the tool. I will for sure try other tips on the scrap foams I have. Thank you so much for the Battastic videos.
this is BY FAR my absoultely favourite tutorial you ever made! you made me so happy with this, thank you !!! i knew i was doing something wrong when i tried to build my first armor but now i know how to fix it! thank you for all the tutorials and books, much love
wow this is so helpful!! i got a dremel (sorry, non dremel brand rotary tool) pretty recently and i've been having some trouble approaching stuff like corners and even just edges. thank you so much!!
Wow! This actually timed out well for me. I'm working on an EVA foam project for next month and I got a Dremel not too long ago to work on it. I've never used a Dremel before and this video turned out to be really helpful and informative for me!
I live and breathe by my dremel tool, always trying different tips for whatever effect or groove I'm going for, that being said I've only been practicing for a month or three and its always nice to watch videos like these to understand more of these tools. Soldering tools used to be my go-to but, I feel I get cleaner results with the dremel.
You are so cute! I love your energy. 😊 I am about to start my very first cosplay project with EVA foam, and found your video while looking for info on the best Dremmel. This was so helpful for me. Thank you!! Can’t wait to watch more of your videos!
Yay! I'm so glad I'm not the only one who uses their dremel for the dog's claws. I started to use mine when I saw groomers use them. I thought, I already have a dremel so like I can do the dog's claws myself and save $20+
Ok have to add. Before: Rotary tool 10000 rpm 😕 Going any direction 😥 After video: Rotary tool 35000 rpm max speed 👍😁 Going in direction of spin 👍😁 Now I have 9 days to make first foam cosplay happen 😱
Really useful thank you. I'm making a plastazote crashpad/dashboard top for a classic car restoration project. Perfect technique for forming foam and the Dremel is genuis. :) Great video.
ahh i get it now , for some reason i have been doing the exact opposite of what i should have been doing . both slow and in the wrong direction , thanks kamui
I'm loving the dremel part of foam smithing the most! I mostly use a standard sanding drum for carving and a small grinder disc for cuts. Works really great for creatures and most things
In place of a dremel I use an old electric nail file from school lol it does the same thing basically except you can switch the direction the bit rotates with a switch and it has a foot pedal you can use instead of the on off switch. It's really a great slim option, plus carbide nail bits are amazing!
I'm new to Dremels, but this thing has been great. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxfPgcZ5_Cl0HDUKkMJAKde11YKQZVgMoR The variable speed is awesome and the cordless aspect makes it so easy to work with. I am constantly finding uses for it that make tasks easier. Recently I put in a new deadbolt on one of our doors. I knew I had to enlarge the hold where the deadbolt goes into the door frame. At first I thought I would have to get a big router and figure out how to use it for that, but then I rermembered we have the dremel. I was able to enlarge the hole almost as easy as if I was drawing with a pen. It's also great for grinding our dog's nails done and so many other household tasks.
This is actually really helpful for the costume I’m making, everything on ur channel helps me, even watching ur making cosplay videos are helpful, it shows me how to do things and what to get.
Thanks Svetlana, I've been in a creative rut for about 10 years. I got so disheartened with doing anything creative after having my confidence destroyed while doing my art GSCE that I have barely picked up a pencil. I've watched your videos and bought your books and I have just passed the planning stage of a cosplay I really want to do, onward to foam sanding next! 🥰
I've been using a rottary tool for a while and I usually set it for minimum speed. No wonders, why the process of sanding is always slow for me. Thanks for your video!
I needed this video a week ago! I just got a dremmel and have been trying to make a helmet out of eva foam. It's working for the most part but it would have been better if I have seen this video first.

This!
Safety First, is Safety BEST.
But what if you already have asthma? Guess I'm good to go! (Jk don't make it worse and wear the mask lel)

I also got a dremmel for christmas. My siblings were confused at my joy.

How old are you? 😂
Me too dude💯🔥
Same XD
Seriously, this is the best channel on UA-cam
best corgi and cosplay prop making, but didnt cover too much on resin and other stuff YET
xXSoulDitzXx --- If she doesn't use the techniques, she probably won't show them.
I agree!
That censorship cracked me up. Great video and very helpful as always. You are awesome
There was censorship ? didnt even notice lol.
@@jody024 3:50
Omg bwuahaha funny!!!!
At 35,000 rpms, she has mastered the shaft. I'm surprised they did the censor the 4:00 mark as well.
It won my subscription... hilarious!
I have used a dremel for twenty years, but I still learned useful things from your sanding video. Thank you for the handy tips!
That way to dremmel the corner was mind blowing to me. It's always so hard but now I know how to approach it.
I need to leave a comment here because of how helpful this was for me. That "foam piece filter" at 03:57 is actually a brilliant idea... Several small foam pieces have gone MIA that way for me.
I actually built a dust collector box from plastic container, shop vac fed from below with a filter screen to block small parts. Works great to catch dust from larger pieces than just a hose. Got the idea from Punished Props.
Would an airbrush booth work?
I was literally just having this problem, pop onto youtube for a break, and lo and behold you're a LifeSavER AGaiN
I would love to see Svetlana making something with Adam Savage, that would be awesome!
But who would be more excited and giggling?!
@@hoxton_hummingbird Why not both?
HAHAHA the censor at 3:50 caught me off guard, but in all seriousness, the foam filter is a great idea. Loved the video!
I bought my first dremel last summer and followed your tutorial to make D.Va's light gun. 😁 I'm a complete novice still but I think this tutorial was super helpful!
😭😭😭I'm literally working on my Ruby Rose scythe right now. You are a lifesaver!!!!
Mikayla Freeman this one is in my bucket list for a male ver. With a full retraction system for the scythe. Good luck on your build.
Good luck!!! I really want to cosplay her! I've already done yang and cinder lmao
I‘m actually building Qrow‘s Harbinger right now xD
Good Luck to you!!!
I wanna make my own rwby character
Mikayla Freeman good luck on it
This came at the PERFECT time! I'm using a rotary tool tonight for the first time on the foam of my cosplay sword. THANKS!

I just love watching your videos because your presentation is so cheerful and charming, its like a therapy for me. Thank you.
I've had a Dremel for a few years now but haven't had an actual excuse to use it yet! I'm so glad to see that you can use a Dremel on the eva foam to make textures and pieces
A BIG thank you to you and Benny. I appreciate all the content you provide. :)
thank you sooooo much for this video. I was super overwhelmed about sanding foam until i saw this. Your instructions were very easy to follow.

I'm not nearly as experienced as you are, so I find comfort in knowing we share the same preferred size/grit sanding drum.
You have earned yourself a new patron. Really love your work.

Benni's idea haha
As a learning cosplayer (makeup artist and prop making) you are a great reference/resource to get tips in cosplay craft.

Gonna pump those numbers up
I call her "KimiCon" when I watch her videos :)
Cause she's THE Number one out there!!!
I live in Switzerland and im getting the Dremel 225 wich is only like 32 CHF so I`ll be ready to follow along your awesome tutorials :)
Thank you! I have been trying to learn how to use my dremel. I wish it came with instructions on what all those bits are for, but I bought mine used.
I love the video, they are getting better and better! Thanks for your hard work, I love watching what are you creating
I just got a machine like this (the bulky one cause I'm still suffering from financial problems) This video was really useful, Thank you
This will help with my many cosplays and other crafting ideas thanks alot.
I never used the flexible attachment but seen your results.... I will try definitely.
3:51 😂😂 nice edit lol! Great tutorial

Vacuuming while sanding EVA is an absolute must.
I soooo needed it! Now I know what I was doing wrong, thank you so much!
Wonderful video, I've been dremmeling against the direction the whole time.
Hey this video was made on my birthday
Extremely informative and helpful! Thank you!
I needed this video a week ago! I just got a dremmel and have been trying to make a helmet out of eva foam. It's working for the most part but it would have been better if I have seen this video first.
Sorry! xD

Corners are the worst thing, thanks for this
Great video i am supper happy i got to see you again at yeti con
I came to ur pannels on friday and i love them ♡♡♡
That anthem helmet is awesome great job
So helpful for makin' detailed props. Thanks for the fun tutorial!
