They have a bass player Two guitar players that dose solos, a drummer, and a lead singer. You can have as many people in a band that you want. Their my number three band.
The drummer lost his left arm in a car accident in 1984.The band waited on him to learn how to play drums again "Foolin'" Rock of Ages" "Bringing on the Heartbreak" .They're possibly in their mid to late 20s in this video
This was the song that made me a Def Leppard fan for life. And when Rick, the drummer, lost his arm in a car accident, they never abandoned him to find another drummer. True friendship and family.
The reason they look so young is because they were signed to Mercury Records in 1979. At that time drummer Rick Allen was the youngest member at age 16 and the oldest was lead vocalist Joe Elliott at age 19. The other 3 members were between 17 and 18 years old. The members who were under 18 had to get permission from their parents to sign the record contract. Their first album was released in 1980 titled: "On Through The Night". The song that you're listening to here is from their 3rd album titled: "Pyromania". Every song on that album is a great song.
The 'Pyromania' album was fantastic. This album came out around 83-84 and it skyrocketed them to the top of the charts. They are very young here, but still had 1 or 2 albums before this one that are both very good and still have that raw sound. Def Leppard along with Quiet Riot, Twisted Sister, and Ratt pretty much started Heavy Metal showing up on local radio stations and making the top ten list with a few songs.
Rick Allen the drummer is also an amazing artist. By that I mean he's a very prolific painter with most of his paintings going for thousands of dollars to hundreds of thousands of dollars. Rick Allen also visits veterans and stays with them as friends and helping them with their physical and mental illness challenges.
I grew up listening to Def Leppard..they are my all time favorite Band.. you need to check out Pour Some Sugar on Me.. not long after this video the drummer was in a car.. the band waited for him until he really learned to play the drums again.. they had that much faith in him.. they are still together today.. much much older but still producing some butt-kicking songs .
this was THE one that started it all. Pyromania came out in 1983 and was everywhere ya looked on MTV and all over the airwaves. this bands sounds and releases were pretty much the soundtrack to my coming of age. i was 16 and and a junior in high school upon its release.. i got this tape in my x-mas stocking that year. these boys were 17 and 18 years old, right here. they are from Sheffield, England. love these guys, still today. thanks guys for this little reminder of my yesterday. shoutout from just an old, longhaired, southern, boy in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. You's 2 got some style. keep-a-rockin. take it easy. peace and love. go with God. see you on the next. later.
If it weren't for Def Lep, Duran Duran& a few other break out artists MTV would've been canceled in one or two years. That would mean no 80's MJ, Prince, Madonna, Motley Crue & everything that came after.
Yes, a 5 piece British rock band..their history from start to now is intriguing, the turmoil the individual members went through yet the band never broke..I believe they even began a tour and are out there now. I believe they were all in the 20 - 22 age range in this video, I think this is their second video ever. Please do more in the future
The story as told by Joe Elliott is that he was living in a run down apt in London and there was a hole in the wall. So Joe put a poster of Marilyn Monroe on the wall to cover the hole. That poster was the inspiration for this song. even though Marilyn Monroe had been dead for many years before he wrote the words to this song.
This was before when the Drummer got into an accident, losing one of his arms in the process. But that didn't stop him. He went on to manage to continue playing the drums for the band and is not amongst the greatest drummers into hard Rock history. And I find it very inspiring 🤘
This lineup has been the same since 1982 until the tragic death of guitarist Steve Clark who died in 1991 at 30. Vivian Campbell joined and it hasn’t changed since to this day
Its nice to see that young men such as yourselves know who Marilyn Monroe was. People who react to this have no clue. They always try to guess what's going on, passion killer is about a lady getting murdered, ect. Joe elliott actually had a thing for her, which resulted in a song being written about her. Keep up the great def leppard reactions!
This video was December 1982. Van Halen’s Jump video was December 1983. Joe Elliot did it before David Lee Roth Steve Clark and Phil Collen both play lead guitarist, Bass is Rick Savage, Drummer is Rick Allen, Lead singer is Joe Elliot. They were mostly in their early 20, except for the drummer he is 19, when he joined the band he was 15 years old. Ive seen them 5 times hands dow best concerts In The Round and in Your Face tour was the best, first concert where the stage is round, drummer Platform spins
To answer your questions: - The drummer was a teenager when they made and toured this album, the others were in their early 20s. (The album dropped in early 1983 and was a smash, especially in the US - second only to MJ's Thriller). - The song wasn’t really about Marilyn originally, but because of this video - (music video directors have a mind of their own) - the lore says that it is - and they present it as such in live shows. - They’ve always been a five piece band. It’s the most common lineup in classic rock, besides the classic four piece lineup, and the occasional three piece.
My late father (born 1937) grew up in the 1950s listening to mostly jazz, but he liked a lot of early rock & roll and some classic rock, such as Credence Clearwater Revival. The only time he ever told me to "turn that sh*t down!" was when I was listening to this album.
This band went through alot incl. the loss of Rick Allen's arm....but, musically, they were forever changed with the death of Steve Clark (od) - his guitar play was key to their earlier heavier songs
Well this was my favorite band in high school, wore out the Hysteria album - who didn't back then. Now they are not my favorite band; but I still like them a lot. Love their first couple of albums; they were more rock.
I had to buy this tape multiple times bc I listened to it so much and it got caught in my old cassette player with my cool old headphones. Good times. I remember listening to Pour Some Sugar on Me when I was riding my bike.
They still sound Great!!! Perhaps the best sounding band when I watched them Motley, Poison and Joan Jett. I agree this should make the playlist. I can't recall a song of theirs, that didn't sound fully polished, either live or on CD. I don't like everything they have put out there, but everything they play, is clean. Keep Rocking the Reviews and playlist worthiness.
Me again lol I believe this song is a metaphor for the paparazzi. This is when they were huge, or just becoming worldwide success, and they were constantly hounded by the press and paps
They didn’t want all the success, especially in the US to get to their heads, and turn into another typical rock statistic.. one hit wonders, death by addiction.. unfortunately they all struggled with one form of another, but despite it all and almost losing the drummer, death of Steve they stayed together
Check out the drummer guy, he has one arm. Also a group you need to do Grand Funk Railroad. I’m your captain, inside Lookin out , heartbreaker, mean mistreater, footstompin music, we’re an American band
More great old time music for you two. Creedence Clearwater Revival, Doobie Brothers, Eagles, 3 Dog Night and of course the greatest all time The Beatles
Steve Clarke the lead guitar player with the long blond hair died in 1991 he was 32years old then they eventually got another guitar called Vivian Campbell to make up the five because they were always five
Judas Priest was one of the first to have two lead guitarist in rock/metal. Soon other rock band followed, but I would say a 4 man band is the most common. Def Leppard’s Photograph is still arguably their best song, despite not being their best selling song. It’s a little too heavy for some of the mass population, but a real banger. 🎸🇬🇧
Watching done your videos. Seems like you have hit the 80s staples of metal with Van Halen, Motley Crue, Def Leppard, Tesla. Need to do some other bands that rule like Ratt, Scorpions, Whitesnake, and Dokken!!!! Can't go wrong with any of thise bands.
1:45 I'm sure someone's answered this already: But assuming that the video came out around 1983, and maybe they filmed it the year prior, they must've been about 23 or 24 years old. The drummer was the youngest, so he would've been 19 or 20.
Dave was and is the greatest frontman ever. everyone in the 80's hard rock scene were following him. Of course he borrowed from Jim Dandy Mangrum from Black Oak Arkansas and maybe a few others, but he did it best.
Def Leppard has always been a 5 man band.....And the line up they have in this video is the line up they have today, except for Steve Clark who died in 1992 and was replaced by Vivian Campbell.
I believe it's 1982 the guitar Steve Clark one with the long hair died of alcohol poisoning drink himself to death the drummer Rick Allen was involved in automobile accident lost one arm still plays drums today with the band Yes it's about Marilyn Monroe they have many good songs you've just begun
Oh yes by the way they still perform to this day they're on tours of matter of fact I believe the one guitar that passed away was replaced by Vivian Campbell
Allen lost his arm on NYE 1984..Clark died years later after the end of the Hysteria tour (probably early 90s) before they were to start work on a new album (which would later become Adrenalize)
Def Leppard ruled the world about 20 minutes after this video hit MTV.
When this was made (it's their 3rd album, 1983) drummer Rick Allen was 19, the other guys were 22-23.
Def Leppard are in their early 60's now. Yes there are 5 guys and they rock! We had some rockin' bands in the 70's and 80's. Pure talent!
This was the song that made me a Def Leppard fan for life. And when Rick, the drummer, lost his arm in a car accident, they never abandoned him to find another drummer. True friendship and family.
Me too, the first time I heard photograph, I've been a fan ever since.
Two guitarists, one bass, one drummer, and the lead singer = FIVE!
Def Leppard '77, Van Halen '78.
It's not about Monroe.
DEF LEPPARD IS STILL MAKING MUSIC AND TOURING TODAY!!🥰🥰
Love me some Def Leppard!
My first ever hard rock concert. I was 12, for the Hysteria tour.
The reason they look so young is because they were signed to Mercury Records in 1979. At that time drummer Rick Allen was the youngest member at age 16 and the oldest was lead vocalist Joe Elliott at age 19. The other 3 members were between 17 and 18 years old. One of the best albums ever especially from the 80s
"Is It Playlist Worthy?"
I'd answered that question before you guys even started playing the video
It's Absolutely playlist worthy
Def Leppard members ages are Rick Savage (62), Joe Elliott (63), Rick Allen (59), Phil Collen (65), and Vivian Campbell (60).
They started in 1978, drummer was 15 singer was 19, everyone else somewhere in between. This album was recorded in 82 released Jan of 83
Guys great band! Plus my fave song!!! ✌🏻✌🏻
Bringin’ on the heartbreak, great song 1981
My very first concert in 1983. They opened up for Billy Squire in New Jersey. It's the 80's my boys and they were awesome! Still are.
Same in Portland, they were the opener and by the end of the year they were headlining... Billy was great during his run in the early 80s though!
Couldn't agree more with you!
Twisted sister is the single most underrated band ever
This album was 2nd behind the Thriller album 💯🤘🏽
That's 1983' magical year, magical Age ❤
Rick Allen the drummer is also an amazing artist. By that I mean he's a very prolific painter with most of his paintings going for thousands of dollars to hundreds of thousands of dollars. Great band , great song
I saw them back in the 80's in Kansas on the K-State campus, they were awesome 💜

Love Bites from Def Leppard
This was the song that got me hooked on DL.
Definitely playlist worthy
Such a good song!
This lineup has been the same since 1982 until the tragic death of guitarist Steve Clark who died in 1991 at 30. Vivian Campbell joined and it hasn’t changed since to this day
"Hysteria" and "Animal" are their best ones.
I saw them when they warmed up for the Scorpions back in the day plus they played on a stage that was right in the middle of the arena.
Phil Collen always has the best looking guitars. He joined the band after they had to let Pete Willis go early in the recording of Pyromania.
Its nice to see that young men such as yourselves know who Marilyn Monroe was. People who react to this have no clue. They always try to guess what's going on, passion killer is about a lady getting murdered, ect. Joe elliott actually had a thing for her, which resulted in a song being written about her. THEY'RE OLDER!!! BUT THEY'RE STILL ON TOURS TODAY!!

Im pretty sure dave did those kind of splits before 1984 too, like 1980 or maybe earlier, those are classic dave.
@@cristianconnolly2709 yes he did, I seen them in 1980 and he was showBoating through out the whole concert, he is the best frontman!!!
Wasn't joe the first to do that jump in a music video?
David was the original. Check out Van Halen’s “Unchained” live from Oakland 1981. No one did it better than David.
Check out our Def Leppard Playlist on our channel

The quintessential rock band. They helped fuel 80's greatness.

"Rock of Ages" off Pyromania has been in every playlist I have ever made. It will always rock!
1983-very young. This is when their careers blew up
Steve Clark-23
Rick Allen- 20
Joe Elliott- 24
Phil Collen- 26
Rick Savage- 23 years
The 70's had some 5 piece bands. Aerosmith. Boston. The 80's had def Leppard. Guns and roses kind of using that template
Bringin on the Heartbreak is also an Awesome song.
We did a reaction for Bringin on the Heartbreak!! Check it out!!
Yes boys, it's about marilyn monroe
"On through the night" CRANKED UP ofcourse.
Great song. Great band.
dave was doing that mid 70's
Pyromania album (tape) was played every lunch hour in our school gym when I was in high school …. Whole album burned into my brain …
I believ they were teenagers at the time Pyronia came out

If you’ve ever played GTA V, you must not have driven around listening to Los Santos Rock Radio very much, because this is one of the featured songs.

Rick Allen the drummer still had both arms in this video. This came out January of 1883 and he didn’t get in the car accident tell December 1884.
Phenomenal song!!

Poundcake and runaround by Van Halen
A great song would be "roundabout " by YES
Dave was and is the greatest frontman ever. everyone in the 80's hard rock scene were following him. Of course he borrowed from Jim Dandy Mangrum from Black Oak Arkansas and maybe a few others, but he did it best.
Ahh the good old days
They were 22-23, except the drummer, who was only 18.
You guys need to listen to Rock of Ages,Foolin',Pour Some Sugar on Me,Excitable...

You look like Dominic Thiem, Tennis player👍
Would love to see you guys react to Maneskin! Definitely playlist worthy
Def Leopard. Please react to Bringin on the Heartbreak.
They were from 19-25
Def Leppard has always been a 5 man band.....And the line up they have in this video is the line up they have today, except for Steve Clark who died in 1992 and was replaced by Vivian Campbell.
Foolin'

Early 20's
Yes, singer loved Marilyn ... but just a photograph.
Def leopard di d it first . Van Harlan ‘s 1984. Jump song is when David Lee Roth did the move.
Yes, it's a tribute to Marilyn Monroe.
16 and 17
Joe Elliott may have been the first
The guitar shape is called an explorer Gibson and Epiphone make them but there are makes that kinda ripped off the shape
Also from Y&T I recommend for a reaction "Lipstick & Leather - Live 1985 in San Francisco" ua-cam.com/video/Vb2z81fK6Z4/v-deo.html
Think they were 20-22 Rick Allen the drummer was really young probably 18 maybe. He quite HS to join the band.

Do yourself a favor and get 2 ear buds or headphones. Your not getting stereo sound!😢
I think David Lee Roth was doing the splits in videos before Joel Elliot , I might be wrong, but anyways good jam for the 80's
Yes 5 men
9 arms
The drummer has one arm now
Car crash
