Early 80's was such a glorious time for music. When alot of bands really blasted on to the scene of metal/top 40/rock. Def leppard, Scorpions, Judas Priest, Metallica, Megadeath, and Iron Maiden just to name a few. This song released in 1983, not long before the drummer lost his left arm in a car accident.
'Photograph' is the perfect rock song. It has everything: good riffs, a great chorus and hook, and you can tell these guys are having a blast in this video. They love what they do, and it's hard not to get sucked into that energy. When this song came out, it was on MTV non-stop. 'Pyromania', the album it was released on, became a huge hit in the US,, solidifying Def Leppard as one of the biggest bands, if not the biggest, of the 80's.

"Photograph" is a song performed by English hard rock band Def Leppard and produced by Robert John "Mutt" Lange. It is the lead single from the band's third studio album, Pyromania (1983). Their lead vocalist Joe Elliott has described the song as generally about "something you can't ever get your hands on".[4] When released as a single it reached No. 1 on the Billboard Top Tracks chart, where it stayed for six weeks, and No. 12 on the Pop Singles chart.[5] In 2006 the song was used in promotional adverts for the DVD release of Blades of Glory. In 2009 it was named the 13th greatest hard rock song of all time by VH1.[6] It was also listed as the No. 17 greatest song of the past 25 years by VH1.[7] In 2008, they performed the song with country pop singer Taylor Swift on CMT Crossroads. The performance was nominated for both Wide Open Country Video of the Year and CMT Performance of the Year at the 2009 CMT Music Awards. In 2013, the song was featured in the Grand Theft Auto V video game, on the Los Santos Rock Radio station.

Definitely read the drummers story. After a horrible car accident where he lost his arm. He retrained himself on drums and plays one arm and double bass. He is amazing to watch.
High N Dry is also my favorite DL album, by the time they got around to recording Hysteria Phil had more control over Joe and more influence in the band, which Steve hated, and it's why they lost their hard edge on Hysteria and after Steve died they really lost their hard edge. Phil was more into the glam stuff and wanted the band to focus more on being rich and famous and attracting more women to their shows. It worked for them but after Hysteria their next few albums did not sell as well because they lost their core audience once bands like Guns N Roses came out and brought back the hard edge. Those first three albums were awesome, Hysteria had some good songs on it, but once I heard a couple of tracks off the album after Hysteria I lost interest in them myself. Steve was driving force of that harder edge and once he died this gave Phil and Joe no resistance to making DL into a full blown chick band.
Ron Just Ron - not the only band to go thru that in the 80’s. Between Steve having performance anxiety and drug addiction issues, and their drummer losing an arm- they went thru some stuff as a group. Perhaps they were worried about surviving as a band while waiting for Rick to recover and build a new drum set. They are talented but not everyone can be Led Zeppelin 😎
I saw them on this tour, opening for Billy Squier (“The Stroke”). My friend and I were standing on the second row of seats. Fantastic show. Great memories. Great album. 💜💜💜 And yes. I did have a Union Jack shirt. (I think it may still be around here somewhere.)
You know... anytime I'm sad that I'm getting older (born in '70) - I'm then often reminded of the blessings. One of which is this somewhat derisive reaction to an 80s music video. Being that I was a preteen (and not a toddler) when this came out, I remember it well. I remember early MTV and being that I had young, hip parents - it was on A LOT in my home! I suppose to younger people this seems cheesy, or dated. But to me, this reminds me of the best decade. Anyone born around my time would agree... Def Leppard is not just a great band (which they were and are), but they are a touchstone. We hear the beginning chords and are transported back and cannot help but smile. Just as I am blessed to have watched (and remember vividly) the 1980 U.S. Olympic hockey team beat the USSR and go on to win the gold medal. Not only was that arguably the greatest sport event in history, the country was actually united in our joy! It was glorious and you just had to be there I guess. Same with music. I'm convinced when I am passing on to my great reward one day, and my life flashes before me - Joe and the rest of them will be in that reel! (And Jimmy Craig, et. al.) Haha Again, I know many my age feel the same when I say they are part of the soundtrack of our lives. And for that and soooo many other reasons, I'm just fine with being almost 50. In part because of music like this - so far it's been a hell of a ride 😁
We had a lot of hard rockin' cheese back in the day (the 80's). This was the last great album for the band, don't get me wrong, Hysteria was great and all, but they stopped really hard rockin' sound with this classic 3rd album release! It's still my all time favorite from the band. After Hysteria in 1988 they really started to suck if you ask me.
@@prs149 by today's standards, oh yeah it was. and I have pics to prove it, the hair the clothing, cars like the Chevette, it was all pretty cheesy as I remember it. I'm an '87 grad.
I grew up listening to Def Leppard thanks to my dear sweet brother may he rest in peace. This brings back memories of me & my brother listening to them. One song of theirs I can't keep from crying every time I listen to it is Animal cuz that was my brother's favorite songs from the Hysteria album not too long before he died
My brothers....I love them!! Taught me music from every style and genre. I can't believe this song is over half a century old!!! Pyromania, one of the best albums ever!! Foolin' , Rock of ages
As a child born in the sixties I basically grew up in the 80s being my teenage years and early twenties and this was the best time of my life! Thank you for taking me back.
Def Leppard was the first rock band to play on mtv. Pyromania has been cited as the catalyst for the 1980s pop-metal movement. If it wasn’t for Def Leppard bands like whitesnake, ratt, poison, etc wouldn’t have been as big as they were. They paved the way for them. And the fact that they are still together since they started (minus Pete Willis and Steve Clark❤️) is so rare. Love Def Leppard❤️❤️
This is 1983...this was played on the rock radio station I used to listen to (was still in high school) about once an hour. You couldn't get away from it.
A huge childhood favourite of mine! (Im an 80s kid) Def Leppard knows how to rock it out,and make it sound groovy as h*ll doing so! This was early early 80s,around 82-83. I seem to remember that this was prior to drummer Rick Allens tragic accident, where he lost his arm. But he battled through, came back as theyr 1 armed kick ass drummer, this band went through ALOT,but they were as close as if they were family. Breaking up was never even an option! Theese guys has hits after hits,i just love everything they released! Love Bites is a personal favourite (its abit slower then Photograph) Animal is another one,and here you can see Rick Allen back in the band, with double foot pedals, wich he explained was one of the main motivators for him,as he trained up his feet to compensate for the lack of 1 arm, while being able to do certain parts with his other arm. Rick is a true inspiration, motivator, legendary drummer! The band members didnt give up on him either, but helped him through it as best they could. I simply admired everything they stood for and still stands for till this day, what they have accomplished against all odds, and for being amazing artists!
This was a very important song for rock and pop.. one of the first and probably most notable of songs which brought a harder rock band to the top 40 charts
I love the smiles when the song moves you. I would love to see a reaction to Def Leppard Bringin on the Heartbreak. This is the song that put Def Leppard on the map.
Def Leppard is actually is embarking on probably the biggest tour for this year's Spring/Summer. They are touring with Motley Crue and Poison. It is a HUGE 80's hard rock tour. It has been selling huge numbers of tickets. As of Feb 3rd, it had already sold over 1 million tickets.
There was a time when this song by Def Leppard got played on radio I happen to my poster of Cindy Crawford. So ever time I hear this song I always think of Cindy Crawford my favorite high class model.
Oh and the drummer had 2 arms. When they made hysteria he lost his arm in a car crash. He is still drumming for them today. 1 arm and all
GIO Gio yes he is!! And is amazing!!!
ffs his arm has been gone so long I forgot he played traditional grip (underhand left) in this video. (albeit I was like 6.)
Rick uses a series of foot pedals. Basically his left foot now plays what his left hand use to play.
DescendantofFools yes he does. Special made for him if I’m correct ?
I was thinking the same thing. Kind of weird now. When I saw them a couple of years ago, you just kind of expect the one armed drummer.
My mom (who turns 64 this year) heard me watching your reaction, and told me to crank it up.

This is a perfect pop song. Def Lep were masters of writing hard rock with absurdly infectious hooks.

Oh hell, if it's raw you want, then check out "Wasted" from On Through the Night
For some more 80's goodness: Poison -- Talk Dirty to Me.
Poison wouldn't be bad to get into.
Those 1st 3 videos all linked together.
19 September 1992. San Diego California. Def Leppard’s Adrenalize tour. Rock...rock till I dropped!

Do Duran Duran "A View To A Kill"
HUGE band. Can't believe you have only done one song from them man! Seriously. You cannot talk about 80s nightlife without them!
I saw them on this tour, opening for Billy Squier (“The Stroke”). My friend and I were standing on the second row of seats. Fantastic show. Great memories. Great album. 💜💜💜
And yes. I did have a Union Jack shirt. (I think it may still be around here somewhere.)
React to Motley Crue's -Looks That Kill video 🤘🤘
React to Pour Some Sugar on Me, by Def Leoppard!
1983….. time flies! I was 16 when this song got played over and over on the only rock station in town then ❤️❤️ such great times!!!
Welcome to MTV. Regardless of the visuals, or the lyrics, this song is incredibly good.

Love the 80s... Closet memories and private smiles... 83... Peace!!!
You know... anytime I'm sad that I'm getting older (born in '70) - I'm then often reminded of the blessings.
(And Jimmy Craig, et. al.) Haha
Again, I know many my age feel the same when I say they are part of the soundtrack of our lives. And for that and soooo many other reasons, I'm just fine with being almost 50. In part because of music like this - so far it's been a hell of a ride 😁
First, so I'll be the guy who tells him to react to the Nickelback song.
It wasn't cheesy back then
@@prs149 by today's standards, oh yeah it was. and I have pics to prove it, the hair the clothing, cars like the Chevette, it was all pretty cheesy as I remember it.
I was 13 when this song came out. Drummer had both his arms and Steve passed away.....but they are still killing it
Def Leppard was the first rock band to play on mtv.
I was 14 when this song came out and I could not get enough of Def Leppard.:)
I love the smiles when the song moves you. I would love to see a reaction to Def Leppard Bringin on the Heartbreak. This is the song that put Def Leppard on the map.
This was 1983. This song and album is what launched Def Leppard into the upper stratosphere of rock music.
I've loved this song my whole life and for ever! Def Leppard rock on! 😍
The big 80’s brother. The most prolific decade of great music!
For about 40 years (60's thru 2000 or so), pop/rock music was INCREDIBLE! Then it all went largely downhill after the turn of the century.
First time I heard this song was prom night 1983. Life changer. It wasnt cheesy back then. It was epic.
AMEN! LONG LIVE THE 80s
