Great customer, I always like the conversations with the older folks. They are the most appreciative for what you do. We need to take care of the elderly, that will be us someday.

I've learned so much from you Steve. Every time I see you working on these boilers u learn more and more. I maintain and repair my own boiler since watching you. And I'm not a hack like most homeowner weekend repair guys. Lol
Nick Chubb switched our church from 120/240v open why delta to 120/208v 3 phase and Bradley Chubb says the iron fireman burner motor will run on either voltage
there should be a 15 second delay to establish a good draft with a delayed oil solenoid and if it lights off right away then the primary control is bad because that is where the timer is being set from and what is controlling the burner circuit
I used to have a house in Asheboro North Carolina that had a furnace with one of those things. I hated it because every time they brought Me oil, it gave trouble. Unfortunately My tank was full of rust. I don't live there now, so that house is somebody else's problem now.
I see...the oil pumped-in probably stirred-up a lot of sludge from the bottom and the furnace sucked it in. When I fill my tank, I shut the furnace down and give the tank a few hours for the crap to settle to the bottom. Sometimes, the oil company does not flush-out their truck tank and they add sludge!
This Portuguese cat could have his own youtube channel, seems like a really good guy. Good job Steve as usual.... "Of course I can fix it, I ain't gonna let ya stinkin" :)
I understand the premise. You realize that everything old is new again. How many old systems had interrupted ignition and oil valve. I dunno. It’s not a contest. lol
The smart people are having their boilers and furnaces looked at now. The not so smart ones always seem to call on the first freezing day of the season. And for me, it’s always the same 10-12 people!
I do not miss working on oil. One was REALLY nasty. It had "puffed back" and sooted up house. I went up there, tore down the burner, checked oil supply, spark transformer, changed nozzle and fired it back up Worked OK. Decided to check pump pressure. Did so, reconnected everything, fired it back up. Had great draft, exchanger seemed clean, fire looked great. House remodel resulted in wall quite close to front, you had to lean on wall and lean over to look into inspection door. I propped it up with wrench and had my mirror out, It had been firing maybe a minute just great when it puffed back again. WHAM I had my glasses on, otherwise...............................Owner had been thinking of converting to high efficiency gas (L/P for them there) and that was IT. Never found the cause. I asked the crew to dump the old one at the shop so I could diagnose it further, but they took it to scrap. Crew said they found nothing in chimney. This was in the late 80's
Bradley Chubb replaced the church oil burner unit with fusion and is now on 460v 3phase, he closed the breaker and nick chubb noticed a big blue white fireball! Saquan Barkley found it and stomped it out thank god!
An electronic transformer can’t be tested by jumping the arc across the electrodes. It shorts it out. However, there are only so many cycles those transformers run before they Peter out and don’t work anymore. Just like you Steve, I hate them as well. Good work
@@lordgilby He shouldn’t have. That can be done on a copper core transformer. But there is a chance that the electronic transformers can short out. I’m not fond of them either
My parents built their house 67 years ago, My brother now owns it , the furnace has a beckett system on the hot water baseboard, its all original system, just new nozzles every few years. Its not very practical system. He will have to decide.
Thanks, man! I wondered what it was. I just paid $600 for a service call and one of those. I am glad I did not try to test it. How DO you test one? (electronic transformer)
@@craigharding475 They make a tester. Or you can use a multimeter. Depending on how old one is determines if I test or just replace. Generally if you have oil at the drawer assembly, the nozzle is good, and the motor runs, it’s time for the transformer to be replaced.
After 50 years of working on oil-fired heating systems in Alaska you can't possibly properly tune an oil burner without an analyzer you need to know your flue-gas temperature the O2 and your efficiency otherwise you're not treating your customer properly and you're going to have issues with the burner
Great customer, I always like the conversations with the older folks. They are the most appreciative for what you do. We need to take care of the elderly, that will be us someday.
If we could exhibit some humility and grace as our seniors often do..we would improve as a species..alas, the yungins never listen
Maybe..

Steve's a Great Guy i learned a'lot from watching his Videos,,
Gotta love the old oil units, everything is so simple.
Have no fear Steve is here!
Thanks so much. I watch you video I'm working out for me. Great job, Steve keeps the good work 👏
Fuel, air & spark= combustion 👍
Don't fear, Steve is here.
Brake cleaner is amazing when cleaning these burner assemblies
Steve Lav workin' on a Beckett in August, y'all. Payin' the bills.
I would get mine worked-on too, but we have mid-nineties heat wave, and I expect that my tech is still busy with AC units.
Nick Chubb switched our church from 120/240v open why delta to 120/208v 3 phase and Bradley Chubb says the iron fireman burner motor will run on either voltage
Dak prescott serviced it and soot flew everwhere
Great Job ! Im a beginner in the field, Is that correct that having a delay valve and light up right away …. I guess the burner has a R8184 A
there should be a 15 second delay to establish a good draft with a delayed oil solenoid and if it lights off right away then the primary control is bad because that is where the timer is being set from and what is controlling the burner circuit
Great info, video. One question, how and when to you adjust the air intake on left side - next to oil valves....same type burner, but a Gramsby stove

@RedLiver I couldn't understand 80% of what that guy was saying. Lol. Not bad english though for no school

Second job I saw the electrodes
cleaned. Something new to me:
No spark. Defective transformer.
Great job.
There are a few other things that will give you No spark, you have to diagnose before you start changing things.
Steve said he was not a fan of electronic transformers. Do you have any idea why?

Nick Chubb replaced an ignition transformer to our church oil burner nuclear fusion accelerator, runs on 208v 3 phase!
Some people just dont like to clean their furnace.
I was waiting to hear the phrase,"Good enough for this Neighbourhood anyway."
love your videos steve.
Thank you man you helpful and funny I need you to fix my burner I am in north New Jersey
Nick Chubb found control fuses blown in a 440v powered iron fireman and got it to ignite by nuclear fusion!
Steve: "Spock"

I have a beckett like that on my furnace..piece of shit, I'd love to put a 9mm in it
