I've been to eastern Ukraine, I know many people who live there today; the border between Ukraine and Russia (Russian Federation) is like the border between Massachusetts and Rhode Island - you can't tell which country you're in without checking a map, everyone in that area speaks Russian - the Ukrainian citizens there are proud to be Ukrainian (yes they speak the Russian language) the Ukrainians have a real strong sense of pride in their country and are very happy to share it with you. They don't want to be part of Russia, they want to be their own country.
A bot maybe above.... but there are many SLAVIC peoples who settled in Rhode Island New Jersey and Western Pennsylvania around the turn of the LAST century. And there was NO DISTINCTION with a border line so your statement of something like a state border is correct.
@@mikefromuniontown3809 --- Yup, I don't think I'm a Bot, or I'm a Bot who can sometimes fix a boiler. There are areas around Pittsburg like that and areas around Scranton too. My great grandparents came here in the late 1800s from Lithuania and Poland. Both countries had been overrun by the Russian Army, there was no freedom or opportunity there anymore, the people there just struggled to survive and send raw materials like coal and iron ore to Russia, there was absolutely no chance for improving your life in either country, the only opportunities were for those born in Russia. Ukraine is a poor country that's very good at farming, today Russia buys a huge amount of wheat, oats, etc. from Ukraine, they have to pay real money, After Russia invades all of the farmland will magically become Russian, they won't have to pay world market prices anymore. Also a generalization, traditionally Russians feel superior to anyone born in Ukraine (there's little or no difference in real life). Very often Russians treat Ukrainians like inferior people, think of it as black people in the south in the 1960s, good enough to clean your house but you'd never tell your family you were dating one. This invasion thing is a hundreds of years old Russian tradition, if you want something just take it for your own.
I’ve had many of those older Honeywell primary controls go bad. They trip randomly, sometimes right off the bat on a call, or they randomly just drop out. The Carlin ignition transformers are junk, never had an issue with the Beckett transformers. If the burners are properly maintained the inlet air shutoff will last a long time. They need to be cleaned and lubed. Probably 90% of burner techs don’t remove the motors and clean the blower wheel etc. They just keep opening this air band or shutter as it gets more clogged with crud. The new Residio primary controls are cheap and have interrupted ignition so the trans doesn’t spark the whole time. Also gives you cad cell reading right on the display. 👍 45 second trip primaries ought to come with a bag of speedy dry. 😆
You haven't been checking the flame in the last couple videos. That filter looked like it had the brown residue from Bio-fuel. Could be running lean.. I'm all for the way you do burner services, you do whats need. Your not looking to waste time checking things that dont need attention. Your right about how electronic transformers are junk, and motors/controls can act up. Just don't overlook the easy fix of a richer fire. Keep it up Steve!
I agree that ignitor shouldn't be running all the time, there is a Sid Harvy replacement relay on the burner I wonder if it had an interrupted to start with. I lay by oil line coils flat so air doesn't get trapped in the top of the loop.
Steve, I really valued your comments about that electronic transformer. Thanks. But I wonder why you don`t like those rubber insulator pads that fit beneath them?
Due to the gunk in the bottom of the tank, is why I have overhead lines and a return. Mine self primes if run out of fuel and the intake tube I have 8"-12" off the bottom of the tank.
The guys that pedal “Biofuel” in this area it looks cloudy like what you are seeing.🤷♂️. That protector relay is a “Sid Harvey” reman, I would be skeptical of it🤔
I thought the new powerlight were rated for continuous duty......Application Information: • This igniter is intended for use with 120VAC burner systems. • It is rated for continuous duty and can be used with intermittent or interrupted ignition primary controls. • The Beckett oil igniter is designed to mount in the same manner as ignition transformers and igniters. • This igniter can be adapted to multiple base plates to accommodate Beckett residential and commercial burners. It will also fit on many other vendors’ base plates. For other vendor base plates, verify that the igniter fit is free of air leakage between the base plate and the igniter
Just because the manufacturer says it's rated for continuous duty doesn't mean squat. It just means the actuaries told them it'll last past the year warranty when used in a continuous duty application!
If you read about them, the electronic continuous duty ignitors are better in every way. It's just stubbornness to keep using the old style. I just replaced one that was 16 years old. Replaced it only because of a small crack in the ceramic post.
Hey Steve! Thanks for another great video. Your client is interested in gas. Do you think that the gas burner retrofit from Beckett would be a good idea? Client might not need to change boiler. I do agree that if you have to change out entire boiler it would not be a good idea to change.
Nice guy, your customer. He was right about the Russian troops being "soft as puppies", so far at least, but I'm sure he was surprised when they invaded. Interesting to look at this 3 weeks later. Really enjoy watching your videos, Steven.
I wonder what Steve would say after telling the guy this "queer thing" and the guy introduced his husband to Steve..."I would like you to meet my husband."
These days smart home can monitor a boiler status while away from home via the internet. Probably want one of the auto water shutoff valves in case a pipe burst. Probably a good investment for those who want to roll the dice on vacation and hope for the best.
Love the light light Steve ... hands off and it lights everything up well ... the younger folks may not appreciate it, but it makes the close work more enjoyable ... I also have a few of the LED battery lanterns ... lifesavers in tight places
Beckett eliminated them years ago. They were a feature that started in the late 80’s, and carried a bit into the 90’s. They would jam up, and soot the boiler from lack of proper air. Pretty sure Beckett put out something saying to remove them at some point.

My grandparents have propane heat, but it piggy backs a heat pump, so it not the main source of heat. And it is more volatile then natural gas, since it can pool and linger at low level if there a leak. This is part of the reason why it hardly used in grid deliver service anymore.
I will probably never work on an oil fired boiler for the rest of my life, but darn if I don’t love watching Steve work his magic with these beasts.
