Thank y’all for stopping by! We’ve had a lot of requests for a cobbler video. In this video we’re sharing with y’all our basic dump cobbler recipe. We’re doing cherry cobbler today but you’re welcome to use any type of fruit you’d like. Get creative! We hope y’all enjoy and remember to keep the fire hot!
Enjoy the video and leave questions or comments below.
Cherry Cobbler Recipe
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 cups sugar
1 teaspoon salt
4 teaspoons baking powder
2 cups milk
1 teaspoon vanilla ( with cherry add a teaspoon of almond extract too)
1 teaspoon cinnamon (optional- recommended for peach cobbler)
1 stick melted butter
2 cups fruit (or more to taste plus the juice, we like to add about 1/3 to ½ cup of juice or more to taste)
1. Mix together the flour, sugar, salt baking powder, milk and vanilla together.
2. Pour the butter in a greased 12-inch deep Dutch oven or a 11x13-inch casserole dish.
3. Pour the batter in the Dutch oven. Evenly top with the fruit and juice.
4. If baking in the house- bake at 350 degrees for about 40 minutes or until it’s about ¾ baked through like a cake, but still has a soft center.
Tip: If you like more of a gooey cobbler add more juice and don't cook the cobbler as long.

For the lazy camp baker, Bisquick makes a perfectly passable crust. Making fresh black cherry cobbler was a tradition on family camping trips. We used a well greased 14-inch Dutch oven with two pounds of pitted cherries, brown sugar, vanilla, with Bisquick made according to box directions. Cobbler can be made with blackberries, raspberries, strawberries, boysenberries, peaches, nectarines, apricots, pears, or apples but cinnamon and nutmeg should be added if pears and apples are used and the fruit should be cooked until medium soft. We a lot w as ys used fresh fruit or preserves we made from fruit we picked. There was never any leftover cobbler.
Sounds good Roger
Real easy to make yer own also feller
But whatever keeps ya dancin down the ol cobbler trail will do it it will
cherry and/or blackberry cobbler over a campfire while camping....nothing beats it!
The two of you are the very definition of a happy marriage. God bless you both and thank you for showing what a pure and true relationship looks like!
P.S. Yes, and you can both cook too!

Thanks Janet and God bless you
I'm an okie just like you and my grandmother used to make all these same recipes. Thank you for keeping this type of cooking alive. In a way it makes me feel like she's still around by watching these videos.
My friend made this at a big campout we had. My job was to ride around the camp in an old limo & say over the bullhorn, "Cobbler's DONE!!" It was great :)
I made this for dessert tonight to accompany some chili. Another great and easy to make dish. As the video says, it could be made with other soft fruit mixtures. If you cook it longer the way Shannon likes, this is essentially a butter cake. One could also top it after baking with a fresh strawberry puree, or even use it as the base for a sticky toffee pudding sauce. Thanks Shannon!
Thanks Jeff I will tell her you enjoyed
I like the apple cobbler made with Red Hots candy.🔥🔥🔥
Fine drinking it is
I have been playing with the ovens for quite a few years now. Don't even come close to your experience, but I have done a few cobblers. But I learned all kinds of things about cobblers in this video. Love your style, your knowledge that you so freely pass along, and especially your partner! We all need a good partner to keep us from going too far astray! Thanks for all you (2) do!
Our pleasure
Never been a fan of "batter" style cobbles. I've been making mine with the Boy Scouts for 22 years now. I just use a yellow or white cake mix sprinkled directly on the fruit. Butter, cinnamon, brown sugar, canned peaches, that's it. Never had a complaint.
Thanks to you'all for all the good cooking tips.
Tex
Clobbers are my husband and I favorite things to eat....
cherry and blackberry are my very favorite and peach is his...
This looks sooo good y'all!!!
Girl you impress me!!
I've only used the inside oven for my baking.... I so wanna do this!!
YOU ROCK SISTA!!
My parents had a horse barn rental in a state park here in Tn. and we'd do over night or wkend rides and I've ate like this but never have myself done anything in the coals..
We all had our jobs, It was family run and some of the best memories ever!!
Ooooh yummy,it's freezing cold and windy in England and I would kill for this delicious hot desert .
Great looking cherry cobbler. I can picture that being made out in the prairie for those tired hungry cowboys. Forgot the cowboy coffee will be waiting too. 🤠☕
Son, you sure got you a keeper there. That cobbler I could almost taste.
Shan is great, and beautiful. I'm glad Kent has her. He's about my age, 63. One or two videos there are photos of him without a shirt; he could throw you through the wall with one hand
I ordered a bunch of cooking books 2day. I'm a retired teamster and I'm so thankful for U using "Best Choice" fruit in your colber, cause it supports my pension. your stuff is great. TYM

Shannon, thanks for sharing this. You've inspired me to get out my grandmother's cast iron cookware and go to cookin'!
Thanks guys. Made it tonight using blackberries...drizzled a little nice wildflower honey in with the berries to offset the tartness and it came out pretty darn good!
Thank you Mike for watching and god you enjoyed
Wow I'm proud of Shan she did good and she had another trivet to put her lid on instead of the ground. I hope I spelled her name right,, no disrespect ment at all. God bless and I really want a Dutch oven and I have got to try cooking like that some.
Y'all look soooo happy together, you both are good people and deserve each other.

As a new subscriber it's Cool to see Shannon doing the cooking.
I'll have to try that batter. Every year at the gold camp I make several cobblers in my Dutch oven. I use a ten inch, deep oven and buy a yellow cake mix and 16 ounces of Sprite or Seven Up for the batter. Fruit and juice in the bottom and pour the batter over the fruit. Slice up a stick of butter for the top and sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon. I've made this with blackberries, peaches or apples. The apple seems to be everyone's favorite. Great videos.
Thanks James for watching
All cobblers are delicious. Now I gotta go make some!
Whiskey and cobbler could be a good combo...
Thanks for watching

"Cause you will boil a lot of that flavor away."
Very good to know. I was going to say it was nice to see Shan' until she poked the cobbler.🤗 Seiously though Kent,we are here for you but her showing up now and then is great. A cobbler is on my list of things to do.
Good eating it is
Good to see Mrs Rollins in front of the camera.
I love the look of that cobbler and have to get me a dutch oven and cook some myself. I only have our grandmother's old cast iron skillet which we still use, and want a dutch oven since seeing the videos on the PBS Arkansas program about cooking outside. Thanks for sharing this recipe and showing us what the cobbler looks like.
Thank you Sidney for watching
That looks really good, wish I was there.
Y'all remind me when my late wife was still here, we'd would always teem work cooking especially on the weekend. God bless you and Shannon and keep the team work going 🙏
I've got to try this. I've only used the pie filling and then in a separate bowl mix up 12oz sprite with a white cake mix. okay when camping but this seems way better

DO cobblers are the bomb. peach is my favorite and like Mr Kent, I like them on the moist side and not to dry. regardless I guarantee I never have leftovers with a crowd. Thank you both! great video!
Thanks Betty so much
I now ready to eat some great cobbler, maybe a cherry pie for Xmas. I thank you for your tips on how to make Cobbler with homemade crust. You guys are lucky that you can just place your dutch oven out on the grass and put coals around it. Here in Colorado, if I did that I would have a forest fire in seconds. Stay safe, keep cooking and God Bless you two!
love it. I use brown sugar with my Peach and Mandarin cobbler but we were out once and forgot it. so we had some of that orange Tang and used it instead. Still today that was one of my boys favorite cobbler. Thanks again for all the great Cowboy Cooking Logic.
