I made your cobbler and Cathy's chicken on my first DO run! Both were awesome! Thank you for the videos!!
I am glad to hear that you enjoyed the Dutch oven cobbler & chicken! Thank you for your cool comment!
@@OutdoorswithTrav you're welcome!! I was a little leery of the pineapple but dang it made it pop!! Lol
This is the recipe I was looking for we used a similar one when I was a Boy Scout 30 years ago
Our Boy scout troop absolutely loved this. Next going to serve to Cubs Scouts
Thank you for making this video! When I was a kid in Boy Scouts my Scoutmaster always used to make this when we'd go camping and I could never remember the recipe since it was so long ago!
Came across this video. I was gifted a 1920's Wagner Ware DO. I am from Georgia..will make my first DO recipe from YOU.. Thank you. Peachy B.
Peachy B,
Thank you for your great comment! Congratulations on the 1920s Wagner Dutch oven - what a gift!
Just remember to go light on the tapioca pudding mix.
Maybe just a couple of tablespoons so as not to overdo it and have it get all thick & sticky.
Thank you! Trav
Made this at home!!! Loved it!!! My first cobbler since I was a kid!!!
Can confirm, this was freaking delicious!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I did exactly how you made it and I must say it’s absolutely delicious, thanks for sharing 👍
Great video and thanks for the recipe! Made this yesterday... It's the best peach cobbler I've made to date! .. My wife also gagged when i told her the recipe but she loved it. Followed your recipe to the letter. I had diced pineapple but I put it in a food processor to create crushed which I believe is better since cubed texture may not soften sufficiently. I didn't find tapioca pudding but tapioca flour instead... It worked perfectly.
Aparrently, I could haved used cornstarch instead of tapioca flour but reduce the amount to 1 oz instead of 2 as otherwise they are interchangeable when used with a cooked recipe . However, tapioca flour can also be used to thicken even if there's not much cooking involved.. See what you did! Thanks to you, I learned this as a result of researching tapioca and will use this knowledge in other recipes calling for a thickener. Your video is a win-win all the way around!.
Hello Nclght,
I enjoyed your comment - thank you for the excellent feedback! That’s smart to put the pineapple chunks in a blender- good thinking! I too have had difficulty in finding instant tapioca pudding mix. I have mistakenly put in too much of the “cook & serve” tapioca pudding mix and the cobbler turned into a sticky mess. I’ve never heard of tapioca flour & have not tried cornstarch, good to know that either one of those is a viable option! Thanks again for taking the time to comment! Trav
made the cobbler this past weekend (mothers Day)...it was great! thanks
I made peach cobbler using your recipe! Turned out amazing! Thank you for posting!
Glad you liked it!!
Oh my goodness, this looks so delicious. Well done 👌😊
I like the peach/pineapple combo idea, adding tapioca pudding sounds good too. Gonna have to give it a try. 👍
It's delicious. You'll love it!
Made this today .... It was great ! Thanks !
Great to hear!
Still very cool. Gonna try this one soon
Made a version today using blackberries. It was great.
Wish I was there, Trav!
Great video refresher. I’ve not made it for many years.
Sounds like you are due for some peach cobbler!
Made this tonight and added a little bit of cinnamon to the mix. We've always done a more basic recipe of this with just peaches, yellow cake mix and butter on top. This will be our new go to from now on!👍Keep up the good work on your videos man!👍
Awesome! Glad you liked it.
thank you sir
Made this at home and it was DIVINE!
Em, thank you for the excellent comment & positive report on your Dutch oven cobbler 👍Glad that it turned out well!
Nicely done
If Bob Ross were an outdoorsman instead of a painter, this would be him
I've not tried the tapioca.... I'll do it this weekend.
Hi what’s the temp for the conventional oven method....and btw I have a 6 quart Dutch oven
Pattypink, cool a 6-quart Dutch oven is an excellent all purpose size & I’d recommend cooking at a temperature of 350° for almost everything. One exception is bread which I like to bake at 400° to 425° and like to get the oven hot first - then set the dough down inside before placing back in the heat source.
Looks good. This will be my first dutch oven dessert attempt. Where did you get the bases that you had your coals on ?
Hello Charlie,
For many years I cooked in Dutch ovens directly on the ground & still often do when using one oven or when stacking them on hard soil.
However, out of necessity - from cooking often in the sand of dry river bottoms - I realized that the bottom oven cooks best when it’s legs are not pressed down into the sand thus smothering the coals.
So I decided to build a couple of metal plates to use as a base when stacking Dutch ovens.
A friend helped me weld those up & we built them ourselves. We drilled holes around the edges to enhance airflow.
I feel like the steel bases are a personal outdoor cooking success story. Thank you for the great question! Trav
P.S. Remember to go light on the “cook & serve” tapioca pudding mix. Use only about a third of the box 👍
@@OutdoorswithTrav Yes those bases look like a good idea. I can go to my welder. Shipping might be high but you don't happen to sell them do you ?
No, I just have mine. But I would love to see a picture of yours when they are done.
Is that a 10" deep oven that you used for that recipe?
For this we used a 12 inch standard 6 quart, but it doesn't have to be exactly that. It will work the same in a deep.
I made Dave’s potatoes cathys chicken and this cobbler and it was fantastic. It put me in a bit of a food coma
Thanks for the positive feedback, Rylan! I’m glad that the food turned out well and that you enjoyed it. I agree that it can put you into a bit of a food coma, ha ha!
Trav is there any way you can make Dutch oven steak and eggs it’s my favorite meal
@@rylanvallejos2895 Yes, Rylan - you can make steak & eggs or anything else in a Dutch oven that you can normally cook in a conventional oven or even on the stove top. If I were to make Dutch oven steak and eggs I’d most likely use the lid of my Dutch oven turned upside down & placed on the coals. You cook on the shallow concavity of the lid.
Enjoy!
@@OutdoorswithTrav thanks
How long does it usually take to cook?
Check it at 45 minutes but expect the cobbler to cook for an hour.
Did you use light brown sugar or dark brown sugar?
Whichever you prefer
@@OutdoorswithTrav ok thanks
Will you explain the keys on you Dutch ovens please?
Great question! And you are in luck because we made a video about just that. ua-cam.com/video/xS89KzPaNmQ/v-deo.html
I was cornfused 🌽when I saw your question till I saw the key 🔑
I tried swatting that darn fly away accidently took a screenshot
Haha! Thanks for trying to swat it away.
What’s the secret to bringing ice cream camping?
Camp in the winter =)
Briquettes or as I call them Michael Blackson
No time or temp suggestion. Might be helpful..
Mike, thank you for the comment. Rule of thumb is 12 briquettes top and bottom which equates to 350°
Cook time may vary according to outdoor temp, wind speed, precipitation and so forth. I lift the lid at 45 minutes and then, if needed, at an hour watching for the cake portion to be browned on top.
What’s the worst recipe?
We are saving that for a future episode. =)
Pineapple, no thank you
Canned fruit, ugh. So low class.
Haha. Feel free to substitute whatever you want.
This is a traditional recipe for camping similar to what was done by old chuckwagon cooks in our American west... out of necessity, they used canned peaches....btw this is for camping not wussified glamping... just sayin 🙂
There’s lots of really good canned fruit out there and most of them assist in making an excellent cobbler.
Making this for the fam this weekend camping in Michigan!
Wish ya had given a ballpark time of how long to cook…hour, hour n a half possibly😬
It looks amazing!🏕
Hello TT!
Plan on 45 minutes to an hour for some perfectly delicious peach and pineapple Dutch oven cobbler! Enjoy!
