I have the Gas One dual fuel portable stove. Looks like the middle stove. Uses either butane or propane. Great small stove.
That's what I went with too. Seemed like a no brainer. Plus it will simmer real low for finite cooking tasks 🍳!
I have this one too and bought an adapter to use it with a bulk propane tank. Works great!

I'll take the jet boil for morning coffee, the propane for everything else.
They make a jet boil java/ french press version now too :)
I've used my Jet Boil in a vehicle literally hundreds of times, just be sure you have the supports on the fuel can. Also the bigger fuel cans are steadier.
JetBoil looks like it can also do underwater welding!

The Jetboil seems like a product for extreme backpackers/survivalists who just need to boil water and nothing else, and have separate MRE-style meal kits or survival food. The propane stove definitely seems the way to go for car camping/all purpose cooking when size and weight is not an issue. And the Butane stove seems kind of in the middle of the road for people who only need to cook occasionally when on an adventure.
When you take a wok ring and place it on your propane kooker it will condense the heat source creating faster kook times and other benefits you have mentioned. 😳😊😎 or create a windscreen from aluminum foil. 😊😎

I'm with you. Pretty soon I'm going to just get the old fashion Coleman little grills I think I still remember how to use those. But the coals and even with lighter fluid takes forever.

A jetboil is a great little stove but It makes me nervous with the possibility of tipping. You can use the jetboil under 32° however you just have to ensure the gas can does not freeze-- also your elevation will affect the boil time on your stoves.

I like the Coleman Fold N Go Propane Stove, 2-Burner better. Still uses Propane, but for a few dollars more, you get a 2-burner 20,000 BTU total output stove (Your 1-burner only produces 7.500) that folds nice and compact.
I use butane. Yes I can heat with it, though I don't. I buy my fuel by the case at restaurant supply stores. I've never run out of fuel because of this; and it's much cheaper there.
How do you find restaurant supply stores? You can't use butane for warmth right?

I did a little research on the Jet Boil web site and to be able to cook hamburgers in the winter for 4 people you're going to spend about $250 just for the equipment. Personally I'm sticking with my 50 plus year old Coleman green fold up stove that has been converted to propane. Easy, cheap and free to me as my parents bought it. Thanks for all you do Bob and keep the good stuff coming.

I’ve been using the 1 burner propane for a couple of years and love it! Thanks for the great video, Bob!
I had a smallish Coleman grill that we could backpack with but it would never get hot enough to brown burgers or even sear hotdogs. Well I used my little drill set and found the small bit that fit the burner holes. Then I chose the next larger one and drilled out every other burner hole to that larger bit size. You don't want to increase the propane let out so much that you loose the BLUE FLAME. I think I was ok so I drilled out another half dozen holes in the burner. Magic presto it burns burgers and hotdogs like nothing. Even have to keep the dial set a bit lower. The propane oxygen mix is handled by that little opening back in the valve line. Sometimes they are adjustable so you can tweak the blue flame just right.
This worked so good I bumped up the burners on my barbecue also. So now I can get it to 500F plus. Need that for searing steak and cooking medium rare.

I agree, I own a Jetboil with their Pot Stand Adapter so you can use the Stove part with other pots. That works good, truly but in a van, No thank you. I also have an adapter to refill the Jetboil canister from a standard Coleman Green Propane bottle, or other canisters to ensure I don't end up with tons of empty canisters. I like your coleman burner, but the butane stove is great. I have the GasOne version which can do butane and the green bottles of propane like you're using and you could use your heater on top of that one. Much more stable.

In Spain (van not RV), the most popular is Coleman Butane Stove. I used it at the beginning also until I installed a fixed one with 6kg gas. Thank you very much for sharing Bob.

I bought a wood stove from China for around 13.00. It works great! It comes in 5 pieces that fit together and it is flimsy. I got some bread ties and wired the edges together. I have used it a couple dozen times. You load it with scrap wood or paper or anything you can find that will burn. I like to use it to boil eggs. Never have to buy fuel for it!

@Bob, thank you for these truly informative and important videos. The jet boil scares me. I'll stick with the little kettle that plugs into the cig lighter. It's prefer propane as well, but am interested in the Dual One that some people mentioned. I also like Coleman products. Thank you again!
I carry two different stoves - one is a backpacking miniature pocket rocket style stove that works with iso-butane and the other a coleman single burner that works with propane. I used to use that middle stove but I found that it goes through the butane bottles fast, and it's so bulky to keep it around when I can't always find that fuel in shops in more rural areas. (but you can indeed stock up at asian markets for a good price) But like someone else commented I don't like to carry a big stockpile of fuel canisters, they scare me. The recommended max storage temps (~120F) are much lower than the temps inside a vehicle on a sunny summer day.
I read that they should never be stored in a vehicle except only for transport.

i use the jet boil in my van for boiling ware only. so fast and easy and takes up so little space. i use the butane for cooking everything else. everything said in this video is accurate... except i don't worry about the safety of one over the other... just be careful when cooking and also let things cool down before putting away.
I can heat and boil anything under 5 min on a portable rocket. Free fuel everywhere you camp.

lol, i use a 3-burner suburban propane cooktop+oven. takes about 4 minutes to boil about a liter of water for my morning coffee. made egg and garlic fried rice this morning for my meal. i love that stove! :)
I love the Jetboil for boiling water. But it turns out I never use it these days. Very specialized. I mostly used it to heat up bathing water on cold days. It never tipped over on me even though I was always worried about that.
The dual fuel Gas One stove is my choice since it can use either propane or butane. I like using butane canisters sometimes because they are very convenient to use. You just have to remember that they don't do well @ 32 degrees or colder, the cost a bit more and may not be quite as easy to find as propane.

I have the butane stove but haven't used it yet. I have used propane in the past and do like it. The JetBoil is really good for backpacking.
If you buy a butane stove make sure you get one with at least a 10k btu burner. Hard to boil a large pot of water with smaller burners. Thanks for sharing.
Gas one dual fuel is a great stove. I use propane 99% of the time. Keep a couple butane just for an emergency
Bob, I love the JetBoil as well. The trick to conserve your backpack fuel is to buy the adapter that allows you to use a standard propane canister with your JetBoil. My apologies if already mentioned. Light the JetBoil before placing the container on top as well. Much safer sir. 👍👍👍
Gas one has a heater attachment that looks to work really well.
I’ve got a butane/propane dual fuel stove, rocket stove, and solar stove for shtf scenarios. Always have 2-3 of the critical survival items. Water purification, fire starters, etc.. god bless

I just looked online the jet boil fuel is a combination of butane and propane they probably add the propane to the butane so that it has a higher freeze temperature also the molecules nestle together to pack more calories into a can
Some places, like the desert, wood is not so easy to find!
A few years ago I drove from the midwest into Denver. Fired up the Jet Boil for some coffee at camp, and going up in the elevation did something or other, and instead of boiling the water, it melted the Jetboil! Luckily I had an electric tea kettle, so boiled some water using the outlets at the bathroom. REI in Denver was nice enough to pull the melted components off, and it functions again, but is still a bit too powerful. Ha. I am really enjoying my Biolite wood burning pizza oven. I have grilled, fried, made pizzas, boiled water, and had fun outside with it. It has a USB charging port fueled by sticks I pick up in my yard so I don't even have to buy fuel. I have the small backpacking Biolite stove but it takes FOREVER to boil water. Fun backyard BBQ stuff, but not practical for nomadic daily life. Great great option as a back up though, and probably only good right now in the Midwest, as fires rage in the West. The pizza oven is supet stable, though, and I have never had an uncontained burn. It has a fan powered by the fire and doesn't even smoke. Great flavor for the food, as well! Bob is right, propane is the safest and easiest.
I bought a Plana burner, get 1 week of cooking from 1 can of butane. Very satisfied with it.

You could get your stove of choice for inside, and if you've got fire-capable pots, then get one of the little $10-20 rocket stove kits and burn whatever deadfall you find at camp for an efficient outdoor cooker - may take a bit longer to get the right temp but it's free to use and will last a long time.
I like all of these, but really need 2 burners, and definitely supplement with wood fire. We have something similar to the jet boil, we place it on or close to the ground for the scary tip over that could happen, really just use it for very quick coffee!
You can refill the green bottles using an adapter to your 10 gal tanks. Yes, it's safe.
Jet Boil does one thing boil water.... Try heat up soup volcano...BOOM!!!! I took it on a three week trip and thew it away.... it only boils water!
I you want a real wilderness stove look no farther than a swedish Trangia stove....Alcohol stove set that works! Great set... so you need to do another test....lol!!!

I use a Optimus Primus stove that was made in Sweden like 30 years old male runs on unleaded gasoline will heat water very fast and very cheap to use
If you are making coffee use the Jetboil Flash. If you are making pancakes or a burger use the Jetboil MiniMo-it comes with the pot support to use your frying pan of choice if you aren’t using the one liter cup style pot it includes. The Flash is on or off while the MiniMo lets you control the flame better for the right temperature.
I have both of them. Make coffee with the Flash every day.
The Coleman Duel Fuel 533 is a gasoline burning stove for outdoor use ONLY that I really like. The only thing I don’t like about the green bottles is that they’re not recyclable, although I have refilled them on occasion.
Safety and price wise, I'd go with Bob's choice. The Jet might be great for emergencies but not for everyday.
I can see that the jet-boil would work well for hikers, space and muscle saving, but for everyday use and especially "inside" anywhere, I would not feel safe.
Just curious, have you tested alcohol stoves? Denatured alcohol is available at any big box store.
Ok I have a butane stove in my van and on my picnic table.... The green bottle lp is cheap but a little clumsy.... I do use a induction cook top in my van mostly. Talk about boil water fast!!
I use a older Coleman stove that uses Coleman fuel. Works well.
How often do people only need to boil water vs actually cook food?
Try a test with other kinds of stoves (alcohol, MSR Pocket Rocket Deluxe, both with a caldera cone accessory).
If all you need is a stove top the Coleman propane is excellent but if you want an propane stove/oven camp chef portable is my choice 💞😃✌️👍🐾👣love ya Legacy Wells 💞
They sell "adapters" that allow you to refill the green bottles with your larger, BBQ style tanks. Much safety & caution required when using them though.
Filling my 5gal BBQ tank costs roughly the same as a two pack of the green bottles. I can refill roughly 40-50 of the green bottles that way.
Bob, would you do a video talking about the proper connection for propane to coleman stove. Mine always seems to be a sloppy connection leaving me unsure if it is properly sealed. When you lifted the green bottle i saw the same thing. Thank You. 😬😀😊😎
You can also convert your butane stove to run propane with a little adaptor.

Hello there, can anyone talk about how to store these butane and propane cans in the car? How to keep them in summer when they are stored in a car that may get very hot inside?
What about induction cooktop ?
Bob did you know that stoves that use the green Coleman propane bottles will also work with propane torch canisters from a hardware store? Not sure if they work out to be more affordable but a great way to keep your stove going if you can't find the Coleman propane canisters or don't have a big tank with an adapter. I found out about this by accident when I bought a vintage Bernzomatic boy scout propane stove that uses torch canisters. I tried swapping in a green Coleman propane bottle and it had the same threaded fitting and worked perfectly!
Propane all the way. I use a 2 burner propane. fast, easy, clean, fuel is available at MANY places.
Butane apparently doesn't work well at high altitude. or below 32 degrees. Sometimes I have gone to stores and they don't have both propane and butane, only one. I want to be able to adjust the flame so I really don't want a jet boil. I think I want something that could use dual fuel.

What about propane storage? I’ve heard you should not store propane inside your camper or van.
Yes, I read never store in vehicle except to transport. Also, what about gas canister disposal? Online says must be done carefully and specifically.

It is possible to use propane in the jetboil with a adapter
The burn ban won't allow us to use wood, even though I have a pile of it and it's free. We can even use charcoal which also costs money. I can't wait for the weather to cool so I can make real campfires again.
I really hope it rains a lot and soon. The whole western US and even Texas have fires. Sunset was blood red all the way in Minnesota tonight from the fires.
