Stopped at 5:54 to confirm. I’d had Boba about a month when he and I were out walking. It had gone dark by then, and a stranger approached us. He tried to chat, but Boba, all 8mo and 65lb of him, dropped a growl so low the Japanese picked it up on their seismometers. That dude teleported back about six feet, and disappeared at a quick clip.
I hustled Boba back into the car, and immediately hauled butt to the local PetSmart to let him go hog wild in the treat aisle

One of the ways my doberman shows affection is head rubbing(yes, like a cat). He punches his head and rubs it into me. The similarities between dobermans and cats are actually quite shocking. Sun bathing, head rubbing, cuddles, rat hunting(which i think comes from the manchester terrier, which I think went into the doberman breed). I try to tell people, my dobie is just a giant household cat.

My Doberman is now 5 months old and everything you said is still spot on. Dog love to sleep under the covers, and if there's an odd sound, she flies out from under the covers to go look out the bedroom door, then right back under the covers. She's going through what seems a teenage phase, healthy, but stubborn lol

I have two Dobermans. A mother, (A blue) and daughter, (black and brown). I take they to the park twice a day to run. I've had people stop and tell me that they are beautiful animals. I had a friend stop by one day, and I said to the dog, " Sasha watch him ", and walked out the room. The friend hollered to me, " She came up to me, and she's staring at me. Get the F*** back in here, she's scaring the hell outta me ", and I came back in the room....lol

My neighbor had a Doberman when i was a kid and every time I would come back from the restaurant with my parents, i would purposely not eat all my food, just so that I can give some to my neighbor's dog. The dog would go crazy, once he knew i had brought food. I build a really good relationship with my neighbor's dog, which I'll never forget going over and playing with him. I felt very comfortable and protected when he was near me. Now i want a Doberman 🖤

Hi john for me the best reason for me to have owned a Doberman. Unconditional love. That dog loved me and I could see it in his eyes and actions every day. Total trust and loyalty and protective nature. I would sometimes fall asleep on the floor taking a nap and I would wake up and he would be spooning me. He learned to bang the door when he had to go to the bathroom. I did not teach him but he figured it out on his own.

My previous red dobbie name Sadam was very smart. He learned most command in 2-3 repeats. He had to be near me all the time like touched me every time it lied down. If i moved to another chair he would follow too. I still miss him today. My next probably will be another dobbie

My dobbie scared away backyard burglars with her four month old bark! My parents have always feared the breed because of the stereotypes, they feel in love with my red dobie they got a puppies themselves! And its true people stop you, she even gets honks, or they even cat call her with prices 😢and how beautiful she is.

I grew up with a dobie. He was family. He was 87 lbs and lived 13 years. We made some mistakes training him in the early goings and we all adjusted together. All of the lap dog content is on point. He would hang out curled up on the floor near me for 5 minutes tops, then it was time for pats. I would pretend to ignore him, but then he put his head under my hand. Still, I would do nothing and he would lean against me, give me side eye occasionally, and push his muzzle down on my leg with emphasis. He always got pats. He’s been over the rainbow bridge for 30 years and I still miss him.

Talking about "slobber" mixed with "strange love" mixed with being a "tidy dog", my girl Dobie used to use me (my pants) or the couch as a napkin after eating or drinking. She would eat or drink and then come up to me or the couch and wipe her muzzle off. 😲 I learned to have a napkin 🧻 handy when she drank or ate!

I'm a 62 year old, lifelong Doberman owner... When I'm ready to go to work, I tell my 8 year old rescue, "Let's go to work," and he goes to his bed in my office and works hard at napping. I've had him for just over a year, and he learned that within a week, and I wasn't really training him! No treats, no repetitions were needed. Mom has to work, and he keeps me company. He's the best coworker I've ever had. Never talks back to me, and doesn't whine about the lack of benefits or the 'work load' either! ;-)

John is really one of the world's premier subject matter experts on doberman pinchers. And I can verify personally that he's one hundred percent accurate about the breed. He's such a fabulous resource and I really value his videos. My hybrid doberman pinscher learns commands consistently after three repetitions. And my doberman has been tested by animal control because of a neighbor problem. I told them that my Doberman was a velcro dog. They said we'll see about that. And after the tests at my home they said we agree, Your doberman is a velcrow dog. What a fabulous breed. I've owned other dogs and I don't think I could own any other breed again. Thanks john for another great video and keep up the fantastic work!!!👍👍👍

We just got our doberman pup and it's a dream and sometimes a little 'nightmare' 😂 due to the nipping and biting 😅 But i feel so amazing, he is lovely, cute, tough. He loves to cuddle! ❤ And yes, he is so fast in learning, i am blown away. Knows 4 commands already, just in less than 2 weeks 😳 He is amazing off leash, he is better off leash than on it. But of course we leash him where it is needed or dangerous.

I'm looking at adopting a rescue doberman in a few years time when I'm retired and can give time to this wonderful breed.... I'm currently a greyhound mom, he'll be around 6 or 7yrs old when I'm possibly ready for a doby. I've learned so much about them from your channel...admired them from afar for many years.

I've fallen in love with the Doberman breed.
I used to think they were vicious dogs that would be ready to attack at a moments notice. Only to realize what you have taught me is true.
I'm hooked and would recommend them to those that have the time for one.

    What a beautiful amazing dog!
Watching your video made me realise that you could apply 99% of these things to my boxer.
Even things I didn't automatically associate with the Doberman, like being goofy 🙂
... also the "oh my god I had to pull over my car and come talk to your dog, as I had one growing up and I love them so much"-thing is for real 😀
I didn't know how many features the Doberman shared with the Boxer (obviously not the looks).
Growing up with Rottweiler, there is something about the tan and black breeds that always makes me fall in love with them.
I will go and watch more of your videos now!

Great video. I think my best dog was a Doberman lab cross. He was a very tall deep chested scary boy who would greet children and adults at the door. My current dog a Shepherd / Boxer crosshas been my smartest dog and easiest to train. I would look to a Doberman cross again hoping for less vacuuming again. At 85lbs, I love him but would like a bit smaller since I'm older. Big dogs eat big meals and do big dumps!😊

This breed, boxers and golden retrievers are my favorites.
Ive only had a boxer thus far, which is in all honesty an exact middle point between goldies and dobermans 😂.
They have the energy and guard dog like nature of dobermans and the playfull yet troublemaker type personality off the golden retriever.
Cant wait to try owning the other 2 breeds

It's all true what You say in your videos, I've learnt a lot from You about dobermans personality, training, care and so much more. But for the first time I saw in your video a flash of doberman drinking habit xD I was so suprised that not only from my dobermans mouth flows soooo much water after drinking, I have never experienced this in any of my previous dogs xD but I'm also shocked how loud it is when he drinks xD is it normal that it is soooo loud, do all dobermans make so much noise when drinking water? xD

Great video! I have a mixed Doberman and a lot of these hold true for her! Quick question though- our girl is 7 months old now and has a real fear of strangers and likes to charge and bark when taking her on walks or if someone she doesn’t know comes in tbt house. She is especially fearful of men. Do you have any suggestions on ways to make her more comfortable around strangers and people we have welcomed into our home? She does great with everyone she knows.

I enjoy your videos. They make me almost want to get a Dobie (actually the 'almost' could probably be removed). My issue is that the health of my wife and I are such that I'm not sure we can be as active as a Dobie would need. I'm also concerned about my wife due to seeing her with our current Chihuahua/Shih-Tzu mix named Billie. We got Billie shortly after her 3rd birthday (she's 10 now and still acting like a puppy). The people who had her before us gave her no training at all. She has a full dose of the Shih-Tzu stubbornness and my wife was not reinforcing any of my attempts at training I made while I was away for work or other errands. At least Billie does her business outside or on the training pads we keep out for if we're going to be gone for any length of time. She's also friendly with other people though hit and miss with other dogs. I would never trust her off a leash outside since she gets single minded when she catches a scent (not sure if that's her Shih-Tzu stubbornness or if she has a touch of Beagle in her lol). Anyway, that should get across my concerns with a Dobie. Though I can't work anymore and am with my wife almost 24/7 now, I would be very concerned with leaving my wife with a big intelligent dog like a Dobie. At least if Billie is being unruly, my wife can pick her up easily (only 15 lbs).
