We just had to put our Doberman down. We have been Doberman owners for 30 years. They are an awesome breed, but not everyone can own one. Thanks for your channel. It is wonderful to see a doberman puppy again. You are spot-on with your guidance. Our breeder is no longer in business. If you have any leads to a solid breeder I would appreciate any help. Once a Doberman owner....always a Doberman owner.
My Doberman is 9.5 months, now. He is from Kansa Dobes, in Wichita, Kansas. He is such a great dog. Very smart, sweet, easily trained. He's from a line of champion show dogs. I just wanted a companion. www.youtube.com/@kansadobermans2647
I have followed your advice since getting my Doberman puppy, she's 4 and a half months old now and just a joy in the house and anywhere out in the community. I began leash training at 14 weeks, and she now walks at my left side perfectly as long as she knows that I have yummy treats in my fanny pack. LOL I have enjoyed every single moment of my journey with my new puppy. We just began Puppy Obedience class, and because my girl is so advanced we were moved into the class with the Big Dogs! Folks, just follow these videos and raising a puppy will be a dream for you too.
Update, my girl is now 14 months. I followed the advise on this channel religiously, and it made raising a Doberman pup a breeze. I think that my dog and I can almost read each other's mind now. Every show on this channel is just loaded with excellent advice!

Got my first doberman a day ago. Red rust. 10 weeks. Docked (not my choice, would have kept the tail) but uncropped (i love dog ears so ill be keeping those). Dew claws removed as well (again not my choice). I currently taking him out to pee every hour. Our large 100lb doberman rott mix has taken well to him... no incidents. I can already tell im in for a challenge. Hes all over the place or sleeping.

I'm getting my very first doberman in 4 months in August 2023, a full European male from a vetted breeder and it has been my dream to own one for 15 years and it's finally going to happen! My son is excited, my husband is scared. I've been watching a ton of your videos too prepare and I've read tons of books on the breed over the years. My pup turned 5 months old recently and she’s doing great! Does great on a leash, no more accidents inside, ears are standing, and she still loves her crate but also my bed lol. The only thing is that she’s always been cautious of strangers no matter how much we socialize her. Oh well, she is a Doberman after all!
Also, my dobby is barking at 4mo very often, very strong protective instincts. I believe he picked up from my roommates 2 year old German Shephard because she is constantly running our fence line and barking/ very protective of the house.
My Darling is about 17 months. He has learned over time. He is not cropped. He is not docked. He is learning socialization. He loves people but he wants to jump. He’s such a good boy. Hi John, absolutely love the videos and have learned a lot from your channel. I welcomed my first Doberman Luna (female) into our home in November at 8 weeks old. She is now over 3 months old and doing great. I followed so much of your training tips in the first few weeks. The only difference was I didn’t start in the bedroom with the crate training at night. I kept the crate in the kitchen and slept on the sofa for 2 weeks. I found this much easier to progressively move myself away from the dog rather than move the dog away from me. Plus the dog gets to know this room is her bedroom at night. She has a great routine now, potty trained and sleeps through from 9am to 7am without a peep! Day time can be a little trickier juggling work, play time, exercise and the mental stimulation, but overall she is so much fun to be around. The main challenge I face is keeping everyone in the family consistent with the training E.g. good manners, waiting at the threshold, not jumping up and the dreaded nipping! Forgot to mention I am from the UK so Luna is a brown and tan dobbie with floppy ears and a curly tail! We love her to bits! Keep posting the vids John! I will take all the nuggets of information I can to make sure we get the best out of the relationship we have with our furry friend! ❤
Should my longevity hang in there, I will be buying another puppy. Dobermans are the greatest and I might need your advice about a breeder now. I did have my own breeding and so did my veterinarian however we all grow older and things change. Love your show. Dobermans are the best pet if you can call him a pet they're really human. They do need a lot of structure exercise routine and stimulation. That is the only breed I wish to own until the end of my days. Thank you
thanks for posting these i plan on vlogging once i get my doberman puppy but following you and other instructors online as this will be my first official family dog. Keep the great content coming
For me, the worst has been the chewing on things part with my doberdane. So many wooden window sills and moldings have been damaged, even with the bitter spray! Oof! Started to improve a lot around 7-8 months. Phew!
Greetings, I have been through many things in search of the perfect Doberman for me until I found your channel, thanks to you I found a wonderful breeder always willing to answer open doors from the beginning to visit the farm and meet the future parents of my puppy. present throughout the process, even a video of the moment of birth, has been beautiful. Now the time has come on December 17th my puppy will finally come home I will pick him up and he will come by car with me I have chosen that it be a female and I am very nervous you recommend socializing but she tells me to keep her at home until her second round of vaccinations What would be the correct week for that second round of vaccinations since I am worried that he will get sick and I already have his appointment planned for the ear cropping in his 10th week I read your answers thanks for the channel it is very effective and I do not miss a single video .
Consistent CONSISTENT Consistent CONSISTENT 👏! Routine whatever you want to call it! This has always worked for me! Wake up every 2 hrs if needed during the night! Remember they go 1st you second. Because if they here you up chances are they have also stood up and relieved themselves too! (Early on Puppy stages
Thank you for everything you do. This is great channel that’s given me all the information I need and has helped me prepare to receive my new Doberman puppy.
All of this is helpful information to know for whenever I can get myself a Doberman dog 🐶 So anyways God bless you brother and you're awesome family 👪 keep up the great work that you're doing with giving us information about Doberman breed of dogs.
A video about every trick you can teach your dobermann and how to. For example go left or right, jump, bell, on 2 feet, growl and watch someone on command
Great idea! Here is a video we did on how to teach your Doberman any trick you want to insanely fast: ua-cam.com/video/bUBlms2FEyU/v-deo.html and here is our article with a timeline of how and when to teach the most common tricks/commands: www.dobermanplanet.com/how-to-train-a-doberman/. Hope this helps!
Wow love the video . I do envy you and other dobie owners who are getting a break from the puppy stage. At 12 mts we were as well with our previous dobies but miss Niya a is proving to be a challenge still. She is beautiful, sweet, and extremely intelligent. But 75% of her is defiant. She leaves me exhausted. I welcome any advice....... T.C
Great videos! I’ve had 3 Great Danes and 2 Dobermans, I love the large breed dogs and Dobermans are my favorites. It’s so spot on when you talk about the focus Dobermans have on their people, they’re so smart and so connected. I wish I’d had your videos when my dogs were babies because we had so many sly (and hilarious) power struggles that I would have been more prepared for, which would have been so much better for the dogs. I just lost my Stella today, she was 11.5 and acting like a puppy until the end. Watching Arlo has been a wonderful distraction and helps me look forward to the day when I’m ready to go again. Thanks so much!
We just got our 8 week old puppy yesterday. She’s only had one set of shots. Do we need to wait until she’s had all 3 sets (so January) to start the heavy socialization (other dogs and lots of people)? Can we take her in the pet store with us yet? Thanks!
My first lesson with a Dobe puppy is to use wide feeding bowls, his chin broke out from touching the sides of a medium-sized bowl. Second, because he's high energy the best toy is a tree tuggerI found on Amazon for 25 bucks.. It's a tough bouncy green ball that has a bungy cord and hangs from a tree in my backyard that will give your Doberman all the exercise he needs in 15 minutes. Your dog will run. jump and tug non-stop. The best 25 bucks you ever spent. Avoid giving him peas, potatoes, or grain-free foods which can lead to DCM. NEVER give your dog grapes, which are toxic. I give him a beef flavored daily with breakfast that he loves called Pet-Tabs Plus Multivitamin and Mineral Supplement also on Amazon. Finally, once a week I cook chicken hearts and liver in a little coconut oil seasoned with just iodine salt, then I add just a cup of brown rice, mixed vege's without peas and a splash of bone broth. Sometimes, I add lean ground beef and a teaspoon of extra virgin coconut oil on top. Just as a side note - he absolutely loves ice water vs. no ice.
Just an FYI: John's recommended puppy food, Purina Pro Plan for large breed puppies, has 430kcal/cup per their website. I was wondering and know others probably were too. He also recommended 1800 cals/day which will obviously be contingent on activity levels
Love your videos but the one problem I haven't seen being addressed is furniture chewing. Our 8 month old decided to start chewing on the couch. She's been punished but not drastically because I know Dobes are so smart that someX they'll punish you back for punishing them. I've sprayed NoChew and then just when we think she's learned, we walk through the living room and there's the destruction again. At my wit's end and Hubs wants to make her an outside dog which will never happen. Any advice will be super appreciated
Be very tuff with em there stubborn smart dogs they take a strong leader but best dog after 2 to 3 years i find keep em inside and out there a people dog want to be with you leave it outside and you will regret it im on my 5th doberman there the best just stay on them while there young take awhile too mature
@@siennad6209 One year and she's fine. Don't have to crate her. She wants to please and knows what's wrong and right. She's with me all the time, never outside unless to play or potty. Shes' probably my 20th Dobe. I'm old
Great info, as always!! The only thing I would add is maybe waiting a little longer for unsupervised house time with the females unless they're already spayed. We spayed ours at the 12 month mark, but before then they really struggled with being alone for more than an hour or two. I can only guess it has to do with hormones, because after they recovered the confidence and mellow came right back! The boys seem to do great at this from 7-12 months
Thank you so much for posting this! Very informative and perfectly explains how much work you need (and should want) to put in for your Doberman to be a great member of your family!
i have a 1.25 year old dobie. hes very good with puppies and small dogs, but he gets the yips when big dogs chase him. hes still young, and i can feel for him being scared of big dogs chasing him; however, he lives with a rottweiler and has no problem getting physical with my rottie when my rott wants to play rough. is it an age thing? ik older dogs have a different way of viewing non-neutered males(like my dobie)
I have a red nose 5 and 1/2 month European Doberman and I'm having difficulty crate training and being destructive in the home not listening video seem like it's going to help me but I'm having a hard time finding an obedience class due to covid each time I call there's no answer maybe you can help me find a class for my dog named Titan I love him he's great
One of the most helpful videos you've made yet! My doberman seems to be ahead of schedule according to your months. I was wondering if this is normal lol.
Our puppy is four months old and has learned so many commands from us already, very pleased. But we feel its time for her to go to k9 training for more in depth training' Do you feel its better for her to stay there for the 2 to 4 week training or there and home at nights?
We got a beautiful little girl who’s half European half American. The owner unfortunately was getting rid of them too young and we were forced to get her at 5 weeks or he was going to sell her to someone else. Can you offer me any advice for helping her this early on. She is really bad with the biting and I nipping at the face. She’s so beautiful and sweet we just want to do what’s best for her
But many other guides say that 7-12 months is puberty phase, up to 18 or even 24 months for large breeds. Shouldn't then testing of boundaries increase instead of slow down?
You should make a video on reactive dobermans… I have a male rescue European Doberman who is 2 years now got him when he was 11 months… he is very very dog reactive and have the worst separation anxiety, don’t get me wrong I love him but it’s a pain sometimes to not be able to even go to the store… or for a normal walk. So would be great to do a video about reactivity in dobermans and the best ways to help them get trough it 😊
Great idea. It's been added to the list! In the mean time you can look up desensitization training. It's a great idea for things like fireworks on the 4th of July or gunshots for New Year's Eve.
@@DobermanPlanet Thank you so much! I’m from Sweden so not a lot of things that are legal here when it comes to train a dog and such! But overall your videos has helped me a lot in understanding the breed and it’s needs and it truly is my favorite breed even tho we have some problems to work on 😊
@@barisedwards hi I have looked on a lot of he’s videos but I live in Sweden and a lot of the techniques he uses are not legal here sadly. I have a question here.I am planning to buy a dobie puppy and I am curious if you think it's better to go out on my property for a week or so(have lots of space and a trailer to live in, or start directly at home, where I live in rent? My thinking was that first we get used to eachother, and than to the living place,as that way I can learn to train him better and bother the neighbors less.
I have been trying really hard to trade my new Doberman pincher puppy. I got him on December 5, he's been in his new home for 2 1/2 days. Every single time when I try to go for a walk with him with his leash, he refuses to move. I'm struggling really teaching him. Tracy come in and getting him to walk. He does not want to watch Queen he has a leech on.😊
How to potty train Doberman? My one is almost 3 mnts old and still can’t hold longer than 3-5 seconds(( if I carry her - I often end up covered with her pee and 💩!😣
Help! My boy is 6 months old tomorrow and we're at out wits end with him jumping up on us and the furniture. Positive reinforcement when he leaves all four paws on the ground doesn't work, growling at him then reward when he's on the ground doesn't work 🤦♀️. At obedience classes the instructor calls him Tigger because bouncing is what he does best 🤦♀️🤦♀️ Oh, and calm is not a thing he understands. It's full steam ahead or asleep. Not much in between (and yes, he does get regular exercise).
My doberman is a little over 4 months old and still pees in the house 3 - 4 times a week. I have been consistent with my training since I brought him home at 8 weeks. No UTI or other medical condition. He learns commands very fast. He is already flying through obedience classes and heeling on the leash, so he isn't stupid. Why is potty training such an issue?
I have a 3 month old female Doberman. I just got her from a person that didn't have the time or patience to raise her. She is super smart definite at the nipping age. I am potty training her as this was not taught to her but she is learning. I have been feeding her 3 times daily. 3/4 of a cup per meal. Is this enough or how much would you suggest. Teaching her crate training she is doing pretty well with that doing tug of war toys and nylabone to chew on. Any suggestions would be appreciated thanks.
Hello my doberman is about 8 weeks old and she’s starting to bite shoes and everything. How do I get this to stop since she’s biting us and we’re trying to fix this problem while she’s young.
You're not alone, Maddie! Here is a video about puppy biting that will be helpful: ua-cam.com/video/nk3rXqEpBYI/v-deo.html. Just stay consistent and you'll see a payoff soon!
Hallo, my name is Soreta, I live in South Africa. I have watch your videos on UA-cam because we have a female Doberberman pup that is 4 months old. I enjoy your videos, my problem is that I have 3 beagles that is 6 years old and they are a big distraction. I did have my own breeding and so did my veterinarian however we all grow older and things change. Love your show. Dobermans are the best pet if you can call him a pet they're really human. They do need a lot of structure exercise routine and stimulation. That is the only breed I wish to own until the end of my days. Thank you
I hope you never stop making these videos as I’m going to get a Dobermann puppy next year when i leave school. I’m going to need all your help!
Im getting a 6 week old doberman puppy soon! This was very helpful!! Thank you so much.
6 weeks? That's illegal.
@@edengarden6811 I meant 8 weeks srry!
thanks for posting these i plan on vlogging once i get my doberman puppy but following you and other instructors online as this will be my first official family dog. Keep the great content coming
This is super helpful. I’m thinking about getting a Doberman.
I have a doberman I love it her name Gabriel 1 year & 11 months of age very intelligent & loving
For me, the worst has been the chewing on things part with my doberdane. So many wooden window sills and moldings have been damaged, even with the bitter spray! Oof! Started to improve a lot around 7-8 months. Phew!
This is my fear too. Getting a baby dob in couple of weeks. Any tips to avoid furniture biting?
Great video! I have a 6 month old mixed Doberman puppy and this is a very helpful video!
Thanks so much, Heather! Glad you enjoyed it!
@@DobermanPlanet you’re welcome! Love your channel!
This channel is all I watch since October haha … I’m going to get a Doberman next year so please don’t stop posting advice!😂
Lots of frozen kongs with food inside to chew on. Antlers and yak chews are invaluable!
I should freeze the kong (8 week old)?
@@joyoflife1832 I depends how quickly he can demolish an unfrozen one :)
The frozen Kong toys are a great idea!
I’m getting a Dobermann thank you 🙏 😅
Your guide and other guides have been very helpful.
I am enjoying my experiences with Donermans. They are amazing dogs. 🎉❤😊
Most breeders say 10 to 12 weeks is when you can take the puppy home since they are the one to do the ears.
We just got a puppy and hes all about the lap, l9ves to hug. Funny seeing a full size doberman on your lap. 😆
Thank you for everything you do. This is great channel that’s given me all the information I need and has helped me prepare to receive my new Doberman puppy.
All of this is helpful information to know for whenever I can get myself a Doberman dog 🐶
So anyways God bless you brother and you're awesome family 👪 keep up the great work that you're doing with giving us information about Doberman breed of dogs.
Thanks so much, Marcus! So glad you enjoyed this video and found some helpful nuggets of information!
@@DobermanPlanet Hey I'm a dog lover I've had all types of dogs expect a anckel biter
I noticed that you did a Doberman vs boxer vid and I was wondering if you could do a Doberman vs beaucueron vid?
Nice video John, Dobermann Film and Maja from belgium. 🤩
At 12 mts we were as well with our previous dobies but miss Niya
a is proving to be a challenge still. She is beautiful, sweet, and extremely intelligent. But 75% of her is defiant. She leaves me exhausted. I welcome any advice....... T.C
how to deal with The behaviour of ignoring comands, stealing your stuff and digging i the backyard?
Thanks so much!
hope you are getting by a little better.
I just got my puppy he is 9 weeks old, could you a video on gentle play for a puppy.
omg amazing video! New Sub! 🤗
We just got our 8 week old puppy yesterday. She’s only had one set of shots. Do we need to wait until she’s had all 3 sets (so January) to start the heavy socialization (other dogs and lots of people)? Can we take her in the pet store with us yet? Thanks!
Carry her around if you can. Just being outside and seeing things going on is socialisation 😊
I pic my puppy up December 17 I can’t wait I’ve been watching all your videos thanks for all the great information
Thank you for the great work you do on all your video
Thank you
Love your videos!! Commenting for the algorithm 😉
Essential info!
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed this video!
i have a 1.25 year old dobie. hes very good with puppies and small dogs, but he gets the yips when big dogs chase him. hes still young, and i can feel for him being scared of big dogs chasing him; however, he lives with a rottweiler and has no problem getting physical with my rottie when my rott wants to play rough. is it an age thing? ik older dogs have a different way of viewing non-neutered males(like my dobie)
Great video and tips...done subscribed..👍👍👍
I have a red nose 5 and 1/2 month European Doberman and I'm having difficulty crate training and being destructive in the home not listening video seem like it's going to help me but I'm having a hard time finding an obedience class due to covid each time I call there's no answer maybe you can help me find a class for my dog named Titan I love him he's great
i noticed the dogs ears look great..but you dont have much tape etc as i often see?
I completely agree. That is the situation with my dobie.
What puppy food do you recommend for dobermans at 8 weeks of age? How much do you recommend feeding them at each meal?
Blue or Diamond
What do you recommend for socializing during the critical period when they aren’t fully vaccinated?
You should make a video on reactive dobermans… I have a male rescue European Doberman who is 2 years now got him when he was 11 months… he is very very dog reactive and have the worst separation anxiety, don’t get me wrong I love him but it’s a pain sometimes to not be able to even go to the store… or for a normal walk. So would be great to do a video about reactivity in dobermans and the best ways to help them get trough it 😊
Check out beckman dog training. He has a bunch of videos on all types of issues. And he shows you how to handle all of them. Should help you out a bit
We probably would have come a lot further with our training if it weren’t for that 😪 but thank you anyways and sorry for my bad English as Swedish is my first language😅😊
What’s age/ month is better to start a professional training?
I have a question here.I am planning to buy a dobie puppy and I am curious if you think it's better to go out on my property for a week or so(have lots of space and a trailer to live in, or start directly at home, where I live in rent? My thinking was that first we get used to eachother, and than to the living place,as that way I can learn to train him better and bother the neighbors less.
Is there any tips for properly training them away from excessively nipping other dogs in the house? Our doberman pup is about 13 weeks now.
He does not want to watch Queen he has a leech on.😊
Is there a video on your posting method
Intro looks and sounds great
How do you socialize your puppy who doesn’t have all their shots?
How to potty train Doberman? My one is almost 3 mnts old and still can’t hold longer than 3-5 seconds(( if I carry her - I often end up covered with her pee and 💩!😣
Help! My boy is 6 months old tomorrow and we're at out wits end with him jumping up on us and the furniture. Positive reinforcement when he leaves all four paws on the ground doesn't work, growling at him then reward when he's on the ground doesn't work 🤦♀️. At obedience classes the instructor calls him Tigger because bouncing is what he does best 🤦♀️🤦♀️
Oh, and calm is not a thing he understands. It's full steam ahead or asleep. Not much in between (and yes, he does get regular exercise).
@dobermanplanet think you may have a "phisher" here!!!!
At what age do they stop counter surfing? Or this this something they will continue to do during their life time?
My new puppy is in the nipping/biting phase and it's been a struggle.
You're not alone, Maddie! Here is a video about puppy biting that will be helpful: ua-cam.com/video/nk3rXqEpBYI/v-deo.html. Just stay consistent and you'll see a payoff soon!
How do you feel about air line crates? I have both
What king of treat can be given at two months old?
Hallo, my name is Soreta, I live in South Africa. I have watch your videos on UA-cam because we have a female Doberberman pup that is 4 months old. I enjoy your videos, my problem is that I have 3 beagles that is 6 years old and they are a big distraction. We want to play hide and find with our pup, my daughter hides and I ask our pup to find her, she does that but when she finds her, she bites her legs and don't let go, what must I do to make her understand when to stop, is she to young to do that now.
What to do if you get negative comments from the public on the ear cropping when walking and socializing y9our puppy. what should i say. what information can i use to explain . thank you
Hi… I have a doberman puppy and i noticed you use some kind of minimal posting method for Arlo looks a flat stiffer taped to the inside of the ear. Can you share the materials you used? I am really struggling posting my dobermans ears she hates the tubes or tampon method
What is the latest you can get the ears cropped (i.e. by 4 months, by 5 months, etc.)?
Is it important if you get it at 8 weeks or 3 months old?
Our boy is 19 weeks old and still makes accidents in the house. Is this ok for them not to be fully potty trained by this age??
