As a Rottie owner, and an previous owner of golden retrievers, labs, and German shepherds I can say my favorite is the Rottie. Without being aggressive she is intimating to strangers. She loved my grandkids and is was so smart she could read your mind. She was also a very calm and so easy to train. I had to put her down last week because she could no longer walk. My wife and I are still grieving.

I’m so sorry. I lost mine to cancer 3+ years ago. I just was able to get a new little boy Rottie. Prayers for his longest life. My heart feels broken still..but the pup is helping. They’re so intuitive 😢❤

Growing up, as a kid, my family first had a European Doberman and then a Rottweiler. The reason, we lived in the middle of nowhere and my parents wanted protection without owning a gun. Here is my take on both breeds:
E. Doberman - this is a probably the smartest dog I have ever seen. Training this dog was easy. Show her something a couple of times and she got it. She was our dog. There were 5 members of our family and that is who she was loyal to. No one was allowed to enter or leave our house without a member of the family acknowledging the person presence. People were afraid of her because of the bad rap the breed has. She was always in control. Oh and she was really, really fast as well as agile. They really did not talk about how these dogs are large; yet they can change directions quickly. Rabbits did not live on our property because the Doberman would chase them and run them down. She never killed any; just exhaused the rabbit to the point it could not run anymore. She knew where all the rabbit holes were; so she would run the rabbits away from the holes. It was a sport for her until the rabbits moved off the property.
The Rottweiler was very different. This dogs was trainable but stubborn. Whereas the Doberman you could train with praise, the Rottie was praise and treats. She did nothing unless you trained her belly too. Owning a Rottie is great because EVERYONE is afraid of this dog, This dog was far more intimidating then the Doberman. Speed wise in a straight line, she was probably faster than the Doberman and our Doberman was really fast. The issue with the Rottie's speed is she had no cornering ability. Her version of chasing a rabbit was to chase the rabbit and then crash into a fence, patio furniture, or fall down because she could not corner like the Doberman. I know if I was ever chased by both breeds: no chance with the Doberman, with the Rottweiler - run at the dog and then veer off. After playing with the Rottie - it always overshot me and had to put on the breaks. This gives you the time you need to get away. If you time it wrong ... the Rottie has a bite force like I had never seen. A ball in her mouth was NOT coming out unless she let you. Her head was massive as was her neck. Unlike the Doberman, this dog understood family and friends. Once you came to our house a couple of times the Rottie allowed you into and out of the house with no problems.
Neither one of these dogs has a problem with children. Both were great dogs. I would recommend either for a family.

Our old Rottweiler knocked me down at one and I got stitches on my lower lip.
I don’t think they understand their force, but I believe he was reaching young adult hood by the time I was 1. I can still see there the stitches were in 29 now
I like to wander alone in the woods and I've owned both breeds. One thing is for sure: Both know when to be in protection mode and I was always fully relaxed in the woods knowing I have a skilled bodyguard by my side
Yup. Those along with German Shepherds. They might wander a little, but they keep an eye on you.
Only thing is my Rottweiler dose not come when called if he sees another dog and that is not good
@@azcardinalds2360 how old is your rottie? My pup is 3 months and he will not come when called he will stand at a distance and stare at me until I go get him. It’s cute now but when he’s big I see it potentially being an issue.. are you doing anything to train yours to come when called?
@@anyshavalencia8617 mine is like 7 years old. All I do is try and walk him more often and practice getting his attention. Also I try to watch lots of dog videos. He is full of energy but once we walk for a long time and no one is around I let go of his leash and let him walk and he just stays at the same pace as me and dosent run away and if he goes far and I sit and call his name he comes back. The other day I was walking him at night then I let him walk off leash and we were walking then he starts going ahead so I just sit on this short wall and watch him walk then he’s about 20 feet away and I call his name expecting him to come back then he just stares at me for about 5 seconds then just keeps walking and goes around a wall so I go after him and start calling his name then I hear a voice and I’m jogging a bit over there then I just see this girl about 25 with a brown and white husky about almost a year and he was tall then I said sorry as I grab the leash and when I grab the leash he just started to growl aggressive at the other dog so I immediately tugged the leash and released and said no loud and firm in order to get him out of that state of mind and it worked, it is important to correct all bad behavior immediately. Then we started walking away and he was good after
@@anyshavalencia8617 You have to get a handle on that. Your Rottie is testing you. Try this, command him to come, if he doesn't, turn around and walk away.
I have owned both and love both. My Dobermans seemed to be more territorial when it came to protection and my Rottweilers seemed to be based more off my families emotions. The best kids dog I ever had was a 129lb rescued male Rottweiler. He was nothing but patient with my toddler son no matter what but if my son whimpered, squealed or cried he was on a mission to find out and take care of the reason why.
I came home from lab draw, had tiniest drop of blood on cotton, my male rottweiler noticed of all 4 dogs, became immediately concerned and checked me for more injuries then went to fence checked fence for any predators then came right back to me and was like swat team for rest of night, refusing other dog to get next to me and escorted me every where that night. He also was very delicate to not jump on me like he usually does too. They really do good at assessing situations.

You nailed it... the difference is (generally speaking) Dobby's are very protective over their property and their family's home. While Rottweilers are usually more protective over their humans and family. That's why the Rottweiler will react based on your emotions while dobby's will determine if something is a threat without looking to you for guidance. Dobby's are much smarter than Rottweilers and because of that they are the better guard dogs. Dobby's are better at alerting to threats while Rottweilers are better at eliminating the threat... they actually make a great team. The dobby is faster, they can chase down an intruder and wait for the Rottweiler to catch up and eliminate the intruder lol.
As a senior, widowed female, I prefer to keep large breeds. Currently, I have a GSD. I often see another senior female walking with her Doberman. She's a tiny & frail woman, smaller than the dog. That dog is huge & I sure as heck wouldn't mess with the woman, let alone approach her. The dog doesn't zigzag walk like so many other dogs. It stays directly beside her, keeping her slow pace. I'm impressed.

As a rottie owner, my girl has a strong natural protection instinct. She definitely has no fear of anything. Super sweet and goofy, I wouldn't trade her for anything.

@@choppa9577 as a former owner of 3 (a pack), and now a labrottie, I highly endorse the breed! However...just make sure to evaluate your own lifestyle, and yourself before you get one. These are NOT the type of dog for people with no experience...or those who can not exercise, train, and who lack leadership skills. This dog does not respond well to heavy handedness...but to calm, assertive authority. This dog sheds! And sheds...lol.
This breed is loyal, and very protective, and MUST be raised young to interact with others in a social setting...big, BIG poops, and a 40 lb bag will last about 3 weeks at $60/bag...They are prone to cancer and hip dysplasia- thankfully, with mine- none of the latter, but 2 of 3 got cancer 😪
I would suggest meeting a reputable breeder, reading and learning as much as possible before you purchase! NO PUPPY MILLS!! You would be encouraging negative health issues, inbreeding, etc.. and when daddy screws daughter...and mommy screws son? Well...banjos play! And you could get a temperamental or psycho dog...
Check your homeowners Association and Insurance regulations. Often, a person will not think, get a dog, and need to relinquish that dog because of restrictions.

I opted for a Doberman when looking for a family and guarding dog, 2 things missed on here though:
Doberman has RIDICULOUS endurance, speed is one thing but my dog is literally an infinite Duracell battery!! The athleticism is through the roof
Also the Doberman is very smart, sometimes too smart - a very knowledgeable breeder once told me if you teach a german shepherd a walking route the dog will be clever enough to remember it, if you teach a Doberman he will remember it, then work out shortcuts 😂

I agree with you! And I feel like thinking prior to acting is a good quality. I have a doberman, and I love when I see them thinking. The split second of thinking will be made up for with intense speed!

I think with how close they are in intelligence it would depend on each specific dog.
Dobermans look more intimidating in the day but nothing is scarier than the silhouette of a Rottweiler staring at you at night

I had the extreme honor of owning a beautiful European Doberman. He just passed away at the age of 2yrs 2 months from DCM. I am beyond devastated, my life will not be the same without him. He was the most amazing dog ever. He was smart,very protective, but he also had an aura about him. You either loved him or were scared to death of him. Most were scared but he was a goofy,playful,loving soul. He weighed 130 lbs,he was so big...RIP KHAOS, you were loved and never will be forgotten. 4/5/2020-6/9/2022💕🐾🐾💕
Sadly, DCM comes from bad breeding. You need to follow the bloodline and the pedigree going back 3 to 5 generations studying the health histories in the lineage. DCM and DCM2 are fully detectable with health testing. Any dog testing positive should not be bred. Backyard breeders do not health test their dogs. Every doberman/owner that has had DCM will say that they went to a reputable breeder. The truth is, they went to a backyard breeder. It's politically incorrect to make this statement, yet it is still correct. There is no criteria that needs to be met in order to be classified as a "reputable" breeder. However, criteria does need to be met in order to be awarded the "breeder of merit" status (which requires health testing on all dogs that are to be bred)… which is what people should be looking for when searching for a breeder and bloodline.

My condolence to you. All I have ever raised are Dobie's. I love the intelligence and love they possess. As well as, how they bond to their human. An FYI for you, fairly recent, but proper testing for DCM is now available. It's a blood test. And a Vet can discover DCM quite early. Which means, you can begin a treatment plan per se. Apparently there's no cure. My current Dobie girl (Abby) is test every year when she has her annual check up. As well as, I test the thyroid too. Which every Dobie owner should do too. Again, I'm so sorry for your loss.

If you ever get a new one make sure that you don’t have them on a grain free diet. Looks like the replacement ingredients for grain are linked to DCM.

I had a Rottweiler and a Chihuahua. The Rottweiler passed a few months ago, she was 13 and I had her since she was 8 weeks old. My chihuahua is close to 15 years old so they basically grew up together. The Rott was scared of the Chihuahua. They would play together but if the Chi went off the Rott would run from him. lol

I agree with this article. I do think that are both are great breeds. I own a Rottweiler right now. He was a rescue and comes with baggage . I have no doubt he would die defending me. But I also know I can't let folks near him. He was so abused he's permanently damaged. I've earned his trust, but it took a year. So we're just having our best life living in the middle of nowhere. He'll have a home to live out his life. And I get a friend for the rest of mine. It works for both of us.
I got my first Rottweiler in 1985 when I was stationed with the U.S. Army in West Germany and I brought her home with me. I've had them ever since. I love Rottweilers.

The roti looks more intimidating but like all breeds the owner reflects training if trained correctly both are defensive and offensive killers
personally i think a big european doberman looks more intimidating. they just look so damn muscular and with that skinny snout with those razor teeth it's sketchier to me lol, especially on that taller frame.
@@colecampbell1906 I agree. I have a European male and he stands taller than a lot of Rottweilers in my town. And his bark is deeper than a lot of rottweilers here.
I hope you are socializing your Rottweiler b/c all the Rottweiler owners I know their dog has almost bit me its like the dog was scared of me b/c the dog was not probably socialized, and if your dog is not socialized or you are not trying to socialize it than don't have them out with your visitors.
I've had all kinds of dogs in my 32 years, 5 of them being dobermans and let me tell you I will never go for another breed. They're super intelligent and loyal. My dobbies would listen to hand commands. We didn't have to say a word; just the click of our fingers would get their attention and they would be hyper alert. A flat hand meant lie down, the index finger pointing down would mean sit, a hand flicking up would mean stand. It was awesome. I can't wait to get my next one!
I remember once being chased down by a Doberman. I was walking back home and a guy was with his dog walking and chilling, I was minding my business and was on phone scrolling and guess what, the Doberman ran straight after me 💀 lucky enough, his handler was well built and pulled him really hard towards himself. I was scared that evening

I own a Doberman and he is not nervous, he is laid back and as long as my Doberman can see me he does not care about anyone else.
I've owned a Doberman and I've owned two Rottweilers. Both make great guard dogs and amazing family pets. However you if want a great guard dog you will have to train them well. It really depends on the individual dog in my opinion. On her own the Doberman was just a golden retriever which looked like a Hell hound. A very strong and agile hell hound mind you. She did a great job looking the part but if it's performance you want you will need to train them from a young age. For my two Rottweilers my good girl Sheena was a dream dog. The most affectionate dog I've ever met, a great guard dog and beloved family pet. She had that natural hunting instinct and was loyal till her last day. I was blessed to have her in my life . The male...well only thing he was a threat to was his food bowl. Pretty sure he wasn't even a well bred Rottweiler.
I will always favor the Rottweiler over the Doberman but both are great dogs in the hands of a capable owner.
Yes it really depends on the genetics. Sadly there is very few good dobermans left as the breed has gone more towards pure pets. But the sharp hard dobes are still about.
SAME - I've owned a doberman and 2 rottweilers (one male and one female and the male was more placid than the female). I too favour the rottweiler over the doberman but both breeds extremely loyal and great guards, I just felt the rotties were more balanced dogs.

That's the thing. A capable owner.
As a owner with over 60 years experience both in standard obedience, plus K9 uses.
As a family dog the doberman is one of the most protective for the family. They tend to go toward the children as a protective animal. The family will be a loyal companion. They are freindly but have no problem in putting an aggressor in place.
Females tend to be smaller in stature as compared to the males.
When trained as a K9 animal they are very determined and protective. But can also be a very docile family pet. They love children.
Dobes love children.
Both are equally as good to have as protection dogs
Never mind the Doberman and the Rottweiler I'd runaway from a damn chihuahua 😅

Rottweilers are ugly ducklings for sure, Doberman's do look pretty good, not my style though. If I wanted a guard type dog I prefer the looks of GSD or malinois

@@samo6083 you're pushing it. Sure not all rottweilers are "ugly". But a dobermann (especially European) will always look better than a rottie. There is a reason that dobermanns are used for fashion shoots all over the world.

As a doberman owner I can tell you without a doubt that even without protection training the doberman feeds off the emotions. If sketchy stranger walks up to you and you dont feel comfortable the dog will make sure he keeps his distance.
I agree that Dobermans are sensitive to the emotions of their owner, very much so. I've had a Doberman and a working Line GSD, both from European backgrounds and I found that my GSD was more expressive and easier to read. My Doberman would look at strangers in the same way all the time and his stance wouldn't change or his expression. My GSD basically ignored strangers completely until she got a sense of my reaction to them. Then her expression would change to something like anticipation of meeting someone I was happy to have approach us, to the steely eyed stare and waiting to launch herself at their neck if she thought I might ask her to. I never did!
I love the beauty and elegance of a Doberman. Believe me, no one gets between me and my Dobe. I would protect my dog as much as he would protect me!!!

@@irritablemina They do to some degree. It is completely manageable. The most important thing with Dobermans is to understand that they are nonstop energy especially for the first 4years! They are working dogs, they need something to do. They are also extremely loyal and tied to your hip. They do very poorly when left alone for long periods. I could've have one if it wasn't a team effort with my husband. If you have the time and are very active you will be very pleased with the experience. They are magical creatures.

I've had both breed's and they are awesome!
I now enjoy and love my second Rottie. My first lived a short ten years, and was my animal soul mate. I never thought I could bond with another, but my two year old and I are headed down the same path. There is something about this breed, they connect with their family members like no other animal I have known. He is gentle with my four other rescue dogs, with the exception of the one Bulldog mix. They sometimes get into it, and I have not figured out why. Doberman’s are also beautiful and equally intelligent dogs, and I would not hesitate to have one in the future. For now, and hopefully the next ten years, I love my Rottie, and feel extremely confident he would give his life to save mine. It’s in their genes.
I grew up with an enormous doberman. Yeah he would bark at passers by, but he was such a friendly loving dog to everyone. He played with all the neighborhood kids daily. Everyone who did not know him thought he was a fierce attack dog and avoided our property, but for those unsuspecting who already entered realized quickly the power of the tennis ball and sticks were more important to him :).
He wasn't a pure doberman

My European Doberman puppy is pure blood, akc certified, her parents both show winners, and she's aggressively friendly lol. She's never gotten aggressive over food, toys, etc. Only time I've heard her growl was when someone was in my neighbors vacant house.
So I get exactly what your saying! My baby girl is just shy of 7 months old and 70lbs. Her mom is 80lbs and her dad, who was imported from Romania, is 120lbs of pure muscle. I wasn't looking for a big Doberman, just one from a healthy line.
Right now we're trying to teach her not everyone wants to be her friend lol
As a Rottie owner, it’s hard to find them intimidating as I am familiar with their goofy personalities. On the other hand, without any protection training, they will guard the home, and their humans. It is their is instinct.
In my experience, they are very obedient and think before reacting. My girl does what I say even if it’s not what she wants to do lol

Ours is sweet as can be 99% of the time, but there have been a few instances where he got serious and it was shocking. We trust him fully when theres no threat around, but are very carefull with dominate dogs or strange men.

I had a Doberman for 12 years and was amazing in every way. I now have a Rottweiler and is just as amazing. They are literally a tie in my book for family and guard dogs.
I love my Doberman. He is very loving and comfortable around people and dogs in our home. But I tell everyone don't approach him outside unless I am outside too, he is protecting us and our home. Hi my staffie is getting on a bit now and the misses likes Doberman’s so we’re considering getting one next. Are they all cuddly like staffies? you can’t beat an affectionate dog. We’ve also got a German Shepard and he will not cuddle.
@@willis8281 Extremely! Dobermans have no sense of personal space when it comes to their humans. If you want a dog that thinks you are its pillow and will be attached to your hip, then a Doberman may be the one for you. But they are highly energetic and require good socialization.

When I was growing up one of my friends had a Rottweiler. She was great. She stayed with us off lead, would run, swim and play with us for hours. I've always respected the breed for those traits.
My male Rottie is 1 year old and is so protective. He is nice to everyrone but can tell if someone is giving off a bad vibe. I can get him to bark on command and he learns very fast.
Best way to get a dog to protect you, treat it with lots of love!

Firstly, I am not claiming to be an expert. That said, it seems that some of the traits listed for the European Doberman were being mixed up with American Doberman traits. As far as size goes, a true male European Doberman ranges between 80-100 lbs and 26-28 inches in height. People forget that Doberman were bred from Rottweilers originally. Also, their bite force tends to be much greater than that of a pitbull and other similar breeds (very underrated bite force). Not to mention the larger than average canines, similar to that of a Belgian Malinois. The endurance and intelligence is second to none. Most Doberman's were replaced by German Shepard's due to the negative stigma Doberman's received, back in the 70's/80's. It was not necessarily based of performance or potential.
No one knows what a Doberman consist of. Some believe Rottie is in a Dobie. But no really knows what Louis Doberman used to create the breed. I've raised Dobie's all my life. Currently on number 8 (Abby). She tore her rear ACL. She was attacked by a bunch of coyotes. She's all healed up now, after two major surgeries. Last year the coyotes were a huge pest on my land. I have no issue dispatching them when I see them running in my backyard. Hopefully they don't come around this winter. But I doubt it.
I've had Rotweillers, awesome dogs. As far as the "speed" thing, they are both chasing humans, so I think its not that important. The thing I noticed about my dogs was that they remained quiet until you are on top of them. Had a dude running from the police who decided to jump over my fence. Lets just say he was easy to take into custody being frozen in place. The two dogs just kept him company letting out a growl everytime he moved. Fun times.
I had the same thing happen. Though, it was probably worse. Some dude had tried to break into a neighbors house. Neighbor heard this, called 911, then grabbed his 9 mm. Dude got one foot into neighbor's house only to realize he was about to get shot. About this time, the cops show. Dude takes off. Runs about a block to my yard and entered through the door of my 6ft privacy fence. Dude ducks down, and tries to hide. He didn't realize that Raven, my 100lbs Rottie, and I were chillin' and grillin' in the yard. I didn't know what was going on, but I had a good idea that this guy was responsible for it. Raven latched onto him. I gave Raven a certain command, then told dude he had two choices, he could leave in the back of a squad or in the back of an ambulance. I flipped my steaks. I then walked out of my yard and whistled to the cops and pointed to my yard. Dude was cuffed and stuffed, the cops thanked both Raven and myself, and Raven and I enjoyed our steaks.
But weght qnd speed combination must be a factor.
@@pickettmandi Yes, it is. The Rottie is not the fastest of dogs, but can still catch 99.9% of men. And once they catch you, you're not running anywhere.

I had a rottie, and a German Shepherd.Loved them both very much. Both excellent pets. Main difference when they were in protective mode was warning. The shepherd would warn someone before they’d even approach. My rottie was silent and patiently waited. I never had a Doberman, but a friend did growing up. She was the dad’s dog and you could tell. She had no patience for anyone else. That kinda left a bad opinion for that breed for me. But I never owned one, and I know they’re all different. ❤️ I’ve always loved big dogs.
For me as I’ve got a Rottweiler, sometimes they look scary when they’re REALLY angry but when they are all chilled out and happy their so loving ❤️

Every Rottweiler I have had and I've had several over my lifetime at 62 yrs. old have been special.The two Dobermans I have had were good dogs but there is just something about a well bred Rottie. They are the most lovable clowns when around their family just silly lovely family dogs.And both breeds are so smart.The more time you spend with them the more you get out.Can't go wrong with either but I choose the Rottie, after all the Doberman is actually a mixed breed dog where the Rottweiler is a purebred dating from Roman times.

I have just picked up a Rottweiler that’s 10 months old who’s been cared for by a single mum and three little kids. He was so strong. The kids didn’t know what to do with him and and poor old mum couldn’t take him for a walk. Needless to say this is my third day in and it went like this-
First day, he was jumping on me wouldn’t listen and a little bit nervous, but affectionate.
Second day, he was very stubborn, not listening to commands still getting the hang of things, but a lot better than the first day.
The third day he sits down when requested he’s a lot better walking on the lead. He doesn’t pull as much and he takes food from my hand perfectly, very smoochy and cuddly.
I must say I have had GSDs for the last 30 years. I noticed that a big difference between the two breeds is the Rotti is very goofy and fun willing to put his body on the line. My shepherds were in love with one person only. The GSD always had a favourite and would almost need permission from the master to patted by anyone. GSD is very different, highly intelligent and accurate, also very sensitive. They suffer when you go on holidays they almost get depression.
The rotti so far is just a fun goofy protective dog and would bond with a lot of people. He is more robust and is not phased by different experiences. I can see he guards the yard at only 3 days into our relationship. I’m really looking forward to seeing the differences.

Honestly, I love how you guys keep bringing up owner and family behaviors. Our actions have such a huge impact on our pets, and lots of people don't realize this. Love the Doberman here :-)

When I was a baby, my family had a Rottie. I have been told that she didn't care at all that I grabbed onto her and caught a ride on her back. From what I have been told, then Rotties are super stable once they are mentally adult (4-5 years old).
My family grew up with German Shepherds we had one German Shepherd that was friendly to everyone. We had another German Shepherd that was only loyal to my Grandfather and aggressive with everybody ended up giving that German Shepherd a job with a security guard.
Well good, they might’ve trained it properly and interact so it’ll be friendly except towards bad people like murders, robbers, and rapist, and sometimes they don’t like strangers. And I know dogs sense the good and evil in people. But overall they’re good guard dogs and good family dogs if they’re trained properly

My family was told that the police force here would say ~4 years before they were ready to serve... But Obviously different lines varies :)
id say 2 year old ive had 3 rotties from puppies to 9 mnth old dogs and all 3 were calm and relaxed at 2 years old before that like crazy 4 legged kangeroos that listen when they want to
As a kid we had a European Doby in the US. My father gave him basic training. He was loyal dedicated and my siblings and I never feared knowing we were well protected, The video is correct in that as children if we did something our doby didn't like he'd give a low growl; one growl from a Doby and we kids knew to stop. He was a great dog.
Had a buddy growing up who had 4 Rotties and 3 Dobies. All about the same age and not very well trained. When visiting the Dobies would remember me and treat me well. The Rotties would treat me like a stranger every time. When I watched the dogs for a week, they all treated me well but the Dobermans looked to me for instructions. The Rottweilers were more aloof. Also when UPS arrived they all went nuts until I told them to "place". The Dobermans would clam-up and go to their crate. The Rottweilers continued with their unhinged barking. In my experience there is no comparison. The Doberman is vastly more compliant and predictable. Both are beautiful and fierce defenders. Rotties defend the pack while Dobies are much more singular in their focus. Have a family? Go for the Rottweiler. If you are single, a Doberman has absolutely no equal. If a couple or a family gets a Doberman, that Doberman WILL choose a favorite...

Yeah I don't know where they got the weight from. 80 pounds is low for a male european Doberman. Even American Males weight up to 90 pounds.

It’s cruel to cut the ears of an animal just to make it look a certain way for us humans. Doesn’t matter if you like the look or not. It is cruel and should be forbidden everywhere.

The ear flap doesn’t protect the ear canal, in fact it has the opposite effect: air can’t reach the ear canal properly, which can cause ear infection - dogs with really big or hairy ears have this Problem of ear infection more often like the basset hound or golden retriever. But: the ear flap of the Dobermann isn‘t that big and to avoid ear infection the owner just has to check the ears regularly and clean them if necessary. Just because the dog could get an ear infection doesn’t justify cutting their ears. Same with the tail (an exception might be Dogs used for hunting), same with other organs like the uterus, the eyes, their legs etc.
The tail is so immense important in the communication of the dog and just saying „oh, but it is a long and heavy tail, they could break their tail when wagging it against something“ isn’t a good argument: look at other countries where tail copping is forbidden (I live in a country where it is forbidden): it works - with the exception of some dogs used for hunting, there it is allowed.
My brother's Rottweiler literally acts like my Labrador. So friendly and goofy. Doesn't even bark at strangers. His Doberman though is protective by nature. She's well-trained but will bark at strangers from mile away

I was born in a family that raised and trained both breeds as attack dogs. There was always a process involved to invite new friends over. Good dogs.
Love my Rotties. Best dogs ever. I have 2 females now, I've had 5 altogether. They are so smart, sweet, affectionate, brave and funny. Best protector and companion possible.

My big male, the 3rd Rottie I had, only had to see me hit the button to open the garage door once before he figured out how to do it.He could easily jump up and reach it, so I had to put a box over it. I keep the 2 girls I have now away from other dogs, just to be on the safe side. Rotties get along best with other Rotties.
@Bradlynn Virchow That is a huge dog. My male weighed 150 and he was a moose. Watch out that they don't get too heavy, they can blow their knees out. He blew both of his. They took 6 months to heal. He had to be on a leash the whole time.

I have owned dobermans for over 40 years and I can tell you that a large male doberman weighs about 45KG, not 36 kg. My last male european dobe weighed over 50Kg (which is too big)

Yes I was wondering about that because the complex I grew up in, there was Doberman named Casey that terrified me.(not fair just big). When Casey passed away he got a new Doberman and I kid you not it was so massive it easily was a 100lbs. It was from Germany...wasn't as agile as Casey but he was a sight to see. Spent more time indoors. Someone said it was a "King" Doberman. I don't know what that is.
I had a female Dobie that weighed 85lbs all muscle and fast as hell. Males can easily weigh 100 lbs.
I had a Rottie weighed 74kg, not a gram of fat. Trained by my dad who trained Police dogs. Rest in peace dad
My Bear ( Rott) & Jonie ( Dobie) got naughty and gave me 5 puppies, Kaimook ( male) can scale 2 meter high fence, all of them are fast like the mother and powerful as the father. This mixed litter have all good qualities of both breeds.

Lucky you! 9 out of 10 Rott/Dobe crosses I've known (and I've known quite a few) were not very balanced dogs. most tended to be over weight dobes with leg issues. But the good ones are like oversized dobes on roids with rott heads and tend to be bigger than both breeds - like a Liger! I wonder if it matters which is the female parent?

I´ve had both, love both. If I could have one it would depend on my living situation. City life, then I would go with the doberman because they are just majestic to walk with them and are so well behaved indoors, also city life reduces the chances of their coat getting nicks and cuts. If I had a yard, a big yard and kids, perhaps a country living kinda of life then rotti all the way. They are great with family kids and their coat protects them far better than a doberman´s coat from cuts or bites from other animals. Both are very protective and intelligent the true difference is how they learn. Where the doberman is a TALK AND GESTURE kinda of approach with light physical play, the rotti is a HANDS ON PHYSICALLY FIRM and assertive approach. So to me the doberman is a ninja and the rotti is a samurai.

I, however, am surprised about the doberman for city life, rottweiler for country life preference you have, since the doberman has a lot more energy than the rottweiler and needs more exercise, where as a rottweiler is known to be much more calmer indoors, but I can understand your view with the coat issues. I was once helping someone install a new dishwasher. His Rottweiler tried curling up in my lap as soon as I got down on the floor! Lol. Loved that dog.
I had a Rotty years back and he weighed in at 92 kilograms and he wasn't a fat dog just huge. He looked intimidating but was the sweetest dog ever. A genuine gentle giant.

I rescued a 3yr female abused Rottie into my home with a 3yo, 4yo and 7yo. She never had any poor behavior or bad actions. She was completely protective of my children and myself from day one. I believe she was finally happy to be loved and found a family. She was an awesome kind gentle dog around us however I wouldn't have wanted to be someone who brought harm to our family or home. She would escort my children back & forth to bathroom during night blocking staircase with her body. She truly was a magnificent loving dog.
I got such a dog too, a boerboel and my mum got a Stafford boerboel mix also a rescue. Theyre nothing but grateful for a second chance
My last Rottie was a female. Had a motherly instinct about her. Raven Loved playing with the kids. Kids would come to my door and ask if Raven could come out and play. Raven was always very mindful of her size and strength around the children. Then, 1 day, someone broke into my house....

I absolutely love Rottweilers I've had 3 of them absolutely huge 125 plus pounds. They were absolutely amazing dogs. I've never had any problems or issues with my boys. Great dogs that love their people and protect their family. I absolutely love the Rottweilers

Both I would imagine would be very useful. Toughest dog I ever owned was an Airedale Terrier called Morgan... he was built like a tank & was extremely alert guard dog also capable of hunting & tracking... if I ever needed backup he was always there.. he was a bit of a clown too & once ran off with my lump hammer & I couldn't find it anywhere... he also dug a hole in the carpet while my girlfriend was on the playstation & chewed my screwdriver handle... he liked the taste of screwdriver handles best...unfortunately I had to have him put to sleep few years back.. that's always the hardest part of owning a dog.

When I was very young we had a mixed Doberman/Labrador, she definitely leaned towards Doberman. We never had pure bred dogs. She was amazing, she was basically a babysitter for my sister and I, even when I'd grown up she'd look at me like I was still a little child. RIP Babe!

My experience as a dogtrainer is that Dobermann is more nevous and Rottweiler has a rock solid mind, it doesn't react so easy, every thing is not dangerous. so no reason to bark out loud every time something is happening.

My great grandparents had a Doberman named Dobie. My mom still remembers they had to keep kids away from it. She remembers as kid that it was very smart and would wait until you trapped yourself to corner you. She recalls having to slide behind a dresser to hide from it. Notoriously, Dobie once went nuts over the smell of a roast cooking so that grandmother could not get to oven to take it out. So, she had to call the old man to come home to remove and spank the dog. Thereafter, the dog always peed on his coat in the hallway.

My Rottie always shows affection to me and others even strangers when out and about. However if I ever feel threatened, his mood shifts to match mine and is on full guard. Such a beautiful and loyal breed.
That is a serious weight difference. You cannot ignore that. Rottweilers are extremely powerful, if they catch youz you wont get away from them
Getting away from a Doberman would require someone else cracking in the head with a bat. Out fighting it is pointless (one on one), and same for out running it.
The power is in power of dangerous of mouth, weight is worst for problems. Sleep to much, eat to much, lazy. Healthy issues etc.

I've Both owned and trained Rotties. A Rottie playing with children is a beautiful sight. A Rottie stopping a home invader means you have to go buy a new mop, and repaint the walls.
@@craigbailey7558 You won't have that with a Rottie. A Rottie get hit, that just makes them MAD!! My last Rottie was struck over 20 times by a home invader with a 28" aluminum bat. She still shook the Sh!t out of him. I had to repaint the kitchen.
My dog was a mungrel, we had her dna tested to find out what she was. She was 50% boxer 20% welsh corgie, 20% german shepherd. And 10% other. She was an amazing dog, we all loved her to bits. She died a few weeks ago, she lived to 14. We will never forget her

Our Neighbour had 2 Giant Rottweilers, genuinely the biggest Rottweilers and just dogs in general i have ever seen. They were just pure size and strength, they must have been from an impressive line and would've cost a pretty penny.
Also a house down the road had a Doberman and it would bark at anyone who walked past (in a protective way) and it had such a deep and loud bark it was so cool to hear.

As far as I’ve read and heard the main reason for the scarce use of Dobermann in police forces depends on the strong one owner personality. It’s extremely difficult to change handler with a Dobermann.
The Dobermann has been the first (WWII, Pacific) and most decorated army dog.
Well in the US. The rottweiler was bred to be roman war dogs. They missed that detail in this videos description.

My employers own a male Doberman that weighs 135 pounds!!! He is a MONSTER!! He is not overweight either, he's a perfect machine! Their vet owns a Dobie & he even said he's NEVER seen a Dobie this BIG!! Im not sure about his height so Ill measure him when i go back ( Im their housekeeper) but this dog is amazing!! Loyal, loving, protective - when i show up their ( the male & female) are at the door flipping around waiting on me to get inside. Love these dogs❤❤❤

I ve kept both of these breeds for over 20 years, I still own 2 of each. I cannot choose between either of the two and I will explain to you the reason behind it.
As I live on a large farm land which is isolated from main roads, in a wooded area close to wilderness, I have a vast variety of wildlife, poachers and intruders that I have to deal with almost on a daily basic.
I have three needs that both these breeds together can fulfill.
1) I need to keep a close guardian breed with me and my family at all times and both the Dobermann and Rottweiler always stay close to me and them when I am not around. I dont need to call them as they almost always stick to me like velcro.
2) Be able to attack and defend if necessary and have great threat perception ability. Once the threat is detected, if commanded or I am not present, be able to handle it well.
3) Be great companion dogs and great with kids.
They are both similar, yet unique in their own way.
I would like to start by saying that training is absolutely crucial with them as these are very strong willed and capable breeds, you need to have prior experience or the very least, do a lot of research as to what you need to do, how to train them, be able and willing to put in the massive amount of work and be ready for the long term commitment.
That being said, if you re looking for a loyal breed, these are as loyal as they come. Both of these breeds are phenomenal guard dogs with protection instincts in their DNA. Both mean serious business and both will give their life to protect their family, there is no doubt about their courage, their ability to conquer the enemy and neutralise it if deemed necessary. Both love their family very much and are the sweetest of dogs with them. They both have short fuses and may or may not tolerate being bossed around by people they dont know well. They are aloof with strangers and training is needed to avoid any untoward behaviour. I have never had a problem with their aggressive behaviour because I train that out of them as young pups. They are both fed raw food, supplemented with vitamins, fish oil and minerals.
Strenght wise, the rottweiler is a stronger dog, due to the size of its massive head, its bite force is more powerful than a Pitbull or German Shepherd. The way the front canines point outward will eviscerate flesh from the inside meaning these teeth will do more internal damage. The body is more muscular, weighs more and therefore, it can take a beating. The Rottweiler is a bruiser and is not afraid to battle it out if needed.
The Dobermann, on the other hand, has one of the sharpest canines in the dog world and its snout is perfectly designed to cut up the target especially flesh. With its slender body, its quicker and faster than the Rottweiler and I ve found them to be more intelligent as well.
Together, they are unstoppable and they compliment each other tremendously.
It is very fitting this ends up into a tie. Both breed has it’s strengths and weaknesses. Good job!
The dog that my family owns is a rotty pit bull mix. She’s a good girl, and is very protective. She’s well behaved, and she’s friendly, as long as she doesn’t feel threatened.
Rottweilers are pretty tough dogs, but there will always be a type that will be stronger than them.
Size isnt everything. Mike Tyson beat everyone in his prime and was the smallest heavyweight ever.
When a dog gets over a certain size it makes them slow.
The Rottweilers will win over the bigger dog 9/10 times because of his intelligence combined with ferocity of a wolverine.
Source: I dedicated my life to troubled dogs who had a Big Rottweiler at my kennel who demolished everything from two Kangals to a Huge Caucasian male. I tought the Kangals had gone crazy on the Caucasian when I was at the store because he was bleeding but after watching the cctv the New member of the pack( the Rottweiler Patek) had shown them who was the boss.
I also had a Giant Schnauzer and a German Shepherd at that time but they were smart enough to stay away.
I love both breeds, but have had rotties for the past 25 years. Our current boy is 5 years old, 130 lbs and acts as my husband's service dog, providing balance and support. He's a mommas boy, and if I travel without my husband, loki is my co pilot. Gentle with my grandsons, suspicious of strangers and listens better to women. Threatening my safety is not smart. Large and powerful, he keeps my husband upright, helps him out of chairs and wins hearts everywhere.

I’ve had both. My robe was incredibly smart. My Dottie was a little flighty. I have since moved to bouvier des flandres. Has all the protection qualities of both the adobe and Rottie. Just less energy. I hike a great deal my bouv is right with me off lead, doesn’t chase the deer or coyotes we may see. All three are great dogs can’t go wrong with any of them
