This song gives great perspective on the "hells of war". Not many people understand this song and video on the first try. Great job, very powerful reaction.

I don't think I've ever seen anyone who has reacted to this video who's not been emotionally touched by it.
The music video really adds to the impact of the song.

The truth for more than you can imagine for many soldiers. Sad But True. Stand for our Soldier current and past. Respect for their commitment. Just at least stand.

Im honestly glad you got emotional. Most of the time, the subject matter gets lost during reactions. This is the ultimate anti-war song. And yes, the drums were supposed to be gunshots.

The famous blacklisted author Dalton Trumbo wrote JOHNNY GOT HIS GUN in 1939. It was adapted into a motion picture in 1971. Metallica used the 1971 movie footage.

Metallica bought the rights to the movie so there would be no copyright infringement.

    watch the movie.
    very educational!
Metallica buy the rights of this film so they can use the clips for the song.
the song writtenafter they watched the movie..
FACT: at the point the doc says 'he says kill me, over and over again.KILL ME"..drums from this point till the end of the song, hitting a drumline in morse code these words: KILL ME.

I'm very familiar with the song but not the movie. Why would they keep him in this state? Some kind of experiment? In real life they'd keep him pumped up on opioids which would keep him in a pain-free, euphoric state. They'd keep administering them until he was eventually euthanized.

    • @janiepowell3218
      @janiepowell3218 2 роки тому +1

It was an experiment to see if they could keep him alive. In the movie, the nurse tried to mercy kill him but the military guy walked in and stopped her. To hide their cruelty, he was locked up in a room alone, kept alive, and the nurse was fired.

Love your reactions, sooo sincere and deep from your hearth. This is a marterpiece a total era of metal music, as you can see metal musicians are not senseless. "You love songs that have deep meanings, (Stairway to heaven)". I do recommend you to listen Tool, Third eye / Massive Attack, Teardrop and as a singer you are Tricky, Nothing change. I also love your sweet voice! Cheers for music, beauty, greetings from Costa Rica!

Often this song has been described as an anti-war song, but that's not right. It certainly portrays in graphic and emotional detail the cost of war; however, it must be understood that this cost is, at times, necessary to prevent tragedies infinitely worse than what is depicted here. Anyone who has read the Gulag Archepeligo, or witnessed the autrocities of tyranny recognizes that this is the easier softer way, despite its very real casualties.
It also must be taken very seriously to consider and ensure that war is, in fact, absolutely necessary.

The movie and book that this song is based on most certainly is anti-war. You may interpret it in another way, and Metallica's intention I do not know, but the author of the book wrote it as an anti-war message. He published it right after the start of the second world war in Europe and was against America's involvement in the war.

Never liked this video because of the intrusion of the added fim footage that can confuse the listener. Love the pendant and earrings you're wearing, by the way.
