      While I would consider myself to be a TwoSun fan, I definitely want to know if they are not using what they say they are. I've tested a few so far and their D2 and M390 came up as real, based on the composition, but I know heat treat is a completely different ballgame. I've only used the D2 blades for hard use so far, and personally have been pretty satisfied with the edge retention. If you want to test a few more, please let me know, I have some in M390 and S90V you can put up against the ropes 😁

      They fixed the heat treat after the first run of a 100 so your #608 should be fine
      It’s just too bad that this whole heat treat thing keeps stikking to the TwoSun brand after all this time, other older more established brands screwed up heat treats much worse and for much longer and it doesn’t stick to them like it does with TwoSun (like zero tolerance screwing up heat treats for multiple years on multiple models and the heat treat plant in Maniago Italy that screwed up the heat treats for all the m390 blades made by all the brands in Maniago)
      TwoSun actually listened to their customers and fixed the problem as soon as possible (it took zero tolerance 5 years and the Maniago plant 1 year)
      TwoSun is actually currently making a knife in s110v (ts-261) and it’s exceeding market standard (there’s a UA-camr that did over 1600 cuts through twisted sisal twice)

    Hm.. luvthemknives has done hardness tests on their steel and they test well. I'd be more interested in seeing you test their M390. Twosun has stopped using s90v in their newer models from what I've seen. Like Pete says, this is one of their older models.
    Also for everyone saying heat treat is only an issue in China, plenty of sources have found poor heat treatment in Kershaws USA made m390 knives, Benchmades 3V had such poor heat treatment it basically killed their original bailout launch, lion steels m390 is also fairly soft in recent tests. These are only a few examples I remember reading about.
    The take away is, be very wary spending money for "high end steels." AG Russell has excellent heat treatment on their 8cr13mov. If you haven't tried one of their knives, give em a go. Particularly AG Russell's designs.

How could something well priced, or reasonably in reality, not totally suck with careless heat treat? Surprise! Kershaw's M390 and 20CV has proven about the highest HRC amidst all of the others, where 59≤ is standard, and have always hit over 60 to 61+. So maybe do another evaluation. I couldn't be more happy

    Ive owned probably 15 twosun knives so far and i love them, but my most recent is a little troubling. I just got a TS136 stingray about 2 weeks ago. I specifically bought the m390 version and its my first time using Twosuns "m390" and withing a week i was getting small spots of surface rust like i would get with their d2 models. After sharpening it and using it some im about 99% convinced its actually their d2 but labeled as m390. The rest of the knife is fantastic and perfectly executed, but im a bit annoyed that i paid extra for "m390" and i dont think thats what i got.

    Interesting. I have this and one other S90V blade from TwoSun. A lot of their other steel types have tested to be what they claim (D2, 14C28N, M390) so I kinda doubt the steel claimed is incorrect, but it's VERY possible that the heat treat for that batch (or that steel) wasn't done well. Kinda interested myself, so I just ordered some 3/8" (close to 10mm) twisted sisal rope to put my two blades to the test.

      Alrighty, I went through the cut test on my Dynamo. I got a little higher at ~300, but that might be right in line with the results from this video as mine is currently has a Worksharp 15 degree mirror edge sharpening on it rather than a KME 17 degree mirror.
      Just noticed that mine is one of the first runs, numbered 409 located on the liner-side of the flipper tab, in case that information might be useful.

    Let's put in this context: Back in 2016, CRKT - a multimillion dollar U.S. based knife company - put out a S30V exclusive with Knifecenter of their Hootenanny design. Not long after, complaints about the knife not exhibiting qualities that S30V should have were raised. Good back and Google it and look. You'll see a ton of coverage on this in BladeForums and the like. So someone eventually tested the knife steel and, lo and behold, it was NOT S30V steel. CRKT later admitted that it was, in fact, not S30V as well. Come to find out, CRKT just bought a ton of steel from a steel supplier that they trusted and... never tested it. Just ASSUMED it was good to go. Now... If a United States company that has to be beholden to U.S. laws was that lazy and uncaring... What do you expect from a Chinese company that you will NEVER get your money back from and you can NEVER sue? Frankly, I'm amazed this doesn't happen more often.

    • @dm3639
      @dm3639 4 роки тому +3

      CRKT is an "American" company that makes nearly all of their knives in China, including that hootenanny. They trusted their suppliers/maker but did not verify. That's foolish in any country but particularly in China considering their business/legal culture. There are unscrupulous business people everywhere, but Chinese courts will always side with the Chinese factories if you need to sue them. Your QA/QC must be on point if you outsource your manufacturing there.

    • @socmonki
      @socmonki 4 роки тому +2

      CRKT should have verified it. A similar thing happened with Spyderco years ago. The chinese factory said they were using 440c, and they found that it wasn't performing like 440c. Spyderco tested it and found it was in fact 8cr13mov, so they had the company change the blade markings. But CRKT is not Spyderco, and CRKT still makes mistakes and doesn't do anything about them (look at the XOC, a $750 knife, that has CTS HXP steel...yes, it is laser marked incorrectly and they never did anything about it!) Sure CRKT has some cool knife designs, but subpar quality and materials. I like my Caligo, and I got it cheap (before the prices went up) and at $30 its a decent knife. at $40 (i think thats what theyre at now?) don't even bother.

      Because (as I say in the video) I used entirely different sharpening methods. Thats why im comparing it to the mule. Same edge angle, finish, everthing. That spyderco native you are referring to was at a broader, less refined edge, using a powered worksharp belt system which applies a convex edge which testing has shown is a shorter lasting edge. I have stopped using the powered worksharp as people were suggesting (possibly accurately) that it burnt the edges too. The older worksharp 20° powered belt system convex edge tests can be compared to each other. All the tests since I’ve been doing 17° per side KME edge can be compared with each other.

    I’m don’t buy these amazon or eBay/alibaba type knives, just because you can’t trust what you’re getting. Maybe it’s s90v, maybe it’s 440a. Maybe it’s D2, but the heat treat is garbage. Also a lot of them are straight up counterfeits or derivatives, which I don’t want to support. If microtech or Benchmade went out of business, the counterfeits would rise in price overnight, but you’re not getting the quality or warranty. I know Benchmade isn’t perfect, but if you complain enough I’ll bet you if you send the knife back they’ll send you another, it’s called a warranty that covers manufacturers defects. Two sun, on the other hand, I highly doubt would do the same for normal guys like me. For newer viewers to the channel, see Pete’s China episode.

      I agree. Ganzo, etc, don't deserve your money. However I do support We/Civivi and I have an Artisan and it's a good knife. I even have a SBD Evo Typhoon preordered, made be Reate. But I refuse to buy something like a Benchmade counterfeit, or Spyderco, or ZT/Kershaw. Not only would I feel like a traitor, I would be getting a subpar knife, with absolutely no warranty support. If I break a Benchmade (of which I have a few!) or ZT/Kershaw, I send it in and they take care of me. Unfortunately Spyderco doesn't have a blade replacement program, but I still buy and use the knives because of the quality, different steels, and Sal is just an amazing human being. I also don't have to worry if I am getting the steel I paid for. These brands won't jeopardize their reputation trying to swap steels on you, and their heat treats are good to go usually. Even We and Reate are known to have good heat treats and quality materials. But all these other pop up chinese brands? No idea.

    I love some Two Sun designs, but I find they can be hit and miss. I haven't handled many, however, so I can't speak from a ton of experience.

    Might just be low hardness s90v. But I have no idea.
