I personally think that most of the Benchmade knives are a rip-off. It's insulting that they charged the amount that they do
More poor folks crying about Benchmade again . I'm sure Benchmade is just devastated. They seem to be doing fine without staying poor scrub you
@@BPF80MCar-vi1pgRight!! Love my Benchmades!! Let those people have their Civivi and their PSA rifles
I don't see them as a ripoff, there designs and styling just up aren't up to par for the money.
I MADE A MISTAKE WHEN SAYING THE KIZER TOWSER M WAS A KNIFE CENTER EXC ITS A WHITE MOUNTAIN KNIVES EXCLUSIVE, PLEASE FORGIVE ME I WILL MAKE SURE TO DO A 100 PUSHUPS AS PUNISHMENT
There you go; keeping it real again. Thanks for putting us viewers before manufacturers.
Then, this guy already said what I was gonna.
@@mattzee6287 Great minds think alike!
This video is excatly reason why i think this is one of best knife cahannels on yt. Transparent and fully honest reviews no matter what. Also your willingnes to talk about hot subjects like prices blown out of proportios, obvious shortcomings whit some knives and makers is something i really appreciate. Way to go Jared!
I love your honesty, I really depend upon people like you to help me in my purchases.
Great showing of the companies products and which ones to potentially stay away from and the reasoning behind it. Most people know about Gerber and other low quality brands like M-tech for example but when there is an inherent problem with the design itself in a more expensive brand or budget for that matter, it's good to hear about that also. Thanks for being honest as always and keeping it real. Thanks for the great vid and keep making sharp things fun and enjoyable
You're absolutely right Todd, some of these knives that they make are dangerous! Some of them could really hurt somebody or just fall apart in your hand when you really need it. Terrible quality control
TS502 is my favorite edc knife. Perfect detent for the reverse flick. Action feels/sounds amazing. Big but not too big drop point.
Good video, I have to say I stopped getting button locks for a few years they used to always develop play the nature of the lock itself means that any wear at all tends to result in play.
Great video. I bought a Bugout 535-3 with FG scales and S90V. The FG scales are very rigid and I thought it was a decent deal for premium materials at $242 from Knife Center 2 years ago. Now it is $297 when the design and tooling costs were probably paid off a long time ago.
BS. I’m
Tired of hearing inflation. They are overpriced period!
The most respect goes to you for being true to what you are when you made this channel til now. Unlike sell outs like certain youtubers cashing in on the viewers expense.
I must have lucked out with my Twosun's. All have been good and solid. I currently have 11 of them. I like them better then my Benchmade's. Just wish they offered more steel options
Yea i only have 1 but my goodness is it a work of art.
Thanks for the video, you made me realize why I don’t want a Bugout.
Benchmade in the past 2 years has really lost their minds. the price is on their knives. it's just ridiculous. now I get it when we look in there little catalog. those are retail prices. however, I was never a huge fan of the bug out to begin with. anyway, enjoy your channel. it's one of my favorite knife channels.
Yeah I thought with all these brands having success Benchmade would lower prices to compete. Boy was I wrong
Totally agree.
I think they may have gone woke!
Appreciate the honesty. It's not a good feeling when you spend money (little or a lot) on a bad product. I always trust a company with a face behind the name and you can find that now in Chinese companies more than you used to. Overall go with brands that have lived up to their reputations, spending money on the new kid on the block sometimes isn't worth the risk 🤙
As much as I love to watch videos about how dope each new knife is, almost no one gives us follow up like this to allow us to make truly informed decisions
That explains about the change in TwoSun. I remember seeing a lot of their knives on the channel before. Agreed on the Bugout. It's basically like when you ask someone what pewpew to get, they just say Glock, even if it's not the best for you. I never really liked it, personally. Good details, everything stayed above board, and you gave very reasonable reasons.
Well, at least the Glock will function properly! Can't say the same for a poorly heat-treated knife. I agree that the Glock isn't the best fit out of the box, but my first pistol purchase was a Glock despite growing up shooting my dad's 1911. I did take a Dremel to her to make her more comfortable to shoot, but the purchase was made because reliability was a factor. Can't say the same for TwoSun, especially when Kizer and Off Grid have been pretty good to me as of late...
Love you Jerad!
Benchmade definitely has issues with their pricing these days.
You hit the nail on the damn head on the Benchmade BS. You get a decent blade material and they slap on some plastic like scales with the axis lock and send it out with a $200+ pricetag on it.
I wanted to thank you for your knowledge and caring about us and viewing .many knifes for us. Iam spoiled with TwoSun knifes . I only have the the TwoSun TS16. That knife blow me away with its materials and how it felt in my hand next to the CJRB PYRITE 3.11in AR-RPM9 Bl I bought at the same time. I put CJRB Pyrite up for sale. I have bought my knifes over the years and iam 72 years old. Iam sold on TwoSun thanks for guys like you and others otherwise I would never have heard of the name TwoSun knife company. So kind Sir. Don't Quit!! Us old facts need you guys like you who are up on whats going on in this big world today. My Hat is off to you keep up the good work. Have a great day from Charles
I love the aura of this video. It gives me a one on one story time vibe.
A good job on this video my man! Gives a person something to talk about and/or consider in the knife world > 🙂
You preach good brother, I support you. When you started spine whacking that Kizer I just suddenly started thinking about the knives I just bought recently and I started sweating. I spine whacked them all like crazy and...uffff - they all passed the test :D
Thanks for calling out the issues. I feel Sitivien is stepping up their game now so maybe that might be a budget line to check out.
I appreciate that u don’t show us knives normal people can’t get. That’s just frustrating. While not exactly the same, makes me think of the Rolex Daytona (which I want but will not pay triple retail), Hermes, etc.
Your new video content style is great big dog. Finally a dude in the industry with a face instead of just floating hands.
Man, Twosun is funny.
I can't knock them though, because they make one of my all time favorite knives, the TS232. That one is classic yet modern, classy yet "everyman" blue collar, traditional yet has all the nice amenities, slicey and pokey, with great materials (14c is one of my favorite steels and they do a good job with it). Just an absolute home run on that one.
The raffir scale material is made in small quantities in Denmark, so I don't think it is the raw meterials that make the price.
Yah I started with two sun in the beginning of my knife hobby and it was nice to get higher end materials and would play the eBay game to acquire them. But I feel like once I started to get more into the hobby and was willing to spend more, there was a definite noticeable quality difference. And then I noticed they were just flooding the market with different models and how can you maintain QC with so many models. I still love my Two Sun 129. Which I think was originally a recommendation from you Jared
Glad you added the visual intro 😅
Always appreciate your honesty and watching out for us. Never even heard of the towser M. 😅
Good to know about TwoSun. I’ve been bidding on quite a few of them lately (some on your list). I hope the ones I have slowly on their way from China don’t have these issues.
And Thank You for calling out the Bugout for what it is. I handled one at a knife store a couple months ago and couldn’t believe what they were asking for it or what the big hype was about. Actually, none of the Benchmades at that store were very impressive, especially for the price. Not a fan of BM.
Kizer mini Towser K is a WMK exclusive, I had one that passed the spine whack test but traded it for the Kizer Escort, much happier with my trade
Benchmade has gotten out of control with their prices. I won’t buy them unless they drop the prices 25-30% like they should
This sounds like the company i worked for as a quality supervisor. Many companies see the quality department as non value added. From a " financial books" standpoint this is true but the result of eliminating the quality side of the equation is, Two Sun knives.
I don’t understand a company like two sun. Why instead of cranking out 100 different sku why not focus on 10 and make them amazing !!! They could then take those 10 after perfecting them can make several different variants of those. Full ti then different inlays change up ano colors on the ti. Then they can have 10 different knives that each have 10 sku but now the quality is tops the heat treat is on point and you have a solid quality knife !!
I used to like Two Sun but experienced the same issues. Benchmade used to be pretty good but have gotten stupid expensive for what you get. Thanks for your honesty about these knives. What I would suggest is, making a lemon playlist. Show the knives you're having troubles with and try to warranty them. Let viewers know what occurred and what the outcome was. If the maker stands behind their product - great. If they dont, then people should know. Don't expose yourself to liable - just state what happened with your sample size of one and if the maker would fix it.
I like your closing 💪🏻💪🏻🇺🇸
Your cjrb riff raff is most likely a lemon. Mine and every other one I've tried have all been the same. Definitely no blade play at all.
Good to know!
@NeevesKnives Thanks for all the content. It's great stuff. I always check to see if you've reviewed a knife before buying it. Cheers!
I hear ya with most of these. TwoSun's definitely got some problems, and I'm pretty sure you nailed it on the head that they don't do a prototyping phase at all. They'll accept/pay for a design, create the CAD files or use what's given to them (depending on the designer's capability) and THAT'S IT. That's why similar issues come up time and time again like pocket clip single attachment points into soft micarta, or blades that you can make contact with when closed (whether the tip or the belly of the blade). I do feel that they've improved their heat treat over the last year or two though. It's still probably 58-60 for their M390 and S90V, but that's kind of a systemic overseas issue as We, Artisan, Kizer, Reate and the Italian manufacturers all come in around there as well.
I have the full size button lock Towser K in 3V (I think that was a WMK exclusive) and it has the same lock failures. I keep it in my drawer of knives since I can't trust it to be reliable (the lock's jammed on me as well). My guess is that they'll probably make the Towser K/M's with a crossbar lock in the near future, much like they did the Sheepdog. A more reliable lock paired with a platform they're willing to experiment with, seems like a good idea.
I like my Bugout quite a bit, but I waited for the opportune time. I got the Knife Center exclusive version when they were on sale during the holidays. It has 20CV steel and grey G10 scales that don't flex, and got it for $125. Benchmade does seem to get more and more tonedeaf to the industry, materials and cost as time goes on it seems. $170 for the base model isn't worth it at all, US manufacture or no. Conversely, I got the KC exclusive Hogue Deka with G10 scales and Magnacut blade, and it's also a great knife, I just don't personally like the sharp drop off of the blade when the jimping ends as it limits where I can comfortably place my thumb when I need to bear down.
I will say, on twosun’s Instagram they do ask the people there what steel they would like on some designs so that is cool. I think they are starting to listen when it comes to steels.
we shall see, hopefully they up the hrc on some of the steels i think it would be great if they had a social media presence which i really havent seen aside from posts, meaning theres no one person that runs it that people know or have any idea about, and ive been in contact with them and its not easy
@@NeevesKnives
TwoSun doesn’t heat treat their high end steel knives, they use the steel factories heat treat plants in China for heat treatment.
And yes, customer service is sub par but that’s because the two owners of the company that barely speak English are the only people handeling the customer service.
Another excellent video...please keep up the excellent work!
I feel the same way about twosun 👍🏼 it's literally like rolling the dice
I have a great Varga story. I could not be a bigger fan. I have a MKlll and MKlV. Wanted one, could not find one for the life of me. Contacted him. He found one for me, let me pay on his site and sent it. Great guy. When the MKlV dropped I was able to get one pretty easy. Huge supporter and fan of Varga Knives.
Two Sun seemed to go downhill about the time they hit the 300 series. I'm glad to hear you call them out because I was wondering if it was just me that was seeing that. The last one I got that felt like premium quality to me was the TS301. There may very well be some good ones after that one, but I just haven't handled one.
My CJRB Riff locks up rock solid, but quite obviously yours doesn't. I can't blame you one bit for not wanting to show it on your channel. That's a damn shame. It does make me wonder. Did I get lucky and snag a one off, or did you get unlucky and snag a one off? My guess is somewhere in between those extremes, but after seeing that problem, I can't recommend it either.
My experience with cjrb has been mixed too. Poor detent, impossible to centre blades, factory dirt etc.
cant speak for the whole gerber line, but the 06 auto & the propel auto are usa made & fantastic! thank u sir
Can we get more videos like this? I feel like you can do a whole anthology series on knives to avoid; both for personal and professional reasons. We love hearing about knives that are a great buy and are highly sought after but there is a lot of stuff we should be warned against and what better than a guy who is as real as they come?!? Keep it up Jerad you are doing amazing work and the content is so damn informative i can’t say it enough!
👊
Great chat mate. Lots of lemons out there. Cheers Jaryd, hi Kara.!
Just an FYI that the CJRB J1928 RIFF that I have is just fine with no issues. Locked up solid when opened, even whacking the spine, its solid as well. 🤠👍
Agree about benchmade. Its like Apple. Huge price for brand no value. In this market there's far too many good options at all price points. Interesting titanium knives will research them. Thanks
So... why weren't these knives returned or repaired under warranty? Is the takeaway we are stuck with knives that don't work?
It’s all good Jared . You ve reccomended some bangers for me 👊
Refreshing to hear a legit critique on some of these.
Nicely said as usual Jerad. Mind you i'm pretty sure that if i had the money i'd have trouble getting your own much desired knife here in the UK at the moment. I'm sure it would be a quality knife if i could but its all only a dream for me. Please correct me if i'm wrong mabe my son who lives in the US can get me one as i really love your design but I can't find it here.
Love your videos though you are my favorite youtube man so good luck to you and your good lady wife.
Great video!
I love a straight shooter.
When I started collecting 4 years ago, their prices offered a lot of value, but after a couple years, prices seemed to skyrocket. The kinda got lazy and just started pumping out plain multicolored anodize Ti models
This is why I love your reviews
Great video guy. Appreciate the honesty Jered. Always 100%.
11:41 I think the Towser K Button Lock is a White Mountain Knives exclusive not Knife Center
wanted to tell U somethn thats better for lock stick is to use Ox-Gard anti-oxidant compound add it thin layer on both faces wit a Qtip no doubt lockstick will disappear permanently over use when OxGard disappears lock stick gone
Solid reasoning all around. I wouldn't recommend any company that both doesn't have a customer service department and is severely inconsistent like Twosun. BM has lost their damn minds with the pricing. We have a ton of options at a ton of price points so why waste time talking about anything other than the great stuff.
Thanks bro i have always been cautious about two sun
This is the video that needed to be made bro. Two Sun knives used to be somewhat alright but now, terrible.
Thanks Jerad!
I got a new granted countertop. Really liking it.
I really appreciate you sharing this
Benchmade are going nuts with the prices of every knife that they have. I don't see any person in their right mind to buy a benchmade. Absolutly out of control.
Shoot, that was an interesting one. I have the CJRB Riff and really like it. It doesn't seem to have any problems at all. You must've gotten a dud on that one. I think occasionally some of the specs must be off a little and get past inspection. I don't have an extensive collection so it makes it fun to watch your videos and I truly value your opinions and knowledge. Keep it up. 👍👍
Thanks for the heads up
I can’ believe you won’t show Divo Knives anymore cause Kev pants’d you at Blade Show
were not talking about that
What happened with Kevin?
I hope twosun makes a comeback. It seems possible but I won't hold my breath. The Ts129 is one of my favorite knives, I liked my m390/carbon fiber one so much for I also got the D2/micarta one. On mine even the heat treats seem good.
It’s kind of like the Urban EDC F5.5. I absolutely love that knife, it has almost every attribute you could want in a premium EDC knife. I have one in black G-10 with the black coated blade, so the whole knife is blacked out. I mean it has nested titanium liners, M390 blade, amazingly executed finger choil, titanium hardware, and an awesome detent. The problem is that you can almost never find the damn thing in stock, except for the jade model, which nobody wants. So I stopped recommending it to my other knife nerd friends because you can’t hardly buy one. When they do get some of the desirable models in stock they are literally gone so fast that you have to almost be standing on the computer to get it in the cart. I actually recommend it to couple of guys and after several months they weren’t able to get one. I felt so bad that I started perusing the site on the daily hoping I could find a good model in stock. I had already decided that if I found one I was literally going to buy it and gift it to them because I just felt bad by that point. So I don’t recommend them anymore and to me that’s just a shame!!
Thanks Man Appreciate Your Opinion 😊
I would have to Agree 😢
I have the kizer towser 3v button lock, and I haven't checked the fail button lock yet. Thx for pointing that out.
Hey, how did the test go? Mine failed unfortunately...
I absolutely love my TS301, but that access to the lock bar is atrocious, and the pocket clip is pretty bad
VBR has a pre-order going now
Great vid bro, this is why i fuck with you. I've watched your vids long enough now that i knew what you were gonna say about twosun and varga hahahaha
I believe the mini towser k button lock was a white mountain knives exclusive not knifecenter but I don't think they're making it anymore anyways .
Reminds me of my Rockwall. Deadass
On a good note, I have the cjrb riff and it’s awesome. You must have a lemon
funny thing that instead of a Bugout i bought two Escorts and gave one to my brother. for the same price.
Bang
I just re subscribed to your channel. I unsubscribed because of somethings that were not necessarily bad but went against my own grain. However, this video won me over. I will overlook those things I nit picked and remember that you give us info without pulling your punches. Good for you!
I really appreciate what your saying and completely agree 👍!! Keep it Real!!
While I agree that the price markup is too much, as someone who's recently starting making custom knife scales, Raffir products are definitely more expensive than micarta and similar in price to the higher end carbon fibers
I'm glad you mentioned about benchmade knives. It's way overpriced of what you're getting. Not only that, but benchmade hasn't been doing a good job lately of their axis lock. I've own a few of them and when I move the blade around, I can feel something moving on the inside. Almost like they didn't tighten the screws very well. And I've only used it for cutting cardboard and thick plastic bags. Thats pretty much it. But yeah, I've stopped buying benchmade knives.
Blades close to the scale edge when closed has been a long-term issue with TwoSun. QC issues seem more recent. As far as face, you're right. Do they even have an English website? On the Towser, did you contact Kizer? On their Raffir, the Gemini is running S35VN and I think I got it on sale. It's not like Timascus, or Spyderco's upcharge for G10...
Great video Jared thank you!
We really need more reviews like this across the board to help keep an eye out on brands that have really dropped the ball in the quality control department.
I couldn’t agree with you more on the Benchmade Bugout it astounds me how overpriced that knife is, to me it’s just a rip off for what you get and don’t get me wrong I have a Benchmade Presidio 2 and I love it but the Bugout no thanks I’ll save my money and buy a Viper Turn!
Thanks again Jared great channel!👍
The irony here is that my CJRB Riff has no detent lash but my steel pyrite does all other cjrb button locks I have are fine no issue so I think it comes down. To some QC misses that happen every now and then..the titanium pyrite that just came in is rock solid though
I have a lot of respect for the way you handle this. One thing I can’t stand is a knife channel who says every knife they show is top notch, perfect build quality, and worth the money. It’s like a slap in the face for the person who spends their hard earned money. This is something I’ve been talking about for months now. Much respect.👊🫡
Thank you for this video 👍
The hands down worst knife I've ever purchased was an Emerson Sheepdog limited edition in S35VN. Total garbage. Came out of the box with grit in the bearings, the lock would stick, and other times just completely fail with less than 5lbs pressure. The blade was off center. Sent it in to Emerson and over a month later I got it back and it still wasn't fixed. They've lost my business forever.
I like Kizer knives. Haven't had any issues so far with them.
Cold Steel has pretty much fallen from grace.
Benchmade, as you said, way overpriced for what you get, even with industry discounts.
Spyderco is always good and way overpriced.
Like my Hogue Deka knives just fine. No problems.
I also scored a limited edition Penguin knife in M390 with titanium scales. Beautiful fit and function.
Our CJRB knives have all been fine so far.
I finally came across a guy, Mark Johnson of Vulcan Knives, and started designing my own custom knives that he was always happy to produce for me in any steel I wanted. He basically recreated my failed Emerson and I have carried his knives long and hard with no issues.
I just recently won some TwoSun knives. I had never owned one before so it made me curious about the brand. I was surprised to find they don't even have a website. They seem to have the manufacturing capabilities but not much business presence. No face, no website, no attempt to be reviewed, etc. It is really hard to find model numbers and other information on a knife they made 3 years ago. With so many Chinese Knife makers embracing the EDC community, TwoSun seems stuck in the past.
16:15 My Rockwall. Exactly
Great video as always..
Isn't every Benchmade from the last 12 months overpriced?
I will never buy another. Shame really.
Well done Jerad, I appreciate your honesty. There are a lot of knife brands out there that were at one time in the spotlight that have, for one reason or another, gone to hell. I've been a collector for nearly 50 years now and have watched these trends. I saw Buck go from a good company based in El Cajon California to China and now they are back in the USA for the most part. I'm not saying that Chinese knives are bad but some are. And that brings a certain unease but the same can be said for some US made knives. Anyway, thanks for the video.
Your keeping it 100 the good and the bad 👌
Wasn’t the Kizer Towser M button lock a White Mountain exclusive not Knife Center?
yea i misspoke
@@NeevesKnives no problem. I can’t believe I remember that. The ugly brown chocolate scales made it memorable. I was so interested in this knife but not the ugly scales
Thanks bro
Varga Knives is doing another run soon of the VBR. Two sizes this time, 3.25 and a 3.7 in blade!
Good infos, THX.
My cjrb riff has plenty if detent play. Yet non if my 4 other cjrb button lock knives are near perfect.
