I've never once taken the scales off any benchmades I own to clean it.
Take the pivot out, slide the blade and washers out. Clean them.
Dab of oil on one side of blade, stick washer to it, slide that back in the frame, then with a little flat head from your screwdriver kit, push the second washer into place.
Slightly hold the axis bar to relieve tension, Take another random bit and shove it through the pivot hole to align the washers and blade.
Jam pivot screw back in. Dab of oil down the side to washer. Flip it open/closed a few times.
    Done.

Seems like a legit nice knife.
In addition to the rubber band, you could put a soldering iron tip on the screw to help break it down with heat. Oh before that. Do the tap trick. Put the bit on screw and give it some taps to break the loctite.

@@christopherskipp1525 not per se, but its essential function, yes, is to secure screws within the receiving threads. Great review as always.
I’m loving my Benchmade “super” freek.
Love the blade shape , the high flat grind and CPM-M4 is my favorite folding knife steel.
The sculpted G-10 handle feels great, offers a secure and versatile grip and looks good.
The knife is lightweight, strong, ergonomic and overall just a great performer.
As far as Benchmade go, it ranks up there with my Knives Ship Free , exclusive 908 stryker in M4/carbon fiber,
    550-1 griptilian and 581 barrage M390/aluminum bolster/G-10 models.
    A great knife!

My Super Freek (purchased directly from the Benchmade factory store) has no coating where the washers and lock bar contact the blade so it opens and closes as smooth as any bearing pivot knife with zero blade play. Also, with axis lock knives there is no need to remove the scale screws. You only need to remove the pivot bolt and slide the blade and washers out.

12:09 The 'versaflex' actually feels great in hand, and it doesn't really hinder getting it in and out of the pocket as much as some reviewers suggest (compare it to cutting with a coated blade🤔). My only gripe with it is that it's softness makes it more vulnerable to damage and even denim will wear it down in the long run.
But I'm sure if you live in the States you could then send it in and have the scales replaced at a very reasonable price.
Personally I wish the Super Freek came with S90V. I don't care much for coated blades.

The silhouette of the freek blade is dang near identical to the Buck Vanguard 192. Having the same belly towards the end of the blade makes this a great folder knife for skinning game. I also have the north-fork from Benchmade's hunt series of knives, and i think the super freek is a better skinning blade. Coincidentally, the axis-lock action on the super freek and on the north fork are the best-feeling actions on large and small axis lock knives, respectively.
Compared to the Ritter (Hogue) i carry the m390 ritter if i expect rain/risk of water, or the super freek if in anticipate use on wood (e.g., trimming branches in the yard, etc.)
You compared this to the PM2, and while it isn't a terrible comparison, I think the Manix 2 is a better point of comparison, given the similar lock styles and the slightly stronger tip on the manix. The spyderco knives have poor geometry for cleaning game compared to the freek, because really only the very tip of the knife gets utilized on the pointy geometry of the sypderco tip.
I've been trying to sample every super blade steel in a consistent form. this has resulted in a collection of Manix 2's in everything from 52100 to maxemet (and everything in between), with a few PM2's to fill in the blanks (i.e., k390 and 10v). If benchmade could release a g10 freek in all of their steel offerings, I would get every one. I think the freek blade shape would better utilize "super steels" than the Spyderco blades, given the better belly near the tip for skinning game and tip strength for light batoning. I'm thinking benchmade's s90v would have great wear resistance that could deal with abrasive hides during skinning and (properly hardened) 3v could turn the superfreek into a folder survival knife.

A blade test should be slicing 1” Manila, or hemp rope. That would be more impressive to me.
