- The Grunts have always been some light coming relief in Halo, but what if I told you their history was a chain of sad event after sad event? Well, today, after much demand, we're going to be looking at the depressing history of the Grunts in this Halo lore in the utmost detail possible - covering their origin as a species, their ascent, descent and the infamous Unggoy Rebellion!

@Bruce Bee In Halo CE legendary pretty much any enemies are a viable threat. Especially since grunts and jackals can rapid fire their plasma pistols. On their own they are easy to deal with but when you are taking on Elites (one or multiple) on Legendary or LASO your attention is focused on the biggest threat so grunts or jackals can flank/sneak around sometimes and just finish you off at the worst times. Especially on LASO where elites are mobile tanky grenade throwing champions.

You forgot to mention that most grunts that you fight in the covenant are actually children since the prophets used mass production of the grunts to their advantage. It also explains why the grunts you fight are very idiotic and ‘child like’. This knowledge made me feel so bad when mowing down grunts.
Grunts have a much faster life cycle, so the combatants are not children, but they are generally young

I know this comment is old but if you've read Contact Harvest, it's obvious how bad a grunt in a bloodthirsty frenzy can be (They can rip apart a human like tissue paper), so imagine the poor fools getting bum rushed by hundreds of thousands of likely millions of Grunts in a vengeful frenzy

Imagine if Humanity had joined the Covenant. It would've been an unstoppable force. I even think in a few books there were Elites who questioned why they fought humanity so mercilessly when Humanity had fought with such skill and honor in battle.

There should be an achievement in MCC, 5 and Infinite that occurs after sparing the lives of a sizable amount of Grunts.
I’d have that like 6 times over by now. There is one for Two Betrayals called ‘Look out for the Little Guys’, where you don’t kill any on legendary, but I don’t know if Flood killing them counts against it.

Yapyap is my absolute favorite named covenant or banished character I remember reading I think two books where he played a role in it one of them had him saving an elite and working with him he's my favorite operator in Halo Wars 2

That's all very sad, but let's not forget that Grunts, along with Jackals and Brutes, had a habit of eating human civilians on the colonies the Covenant invaded. Not to mention the genocide they helped happen. If they're fighting for the Covenant, I can't possibly show them mercy.

To be fair grunts are often killed if they don't carry out orders not to mention they usually eat the civilian after the other forces finished eating them and if they do it on the battlefield they will literally choke to death(they can't breath oxygen). In a sense they never eat them alive.
I doubt all grunts were like "YEAH, HUMAN GENOCIDE YUm YUM" Some were likely enlisted and joined the battle with no deeper concept then "I'll try not to die" In which case was following orders.

I had no idea that Grunt lore went so deep. I've always loved the little guys, they were my favorite when I was a kid. I would love a video explaining the different ranks and why the Grunts have different colored armor and what they mean!

If I recall, in one of the books a trooper talks about how a full captured squad gets ripped apart and eaten by grunts and jackals.
Yep it was halo fall of reach i think . Also in halo Fall of reach John 117 recalls how a large group of civilians were rounded up and riped and eaten by the Kig-Yar and Grunts .

I'm not subscribed to the pattern or anything by any means. But let me tell you that explaining the lore makes it so much better to run through them, thank you Hidden.
A group of shielded grunts with needlers are a force. Sometimes they even have those plasma pistols that shoot black holes
I mean, yeah it's sad but all I can imagine is a grunt saying
"This is fine"

When Grunts say "Fred, no" or "He was my best friend" I have to get rid of them but still kinda makes me sad on the inside in till they kill me and laugh at me then I don't feel bad for them
