About me: I initially had a clothing company that tanked. However, that experience taught how incredibly expensive it is to outsource your content creation. This prompted me to learn everything I could about photo and video. Shooting video and photo was the aspect of the business I enjoyed the most, so I made the tough decision to focus on those disciplines. Just like you, I’m still learning but I still want to share my experience with you because I love watching videos basically anything related to film photography and video. I hope you’ve taken something useful from watching my channel. It’s been proven that subscribers to my channel are 47% happier than non-subscribers. Food for thought.
Happy Shooting, Zain
2 weeks ago I told my Uncle about my love for film photography and he quietly stood up, walked to the garage, and came back with this *for me* :D
So excited
Great content man! PLEASE keep em coming
Your uncle is a legend. That's such a good camera to get haha. Hope you're a subscriber now, buddy!
lucky you!
thats awesome !
same story here: I asked about my dads film camera and he came back with Ricoh kr10x and Minolta x700(sadly the Minolta one seems to have some problem that need to fix though :(
The Minolta X700 will ALWAYS be my favorite 35mm SLR! I was so upset that my copy ended up crapping itself 😭
Haha. Why haven’t you bought another one whilst they’re still affordable?
Zain Riza weeeelll, funny thing is... I did LOLOL And that copy ended up crapping out after a week so I ended up giving up:( one of these days I’ll buy another one!
my retrograde jeeez that’s awful haha. I saw you’ve got the Canon FD 50mm f1.4. I’ve been thinking about getting that lens for a while now. Have you got any shots with it anywhere?
@@ZainRiza Right?? Hahaha Shoot, I would say my Instagram BUT I'm not sure which photos I've used the 50mm 1.4 specifically.. I would 100% recommend getting one tho! One of my favorite lenses to use haha
my retrograde ok cool haha
1) The problem with your shatter is that one of the curtains is stalling. However, being an cloth shutter, that should be fixable I guess.
2) A stands for autoexposure, P stands for program mode. Program mode is when both shutter and aperture automatically determine the right exposure (in which case you should set the aperture on your lens to A or highest number). One thing less to worry about, if you are into it.
3) Minolta X-700 is not the first Minolta camera with autoexposure by far. Just take a look at all Minolta camera models like XG, XM and XE series from 70's...
4) As far as I know Minolta had that autoexposure capability before Canon. On the other hand you're right, Canon A-1 is the closest contender to Minolta X-700...
Thank you for all of that! Very much appreciated, Tomislav. I definitely need to get this camera serviced.
We're in full lock down in South Africa for the next three weeks, so honestly, I look forward to your twice weekly uploads. Another great video! Thanks for providing content in this freaking weird time we're all going through😊
Thank you Melisse. That means a lot! I'm going to do my best to keep to the schedule.
just gotten a X-700 a few months back, its amazing! solid photos, some photos are coming out shaky so im working on that but brilliant camera all round. Also amazing videos mate!
Sounds great! It's a great little camera. Glad you enjoyed the video and hope you're a subscriber now :)
@@ZainRiza Yup for sure man!
So basically those black half frames are common with Minolta’s and old SLR’s in general if they’re failing to sync the shutter properly when shooting at 1/1000s. Simply keen it to 1/500s or close your aperture instead, or buy a small threaded variable ND from like GOBE. My Minolta XD7 had the exact same problem until I recognised the issue! Similarly my Canon 1N has the same problem but when shooting at 1/8000 instead 🤷🏽♂️ hope that helps!
That's massively helpful, Robbie. Thank you! Luckily I already have a variable ND from Gobe haha. That's so gutting that it happens at 1/8000th! That's probably the best feature of the modern canon SLRs.
I bought a mint X-700 after watching your video. Great camera, as you said Far superior to a Canon AE-1 because of the aperture priority mode. Unfortunately, as I'm becoming older, I have some issues to get image in focus 😄. I ended up using the Minolta MD lenses I have on my X-T2 with Vevia emulation. Produces nice vintage look pictures indeed!
Vintage lenses with Fuji sensors is a killer combo. Glad you're enjoying the X-700. I still need to fix mine 😝
X-700 was one of my favorite cameras ever and I regret selling it 😩
Your camera seems to have a shutter curtain problem maybe one of the previous owners, hopefully not Ed paves, accidentally touched the curtain
Yeah that’s what I was thinking. I checked the shutter curtain but everything looks fine. Yeah will have to send it for servicing for sure.
haha bro, youre everywhere
One look and I'm like, oh no. He's pretty.
haha thanks I guess.
There is three factors for me to choose cameras and lenses, the sound the workflow/feel and the colour(both exterior and image produced)
This camera does not personally pass my "feel"category, but it is a great camera i can not deny
Yep, if it doesn't make you feel anything, no matter how good the camera is, it's not the one for you.
Could you make a video on servicing? Where you get it done, how much it costs, how to do it...
Ooh ok yep. That sounds like a good idea!
@@ZainRiza Thanks!
All of my photos come out blurry . Not really sure if I should buy another one and it ends up the same
Could be something wrong with your meter. Try shooting in manual and just use a fast enough shutter speed.
@@ZainRiza I did this today and my photos came out perfect.
Nita haha nice one
The x-700 is my main SLR at the moment. With the autowinder, it's amazing. I think I might switch to the Nikon f4 soon though. I just want some sort of autofocus feature and access to the Nikon ecosystem of lenses.
Mine came with the autowinder. Used it a bit before I sold it. If you're just looking for autofocus, have you considered the cheaper autofocus SLRs? Like the one Mac Shoots Film uses?
@@ZainRiza the F100? No, I might need to look into it. Regardless, given my declining vision I defiently need it. I work with alot of models and I hate awkwardly sitting there trying to hit a good focus.
Great video mate. Just subscribed. Looking forward to more film goodness. Hope you feel better soon.
Much appreciated, Brendan! This video was at the beginning of lockdown. I think I'm feeling a bit better now haha
Just got one to start film photography, can’t wait to try it
Amazing choice. You're going to love it.
Those "half frame" shots are due to "lazy" shutter mechanism. Course that camera is at least 30 years old. Could it be fixed I don't know, but given it's a classic Leica cloth type shutter mechanism there's a high hope...
I don't think I'll fix this camera any time soon. I just don't pick it up enough, like my A1 and OM1. Maybe if that SkillShare money ever comes hahaha *prays skillshare sees this comment*
@@ZainRiza 🤣
Program mode is really "fully auto". The camera picks aperture and shutter speed. The user only has to focus and press the button. To use it, you put the dial on P them place the lens of f22 (notice 22 is green also) and slide the little button to green.
Ahhhh ok thanks for that. Hope you're a subscriber now, Mike!
@@ZainRiza I am. You have a good little channel, man. Keep it up
Program mode basically turns the camera to a point and shoot
thank you!
I am thinking whether to buy canon A1 or minolta x700. Can't really decide...
I'd get the Canon A1, but I'm biased. You won't regret buying either tbh.
It's a question not of the camera but which lenses you need or you use.
For example i won't leave my excellent Rokkor Zoom 35-70/3.5 macro.
However Canon built some excellent lenses too.
You have so many gears! Show them off next video!
I have already. My film camera collection video.
I have one also. It’s a great camera
Agreed!
Looks .nice
Thanks man!
I just subscribed to your channel this week. I'm currently in that hungry phase with film cameras. I typically shoot digital (you can check out my site and www.zealandphotography.com) I just started shooting film a couple of weeks ago and I've already acquired several film cameras including the Minolta X-700, Maxxum 7000, Canon A-1, Canon AE-1 Program and the Nikon F-3. Shooting with all of them and sending in film to make sure they all work. I'm also setting up a home studio so I can still create content during this pandemic. Thank you so much for posting so often! I've watched all of your videos and will continue to do so.
Thank you Lindsay! That means a lot. I will keep posting haha. Jeez that's some collection already. I'd advise to maybe not buy anymore cameras just because your maintenance costs could be really high, should any of them need repair work haha. I'm interested as to why you got both the A1 and the AE1?
Zain Riza You are so welcome! Well, I knew I was going to gift one to a friend who is also just getting into film photography. But I wanted to test out both the AE -1 and the A-1 to see which one I liked better LOL! So I think I’m going to keep the A-1 and give the AE-1 to my friend.
Mantap
terima kasih
@@ZainRiza selalu pengen punya kamera ini dari dulu, selama ini pake canon terus pengen ganti sistem hahaha
Shit build quality. Srt series is more reliable
Hmm didn't know that.
Purchased three SRT's in the last months. All of them suffer from faulty shutters or light meters. Beside of this they are very heavy cameras.
Then i got a X 700 and it works very fine in all details ! Very comfortable viewfinder and handling.
