    MInolta X-700 is the first camera i had bought for me during my art college days from my late father. It's in very pristine condition till today and i will never sell it as it has a lot of sentimental value.

    The X-700 is one of my all-time favorite cameras as well! Beautiful 80's design with just the right balance of plastic and metal in its construction, and I wish I could have known in time to buy one of the last brand-new examples before it was discontinued after its amazing 20ish year run.

    My parents bought me an X-700 in 1987 when I was taking a photography class in High School. When I went away to college, it got lost. Just found one today at a local camera shot, and I'm really excited to shoot with it again!

    I'm a total Minolta guy when it comes to film: I shot my first pics with my mother's Minolta 7000 and stayed with Minolta's film cameras ever since.

    Subscribed! Love the X-700. Have 4 of them, all bought between 25-40 Eur including lenses (28-85mm MD, 50mm 1:1.7). Two pristine examples, almost new from the box amongst this bunch. They are on display now. The roughest looking X-700 is now in use for street photography with, yes, the 50mm 1:1.7. Also have 2 X-500's (very good too, more rare) and my starter, a X-300, purchased in 1987. Still in occasional use. Yes. I love Minoltas!

    I really love the x700. Got into photography with this thing.
    I never really had problems with the built-in lightmeter. It work great, also on slide film but maybe I was just lucky haha.
    I really recommend this camera to everybody who wants to start with analog photography!!!

    woot i love my x-570 it always feels right in the hand. It never fails to do the job. the viewfinder is beautiful too. the glass for them is still "cheap" comparatively speaking. I personally stopped using the x-700 in favor of the x-570 as i didn't like the program mode. you should try the X-570 it may not seem like the little changes would matter but it makes the tool so much easier to use.

    I also like the x700/x500 very much. Who prefers to shoot more in manual mode I recommend the X500 (x570). The leds in the viewfinder are offering a more complete view over the exposure 😉

    I think the short throw/sensibility with the focus ring is common with wide angle lenses. I had a Zeiss 28mm f2.8 C/Y and it had the same "problem".

    Thank you so much for your walk-arounds, it's great to see how you shoot and line your shots up. I was shooting with a Bronica SQ-a for a few years but it died a very traumatic death and it's been about two years since I've been able to pick up another camera. But I found an X-700 with a few lenses for around $160 and I'm excited to get some film for it. It looks great with the low light 28mm.

    great camera, i can recommend it too ! Very comfortable, very beautiful black SLR, very good Rokkor lenses.
    When it comes to wide angle lenses, i can recommend the small and quick Rokkor 35mmf2.8.
    The Rokkors 28mm are nice too ( much more better than the Hoya ), you should choose a later f2.8 or f3.5 Rokkor .

    Another wonderful video Eduardo! Personally I dig the red tones the shadows fell into. I know what you mean about going from a short throw on the rangefinder back to a long focus throw on the slr. I have the voigtlander 35 skopar on the m2 which is literally a 2 inch or less span of movement from closest focus to infinity. Even jumping from that to the Nikkor 50/1.4 I have for the camera is difficult to adjust to. Your shots turned out great though despite battling the lens. Keep up the great work!

    Hey Edwardo. I've noticed that you seem to have pretty good luck with people not being bothered by your camera. Is that a Londoner thing? People in Boston seem to be put off by someone simply having a camera in their hands, which I've noticed seems not to be the case in NYC and LA (and maybe London if your videos are any indication). Such an odd thing. Thanks for another great shoot film episode!

      Sam M People in California are put off by the sight of a camera. I was out last week taking photos with my dslr, and I was getting told that I should ask first before taking pictures by a number of people. What's funny is that I wasn't even taking photos of people only landscapes. I just called it a day and went home.

  • @RareBrink
    @RareBrink 7 років тому

    The x700 specifically has a problem with the meter where, nowadays, they tend to underexpose. The glue they used to attach the metering cells yellows with age. This causes less light to make it to the meter and it will generally miss by a stop or two. I was given one of these that had literally never been opened and it suffered from this issue. Though, not all x700 seem to suffer from this issue, it might have something to do with how much sun exposure the glue gets or something. You can avoid this problem altogether by purchasing the x570 instead. Its the same camera but often goes for less money for w/e reason. I picked one up on shopgoodwill for $40 with a 50mm f1.7 on it.

    • @cosminovidiumunteanu
      @cosminovidiumunteanu 7 років тому

      Float if less light gets "hitting" the light meter then the camera "would think" it is darker and tend to compensate by choosing a longer exposure time. This would lead to overexposure.

    Your approach to street photography reminds me almost of how Cartier Bresson does it. Swift and stealthy. Always looking and processing the scene for a photo opportunity. You dress as they dress to blend in well with the surroundings. Cartier Bresson loves to hide his camera as he's walking but he's always looking.

    What are your thoughts on the Minolta SRT202? Are you a fan of fully mechanical camera (with exception to the light meter)?
    I know it probably isn't the best for street shooting but I have been using it around town and what not and I love it.

      I haven't tried it yet, but I'm sure it will be the same as all the other SLRs I've tried, after all, I only use full manual. :)

    Me gustaron las fotos, el color y hasta el grano, lo único que no me gusta es esa gente que siempre esta con el móvil en la mano, odio las fotos de gente mirando el móvil, pronto será casi imposible hacer una foto callejera donde no se vea un móvil, saludos.

    hi! I'm deciding between the Minolita X-700 and the Canon AE-1 program. They Minolta would cost me 138USD including shipping and it comes with the case, the manual, the batteries and the lens. The Canon AE-1 however would cost me 155 USD and it'll just come with camera and batteries which is more than I can ask for. I am not sure if I should just go for the cheaper one (Minolta) and I'd love to hear anyone's two cents on these 2 cameras. Thank you!!

      The X-700 is my favorite SLR so I would go for that one. :)
