One thing crowbcat should have done was right before he showed all the cut content he should have showed Capcom's tweet that said "Nothing has been cut in the remake we have only added".
The dialogue "downgrade" definitely was to avoid twitter rage threads. Apparently terminally online tweets are too much to handle for multi million dollar companies. Lmao. The dialogues were fine, but not as sharp of silly, which was one of the charms of OG RE4. It's so... serious in the remake.
Meanwhile, here we are, the ones that enjoy both games and knows the negative points and positive points of both games and lives happy with them, because at the end of the day, is just a fucking videogame.
@@WhirlingMusic I think it‘s more about aknowledging each others views. People have legitimate reason to hate the remake. People have legitimate reason to like the Remake. When people start to make up lies and demonize their opposing views, then things blow up. It‘s hard to make out if someone is being genuine, mislead or actively malicious. Everyone is capable of that no matter what opinion they have. Here though? Personally believe Crowbcat more, slapping on "it‘s cherry picked/biased/edited" sounds sus. No matter what ya do, someone‘s gonna hate ya for it. :/ I‘m strongly on the side of the OG and do hate the Remake for being unfaithfull/censored/yada yada yada. I don’t wanna suck the fun out of others and don’t pretend the OG is objectively perfect or anything. It‘s a form of Art, Art is subjective. I just started playing the OG for the first time yesterday, but know the story/characters for a while now, these games are centerstones of gaming and Internet history at this point. Personally just have a big appreciation for first time experiences being as close to the original as possible in general. Someone who plays the Remake first will have no idea what people are on about calling it "trash", it‘s because it‘s a remake, of course it‘ll be compared to the original and accordingly judged. There are people who like both, be it cus they take value in each ones different aspects, or cus they just had a good time. What I don‘t like however is generalizing and alienating the OG fans for their views. Both sides can be petty af, but more often than not I hear "old good, new bad" slapped on people to shut em up, and there are sadly lot‘s people mindlessly exaggerating the Remake just to p*ss people off. Sorry for this long ass rant.
Seriously, no one is gonna comment about all the unnecessary yellow paint everywhere in the game? Is the thing that annoys me the most on the remake, even the red barrels have yellow paint
I do miss the original inventory menu. Having Leon make a unique stance with respectfully unique animations for each equipped weapon was a really nice touch. I always liked seeing Leon passive aggressively tossing the egg when equipped.
@@chrispeng5502 too minimalist. Just compare the intricate medievalesque hud of AGE OF EMPIRES 2 with the modern minimalistic one of AOE 4. Night and day.
3:44 Crowbcat was also trying to show that in the original, Leon kills what appears to be a hostile Spaniard "It's not a zombie"- the plagas are saved for a big scary reveal in a later chapter.
Tbf I feel the beginning of the games changes were intentional, they wanted to surprise players of the original in the same way that there were deliberate design changes in the remake of the first RE
@@yaboil7774 I think so too. I'd prefer first-time players get to experience the build-up/reveal like in the original, but I get both ways have their benefits.
I agree the original makes less sense. Leon basically for all he knows just murdered somebody in their own home. Leon also not knowing a lick of Spanish in the original is also really silly. Still, I find this to be a better introduction because it’s not trying to throw a lot at the player immediately, and it gives the player more room to learn the game mechanics. The remake just tries to be spooky and doesn’t really care much about acclimating the player.
I knew Gman was fake /v/ after his Shadow Warrior 3 review where he wouldn't even touch on the race swapped voice actor and basically gaslit anyone who did care.
I also recommand @TheElectricUnderground 's video about RE4 as well, he focuses more on the gameplay mechanics and why he thinks the remake is a huge downgrade from the original
I'll give it a watch but in all honesty I smell bullshit. The two games are incredibly similar in combat, you can just move freely and also move+aim in the remake. I get some people prefer the OG's combat to the remake's, hell I still really enjoy the OG's combat to this day, and I can also get preferring the OG's to the point of being a bit disappointed in the remake's. However, to call the remake's combat a "massive downgrade" is pure hyperbole, no two ways about it.
Almost none of y'all got what the OP meant in his comment. The OG RE4 did indeed have older gameplay mechanics but what ElectricUnderground masterfully points out is that the old mechanics existed ans evolved from the previous entries FOR A REASON and were built with a specific purpose in mind - the tension. And thats something that comes only from a delicate balance. The new mechanics make it too easy and drop the tension so the devs had to amp up the enemy attributes like speed and rush and dodge etc. to compensate. But with nary a thought put into how it affects the balance. Newer isn't always better. Worth a watch as long as your bullshit smelling nostrils and prejudiced presumptions don't color your objective thinking ability 🫡
The internet has a weird obsession with not having normal conversations where you listen, understand and disagree but instead turn everything into a series of “gotcha” moments
If your gonna make a blunt statement… you have to at least prove your points and explain why. Crowbcat’s video I disagree with but at least respect him for forming his own subjective taste and opinion. I just hate the fact that we need either bootlickers on either side without forming your own opinion
Crowbcat's content used to reflect the general census for a game, mostly in his videos on obvious total disasters like Andromeda, Ouya, Lawbreakers, etc. He attracted the hivemind by going for easy targets (still entertaining, don't get me wrong) and now he gets a taste of what happens when you piss on a hypetrain. It's like a mortal insult for some people if you aren't on board with the current thing (positive or negative), even when it's really just an opinion about a video game.
I think its actually going back to his roots in terms of his content. Yeah for a while there he just covered the absolute shitstorms that everyone agreed on but if you check his older videos a lot of them weren't the "popular consensus opinion" or anything it's just fanboyism was less rabid back then for whatever reason. His top critique videos: Shitting on the Nintendo Switch at launch Shitting on Ubisoft as a whole Pointing out ways in which GTA 4 was better than 5 to spite 5 being almost universally praised Then theres Andromeda and Cyberpunk which fall into the shitstorm category Shitting on Watch Dogs even though it was fairly well received at launch Pointing out TF2 downgrades Shitting on BF1 for being buggy (another very well liked game) Pointing out ways in which Far Cry 2 was better than 5 even though 5 was well received. The list goes on. He was never purely a "lmao look at the trash fire guys!", for a while there he covered quite a few trash fires but most of his videos were aimed at fairly well received games and in some cases loved games like GTA 5, TF2 and BF1.
i think the issue is that for some reason people watch his videos as if he is making some amazing point and they agree with the point being made but didnt agree this time, so they are mad.
I would be really surprised if Crowbcat didn't realize this video would cause backlash. I mean its pretty obvious considering how shill culture is nowadays. None the less I respect that he made the video.
I think to hate on something just because people you don't like, like it is rather bad. Plus, it's always a thing to keep in mind that both of those men are cashing checks from these videos. So of course it's a plus to be controversial, both demographics are gonna be watching here, those who liked it and want to defend it, and those who don't.... making the paycheck thicc It's too good an opportunity to resist when you have no principles, and you want that sweet sweet dough. This game surpasses the OG IMHO because they started off with a strong basis and they stuck to the OG game. RE4R is a polished diamond as some have suggested. OG is still great, but that was more of a diamond in the rough situation and IT SHOWS when you play the new one. If you like your childhood or are nostalgic for a time period, it's okay... I get it. But I am not going to downplay the work of an entire team who clearly loves the source material and managed to do it justice in the remake because some people are nostalgic, and to hate on something popular is an instant cash grab. It's not fair, and frankly despicable. Plus, pulling a Kardashian in 2023 by creating controversy? Sure will make you money fast, but in the long run, I don't see it paying off.
The moment that sticks out to me the most is when Leon falls down the trap door, instead of a cool grappling hook backflip b movie move, he just catches a random chain
@@BoleDaPole I'm fine with a gritty realistic resident evil but that should be done in a new game. Watering down the charm and unique flavour of re4 to be realistic is one of the biggest copouts. Some of the changes are just so boring, generic, and forgettable, compared to the style of the original. It amazes me how many people shilled for the remake throwing away the charm of the original. Re4 isn't some serious, prestige narrative, it's a fucking B movie 80s action flick, campy, spooky videogame. The remake should have embraced its roots instead of being ashamed of the weirdness and cheese.
@@BoleDaPole I can suspend my disbelief, if I’m having to do that the whole game though, it takes out of it, it might not for you and that’s ok but everyone has their preferences with gaming, I got my 60$ worth
@@lordphill807 RE was never "realistic" and "serious" series. RE aimed to capture the B movie horror genre. I mean... just look at the over the top ridiculousness that happens in first 3 games. When I thought they can't go more over the top than Nemesis, I get 4.
This whole situation reinforced to me how borderline illiterate a lot of people are, at least on UA-cam. I made two comments about this controversy, one on Crowbcat's video and another on the video he linked to regarding the audio thing. Both times I got more comments debating a point I never made and completely misinterpreting what I wrote than people understanding what I actually said.
TRUE! So many UA-cam replies are clearly from stupid people. I've lost count of the times I've replied "Go back and read the words I actually wrote, then think really hard and try again."
My biggest issue with RE4 remake is it’s not the same Leon in both games in the original Leon is confident and in charge of pretty much every situation he’s in where I’m this new one he still seems like a rookie like in RE2. One thing I thought Crowb was pointing out in the Krauser scenes was actually how Krauser treats Leon as such by calling him a rookie while in the original Krauser calls him things like Comrade and how they both know where they come from things that show he acknowledges Leon as a equal to a extent.
Its because. Leon in Re4R is continueing from RE2R, where he is atill feeling the effects of surviving Raccoon City and having failed to save anyone there, or even make a difference. His relationship with Krauser is now a mentor student relationship while OG RE4 they were actual comrades who went on the mission Operation Javier, so they were equals. I think it falls under personal taste and to be frank, I think this was a crwative change to turn Krauser from absolute evil to a symphathetic villain, I think because Krauser was cool in 4 and they then brought him back as a main playable character in Darkside Chronicles, they probably wanted him to be less of a dick
Best part of the comment section was about sound and how they fixated only that. Its few minutes in the whole video, but that was all people "talked" about. And even that was about how Crowbcat sabotaged sound of Remake or something.
People would rather find some fault to disregard the entire thing, then find something where they can disagree and have a reasonable discussion. It just comes off like they agree, and are finding any excuse to pretend not to.
When the video first dropped people were actually discussing the comparisons and sharing their opinions. That didn't last long before getting derailed by the twitter gang.
He didn't need to say anything you clown. The title and clips said it all. Dude is delusional, calling a great remake soulless. Soulles swas RE3 remake. RE2 and 4 were amazing. Dude just says anything to be a contrarian.
I'm so tired of people internalizing the products they consume as part of their identity. Someone criticizing something you like doesn't mean they're criticizing you directly, nor does liking something that isn't perfect make you a garbage human being. I like the Senran Kagura series. Is it great? Absolutely not. Is it coomer bait? It absolutely is. Do I get mad when people criticize it? No - it's just a game, it isn't me, and people are entitled to their own tastes and well-reasoned opinions when it comes to media or anything else. That being said, if you leave the Senran Kagura games exposed prominently on a shelf in your home, they make for an excellent shittest when you bring a girl over.
I like the SK series too, but it’s an ecchi series first and everything else second (which is why I like it). It’s too bad Sony and Marvelous went woke and killed the series (my advice is to not buy any future product, Marvelous is crazy right now). I agree, my life improved a lot when I stopped being a “gamer” and grounded myself in my local sphere/religion instead of materialism. I think if I still held “my personality is my games” as king, I’d be way more irritating. I feel for the new gaming generation for sure, I think they’re caught in that trap.
That's really at the core of most of these entertainment related topics: "I LIKE IT THEREFORE ITS GOOD AND ANYONE WHO DISAGREES IS ATTACKING ME PERSONALLY" meanwhile sane people can easily go "I like it to spite its flaws, oh you're criticizing it? fair, has plenty of flaws". You don't need to rate your favorite things 10/10s because they're you're favorite, obviously nobody can be completely objective but everyone should strive to be as objective as POSSIBLE not the "well you can't be 100% objective therefore everything is 100% subjective, therefore my favorite game/show is a 10/10 and you cant tell me otherwise!".
The most heartbreaking thing for me personally was that I never got to say some of my famous one-liners again like “your right hand comes off?” Or who could forget about “Sadler, your small time.” If I have a pair of sunglasses on me, I would’ve put them on right there in that moment.
He put the word "Soulless" in the title. And if you watched CrowbCat's videos. That's literally the channel's brand of critique. Letting the video speaks for themselves. CrowbCat's video on Cyberpunk 2077 still holds up. That game deserves all the ridicule it get. But calling RE4 remake "Soulless"? I disagree with that. A lot of effort was put into the remake and the VA for Leon is clearly passionate about his role as Leon. And the whole remake is an amazing game in itself. The devs expanded a lot on it. Krauser has become one of my favorite characters now. So no. RE4 remake is not a soulless game. Whatever that supposed to mean.
"Hey, this new Resident Evil 4 Remake which has 97% Positive reviews out of tens of thousands of people on Steam has no soul. Wait...why are people mad?" -Crowbcat probably
Just a reminder that Gmanlives was given free tickets to quakecon 2018, and conveniently, when fallout 76 launched in november that year, he was one of the few youtube reviewers that saw nothing wrong with the gameplay and design changes 76 had, his only safe critique being about the bugs. Needles to say, even his audience roasted him for that, but the point is, almost every big yt reviewer can be bought with free stuff by game devs. Other examples are the positive reviews for the launch version of cyberpunk by Yongyea and Alanah Pierce, she herself even being in the game as an unkillable npc, and both of them played a preview version before launch and still gave it good reviews
To be fair, preview versions are mostly just a mission long, maybe showcasing different routes you can take for games like cyberpunk, and usually they polish these sections up as as they can. If this is all they based their review on i can see why it might be positive, although you should only talk about your first impressions if all you saw is a preview like that but seemingly the whole gaming community thought this game will be the second coming back then. If they had the full game before they dropped the review then there is no excuse.
this is exactly why IGN gives 7/10 reviews for mediocre games that should have been rated 4/10 because they don't want to piss off the people that feed them.. the reviewer never gives the score, the score 100% comes from above.
@@brotbrotsen1100 That's kind of the point. If journalists are given review builds and given a pinky promise everything will be fine on launch, they gamble their credibility by backing a full product with a score they could not possibly have issued by playing a cut version.

8:35 I'm very glad you noticed this. Yes the cinematography is worse. That include the Krauser QTE scene which was one of the coolest moment in the game and they didn't need to change it, it could have been shot in the same way first and then you start the new boss fight
wonder if capcom intentionally didn't show the boss mutations as an example either because they were pressed for time and couldn't finish it in time. Or you didn't feel like doing it because why? everyone buys the remake anyway, whether they're in it or not, 99% of the players won't notice or miss it anyway and if they do, they've already bought the game anyway. I don't know if it was that bad in Re2 and Re3 remake, but I think it was scaled down there too. Why is the question. Can't you make it look good or is it too much work?
This! I loved that QT moment just for how well it was edited and put together. The original RE4 was a masterpiece and I don't say that lightly or use it often, but it was one of the few games -- along with JA2 and the original X-Com trilogy -- that I replayed countless times, unlocking everything possible, from the extra outfits to the Tommy Gun and the new modes and characters. I loved that game so much.
I find it funny that everybody loved Crowbcat when he harped on Turtle Rock and 343 and EA, but the second he touched Capcom they suddenly get up in arms about it. It's like all Japanese games companies share the same Nintendo cult-like following where anybody who criticizes them is treated like a Communist sympathizer during the 1950's, even if the company does something genuinely shitty. I fully understand why you made your video about how "gamers" are the ones really killing gaming.
I don't think it's just Japanese companies that get this treatment. Not too long ago CDPR had this level of cult following where any critique against them was considered blasphemy. There are just certain companies that are above criticism to the common gamer. Unless Capcom screws up like CDPR did with Cyberpunk, don't expect them to ever receive as much negative attention. It will take for something truly big to shatter people's image of the company.
Japanese devs really do get a pass on basically anything, like all Fromsoftware games basically being the exact same thing (and just boring in my opinion) and having technical issues on every game release that they never fix but you're not allowed to point that out because fromsoftware can do no wrong.
He changed it back Edit: what’s wild to me is seeing people shit on the OG game when they didn’t even play it or we’re alive to experience it. Your cash grab remake wouldn’t even exist without the OG RE4. Hell the damn game popularized 3rd person action games. It was a freaking trend setter.

@@ToastyCubes @RVR-01 "Gauntlet" This got me curious, as I enjoyed Bayo 3 (story sucks, but gameplay is fun). Especially as someone that played both 1 and 2 when they came to Wii U. So I decided to check out his review and why, in terms of gameplay, he doesn't like it... Well it looks like you got your wish, because I'm going to refute some of his critiques, with timestamps from his review. After watching his "review" several times and looking closely, it's quite clear he didn't even beat it. In fact, I didn't even think about checking until now, but his "review" released literally ONE DAY after the game released, and there's no mention of getting an early review copy (legally have to disclose). So when he mentions at 7:47 fighting the same 5 enemies “at least for the first 2 hours” he really means it. This dude only played 2 hours and made a whole "review" out of that. What a lying hack. The game has flaws, and a lot of modern games suck, but strictly saying you dislike a modern game doesn't make you reliable or accurate, but that's the angle he's trying to grift people with. "Don't worry, I'm not like other reviewers." Synthetic Man actually streams his games so you can tell he's played it, but he also tells you how much he's played and _shows_ later scenes along with being very explicit about his critques. Mark just mentions surface-level criticisms (histun, ranged vs. close combat, non-combat sections) and repeats ad nauseum. He tries to make comparisons to other games but shows absolutely random footage without explaining the actual differences. Heck, he didn't even play past at most Chapter 3 out of 14. Not even half the game, lol. There's no footage past that point (the only other demon you see is the spider... introduced in chapter 2), he only uses the default weapon (4 guns) and demon (Madama Butterfly) and later mentions at 7:47 about fighting the same 5 enemies “at least for the first 2 hours”. Along with some of his critiques being wrong or can be fixed if he played further or unlocked moves for even the default weapon. He didn't even talk about Viola, the new playable character... because you don't unlock her until Chapter 5. Granted she's barely in the game comparatively, but it's still a few hours of content worth mentioning since she plays quite differently. Especially when these games are all about replay value, and you can at least play side-missions as her (not proper chapters where Bayo was playable though). It's worth remembering that just because someone claims they're "anti-mainstream" doesn't actually mean they're honest. They could be, but they still have to _prove_ it. Saying so doesn't make them trustworthy by default. And if you do, it's no different than people thinking IGN or Gamespot is trustworthy simply because they're "professional" viewers that have to follow rules. I'll split my critiques into two sections, "Meta" which is stuff outside the game like development and "Nintendo's influences", and then the actual game/"review" itself. --- Meta Commentary Critiques --- He claims Nintendo is making it less sexy, but Iwata told Kamiya the Zelda costume in Bayo 2 should show cleavage bc being sexy is her thing. Current Nintendo CEO is a businessman and leaves up the art to the artists. The days of Tharja's butt being covered in FE: Awakening are long gone. Also, Xenoblade has sexy designs. Same with Fatal Frame, she can be in a bikini and get her clothes wet, lol. This game has gone through development hell. Lost a lead left mid-development and they scrapped an open world concept. _That_ is going to have an effect on the game. You’d think if he loved the series so much he would’ve at least been aware of the troubled development. He also never mentioned Bayo 2. How can you talk about the downfall of a series you supposedly love, but skipped out on one? It came to Switch 4 years before Bayo 3, so there’s no excuse.
@@ToastyCubes UA-cam keeps deleting my comment (doesn’t even have bad language). I did make a Google doc with a comment that scrolls down to the review critiques, but I’ll try to summarize here (Google Docs: 18kcIAIRgMlr3so-yn7OI8a-bPY389Sk5J0qQcEITGoo/edit?usp=sharing). A very very short summary is he complains about things that aren’t actually problems. Like “only 5 enemies in the first 2 hours” in a 15 hour game, with side content and optional bosses, lol. Or that a jump uppercut is an overpowered move because it locks enemies in the air… by showing it on the basic enemy. Then he uses it for virtually every other enemy and boss, which doesn’t work and isn’t even a good choice to rack up damage. This is because you have to unlock individual moves and he clearly didn’t. Which is why he complains about ranged combat being the “focus”. It’s not. He just didn’t use other weapons or unlock options for the default one because he barely played the game and didn’t even check the menus. Controlling d3mons isn’t even mandatory for combat (although useful for breaking a few shields). Plus it’s limited time and leaves you open to attack, AND if they’re hurt too much they’ll attack you. You can’t use them all the time and it’s not even a good choice. He doesn’t know what he’s talking about and he expects people to truth him solely because he says review sites are untrustworthy. Not by actually proving he’s worth trusting. I will avoid his content and I suggest you pay very close attention, if not leave. He’s playing the “I’m not like other reviewers” card without actually proving himself because it’s an easy way to build a niche. Makes viewers feel like they’re getting the “real” opinions which could be just as or more biased/corrupt.
11:16 I'm pretty sure crowbcat was saying the atmosphere and execution/dialog was MUCH cooler in the original. I mean, if you play the remake, Krauser puts his knife on Leons neck and doesn't kiII him. Only talks to him. While in the original, the entire time Krauser is trying his best to kiII Leon. Only responding to Leon to distract him and AFTER delivering an attack.
I agree wholeheartedly, the dialogue and voice acting in the original was just better overall. I think he was using the Krauser Knife scene to compare not just the dialogue, but also the quality of the voice actors.

You’re in the minority, the remake is a blistering success heralded as a fantastic game to the masses and casuals. Corny campy humour and weird Japanese ideas don’t fit into that mainstream. The game is designed and marketed to western audiences. It’s really not hard to understand, it makes perfect financial sense.
@@phalanx8437 it reminds me that games are getting bigger and more boring. they may have a giant map but it feels so fcking empty. games who are taking more risk but more short are better than the stuff we get nowadays. i want my corny campy weird ass japanese humor back.
Crowbcat was in the right. People just cannot fathom facts about a medium if they like it. It’s happening with movies, games, whatever you name it. Star Wars was not on a good path, but when you stated this people would just lose it. Look how it ended up. Recency bias is a thing, but I realize people are more likely to like something if everyone else says they like it.
It's a cascading effect. Developers both rely too much on dynamic lighting now (as opposed to baked lighting) and they also don't texture assets in a way which helps the environments pop. Similar to waveforms, if you were to look at a color graph of a modern game there is more visual noise but less variation of it. Crash Bandicoot 4 is a very notable example of this, lush colorful environments which appear darker and soulless because the engine and textures are not suited for the art direction.
@@ToastyCubes Oh good, someone else who sees it. I'm tired of the new lighting that makes shadows or anything more than 20 feet from a light pitch-fucking-black, especially with a washed-out palette that also makes it difficult to see shit. Real life doesn't look like that, and real lights don't work like that. Dynamic lighting is more realistic in a tech demo, in theory, but the overall result is often not.
I think there's something to be said about people's bias towards certain companies and how much they refuse to ever criticize them no matter what. Capcom and Sony are clear examples of this. Your point about critiquing good games is also one that should be taken into consideration by many. Since people often view critiques as "bashing" or "hating" on a game when that's not always the case. Sometimes critiques can come from a place of love. The problem is that the gaming community acts like a hivemind and there are certain games that said hivemind will never allow you to critique without facing a large backlash. I will say though, Crowbcat is at fault too since his video title is clearly meant to ruffle people up, which he did considering how many of the big UA-camrs like Skill Up, GmanLives, and Sphere Hunter responded to it. Had he named it "Resident Evil 4 Original vs Remake comparison" he probably wouldn't have gotten nearly as much negative attention as he did.
There's a difference between fair, constructive critique and dramatic ranting like claiming "soul vs soulless". You can actually come to that same conclusion with a more fair presentation/concise arguments and people would be more receptive to it. Also funny how the moment you may respectfully disagree with Crowbcat's points or way of framing those points and even back it up with reason, a whole defense squad comes at you to whiteknight with some good old ad hominems and strawmanning as well.
@@islandboy9381 I agree, which is why I don't like his RE4 video. And from the way he doubled down, it's pretty clear that the video was meant to enrage people more so than offer a fair critique. The again, Crowbcat did build his entire persona on bashing modern games, and the moment he did one positive video he got called a shill by his own fanbase.
I love RE4 original and remake, but also think Crowbcat has a point. Modern remakes have this tendency on completely taking away the humor and walking on eggshells to not piss off certain crowds. I'm glad someone that big called them out on it.
Act Man has also been sperging out pretty hard at people criticizing the remake. He's made posts on Twitter saying that if you like Ashley's panty shots in the OG game then you don't belong in the gaming community. Good on ya Synth, that “toxic positivity” is a good term. I don’t believe in the common “toxicity” definition, but I’ve definitely seen enough times that only affirming people has hurt them in the long run. Gmanlives started to hang out with the “intellectual video game” crowd and fell off pretty fast. I think he actually used to oppose some of their viewpoints but he’s tied too much to them now, so he won’t go against the grain. I think your and Crowbcat’s videos were really helpful in determining that the Remake just isn’t for me. I love the B movie cheese, and the toning down/streamlining of the narrative is a bit too much. I acknowledge the Remake is probably a 7/10 or 8/10, but I much prefer the original package. I think the OG is still going to age better, especially with things like the HD Project mod. That’s just my two cents, thanks for making all the RE videos, since I loved the series from 5 up to the R3make.
Oh no youtuber has a different opinion about the game he must be a shill you guys are stupid also all of the cut stuff for the most part is because it wouldn't fit with the game more serious tone.
Yeah, Gman used to be relatively based back in the 2014 - 2015 era. Then again, so were a lot of people. It's honestly pathetic how neutered both UA-cam and it's users have become.
@@jondon1079 yeah he made a mistake but crowbcat did cherry pick with the gore by only putting the death animations that are better in the original like why didn't he pick the scene by the regular villagers because in the remake they aren't leon just screaming auuuuuu and dying there is an actual animation of an axe going in his head or the gnadaos stomping on his head until it explodes.
@Yoshismasher I agree and I've noticed the same with Gman Lives' movie counterpart, Critical Drinker. I used to be subbed to both of them, and I know Synthetic Man hates both of them, but it's only recently that I've started to realize Synthetic Man was right and not just "being a hater" or negative for no reason. I don't pay attention to their social media or what they do off their man channel, so I noticed Gman Lives being a douchebag to critical comments in his own video for RE4make, including my own. And I've started seeing Critical Drinker show up in guest appearances in other channels I'm subbed to, where he basically implies his whole channel is all an act (not just him "playing a character," which we already know, but his actual opinions on things, too. The Critical Drinker and his opinions are 100% separate from the man himself.) So yeah, both are basically fake and misrepresent themselves for popularity.
One thing to remember with the audio is the "original" audio could be coming from GameCube or maybe PC. It was also mastered in probably a 5.1 format or possibly just stereo. The "remake" has lots of different audio settings and a lot of them are... Not great in RE engine. They had to master it for tvs, stereo, 5.1, 7.1, binaural and whatever the format for Atmos is like 7.4.1 or something. Not excusing capcoms terrible mixing, but who knows what audio settings the people recording are using. The dynamic range on G-man lives content could've been on "low" and crowbcats could've been on "wide".
UA-cam in general is TERRIBLE for audiophiles because the audio is rarely ever presented in anything but typical stereo. Having 4K video is as easy as rendering it as such, but doing something as simple for 5.1 is obfuscated by the website since not every content creator is into that sort of thing. Most people just listen to stuff on here through headphones.

I 100% agree with crowbcats video he is the only one who has the same issues as I did. I couldn't find anyone else that pointed out how bad they messed up the lighting/environments . Completely killed the game for me. That's what made the original RE4 so unique. Thank you so much for making a video about this.
Normies don't have any grasp or capabilities for real criticism, specially when comes up to the subtlety. Capcom fucking murdered the rich palette of Ochre colours on the original game, made the level design claustrophobic and less spacious, and added obnoxious clutter that only ruins visual composition. Yet Crowbcat alone and no one else bothered to show the real appreciation for better aesthetics and visual design.
You prefer filters, an obnoxious and unnaturally dark environment, and stupid fog popping out of nowhere? Im sorry, but i stick to the original asthetics, wich have a lot more visual clarity despite the limitations in hardware of it's time.

@@Usernameblank9891 actually the original is the one with unnatural lighting because when it is night it isn't supposed to be that clear to see without sources of light also the original is way too easy and less tactical than the remake which is lame .
My issue with the sanitisation of the dialogue is how it completely changes the character dynamics. Leon in the original game sounded like an experienced professional the whole way through and he commanded a sort of complete sympathetic authority over Ashley that you would expect from someone in that field. In the remake he sounds like a teenager rescuing his sister and with the exact same story I just couldn't buy the dynamic anymore. There's this sort of hesitance to portray her as weak and defenceless when she still is and that's a problem a lot of these woke, sanitised remakes have faced. The narcissistic writers want to correct the mistakes of the past yet also profit off its name, so the skeleton of the story is left intact but there's these surgical changes that have been insidiously made that makes it incongruous with the story it's telling. They have no confidence that a creation of their own would sell so they need to leech off a beloved property.
Although I don’t agree with the rage bait/trolling, I respect crob cats views because I’ve noticed there’s no safe place to have views that don’t resonate with the mainstream views on re4 remake. The re community hates you if you don’t like RE4R. I like the remake, but it’s far from perfect. Like people want to act like the game is without flaws/ and that isn’t true
Gmanlives is superbly reddit. Even before he got super big, he's never had a controversial opinion in his life. All of his videos are supremely optimized for the algorithm/engagement. Show me an old video of his where he doesn't repeat the same 3 points over and over to hit that UA-cam-approved 10 minute mark. That combined with spewing catchphrases, shilling merch and discord... yuck. Funny how he lambasts Crowbcat when he looks at a easy target and says "how can I drive clicks my way?"
The vast majority of people are no longer able to form their own opinions. They require other people to form an opinion, then they either agree and copy it, or disagree and try to silence it. This is why things like this happen and people get so bent out of shape at content creators when that creator suddenly holds an opinion that they disagree with. People need to stop thinking that any one person is going to hold the "correct" opinion 100% of the time.
I actually agree with Crowbcat on Krauser. That fight cutscene was really entertaining to watch in the original, it made Krauser look and feel like a total BA and his voice actor was FAR superior to the new Krauser that sounds like a guy with a normal voice trying to force himself to talk deep.
I don't feel that it was Jim Ward''s (Captain Qwark) best performance (I think the issue was direction) but it's a damn sight better than what we got here. It's a shame he has dementia now.
Somehow I just knew Synthman would have something to say about this little incident lol. I was pleasantly surprised to see Crowbcat release a video like this, I'm not sure I've ever seen him post a video that goes against the mainstream opinion like this.
I think they did a good job with the remake but I do think they stripped out some of the charm and fun to appeal to “modern audiences”, which is probably what Crowbcat was trying to show Either way, I absolutely love the amount of attention each of Crowbcats videos gets, its like everyone stops everything to see what he has to show haha
I also have another issue that probably puts me into the minority, but I am not really a fan of this photorealistic looks they force on their new games. Casting models and scanning faces. The game looses its charm way to quickly. The older Capcom games each of them no matter RE, DMC or whatever had a distinct art style that I enjoy to this very day when I boot some of their games. Each has an unique style that aged like a fine wine and only adds to the charm. On the VA note, I would add Krauser too. While he was not as bad as Ada, he paled compared to the original VA.
Interesting, as someone who doesn't care and planning on playing at a discount, I don't find adas voice that bad. Every opposing perspective doesn't have to boil down to hyper consumerism..
@Desire Less I can at least see what Krauser was going for. The unhinged sociopath type. Ada at one point loses her place reading her script and it's painful listening to people defend what's objectively bad.

@Desire Less Same here. I found myself smiling a couple of times and enjoying myself as well. The game was good, no doubt. Though I was hoping for more banter between the villains and Leon.
I really don't like the people who say "that's was trash in the original". Carried by the euphoria of the popular success of this remake they believe that anything is better than the original. It just not, i could list hundreds of things that suck in this remake. starting from the cut contents, the music, to reuse of assets, the interiors of the castle is the same of the interiors of the Pueblo houses, wet brown bricks everywere.
Yeah it's just blatant bandwagoning. It would be one thing if people's opinions on OG RE4 slowly changed over time as game design paradigms shifted. But that's not what happened. RE4 was the best game ever made a month ago and now it's not because the remake came out. Somehow despite having a completely reworked gameplay loop and different direction/style it's just magically better at everything the OG did.

Deja Vu. When did we let the scientoIogists take over gaming? You can't even lightly criticize an obvious cult without the whole internet flipping tables over it.
Crowbcat was absolutely right. RE4 Remake is just like Unreal Engine 5, as is one of the greatest tech achievements in gaming, both lack and fall in the pit of mediocrity, they lack art of passion and recognition in the long term. Art is what keeps the game alive, sound is what keeps the game tattooed on your memory, and RE4 Remake missed the mark on that. Anyone can do good graphics nowdays, even the indie developers, it's the core feel that the game gives you what lasts forever. I hope we get past the "Remake phase" of gaming soon, GTA SA broke it for me 2 years ago, and now this. I am not saying that RE4 is bad, it's just that they don't appreciate what developers did back then, it wasn't just a technical limitation to put fog on, but a manifestation of spirit of the game as well.
ok buddy does that excuse crowb chagning his title twice in the face of people disagreeing with him, and then deleting, no shit, every single comment mentioning the title change, on top of whatever accusations he has for manipulating footage. He titles the video soul vs soulless and then in the description says "come up with your own conclusions". Its not his opinion that pisses people off, its how he handled people disagreeing with him.
Fair play for sticking up for another creators review, even though you don't fully agree. Critique is always a good thing. That is to say, constructive criticism. It baffles me that people take others opinions to heart so strongly. But that's the internet, I guess.
I commented on a RE4 trailer repost by some youtuber I mentioned along the lines of the game might have updated graphics but the atmosphere of the original was something honestly creepy and the glowing eyes of the ganados when you came back to the village at night with ashley. the church & graveyard was something truly remarkable. then I got bombarded in the comments saying I'm just clouded with nostalgia 💀💀
Crowbcats always been a back peddler. I still remember when he made a positive vid on a vr game he liked (sprint vector) and deleted it cause people called him a shill
To be fair Sprint Vector lost a massive amount of the population that played just like most VR games from around that time. He may have liked it, but it didn't stop it having flaws which ultimately drive the game to death.
We're witnessing the "Dark Souls 2 Effect" in real time. A game comes out (RE4 2005) and is beloved and enjoyed for hours upon hour upon hours for what it is. The flaws are acknowledge but overlooked and played around because the core game itself is so dynamic, so replayable, and so much fun. Then the shiny new product comes out and instead of enjoying it for what it is while acknowledging the timelessness of the original, we eclipse it with revisionist history. The previous version goes from "masterpiece", to "flawed", to "a product of its time", to "actually kind of sucked", to "bad", to "how did I ever allow myself to play that garbage". I believe most of us here realize that products are a substitution for personality nowadays. You want your consoomer habits to reflect what you want people to think of you. New is good. New is "fixed". New is best. Like with most subjects nowadays, deviation from popular opinion is the highest treason. It means you think to much. It means you can understand when something is bad for you. It means you threaten the status quo. You mark my words. We're watching, in real time, RE4 2005 become the new Dark Souls 2. Within a year you will have the average "gamer" ranting about how it was an awful game, up Leon's ass constantly, Ashley was unbearable, the guns sucked, not enough freedom, etc. You'll see every minor complaint used as a cudgel to revise history about a beloved title from a better time. All it will take is some well known internet personality to make the right video or post the right tweet to mold popular opinion overnight. The Elves and their lies, my friend. The Elves and their lies.
I disagree...in time the OG will only age better because it has the more top tier cinematography, charm, direction & style. The way it did these things is timeless. In 20 yrs...remake will be forgotten while the OG is still talked about & remembered more fondly. Its happenning now. Re4make isnt being talked about even, ppl have moved now that the recency hype has died down
4:00 I believe you are missing the point. In Crowbcat edit it clearly shows us leons reaction "not a zombie" just a regular dude. In the remake, the first thing you shoot is not a "normal" ganados, is a zombie ganados. That removes A LOT from the tone and the uncomfortable feeling that you are killing civilians, its just a monster now.
Thank you reminding us what a balanced, fair-minded opinion looks like; I appreciate the way you agree with Crowbcat with some topics while also talking about what he could/should have done differently. In an age of one-sided polarization, we need more of this.
I agree with him. The remake is good (around 7/10 as you said) but the original still is better. That's it. The amount of people who believed he changed the title for a while because he genuinely changed his mind because of the backlash was mindblowing.. This is how most people "think" now. We're fucked.
So many people nowadays do not understand humour, sarcasm, edgy, snarky, witty. The reason for this is censorship and being banned when talking to people with mics. People are such pussies now

My actual problem with the video was not his oppinion, but the way he presented it (also him cherry picking clips and tampering with audio, that didn't help)
The thing that makes Crowbcat really good is that he ,without words, can get the point across quickly. His clip selection is purposeful and really well edited. His videos on Back 4 Blood and Halo 5 are phenomenal examples. All this RE4 remake video did was play two clips side by side and poisoned the well with Soul vs Soulless. What are we meant to see to seperate the two? Don't know. It's fine to like the older graphics but considering how thorough his older videos are, this is just confusing.
He decided to release a video at a different time from his. A time where men are advocated to wear dresses and diapers and not be expected to be labeled as a pdfile.

I have to disagree with the Krauser critique, I liked the original better even though it was a QTE because it was fast and sudden. The remake's boss fight feels slow and kind of mundane, even though it should have way more replayability than a cutscene.
Honestly I feel like his biggest critique should have been how soulless most of the dialogue is rather than the game as a whole not saying that the remake is flawless because I really don't think any game is flawless, but never the less I still really enjoyed his video and the fact that people get so bent out of shape because someone has a different opinion to most people is just telling to how far we've fallen as a society.

The new game removed so much atmosphere, from the gory backdrop to the sound design and the flashy fight cutscenes. The voice work also was worse in some cases, like Ada. They also made Leon less of a bad ass.
"who the hell would prefer a cutscene qte to a boss battle" No one but the fact that action cutscene required you to be ready to fight back was so memorable and unique at the time that every game up until 2013 copied that mechanic.
If you think about it, parrying is just a glorified QTE, especially since you can't use any other weapons in that particular fight. Although you can still speed up the fight by being agressive.
Ehh, I loved the Krauser fight in the original. That was probably the only quick-time event boss battle in any game I actually did enjoy, and mainly because they were doing the kind of John Wick stuff a decade BEFORE John Wick was a thing. The fight scene choreography during the quick-time events were super bada$$ and that's what made it stick. You also still had the traditional boss fight when Krauser turned into a t@ntacle monster, but the QTs leading up to that were awesome, just because of how well designed the fight scenes were.
I'm 50/50. I think the cinematic flair of the original far surpasses the more realistic and subdued introduction of the remake. But having actual gameplay and getting to use the parry mechanic to block a string of Krauser's attacks is cool. I wish they had combined the two, which would allow for all of the conversation to be in a cutscene, and the fight with him could be pure gameplay and you don't have to listen to the continuously repeated lines every time you die.
The way people comment on crowbcats video says all I need to know about them, from alot of them fixating on ambient audio of all things shown in the video to a guy literally saying he realizes crowbcat makes unfair comparisons all the time and he only realizes it now because it happened to something he loved which as cringe as the word cope is it fits pretty well there. I also found it pretty funny how gmanlives made fun of the way someone else typed, then goes on to say "Bruh" without a hint of irony.

The point of intro comparison is to show how the devs of the remake missed the point of the original. Its about the framing and expectations of the player. When re4 first released all the games that came before featured very obvious zombies. And now in re4 here's a man who both speaks and uses a weapon to attack Leon. When inspecting the body Leon notes "he's not a zombie...". So later in the game when you blast the head of a villager off and you see the plaga pop out its a real surprise. Meanwhile in the remake its very obvious that this villager is a zombie, he's already been killed and is resurrected, completely ruining the surprise to anyone unfamiliar with Resident evil 4.

IMO on revisiting that scene, it looks like Leon breaks into some dudes house and shoots him when he tries to use an axe to stop the home intruder.
@Megamax
The original had a lot of nonsense.
And not the good kind.

Need to check it out, thanks
I have played both and no, there's no way that the original is better than the remake SPECIALLY in the gameplay mechanics lmao
The remake has better combat than tlou
At least that
I'll give it a watch but in all honesty I smell bullshit.

His top critique videos:
Shitting on the Nintendo Switch at launch
Shitting on Ubisoft as a whole
Pointing out ways in which GTA 4 was better than 5 to spite 5 being almost universally praised
Then theres Andromeda and Cyberpunk which fall into the shitstorm category
Shitting on Watch Dogs even though it was fairly well received at launch
Pointing out TF2 downgrades
Shitting on BF1 for being buggy (another very well liked game)
Pointing out ways in which Far Cry 2 was better than 5 even though 5 was well received.
The list goes on. He was never purely a "lmao look at the trash fire guys!", for a while there he covered quite a few trash fires but most of his videos were aimed at fairly well received games and in some cases loved games like GTA 5, TF2 and BF1.
You can tell he rushed out the RE4 comparison video out

I would be really surprised if Crowbcat didn't realize this video would cause backlash. I mean its pretty obvious considering how shill culture is nowadays. None the less I respect that he made the video.
I think to hate on something just because people you don't like, like it is rather bad.
Plus, it's always a thing to keep in mind that both of those men are cashing checks from these videos. So of course it's a plus to be controversial, both demographics are gonna be watching here, those who liked it and want to defend it, and those who don't.... making the paycheck thicc
It's too good an opportunity to resist when you have no principles, and you want that sweet sweet dough.

I'm fine with a gritty realistic resident evil but that should be done in a new game.

Exactly, both sides are acting like children and it’s getting tiresome
Honestly thats most UA-cam comments. The amount of top comments that point out something that happened in the first few minutes is overwhelming.

--- Meta Commentary Critiques ---
He claims Nintendo is making it less sexy, but Iwata told Kamiya the Zelda costume in Bayo 2 should show cleavage bc being sexy is her thing.

@@anubis4695 With the current prices, you should do that for every game. More often than not, buying game asap means you are paying for being beta tester
They literally took out the line where Leon flirts with Hunnigan. No amount of shipping bait he has with Ashley in the remake will make that okay.
Why is the remake so much darker?
It's a cascading effect. Developers both rely too much on dynamic lighting now (as opposed to baked lighting) and they also don't texture assets in a way which helps the environments pop. Similar to waveforms, if you were to look at a color graph of a modern game there is more visual noise but less variation of it. Crash Bandicoot 4 is a very notable example of this, lush colorful environments which appear darker and soulless because the engine and textures are not suited for the art direction.
Looks generic, like unreal assets
@@ToastyCubes Oh good, someone else who sees it. I'm tired of the new lighting that makes shadows or anything more than 20 feet from a light pitch-fucking-black, especially with a washed-out palette that also makes it difficult to see shit. Real life doesn't look like that, and real lights don't work like that. Dynamic lighting is more realistic in a tech demo, in theory, but the overall result is often not.
"[GMan] is like in his late 30's, talking like a zoomer on twitter"
He's also married with a kid, which makes it extra embarrasing...
Valve/Steam are another blatant example.
At the end of the day these companies don't care about you just your wallet.
@Yoshismasher
I agree and I've noticed the same with Gman Lives' movie counterpart, Critical Drinker.
The Critical Drinker and his opinions are 100% separate from the man himself.)
So yeah, both are basically fake and misrepresent themselves for popularity.

Here's some solid criticism. The voice acting ain't the best. The game is hella dark and Leon doesn't take out his flashlight near enough. In Silent Hill games you can turn on your flashlight whenever you want as long as you have the batteries to do so.
Well to be fair RE was never known for its voice acting. No one expects RE games to have Last of Us quality acting.

I can actually relate to you and Crowbcat a little, suffering at the wrath of rabid fans. I dared to criticize Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild on /v/ around the release of the game and got dogpiled so hard that they made a meme out of me. I'm the reason that picture of a smug Zelda saying /v/ is crying about BotW exists. I'm the reason you can see anons comparing the game more to Assassin's Creed than any of the other Zeldas. I'm the guy who shot down that dumb opinion that BotW played exactly like the original NES Zelda. I've never had such a huge impact on that cesspool of a board than I did when I just gave my honest opinion about a decent game that I didn't like. Still blows my mind how angry some fans can get.

People have always been put off when opinion didn't fit with the majority. Just look at most religious conflicts.
@@fightingmedialounge519 I mean yeah sure, aggressive collectivism is a thing in religious history, but it's also involved in a lot of things with society in general.
Its also when you just prefer the original and remake fans all attack you and tell you "you're blinded by nostalgia" and completely disregard anything you say.
That would’ve got him canceled even harder for appreciating the “sexist dialogue” and “degrading panty shots”
@@spimpsmacker6422 yeah, I just used religion as the most obvious example.
The new game removed so much atmosphere, from the gory backdrop to the sound design and the flashy fight cutscenes. The voice work also was worse in some cases, like Ada. They also made Leon less of a bad ass.
"who the hell would prefer a cutscene qte to a boss battle"
No one but the fact that action cutscene required you to be ready to fight back was so memorable and unique at the time that every game up until 2013 copied that mechanic.
Funnily enough, a handful of comments here do prefer the QTE'S.
If you think about it, parrying is just a glorified QTE, especially since you can't use any other weapons in that particular fight. Although you can still speed up the fight by being agressive.
I love qtes
The qte offers a more scripted snd cinematic sequence. Could you have the og Krauser intro without qtes? No because it's too complex.
I agree. Giving him an actual boss fight does play better. But the QTE cutscene definitely looked better.
I actually like the Krauser qte cutscene more. Its just so stylish and the banter between Leon and Krauser is nice and concise
Problem is that you kill krauser too soon to get all the dialogue.
imagine liking qtcs

Gutwrenching gross out death animations need to make a comeback. Good deaths elevate the gameplay, atmosphere, and horror
See, it’s a double edged sword. Specifically edged. Or edgy.
On one hand, a bit of violence is fine for more... grotesque games. But sometimes it’s just plain boring or off putting in a bad way when it’s done tastelessly. That’s what a lot of gore has become these days, so I don’t trust for a minute that anyone can pull it off. Until I see it.
@@cityguard4847 what take is this? Gore definitely adds to the horror element as long as it's not cartoonish which most of the time in horror games it's not, you shouldn't have to water down violence in games cause pussies can't handle it
@@cityguard4847 It's survival horror - it's more or less mandatory for it to have some of the most twisted and creative deaths imaginable and there are certain games within the genre that borders on being "tasteless" or were so incredulously over-the-top that it becomes comical. Kinda comes with the territory.
The actual issue is managing to upset the player in the first place since everyone has become desensitized to virtual violence but personally, high-pitched tortured screaming or characters gurgling in their own blood still makes me feel nauseous.
@@cityguard4847 OG Resi 4 balanced it very well I think. There was so many ways for Leon to die and it never felt gratuitous to me. It just felt like the "severe consequences" Leon faces if he let's his guard down and it was brutal.

RE4 remake >>>>>>>>> Feces >>>>>>>> Dead Space Remake
I feel like the Dead Space remake was absolutely horrid with the motion capture for the necromorphs that made them look and sound like goofy zombies, less ominous introduction of the Marker, woke subliminal messaging, and character/story degradation.
Meanwhile in the remake its very obvious that this villager is a zombie, he's already been killed and is resurrected, completely ruining the surprise to anyone unfamiliar with Resident evil 4.
devs didnt miss shit
