Doesn't Arbitor Ian's partner do interviews with GW writers with a sub 50k channel? I don't think you need a lot of clout to get ahold of GW writers lol
Authors don't make a lot of money. They're big names in the fandoms they write for, but I doubt it's that difficult or expensive to get a hold of them for features.
“It’s all about the weird logic, stuff that kind of makes sense for half a second, but then you actually think about it and it doesn’t make sense, but the orcs don’t take that half second” is the best way to describe their whole vibe.
Just finished lelith hesperax yesterday and it's fantastic. Short but very good, doesn't surprise me he has drukhari himself because the book really shows an extensive knowledge of how a drukhari is and should act.
I really have to stop making excuses and read Head of the Hydra and Harrowmaster already. Two books about my favorite legion by my favorite Black Library author. How have I not made this a priority?
@@judeblack4360 About the same level of ear pain but Harrowmaster is worse, VERY British man trying to play a sassy woman that would normally sound ok but just ends up sounding awful. The main character is also really weird because I look at him an immediately think “Oh he’s doing to sound like Adewale from Black Flag” but it’s a more Harry Potter with a runny nose
Mike please if you’re reading this, I need a new Lion book. Son of the Forest is one of my favorite 40K books of all time and I need his storyline to be continued. You’re the only one I trust to do this, it was so incredible.
Cant wait for the Ian Watson Interview. Inquisitor draco series is easily the most quality of all the 40k books. Surpassing even fan favorites. This is not debateable.
This was super cool to see, I'm not a massive reader but I picked up Harrowmaster on a whim when it came out earlier this year and oh my god that book rules, very quickly cemented Mike Brooks as a name that jumps out on the spine of a book for me
Mike Brooks'Brutal Kunnin' is not only the reason I started reading Warhammer novels/get into the game, but started reading in general. All of his books I read so far are absolutely amazing, can't wait to finally get Da Big Dakka in the mail somewhere soon, and once I have gone through all of his Warhammer stuff I will 100% give his personal works a try too!
38:34 Highly recommend that people who care about Dark Eldar read the Path of the Dark Eldar novels by Andy Chambers, their society is really fleshed out over the series. They're still some of my favorite 40k books but unfortunately will probably never get audiobooks.
Mike do be right. I'm just a little guy who happens to play on stage next to actual rock stars. I got here by applying myself in front of the right people. Good to know that when I'm chilling back stage after a gig, and we've made a crowd dance, the authors are chilling back stage too.
literally I agree with bricky, I got into warhammer cause of you guys and the books were next and now I'm working on my first army. so the books do work.
Just starting the episode now, I want it known that I am MASSIVELY hyped for this episode. Not only was Mike Brooks the author of some of my favourite Black Library novels (Da Big Dakka, Harrowmaster and Head of the Hydra, my beloved), but Alpharius: Head of the Hydra is the reason I currently have an Alpha Legion army. Alpharius: Head of the Hydra - My Beloved.
writing for years and never finishing anything is the most writer thing ever. Have over two dozen "Novels" started and only have more than six chapters in like four stories. Life is pain.
There were a few times in the Ork books when I thought "This guy has DEFINITELY read some Pratchett!" and every so often catch myself replacing an ork or two with Discworld trolls. I'm glad to have my suspicion confirmed.
I guess I'm one of the Old Ones... Played Rogue Trader, WH Fantasy, WH Fantasy RPG - which reminds me of the pretty crazy early day ideas and rules. Blood Bowl not so much, I thought it was just stupid. It was a great time to be alive and gaming, kids...
The one piece of advice that my dad gave me years ago and has never done me wrong, whick Mike put in more words: It's not what you know, it's who you know.
Most excellent! Mike Brooks does good work, and Head of the Hydra and Son of the Forest have been my 2 go-to books this year. Still need to finish Brutul Kunnin, but I'll get there eventually. Cheers on all the good work and I hope to see more
I thought Mike was way younger than me- I remember 3rd ed coming out, so now I feel (relatively) young again. Also- I heard the saying before as "a quiet mouse doesn't get fed"... which, yeah- they kinda do.
Great interview get. Loved The Lion, liked Warboss. I am currently reading Brutal Kunnin' and still have Da Big Dakka and Lelith on my shelf. Is this episode spoiler safe or should I put it on the backburner?
2 questions, have they ever explained what is a volkite weapon and what it does? And is the imperium aware of what empowers the chaos gods? Cause a lot of the pointless death that occur throughout the imperium can literally be labeled as heresy.
holy shit the mad lads did it they have CLOUT now
They can INFLUENCE certain THINGS now
Didn't they already have the writer of the Necron books for a podcast earlier in the year as well?

This isn't the first time they've had a Author interview
Man Im now frothing at the gills for the eventual Arron Demski Bowden interview
REAL
nite lawds baby
This was quite literally one of my friends first text to me once this posted.
“It’s all about the weird logic, stuff that kind of makes sense for half a second, but then you actually think about it and it doesn’t make sense, but the orcs don’t take that half second” is the best way to describe their whole vibe.
From the snippet I read of Brutal Kunnin, I love that the Warp shenanigans in the eyes of the Orkz came from Gork and Mork to "mess with da boyz."
Good book, very fun standalone.
Well, if the Orkz believe that, it's probably true.
That is great
Also Warp shenanigans are good cause "Da boyz needed something to keep their spirits up"
I can't get over how much he sounds like a higher pitched Kirioth.
I like how towards the end it wasn't even about Mike Brooks anymore, but just an enjoyable discussion on the hobby.
Can't wait to find out if 40k writers also listen to this podcast.
I like hearing in Bricky's voice the excitement when speaking to Mike and Dk finally not feeling alone regarding being a Warhammer 40k newborn
Poorhammer gets Vince Venturella and AdRic gets Mike Brooks?! In the same WEEK?! WHAT?!
Th..the mohawkest mohawk who ever mohawked? Shiieeeet! Everything MB has written for 40K is top-notch BL stuff!
Bro when you put BL my first thought was Boys Loves and not black library. I want my warhammer romance book dammit
Mike Brooks is a miracle worker.
Lmao i had the same thought @@josephpollard5918
@@josephpollard5918 BL BL would be pretty fire ngl.
@@gokbay3057 why do you want MORE Ultramarine stuff?
yes, it's a joke.
Thanks for not putting this vid behind a paywall, love and appreciation from Aust.
Oh, boy! I didn't see THAT coming...! o.O
Cheers to you guys for making that interview a reality! :)
Really surprised that they didn’t ask about the Alpha Legion books.
Cuz the Alpha Legion didn't want it to happen 🐍🐉
Any answer would have been lies
They don't exist
This is a lie.
The replies to your comment are why I'm glad they didn't
Not sure either one of them have read the Alpha Legion books (Bricky probably read Alpharius cuz he references it a lot but not sure).
Just finished lelith hesperax yesterday and it's fantastic. Short but very good, doesn't surprise me he has drukhari himself because the book really shows an extensive knowledge of how a drukhari is and should act.
Abelard, inform Mike Brooks that I've now bought all three of his Ork Books as a result of this episode.
I would sell my soul for you guys to get Dan Abnett on the podcast.
I really have to stop making excuses and read Head of the Hydra and Harrowmaster already. Two books about my favorite legion by my favorite Black Library author. How have I not made this a priority?
It’s very good but Harrowmaster’s audiobook is ROUGH to listen to
@@watchmano1755Better, worse, or the same as the Brutal Kunnin' audiobook? It might be a good idea to pick up a physical copy if so.

Don't forget Shroud of Night! Granted it's by Andy Clark, but it's more Alpha Legion!
"i wanted people to have ftl" "non scientific bullshit go" alcubierre drive? "alcubierre drive" knew it
I mean, warping Spacetime as a means of FTL has been an absolute staple of Sci-Fi for ... how old is Star Trek at this point?
Now they need John C warhammer as a guest and they will have truly made it to the big leagues
They’ll get James Workshop himself

so happy to find a book club that reads at my pace...
2-3 months is my speed, because I have to absorb every detail
oh god, that was my old GW store.
Cant wait for the Ian Watson Interview.

Yall needed to ask more questions lmao
one month late for orktober but never too late in my heart. thanks boys
you mean Orkvember?

"We've only been doing this podcast for a bit"
Brothers I hate to break it to you but it's been almost 4 years now
Mr. Brooks is my favorite of the "new" black library authors. His works give so much depth and quality.
I love that I've found a few other people who use the 668 joke. It's a silly thing that warms my heart 😆🤘
Mike Brooks'Brutal Kunnin' is not only the reason I started reading Warhammer novels/get into the game, but started reading in general. If there was some version of those posters as shoulder patches, I would make an Ork battle jacket and finish my Ork amry to go with it! 😆
Watched the video loved Mike Brooks so much I went and bought the book DaBigDakka and I regret nothing.

Imagine if they ever get Dan Abnett on the show 👀
Or ADB
I love how crisply Bricky pronounces his T's. It's kind of adorable in a way.
CottontailVA got onto him for pronouncing her name as "Coddon" and he got self-conscious about his Californian accent 😅
But he doesn't though?
The computer game store in the department store building would probably have been Silica, who sold Amiga and such. Ah, youth.

Well done you guys for making this interesting, it wasnt that easy.

Love how Mike Brooks is a Futurama head with the Jimmy Neutron hairstyle
Mike your lelith hesperax book was gripping.
I was not expecting this to be a thing. At all.
"I don't listen to my own audio books" gives me the same vibes as "I have written more books then I have read"
Bricky got so excited when Mike said he liked the Night Lord books 😛
