Simplicity certainly as far as the notes taken across the neck, not doing wild arpeggiated runs like other guitarists from the era, BUT his bends and flow make his stuff really unique. It veers into the surreal almost reminiscent of stuff you'll hear in eastern music. Totally brilliant indeed!
@@sgt.thundercok4704 Me too! I just discovered the C add 9 chord in "Sweet Soul Sister". It's that third chord in the verse that sounds AMAZING. It goes A maj - D maj - Cadd9. He leaves his finger on the D on the B string (from the D chord), [which is the 9 (or 2)] when he changes to the C maj. Sounds amazing. It sounds more impressive on the recording because of the quality, but the chord occurs in this video at 3:49 & 3:59 I've never heard an add 9 chord in a rock song before (well, I probably have in a Queensryche or Rush song, but it's not common).
I have been a heavy metal rock fan for 50 years and love Iron Maiden, Led Zep, AC/DC and others but NOBODY plays the guitar as good as Billy. His skill and talent is phenomenal and he just hits the bulls eye on every track in this fantastic concert. ROCK ON Billy lad you are a genius.
I just want to thank the person that gave up his time and enjoyment of watching and participating in the show to FILM or TAPE the show. This person did an awesome job with the camera.
THE CULT toured AUSTRALIA in 2013. They played the entire ELECTRIC album. They played it in the track listing of the album. Then they played other 'Hit" songs. Just about everybody knew that the last song was going to be SUN KING. The atmosphere was palpable. You could say it was ELECTRIC.
I saw them at the same time, for the 1st time, in San Francisco, the 30th anniversary tour of the Sonic Temple album release. My brother was so jealous. It's his favorite band.
In Canada we had the privilege of hearing The Cult on the radio because of our friendliness with the Commonwealth. They were in-between the metal and the hair metal in the late 80's. Iain Astbury's vocals are out of this world!!!
Yeah. Love watching Duffy. From the gitaringly humble beginnings of ‘ Dream time ‘ through the simple tho’ tasteful ‘ Love ‘, the challenge of ‘Electric ‘ to the perfect synthesis of ‘Sonic Temple ‘. A. Mighty Guitar God was born from the thigh of a wolf, full strumming ! Thanks for the music.
There’s hundreds of bands I love and like and respect, etc. There are a handful of bands I put myself in the true-fan bucket and The Cult is one. Thanks to the taper
I been around the Rock scene for many years! Almost its entire history & when We saw the CULT the first time we were Blown Away! Glad they settled their differences & get on with it. As a guitarist I always admired Billy! Great Player!.
Billy is nailing it!! Awesome to see him 35 years ago and better than ever! Ian is doing well. Expected a little better but we are all getting older and I'm not near as talented as Ian is and will always be.
Damn Ian STILL does it for me!! Whewwww!!!! I've seen em 1x and fell in love all over again!!!!! Been a fan since the late 80s and will be forever!!!🤘🥰😍❤💋
I first heard the cult back in 85 when I was 12yrs old on MTV when they played a live concert in New York at the Ritz. I was a fan from then on. I still am.
The Cult is an awsome band. Great guitarist, wonderful catchy riffs and that voice of Ansbury is still as sharp as a knive. One of these voices you instantly recognize.
This band is aging real well. I was a freshman in college when Electric came out, it was a big part of our soundtrack. Great to see them still killing it.
i met these guys at the norva ..va,,great show they gave my friend and me backstage passes my friend was dying and it was his last wish to meet billy, billy talked to us for about 2hrs or more after the show,,awesome dude,,,their manager and the band..those guys are the best guys bless them all wish them only the best
The older they get the better they sound.Last saw them back in 85 on the Electric Tour in Manchester UK. Ian's voice is amazing, Billy makes it look incredibly easy, such a great guitarist.
Great band! Full style like cigarettes in your mustang and two baby’s ! Amazing voice from Ian! 80 year! The old man still alive! Don’t forget! Ok 💀👊🏻👊🏻⚔️🗡⚔️
One of my fondest memories... It was 1990, my first trip to Las Vegas, day 3 or 4, too young to gamble but already banged two cocktail waitresses and chillin at the pool drinking buds with some cool Navy boys on vacation. The dj on the radio announces that fire woman is the #1 song in the country and we cranked it up and jammed and the cult became one of my favorite bands! Damn they were the shiznit...
the Pheonix was one of my favorites for standing around a bonfire with a few cold ones and hearing that tune...just goes well with the flames cranking...
Been a Cult fan since 1987, saw them live in Ottawa 1992 with Lenny Kravitz (who rocked the shit outta the opening act, and I have been a fan of since)!! I remember Billy having problems with his monitor, and he kicked the shit out of it!..lol
Just seen them perform in Des Moines recently..Wow the energy, sound, everything was magnificent...Been to a shit ton of concerts and that one will go down as one of my favorites!!
My Fav band of all time and without doubt the most underrated band of all time, 1st heard Sanctuary (My fav song of all time) back in 1985 and have been a devoted fan ever since, seen em 3 times once in Vancouver back in 1987 in twice in 2013 in Australia, best concerts I have ever been to. Still can't understand why not in R&R Hall of Fame.
Going tonight in Moncton NB Canada........Seen them back in 86' I think In Toronto Ontario. They were kick ass then and I'm sure I won't be disappointed tonight.

Duffy’s simplicity really makes him shine. Brilliant player

I'm fairly sure he could use a two string guitar. His style of using one string and playing up and down the neck is quite unique but very effective
@@stevec6427 he could easily be in Presidents Of The USA then 👍
As a guitarist, I'm really impressed with him, having just watched two live shows this weekend; one from 1987 and one from May this year.

The Cult are not underrated. Ironically you're the one who's underrating them by saying they're underrated.
Going to rhe show in St Petersburg Fl. This will be my 14th time seeing them live. Started in San Diego, military giy,
God they are terrible…I mean the music is, the songs are terrible. They can play but my god the songs rubbish.
