This is the best Cult period. Ian was a fantastic singer, Billy played so well, they had beautiful songs, and their image was outstanding. In short, they've got all the elements required for a great rock band. Those years, the Cult were my favorite band I just couldn't help listening to them all day through.
@@hendrikheemels8615That's fair, I mean, it's your opinion. And tbh, I know what you're talking about. Dreamtime and Love are epic. I agree they were unstoppable then & a year or two after, but by the time 👁️ saw them live open up for Metallica in 1989, they were burnt out & were never able to retain that magic.
I would say that all the time period from the start to the final show of the Sonic Temple tour that they were in harmony because Jamie Stewart was the third original member and he was the glue that held the other two together

Ian's singing here, especially on the opener "Nirvana," is so good I was convinced it was lip synched until the very last note. But apparently it's totally live. Incredible, he usually takes a lot of vocal and lyrical shortcuts, especially as the years wore on, but here he's as accurate to the record as I've ever heard.
If you can find it, check out their set at the 1999 Tibetan Freedom Concert (“Tibet Concert”). One of their best live performances of She Sells Sanctuary. Too bad they played in the daytime and the crowd was lame.
Exactly. I noticed that too. He really he stretches his notes here, just like he did on the record. I kinda don't like when he does those short, stabby notes. Guess it has to do with breathing technique. Sounds way more melodic when he really holds the notes. Amazing performance!
Yeah this video is a real gem !!! I could be wrong but I believe he had caught Laryngitis on one of the early tours and it tore up his vocal chords a bit. It does seem that on his last tour he is back to giving more accurate vocals
Words cannot describe how epic this video is. Just brings back all the thrilling memories of this band that saved rock and roll from the mid to late 1980s. It also makes up for the fact that I was unable to see them live in those days. The last great hard rock band to come out of England.
Love - one of the best rock albums of all time and an apt stepping stone between Goth rock and the all out hard biker rock that characterised their next release 'Electric' but still representing something that had never been done before and remains unique all these years on. By far, this is them at my favourite point in their career but I gotta say 'Electric' is still the best AC/DC impression attempt I've ever heard and beats the likes of Airborne.
I was on tour with my own band (constantly being compared to the Cult) and I rang home to ask someone to record this (old video system) and to my amazement, for the first time in history, someone actually managed to figure out how to record it. I was gobsmacked to come home and NOT have a video of a random cricket match. Those of a certain age will get it. Great time in my life and greatest part of this band's too.
Sonic Temple is my fave of theirs. Hands down. Followed but Electric and Love. Saw the ST tour twice and twice more since. It will be five times very soon. 👍
Love bass axeman Jamie Stewart's pony tail! Actually his hair style reminds me of another axeman; Pearl (Porl) Thompson's from The Cure in the earlier years. I found it most interesting that The Cure vocalist Robert Smith song writing didn't mesh well with Thompson and probably contributed to Thompson leaving The Cure in 1994 to play with Jimmy Page and Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin during the Page and Plant tour of 1995. Pearl also played with Babacar, a band formed by Boris Williams, following his departure from the Cure. Later, Thompson formed another project called Quietly Torn. Thompson continued working with Robert Plant, joining the singer's group for the 2002 release Dreamland. Thompson joined the Cure again in June 2005. Thompson was with the band for the recording of the live DVD The Cure: Festival 2005; for the recording of the band's 13th studio album, 4:13 Dream; and for the band's 2007-2008 4Tour.

Jackie I respect ALL fans of The Cult. The LOVE album is fantastic but like the Sisters of Mercy in 1985 with First & Last & Always they had nowhere to go. Both bands and especially their guitarists - Billy Duffy, Gary Marx and Wayne Hussey - played beautiful chords that unfortunately went nowhere, I have carefully watched this video, BLISS, as well as the Sisters of Mercy - Wake: Live at the Royal Albert Hall in 1985 - with The Smiths as the support act. The Cult went fall on rock with Electric and The Sisters became The Mission with Wayne Hussey and Eldritch went synth-pop with Floodland.
NOBODY moved, or was, cooler than Ian Astbury. Not even Jim Morrison him everybody Compares him to or insist Astbury was influenced by. I think it was just a stylistic thing and he picked up on it. He couldn't help it that he was born after Morrison.

Ian nearly starred as Jim Morrison in Oliver Stones The Doors... Brilliant excellent band all round.
This is the best Cult Love video on the web. This must be directly off the original tapes.

"Love" and "Electric"...the Best time of The Cult.
Love this album - but the sound quality from Sonic Temple is amazing.
JAMIE! 🖤🖤🖤
Saw them live manchester Apollo brilliant live.
He makes me rain...
This is a real good video of the Cult playing live and nailing it
too rigged... shit. this live show is the best performance ive ever seen from them.. I saw them 4 times in the 80s,, never sounded this good.. nothing will ever compare to the love album... masterpiece forsure.... awesome,, and hes so cool
Frosted: Never have hear The Sisters (I will!!), but The Mission went nowhere. On the other hand, never have hear Ian so desafinated.
No... this was the real deal... The difference is, they were sober...
This show has a tired and weak feeling. Boring. I've been to 100s of their shows all over the world some 1987.
NOBODY moved, or was, cooler than Ian Astbury. Not even Jim Morrison him everybody Compares him to or insist Astbury was influenced by. I think it was just a stylistic thing and he picked up on it. He couldn't help it that he was born after Morrison.
