    Batik is pronounced buh•TEEK. I'm a quilter and have used batik fabrics a couple times in my quilts. It's not my personal favorite style for quilts, but I agree the fabrics are more vibrant and beautiful than typical Hawaiian shirts. Batik is often more pricey than normal cotton quilting fabric. It has a different feel (often thinner and softer, yet crisp, if that makes sense) and is usually hand-dyed, thus there are more color variations within the same bolt of fabric. This is one of the appeals for quilters who are often looking for specific color tones to create 3D effects and such.

      I came to share the pronunciation as well, but you got it handled!

    • @largelingerie
      @largelingerie 2 роки тому +1

      You can just type it in, as a “how do you pronounce…” question. Always assume Matt is all-knowing, so mistakes are few and far between! Could’ve (not really) wrung the necks of students …and a teacher… who pronounced “jaguar” as “jag-wire” in the rainforest play. That’s how I know the school year should come to an end!

    • @rachelh5211
      @rachelh5211 2 роки тому +1

      @@largelingerie I meant no disrespect to Matt. He is exceptionally articulate and knowledgable. In all fairness, I might not have known the proper pronunciation of batik if I had only seen it in print and not also heard other quilters use the word.

I’ve lucked out by finding a pair of Bruno Cucinelli pants, a Huk fishing jacket and a ScottEVest that all slipped through retail thrift--the feel of the fabric was just different and your manifesto confirmed it. Also a few “V” pieces that were sold before test ship sailed off. I don’t enjoy even looking at the women’s stuff anymore.

    Hey I just wanted to say how much I appreciate your videos. I’m 51 empty nester now and sold on eBay for 10 years for just flipping personal items but began 6 weeks ago doing this full time and I’m doing amazing even in Florida where there seems to be not a lot here for vintage. At least like there was a lot in Portland, Oregon from where we moved from in 2012. Anyway I needed to get educated on labels and quickly to not make money mistakes buying the wrong items. So I’ve been watching literally hundreds of videos learning as much as I can, till my eyes cross on some videos. But your videos are so much fun to watch because you make me laugh so often that I now put your videos on more then others so I can here your “ass” on some clothing and the line you said on a Parrott Golf shirt saying “Pick up anything that’s Golf clothing where you look stupid” Lol. Anyway thanks so much for making this work fun. :)

I found someone’s Cucinelli and Loro Piana wardrobe last winter, 4 Cucinelli cashmere sweaters each sold for me between $235-$285. Had three Loro Piana Cashmere sweaters those went for around the same price beside that roadster pull which I had, sold for about $325. The roadster pull was originally about $1.7k new.
