It's currently May 2024, but I'm about to buy a used JTM-1, so this video is very helpful. Smaller (6V6 and EL84) tube amps are my jam, and I have most of the classic sounds, but still lack a Marshall sound. After finally adding a Vox JMI AC-10 clone head to my amps, it's become a favorite played through a 12" Avatar A25 (Celestion Blue type). That cabinet with the sensitive/efficient speaker gets enough volume from the AC-10, which has an EF86 channel and 12AX7 channel, a very simple amp - I like simple. That's what attracted me to this amplifier, the JTM 1 is the one for me, because I want clean tones mostly. I just don't want to have anything go wrong with it, because I doubt if it's serviceable by me, not PTP, but supposedly well constructed boards? Thanks for the demo man, you helped me hear what it can do......cheers!
Did you end up getting a used JTM? I've always thought these amps look super cool and want one, but I do share the same concern about servicing. Wonder if anyone's ever modded them to be PTP? In any case, they seemed to be an instant classic and I could see these little amps continuing to raise in value until they're pretty rare and collectible pieces

I had the whole 1 water collection back in 2012. I had the JTM1, JMP1,JCM1, DSL1 and the JVM1. Many years later I found the perfect one , the JTM145 head from Anderton’s. Right now I only have that JMT145 and the JTMOSH. Nice video !
Budda Guedes good luck finding a csjtm145, there’s only 200 units around the world. For the rest , the jtm1 and the jvm1 were really good. I got all the head version because they were the most fun to play with.

Without a doubt, hands down, an amazing demo of these amps! The best IMHO! You make them sound awesome! I think they are both a lot of fun to play at home. I actually went crazy 🤦🏽♂️ and got 2 JTMs for my home rig... to be in stereo 😁
The JMP is so misunderstood and underrated. It's the best of the bunch with fuzz and distortion pedals it interacts with them better than the other 1 watters.
I think the reverse of you... In the way "the JMP1 is globally overrated"... And it take its place only to have something aslike "between" a JTM1 and other more modern 50th anniversary in only one : the best reason to choice it in my opinion. To have many vintage sounds the JMP1 is not able as good as a JTM1 (for Hendrix styles for example) and to have more modern possibilities the JVM1 (quite near to the JMP1 in its clean channel and more things very opposite to the JTM1/JMP1 globally if you dig in) seems to be better and more complete. The only reason (in my opinion) and a VERY GOOD one, to choose the JMP1, is : more available to good fuzz/distorsion/modern sounds compared to the JTM1 and more vintage sounds (even if less good than the JTM1 in this kind of stuff) than a JVM1 for example AND in an only one amp… In my situation, because I want the best of these kind of sounds : I prefer grandly to have both of "the JTM1 and the JVM1" than a JMP1 with any else in its side. But who usually use double amp ou double channel in the same time (except myself) to junggle these two worlds ??? If you love class A amp, and more modern stuffs (fuse/distorsion) put in the front of a class A amp (linked in serie) not in a too much vintage style, aslike hard rock or something (until heavy metal) the JMP1 can be a perfect jewel for you I believe yes… Re-amp it (by mic) in a power amp this can be huge to do rock/metal stuffs, but it’s overrated in my opinion for the guys who want to be more sound builders than anything else.
Marshall is really stupid for not making these a continued part of their catalogue! Low wattage tube amps are popular right now (along with other solutions like load boxes) to bring the volume down at home or smaller venues but still get saturated tones. The only 1 watt marshall they sell right now is the DSL-1 and the reviews are mixed. Its clean channel is so bright it's not usable.
Cool demo. Nice playing. Deraps has some nice demos also. I mean to record it with one of those interfaces that go into your PC. Marshall seems to miss the boat. I would love one if these. Remember Eddie asked Marshall if they would make him a sig amp and they said no. Complete idiots. They gave Slash one and he's nothing compared to Eddie. So dumb. Eddie is the 👑
The Les Paul & the JTM1 was way good. Sounded big, cushy, lush the bottom is so fat with depth of a much larger amp. All PU positions responded well. Nice demo playing, liked that too.
The head versions are even better IMO. I have the JMP1-h and with the right cab you can get early EVH tone with ease. Also have the JVM1-h, which although less coveted is by far the most versatile (FX Loop, resonance, emulated line out, presence, two channels with foot switch) of the 1W Anniversary amps. For home playing and recording they are fun little amps.
Hi! I got the jmp 1 watt when they first came out and played it all weekend. 2 cool features are power reduction and a boost switches. Yours sounds like the boost might be on. My jmp 1 sounds sweet!
JCM1 has the boost. Meant to be a JCM to Silver Jubilee thing. JMP1 and JTM1 only have the 1w to 1/4 w switch. I have all 5 heads... and they rock through a 2x12. Totally different amp than the 1x10 combo. But just put the combo on a cab and bypass the combo speaker. Very surprised he didn’t plug into his Mesa cab. 1 watt x 2x12 IS NOT Quiet 😀
Cool looking amps, for sure! Though, I don’t approve of Marshall sticking an over-inflated price tag on these, only because they produced a limited run of them for their anniversary. They could never sound like their big brothers and here‘s why: the output section is a double triode in push-pull configuration. The bigger ones are (parallel) push-pull pentodes. A triode can never distort like a pentode, since on a pentode, the screen grid compresses the control grid curves(bunches them up closer together ) under overdrive conditions, something a triode can obviously never do. Certainly an interesting option for collectors, but for guitarists looking for an authentic „Marshall“-sound - better look elsewhere.
I regret selling my JTM 1. I found one on Craigslist for $550. Looking back that is a crazy deal. I just had too many amps. For as good as it sounds it is less practical than my Bass Breaker 007, my preferred grab and go amp for many situations. I let it go for a similarly good deal at $650.
JMP is better. Yes, the JTM sounds instantly better, and people will judge, but it's a one trick pony. The JMP takes fuzz (particularly a muff) better. If you change speaker or cab load the JMP with a fuzz pedal, you will imho get a far superior sound, + you can roll the tubes too (the lack of bass is just the speaker - there's a super lead like this but not as extreme).
Great episode Budda! You got me curious to see a comparison with the Blackstar HT1R. I've got one and it sounds bigger than I would expect from just 1W.
Rui Grilo I had an HT1 and it was a nice well built amp, but I just couldn’t get on with the overdrive tones. I threw an old celestion and new tubes in it and it helped! Then I realized to just use the clean channel and use a dirt pedal and it was nice indeed! For low wattage I like the Fender Greta!
Ben Logan I did the same: I tried different tubes, swapped the speaker for a Celestion Eight 15 and I even tightened the screws holding the transformer to stop an annoying rattle. I was quite happy with the tone in the end. It even has more clean headroom than I thought it would.
Love my Bugera V5 amp. It's a little dark especially with Humbuckers but after I switched out the stock speaker to an Eminence Patriot and put in better tubes. Its fantastic
