  • A few folks have contacted me about less than fully honorable military discharges. This video provides information on the various types of discharge, the grounds to cite if an upgrade is sought, and a brief description of the upgrade process and consequences of a less than fully honorable discharge.

Military is voluntary remember . You shouldnt keep vets from getting jobs based on discharge .first it's discrimination second at least they served. Most people don't even do that.

PLEASE HELP. I joined the Marine corps as a recruit about 8 years ago due being young and unprepared I couldn't handle the basic training and was not ready physically or mentally. I got out seeing a psychologist that gave me a reenlistment code that would allow me to get into a branch later down the road. 3 years later I joined the Air Force as of recruit and had to jump through hoops and get waivers for my previous service discharge. I made it to week six of basic training and was pulled out of basic training, and was given the reenlistment code JDA- fraudulent enlistment as an uncharacterized discharge. They said it was because I didn't tell them I seen a psychologist to get out of the Marine corps which they had all of my previous paperwork so there was no way I could have lied to them. I really want to get back into the military as I'm older now and more experienced. Is this possible? if so how do I do it. I'm willing to do anything I need as I loved the Air Force but they wouldn't let me stay. Thank you for any help you can offer.

I recently found clinical documentation on the Toxic effects of The Camp Lejeune water issue. Stating that the chemicals in the water TCE and PCE caused neurobehavioral issues among the soldiers that caused them to get discharged with bad paper. Which makes me question the mindset of the decision making back then in the 70's by NCO's and Officers since they also drank the same water and ate the food prepared with the water from the mess halls. Everybody stationed on base was affected by the toxicity.
Here is part of the clinical study done on the toxins from Camp Lejeune:
Neurobehavioral effects are conditions that have to do with the way the brain communicates with the nervous system, according to the National Institutes of Health. These effects can manifest as behavioral, emotional, physical or learning problems. Brain injury, illness or exposure to toxins - such as the chemicals in contaminated water from Camp Lejeune - can cause neurobehavioral effects. The symptoms of neurobehavioral effects depend on how much damage the brain has sustained. People with neurobehavioral effects typically report experiencing changes in mood, personality, attention and memory. Other neurological effects manifest as motor dysfunction, including coordination or balance problems.
Certain chemicals can seriously affect the part of the brain that controls motor function and cause tremors, ticks and even Parkinson’s disease.
    Symptoms of neurological effects include:
    Anxiety
    Changes in mood or personality
    Confusion
    Depression
    Dizziness
    Fatigue
    Headaches
    Insomnia
Involuntary muscle movements (dystonia or dyskinesia)
    Irritability
    Learning disorders
    Memory problems
    Motor problems (balance, coordination, etc.)
    Parkinson’s disease
    Poor concentration
    Tension
    Tremors
Neurobehavioral effects from exposure to toxic chemicals may last anywhere from a few minutes to several years. Mild effects from low levels of chemicals and short exposures may be reversible, but severe damage from long-term chronic exposure to high levels of chemicals may be permanent.
I was discharged with Bad Paper on numerous charges of disrespect, not following orders, not standing at attention, not picking up cigarette butts, etc. was sent for a psych eval and was diagnosed back in May 1974 with Mood Depression Psychosis, yet was kicked out for the Good of the service UD discharge, and labeled a recidivist. All because I was under the toxic influence of the water. Also the NCO's and Officers making decisions while under the same influence. Opening up a big can of worms now 48 years later. Back then the Doctors did not know nothing about the toxicity causing all the problems with Marines. i know that in my company at least 30-40 Marines were kicked out the same way, behavioral issues. This is all readily available information on the internet now. You should make a video on this issue to help us all out.

This is good info. The military however, has change a lot throughout the years. I went to the Corps back in '98, and I saw a guy getting kicked out because he had sex with a married woman. At this point was when I realized that the Corps was not joking when we were told/instructed about the penalties under the Uniform Code of Military Justice ( UCMJ) during boot camp. I hear stories that back in the 80's Marines would show up drunk after lunch and there was no big deal.

That only applies to white males. If your a female and you won't fu*k your sergeant and you report him, you can get kicked out. Happens all the time. If you walk in on your commander snorting cocaine, you can get kicked out.

Not true dude...I was a navy fmf corpsman in the reserves and received a general under honorable due to failure to get a PHA... Physical Health Assessment... It's a 15 question health sheet..blood pressure and heart rate and blood draw to check for HIV...THATS IT... Supposed to be done every 6 months...mine was lost...wasn't told about it because I drilled with marines until I got a letter on August 22, dated August 2nd saying I was being administratively separated if I didn't get my PHA by the 18th and nlt (no later than) the 19th of August.. they were gonna let me come do it NLT my next drill weekend and when I went said I could do it but i was going to be discharged anyway for failing a drug test for amphetamine...which I was prescribed Adderall!!!! which WAS in my medical record at one point..so my options were do the PHA and take a dishonorable discharge...or not do it..and take a general under honorable...the reserve side especially for the FMF side of the navy that frills with Marines...is fucking shameful..

It depends if the army would have issued an re4 for the same offense you need to get a wavier at Meps to join if the re code gets upgraded to a 3 it’s easier.

I was in the army for 3.25 years. 1.5 years in my son died. The army docs put me on a bunch of meds which literally almost killed me. I ended up in the hospital in a coma. I was giving a bad conduct discharge and I left and went AWOL within four months after or before I don't know if maybe three months after boot camp and I was given the BCD which is horrible I was actually separated in 2003 but I was already out by 2001 I was wondering if it's possible for me to get that red OTH or a general. I've led a crime-free life and I haven't had the greatest of job records but all-in-all I help people in boot camp did help me be the best person I could be. But I got article 84 and maybe an article 85 I'm not sure what it says on my DD-214 but still I was wondering if I could get just an upgrade so it's more of an honor thing for me I was too young my wife left me at the time I went AWOL and it was ignorant because she was taking my kids I didn't realize that Jag could've help me. I was nineteen twenty years old and if you're know if you know now what you knew when you were young like that you know that you weren't a man at 18 you don't really become a man until you're twenty-five 30 years old when you really realize what life is about. Some people grow and learn about life faster than others. In my case I went through boot camp with flying colors I just couldn't handle my family leaving. So I went AWOL to try to save my marriage. And it didn't work so when I went back I really had nothing in it took me awhile to go back looking back now I wish I'd stayed in for my whole life. Because i missed everything about it almost immediately after I was discharged. Can i be helped?
