      I am telling you right now the best path is college and ROTC or if you cant join the military for some reason go Bureau of Prisons anywhere and while you do that apply to the first federal agency job and wait for the one you want. US Marshals is an extremely rare federal agency to get into so be open to other federal agency jobs out there. Everyone gets an opportunity to kick down doors if thats what you are looking for, hell even the FBI has SWAT Teams. If you like the idea of your primary job being guarding the Federal Courts (because if Marshals are short staffed at the courts and your on a task force guess what? you are going back) then the Marshals is for you.
      I did both USMS and DEA internships. I didnt like DEA because it was mostly paper work to me where they built interesting cases for drug related crimes. They could also work with other cool agencies like the CIA but for me I would rather guard the courts. Like the Marshals they had a SWAT Team as well.
      Hope that helps. Do both college and either military and/or federal corrections because the Marshals Service is highly competitive.

      @@dr.foxysocks2459 I’m not sure how much you know about the federal bureau of prisons but don’t recommend that agency to anyone you know or don’t know for that matter. Horrible agency to work for. Different institutions are hit or miss as far as staff and inmates go. Just my two cents as an employee.

    I thought federal law enforcement seemed boring, too much paper & bureaucracy & not enough activity so I decided to just press on with engineering, the hiring briefs & talking to multiple retirees & active agents left a lot to be desired.

    absolutely right. FBI = good, DEA = rough and unpleasant. FLETC = great because you can leave whenever you want for food etc.

    oh. Fellow WIU guy. :D The entry-level training is really annoying to deal with. I'm retired at 34. Then got an offer to go to FLETC for training.. Ph.d in law school, now another training facility after 15 years of the Military... The idea of having to listen to deal with that annoyance for "training" is bugging me out. lol.

    • @Lemurai
      @Lemurai Рік тому

      Federal law enforcement sounded boring from the beginning, all I took from my interactions with various active & retired members of the DEA & FBI was paperwork & bureaucracy. Lastly I felt I wouldn’t be much use to them anyway, my degree is in electrical engineering, maybe criminal justice or toxicology (DEA) would be more useful, I did time in the military but felt that was also a waste of time to try and re enter as a commissioned officer as I’d take a pay cut. After this video, I’ve honestly given up on government employment as a whole, I’m simply not liking what I see in the system, the politics are screwed up & I don’t have a great feeling in regards to overall institutional integrity. I was overall disappointed & flat on my interactions pertaining federal LE. As with the military, I don’t think anyone will want these jobs in the the next 15-20 years, which is quite terrifying.

      @@Lemurai The entire shit show of changing tactics every 2 -4 years is beginning to show the uselessness of democracy. Every election creates new mindsets and creates new rules and new directions in agencies. Those elected can't functionally develop actual policies themselves, they have a legion of staff for it, when each of those members has their own agendas. But there is no f'ing way I'm going to go to an academy and get college-hazing-type disrespect out of an institution that is teaching basic tactics. The IRS keeps claiming they need agents, I'm getting an email each week from their recruiters trying to get me to go in... Give me a book and a test and put me in the field to go "investigate". Don't try to tell me that wasting 14 weeks to "learn" their ways of doing things will be any more beneficial than me jumping into a job I'm already familiar with and learning hands-on with a book to learn from. I've been to 3 "training academies" and Army boot, Airborne, and AIT... There is no point for me to take a pay cut and go back through a kiddie pool.
      I mean shit.. Our Joint ops had IRS, FBI, NSA, DEA, ICE, and other "agents" from other organizations on board and half of them were as dumb as they come when it came to doing investigations. NSCI and Army CID cadets get more functional training than some of these civilian-turned-agents.

    Thank you so much for this video! It's helped clear up lot of doubts I've had.
    This may sound like a stupid question but are we paid during training while at the respective academy?
    Also is there is there any advantage to getting a higher than minimum score on the PFTs? I understand there is recognition medals for fitness within the agency, but does result in higher wages?
    Sincerely thankful for this video! Will be going over the other ones next!

    So let me clarify a couple of things with regards to FLETC in Georgia. I went through UPTP (Uniform Police Training Program). I graduated from there in March of this year. Right now with Covid, everyone coming down there for a basic training program is being quarantined for 10 days. I heard advanced training (other schools other then basic programs) come to FLETC again sometime by the end of the year. The Taj which looks like a hotel would usually have two students per room, only one student per room. Other dorms only have one student per room with a shared bathroom. The Taj has its own both in the room. I stayed in the Taj. The food is ok, there is lots of choices to choose from. Every program is different on how it is run, some like my program I had to wear a uniform other not so much. Right now, once you are on center you can't leave. If anyone else has a question just ask.
