Better Than Bouillon may seem expensive but when you think about it, it makes 38 cups of broth from one little jar. Depending on what you pay for it, it's usually less than 10 cents a cup. If you buy the premade broth, it's about $2 for a quart, about 5X as much!
After watching this episode, I went in the kitchen and made it. My son called me from the bowling alley and asked if I wanted him to pick up supper. I said bring 4 chicken legs and 4 biscuits from Bojangles. We had the tomato gravy over the biscuits!! I used chopped tomatoes from the garden and chicken bouillon powder. Oh yum!! My son liked it too.
I grew up in Tennessee eating tomato gravy, fried red taters that we grew and white Lilly home maid biscuits. But never in my 64 years did ever I hear of sugar in green beens? But, I like you guys show. Also, Chris is such a delight to the show. Tammy, you will always be the STAR!
I was born and raised in TN. Both of my grandmothers sprinkled a little sugar in their fresh green beans and I do as well. You don't taste the sugar, it helps to make them tender. Your meal looks delicious Tammy and Chris.
I have Crohn’s disease and I haven’t been able to eat in three weeks just a little to stay out of the hospital for a IV … but I just can’t wait to try your recipes . Although I have cooked some for my grand babies… and they loved it … so with that said I will continue watching because I just love you guys and it makes me hungry when I can’t eat what I really want and I think of what you cooked and it makes me happy… and I just want a positive attitude.. and you guys help me so much… so thank you and I will see you next video… pray I can go into remission soon . I will continue praying for you . Have a blessed week … thank you again . From Asheboro NC .
Julia, blessings to you for healing from the top of your head to the bottom of your feet! I pray doctors are able to keep the disease in check for you. Also, praying for a cure!! ♥️❣️🙏🏼❣️♥️
Everything looks good. I’ve never heard of tomato gravy. It does remind me of creamed stewed tomatoes. I remember my grandma making it was delish! Thanks for the memory 😃
My momma never made tomatoes gravy either, but my dad loved it and he would make it now and again. It was a little different everytime, depending what he had to work with, he loved fresh garden tomatoes in his also and has made it with some homemade tomato juice.i love Tammy's version. It looks delicious.
I loved the true family (let's call it) discussion between the two of you. I nearly died laughing the way you got on to Marcie. I heard Chris chuckle too. The meal looked delicious, I would give anything to take a bite, out of that delicious tomato.
My mother made tomato gravy all the time. I love it and introduced my late husband to it and he loved it. I haven’t run into many people who know about tomato gravy. We cook diced onions and celery until soft in bacon grease then add canned crushed tomato’s, salt and pepper, we did use the flour over the onions and celery before adding the tomatoes. We also made what we called fried corn. In a big skillet add butter then cut the kernels off the Cobb and scrape the cobbs to get the milk out of them, cook slowly until tender. This is like heaven and it’s best if you have fresh corn since it starts turning into starch after being picked. Mama would wait until she was ready to start the corn, then send us out to the field and pick the corn and then bring it in so it was fresh. Chris just take a deep breath like you just did when she left the room. I’m afraid some of us southern women can be stubborn. I do enjoy seeing both of you together.
Greetings from Canada. I have always been curious about southern "down Home" cooking when I came across your wonderful recipes. Loving them. I have a tip in regards to the green beans- My Mama always added sugar but she also added a sprinkle of lemon juice. +I have tried your recipe for Swiss Steak with moose. It was fantastic plus the fact moose meat is extremely lean. It rocked. Love you!
Mom used to make tomato dumplings and tomato gravy. Love it! Hey leave the pups alone, it's their house too, I LOVE them in the kitchen w/ their Mom & Dad.
Healthy is not on our menus. It's got to taste taste good. we all know you are an amazing cook. Butter butter and more butter. Lard, pork fat, bacon, msg, fresh garlic, sugar. These are must haves in our household. Now I'm going to go make chocolate gravy and biscuits. I can feel the pounds do a happy dance right now.
Yummm. I love to fry pork tenderloin or center cut pork chops and put them in tomato gravy. You should try it it is so yummy!!! Love my Rada knives. Especially my tomato knife. Love you guys! Thanks for all you do!❤️
Have a great recipe for you. My mom's tomatoe gravy and cubed beef steaks but, I'm sure it would work with hamburger steak just as well. In the slow cooker: Dredge the meat in seasoned flour and brown in a skillet. Place in the slow cooker. Add lg can of whole tomatoes and crush them in your hands, add pkg of Lipton onion soup mix and a small can of tomato sauce. The flour from the meat will thicken the gravy..... cook on low 6 to 8 hours. It's soooooo good. I can't count the amount of times I've been asked for this recipe. So simple but, the best tomatoe gravy over meat and the potatoes. I'm telling ya'!!!! You can make it in a skillet to but won't be as tender but, will taste just as good!
I had a friend who came from Italy as a two-year-old. Whenever I would be at her house when she was cooking, everything that she roasted would be serve au jus, or with juice. I would always say, "That would make really good gravy". It became a running joke, and she knew I would always say it. Finally, I made her Swiss Steak and included lots of gravy, and then she understood.
Like in this video...if I use a broth concentrate it has to be salt free. You get used to eating salt free. When you eat anything with salt after that you can taste it!
So glad I finally got to get on a live chat I have been trying ever since I started watching y'all I love watching at late at night I watch video after video when I can't sleep
I made those green beans just like you said I love em, also got that swaggered sausage I will never have a bother kind it is so good. The only kind I like Iam not a sausage lover but I love it, thank you for the information. Still can’t find white lily flour. Love to watch you two.
I have never ever tried to eat my hamburger steak with tomato gravy I guess it's time to try some I've seen those purple tomatoes in Central Market here in Dallas Texas and I was afraid to buy them but now I will get some next time I see them, thanks for sharing this recipe it looks delicious.😊
Hi Tammy & Chris! This looked so delectable that I ran right out to the store and purchased ingredients! Watching you has been a true blessing - battling anorexia and cancer, but love true, simple food and comfort...found it.. God is good.... even when in despair - you always find a rainbow in those clouds!!!
The meal looked delicious...I might would add just a dash of Worcestershire Sauce in the tomato gravy because I like that flavor with tomatoes and onions. Thanks for sharing this yummy meal. Have a Blessed day.
We don't make beans like that but I'm willing to give it a try on hubby. I don't eat them anymore but when I did I preferred them soupy with bacon grease, he prefers them roasted in the oven with garlic and parm. I've never had this hamburger dish either, so I'll try it out on hubby too! Thanks for all your hard work and sharing!
Ms. Tammy my momma taught me how she made tomato gravy and it sure wasn't heart healthy, but very tasty. She would fry bacon and sauteed onions in the baking drippin. Then blend up diced tomatoes, and add cornstarch. Of course put the bacon back in the gravy and serve over rice. Our momma's did cook a lot alike. Love ya!!!🤗
Looks delicious! I’m going to have to try that tomato gravy like that, and with the hamburger steaks. I’ve made your green beans and they are very good. 😋
I did try your green beans twice. It's not for me, (plus I'm diabetic trying to watch my sugar), however I do like to add chicken broth and cook it down. I think cooking the liquid off makes it better. To each their own.
First. I do love and very much appreciate the cooking lessons. -But I do think the butter isn’t as bad on our overall health as the margarines and spreads. Just my opinion and after checking it out I switched back to butter. I suppose like most things moderation is the key. Even the Bible tries to tell us that. ❤️
It looks kind of like tomato bisque soup. It was my favorite as a kid. My aunt gave it to me when I stayed with her while my mum was going to beauty school.
Came in late but still saw the entire video. Boy, did this make a southern girl hungry! Finally getting rain in Montana, needed it so badly with all the wild fires! I'll end on the word, "Yummy"! God bless you, Tammy and Chris! xoxo
I grew up on tomato gravy. Mama or daddy used whole canned tomatoes. I haven't had it in 40 years probably. I forgot about it. I still have daddy's knives like the silver ones!
Hey Ms. Tammy and Chris. I just finished watching the replay of your premiere video here on UA-cam from 7 hours ago. This Hamburger Steak With Tomato Gravy recipe looks so delicious.
Your mamma ever talk about carrot gravy? A relative of mine ( he's passed now) said my Italian grandma made the best carrot gravy. I never had the chance to ask about it. Doesn't sound very good but I'm very curious .

And it lasts forever. I love it.
That broth is a good buy and oh so delicious!
Try some brown suger in your green beans
I love it. I but so many of the different flavors
My husband finds creative new places for everything, too, but I am grateful that he empties the dishwasher!

I am 68 and I have always added a sprinkle of sugar in all of my fresh beans and in my collards also.

@@judyabernathy80 thank you so much
That all looks so good! We NEVER have leftovers when I fix those green beans, they are the best tasting green beans and so easy to make.
Everything looks good. I’ve never heard of tomato gravy. It does remind me of creamed stewed tomatoes. I remember my grandma making it was delish! Thanks for the memory 😃

Red potatoes are my favorite, even for potato salad.

Mom used to make tomato dumplings and tomato gravy. Love it! Hey leave the pups alone, it's their house too, I LOVE them in the kitchen w/ their Mom & Dad.
I grew up in south Arkansas and we had some kind of gravy almost daily . I still love them all !
That was so funny the way he sighed when you went to check the pups. Chris and I are like that.
I loved that part! lol
Haha…I picked up on that and loved it too

I love my Regan knives and I will try this recipe for dinner tonight.
My grandma made tomato gravy but she made regular flour gravy then just added tomatoes so your's is a different twist to what I have had
Have a great recipe for you. My mom's tomatoe gravy and cubed beef steaks but, I'm sure it would work with hamburger steak just as well.

You are my favorite southern cook for sure!!
I like the way you keep saying this is real life!
Tomato gravy is delicious with biscuits, pork chops, or cubed steak 😋
To save yourself some time, you can use your potato water instead of hot water in your bullion. It’ll help thicken your gravy too👍😉
My my my. That looks soooo good. Thanks for sharing.

I put sugar in my pork and beans, beef a roni, spaghetti sauce, etc. Nothing wrong with sugar in string beans! 😊

I LOVE 🍅 gravy. My favorite over homemade biscuits.
Grits, eggs and bacon or sausage with milk and coffee.
Need some of those biscuits with the tomato gravy
I’m from Louisiana and I’ve been eating tomato gravy all my life! I like to eat it with biscuits or just out of a bowl! I like runny gravy too!

Green beans look yummy ! I can’t stand beans floating in water ..
I love tomato gravy with my grits. Shrimp and grits with tomato gravy is awesome 😋
I did try your green beans twice. It's not for me, (plus I'm diabetic trying to watch my sugar), however I do like to add chicken broth and cook it down. I think cooking the liquid off makes it better. To each their own.
My mother made tomato gravy all my life! I have cooked it for my family
I could just eat that tomato with a little bit of salt yum yum
Wow, you could jar that gravy and sell it. It looks even better than anything Prego ever made.
Meal looks delicious! I'm definitely trying your tomatoe gravy. Great job!
I just love you guys! ❤ Looks delicious! Can't wait!
