Better Than Bouillon may seem expensive but when you think about it, it makes 38 cups of broth from one little jar. Depending on what you pay for it, it's usually less than 10 cents a cup. If you buy the premade broth, it's about $2 for a quart, about 5X as much!

I grew up in Tennessee eating tomato gravy, fried red taters that we grew and white Lilly home maid biscuits. But never in my 64 years did ever I hear of sugar in green beens? But, I like you guys show. Also, Chris is such a delight to the show. Tammy, you will always be the STAR!

I was born and raised in TN. Both of my grandmothers sprinkled a little sugar in their fresh green beans and I do as well. You don't taste the sugar, it helps to make them tender. Your meal looks delicious Tammy and Chris.

After watching this episode, I went in the kitchen and made it. My son called me from the bowling alley and asked if I wanted him to pick up supper. I said bring 4 chicken legs and 4 biscuits from Bojangles. We had the tomato gravy over the biscuits!! I used chopped tomatoes from the garden and chicken bouillon powder. Oh yum!! My son liked it too.

My momma never made tomatoes gravy either, but my dad loved it and he would make it now and again. It was a little different everytime, depending what he had to work with, he loved fresh garden tomatoes in his also and has made it with some homemade tomato juice.i love Tammy's version. It looks delicious.

My mother made tomato gravy all the time. I love it and introduced my late husband to it and he loved it. I haven’t run into many people who know about tomato gravy. We cook diced onions and celery until soft in bacon grease then add canned crushed tomato’s, salt and pepper, we did use the flour over the onions and celery before adding the tomatoes. We also made what we called fried corn. In a big skillet add butter then cut the kernels off the Cobb and scrape the cobbs to get the milk out of them, cook slowly until tender. This is like heaven and it’s best if you have fresh corn since it starts turning into starch after being picked. Mama would wait until she was ready to start the corn, then send us out to the field and pick the corn and then bring it in so it was fresh. Chris just take a deep breath like you just did when she left the room. I’m afraid some of us southern women can be stubborn. I do enjoy seeing both of you together.

Greetings from Canada. I have always been curious about southern "down Home" cooking when I came across your wonderful recipes. Loving them. I have a tip in regards to the green beans- My Mama always added sugar but she also added a sprinkle of lemon juice. +I have tried your recipe for Swiss Steak with moose. It was fantastic plus the fact moose meat is extremely lean. It rocked. Love you!

Have a great recipe for you. My mom's tomatoe gravy and cubed beef steaks but, I'm sure it would work with hamburger steak just as well.
    In the slow cooker:
Dredge the meat in seasoned flour and brown in a skillet. Place in the slow cooker. Add lg can of whole tomatoes and crush them in your hands, add pkg of Lipton onion soup mix and a small can of tomato sauce. The flour from the meat will thicken the gravy..... cook on low 6 to 8 hours. It's soooooo good. I can't count the amount of times I've been asked for this recipe. So simple but, the best tomatoe gravy over meat and the potatoes. I'm telling ya'!!!!
You can make it in a skillet to but won't be as tender but, will taste just as good!

I had a friend who came from Italy as a two-year-old. Whenever I would be at her house when she was cooking, everything that she roasted would be serve au jus, or with juice. I would always say, "That would make really good gravy". It became a running joke, and she knew I would always say it. Finally, I made her Swiss Steak and included lots of gravy, and then she understood.

Then blend up diced tomatoes, and add cornstarch. Of course put the bacon back in the gravy and serve over rice. Our momma's did cook a lot alike. Love ya!!!🤗
