Ms Lori, your channel is such a testimony to southern cooking and southern hospitality which go hand in hand. Someday, far in the future, your great great grandkids will be showing these videos to their children and holding you up as an example of family love and tradition. I have got to try this tomato gravy!💕
My ex's grandmother his family was from Pennsylvania Pennsylvania Dutch (German) taught me how to make tomato gravy when I was 19. I love it made with fresh garden tomatoes. I don't add onions because I don't like them. I use fresh ripe garden tomatoes, butter, flour and a bit of cornstarch, milk, salt, a lot of pepper and a tiny bit of sugar. It's Soo good over biscuits or toast. It's quick to cook so it's a great quick breakfast on a summer day. I used to make it for lunch a lot too decades ago when I had a huge garden and an abundance of tomatoes. I have no tomatoes in the house now or I'd fix some today! I'm old now and live in town, sure do miss rural life and my garden. The town I live in is overrun with rabbits and squirrels they even came up on my deck and ate the plants I had in planters!

My parents grew up in the hills of Kentucky, grew up eating our form of tomato gravy. We didn’t add any cream or milk. It was bacon grease, onion’s, celery and stewed tomatoes. That’s it. It was the best thing on meatloaf and rice. My husband had never had it until I cooked it for him, he loved it. When I lost him in 2007, I craved tomato gravy and rice. That was almost all I ate for about 6 months. I hope people give it a try you’ll be surprised how wonderful it is and simple.
my mom made tomato gravy but she followed the Penn dutch version.....it was lighter in color, with shreds of tomato and it was delicious.....she served over toast and we kids thought it was out of this world....well, everything she made was.
I'm 78 years old and have never heard about tomato gravy. But in the summertime we had almost daily biscuits with milk gravy and sliced tomatoes for Breakfast, yum Thank you for another recipe to try. I'm from the south, South Carolina.
My Granny and I used to take sliced tomatoes (or sometimes cantaloupe) to the restaurants with us and we’d order a gravy biscuit and put the tomatoes or cantaloupe on them. So good! The cantaloupe sounds weird, but it’s delicious on a gravy biscuit!
Seriously, we don't have tomato gravy in Wisconsin. Some Italians from Chicago call the spaghetti sauce "Sunday gravy". Other than that, it is completely foreign. It looks outstanding, though and I would gratefully clean my plate!
One of my most favorite dishes is to make tomato gravy. I was raised in a blended family, one half being Cajun and the other half backwoods country. In my mind, there is no better combination than these two combined. I learned to make my roux, using saved bacon fat, as dark as possible before adding tomatoes and water only. Salt and pepper to taste. Fresh tomatoes really bring that tomato deliciousness up a to a whole different flavor level. This is served over fresh from the oven homemade buttermilk biscuits. This is one of the things my kids ask for after all these years. You are right, comfort food at its finest.

I met my husband 56 yrs ago in California. And that's when I tasted tomato gravy. I have been making it for years. My mother in law was from Ohio. Sure is good.
Good memories!! My people in Appalachia made this and it never got old. I had 2 aunt's that used to compete to see who could make the best for me and I LOVED it!! I still do tho those aunt's have went on to heaven now but I will always cherish those memories. Tomato gravy a poan of bread and fried wienies was a feast!!
Back in the early 1960's my grandmother made tomato gravy here in south Georgia. It's to die for. We make it using bacon grease and flour to a darker brown in color and cook the tomatoes down in the gravy and add some water, salt and pepper.
That would be our Supper many a day when I was growing up! With six kids growing up, my Moma would make just biscuits and a big pan of Tomato Gravy! Especially2-3 days before a payday! We never knew We were poor until we grew up and she taught us how to stretch a dollar!
Miss Lori, I’ve said you have the best recipes out there! This one proves I’m right. I love all of the non-traditional (non-traditional in most areas…) you share and are what I’m looking for. I’ll be making this tonight. Love, love, love it!!
I’m 46- born raised rurally north of Nashville Tennessee USA(it’s our closest big city) *Gravy Explained for my area* We had tomato gravy made from homemade canned tomato’s as a kid and as an adult, tinned tomatoes. It was for breakfast and went with fried corn and bacon 🌽 🥓 and homemade biscuits. It was a trio of enjoyed flavours and I absolutely LOVE IT! I still have to have these 3 together when gardens are coming in Yes- we also had regular bacon gravy, sausage gravy, white gravy, chicken gravy, turkey gravy, pork gravy and CHOCOLATE gravy. Chocolate gravy was a way for my grandmother to give 11 kiddos a sweet treat and use up leftover biscuits. I grew up in an area where we had fresh biscuits with every meal, and so having multiple types of gravy was just a way to feed a lot of loved ones. Typical daily gravy for those who think this or chocolate was common was more like- bacon grease browned till it turned peanut butter in color and then water or milk added- most often - water because milk was expensive. Nowadays-tomato or chocolate gravy is a treat for holidays. Life as a kiddo example: we’d be sitting around at night saying to mama, “I wish we had somethin’ sweet to eat mama.” And she’s tease us and take a pretend nibble of us and say 😋 yummy - you’re sweet!!! And we’d say nooooo maaaaamaaaa... something real!! 🤭 😂 And she’s go whip up something from pantry staples like chocolate gravy ;)
As the old Campbell soup commercials used to say, "MMM--MMM-MMM-MMM-MMM!! Boy, does that look delicious! I imagine it would be wonderful over my favorite pasta, spaghetti, too!
I had never heard of tomato gravy until five years ago. One of the guides at the deer camp I hunted with in South Alabama made biscuits and tomato gravy for us for breakfast one rainy morning. Wonderful stuff. Fried deer tenderloin went perfectly with it. Yours looks delicious. Makes me wish I had Smell-o-vision on my computer. Thank you for the video. Be well and at peace.
Oh my!!! This looks delicious!! I think that's what will be on the menu this Sunday when my Dad comes over for a home cooked meal! Thank you Miss Lori!!
Texas girl, had T G one time, I never forgot how good it was, I've not ever been able to match that wonderful flood of gravy, I'm gonna try this recipe, thanks for sharing it, it looks a lot like what I have in my memory of the only time I got to eat this! This might be it! It was a elderly Mississippi Man that served this up momma my mouths watering just looking at what you've cooked up here! Mmmm! Gods wonderful works to the children of men! Talent!! Gracious! I gotta have some! Thanks again for sharing this, live in the moments there's lots of good one!
My mother made a tomato gravy with garlic pork roast! She would brown the pork roast in the oven while she would salute onions celery and garlic in pork fat then add 4 cans tomato sauce salt pepper and a little Worchestershire sauce mix it up and pour it on top and around the roast cover it and bake it at 325 for 3 to 3 and a half hours!! Makes the best gravy!!! So good with mashed potatoes and buttered peas!!!
I'm from New Jersey and I have never heard of tomato gravy. My mother in law was Italian and called her spaghetti sauce gravy, but this looks so good I know I'm going to love it. Thank You for sharing

My grandmother used to make this and serve over mashed potatoes or fried green tomatoes with biscuits on the side. I am going to have to make this - haven't thought of this for years.
We absolutely love tomato gravy in our house. I make mine with any kind of grease I have fried some kind of meat. Or just bacon or sausage grease. I use tomatoes that I have canned for all my tomatoes and liquid. I’m gonna try this way and I’m sure we will love it too. We love deer cubed steak and tomato gravy for a meal.
I ate tomato gravy as a small kid growing up in virginia and still love it. I turned 79 yesterday and i have lots of home grown tomatoes so i might give it a try.

I'm 75 born in Ohio-but pretty much grew up in Ga -Dads work-Mother was a supreme cook-we had what she called creamed tomatoes made with a white sauce when ever she made salmon patties-such sweet memories
I’ve lived in Texas over 50 years and have never heard of tomato gravy. Oh my! Sounds & looks so unbelievably good & I’m so hungry for home grown tomatoes. Currently I live in desert of West Texas and haven’t had luck growing tomatoes in this sandy, hot area. Believe me! I’ll keep trying.....I miss gardening and canning...p.s. I’ve been watching your channel for about a year and it’s my favorite....I taught nearly 40 years but had to retire due to health...God’s always brings blessings in every situation.... It’s only because of being so ill that I began watching tv/UA-cam and found such kind people (you & mr. brown are my #1)....oh, lori...you have gotten me through some very difficult times .... I could feel it...ya’lls Godliness....your gentle, kind spirit comes through each video...please thank mr. brown also for sharing the Bible and prayers he’s said....God’s definitely working thru ya’ll! P.s. I don’t comment because I know you get so many and you are so busy but I just had to write and tell you the blessing you’ve been for me....thank you and may God continue to guide you & bless you and mr. brown
Thanks Mrs . Lori . For your tomato gravy recipe . I live in South Texas . My Mama made tomato gravy . My Daddy's Mama showed her how to make it . I always use evaporated milk . For my tomato gravy . And my white gravy . Makes the gravy taste creamer . The Lord Bless Both Of You .
Hi Miss Lori, I'm watching from Canada. I've never heard of tomato gravy, looks so yummy and vegetarian friendly. I would love you to share more recipes native to the South. Thank you ❤

I met my husband 56 yrs ago in California. And that's when I tasted tomato gravy. I have been making it for years. My mother in law was from Ohio. Sure is good.
I'm from the South and have never had tomato gravy, but I do love a slice of homegrown tomato inside a warm biscuit. Yum!
Outstanding!
We always uses just Milk and Lard or Bacon fat. I’m going to try Evaporated Milk. Yumm
I'm salivating...Man that looks delicious..Never heard of tomato🍅gravy...
My mom made this. I grew up on this delicious southern food.
That would be our Supper many a day when I was growing up! With six kids growing up, my Moma would make just biscuits and a big pan of Tomato Gravy! Especially2-3 days before a payday! We never knew We were poor until we grew up and she taught us how to stretch a dollar!
That looks amazing! Perfect timing with homegrown tomatoes, onions, garlic and jalapeños!!!
Christie, I was thinking of the fresh basil in my patio garden with minced garlic!!! Great minds, eh? 😊
I have never heard of this. But I have garden tomatoes coming out my ears. I’ll be making this tomorrow morning!
I like your haircut! Maybe I'm behind the curve but wanted to acknowledge it. And this gravy is life, girl! Indeed! Amen!
Thank you
Miss Lori, I’ve said you have the best recipes out there! This one proves I’m right. I love all of the non-traditional (non-traditional in most areas…) you share and are what I’m looking for. I’ll be making this tonight. Love, love, love it!!

I’m 46- born raised rurally north of Nashville Tennessee USA(it’s our closest big city)
*Gravy Explained for my area*
We had tomato gravy made from homemade canned tomato’s as a kid and as an adult, tinned tomatoes.
It was for breakfast and went with fried corn and bacon 🌽 🥓 and homemade biscuits.
It was a trio of enjoyed flavours and I absolutely LOVE IT! I still have to have these 3 together when gardens are coming in
Yes- we also had regular bacon gravy, sausage gravy, white gravy, chicken gravy, turkey gravy, pork gravy and CHOCOLATE gravy.
Life as a kiddo example:
we’d be sitting around at night saying to mama, “I wish we had somethin’ sweet to eat mama.” And she’s tease us and take a pretend nibble of us and say 😋 yummy - you’re sweet!!! And we’d say nooooo maaaaamaaaa... something real!! 🤭 😂
And she’s go whip up something from pantry staples like chocolate gravy ;)
Reminds me of my childhood. My sweet mom made this all the time with hot water cornbread. Love your videos. Thanks
As the old Campbell soup commercials used to say, "MMM--MMM-MMM-MMM-MMM!! Boy, does that look delicious! I imagine it would be wonderful over my favorite pasta, spaghetti, too!
Have never heard of tomato gravy! Looks like a must try! Cute, cute drawings of you and Mr. Brown at the end!
