Here on TheTopher, I'm known for putting a camera on my face and driving cars. Whether it's about any of my personal cars or reviews on weekly press vehicles, the goal is to give you an idea of what a certain car is like to drive or live with. Most of my videos are filmed in POV, with my clothes on, and (for like the 5th time) with in-ear binaural audio. Which, if I haven't made it clear yet, is why you should wear headphones. Because of the whole "woah" factor. It's there, trust me. Try it, it's pretty nuts. Or don't. As long as you whitelist me on your adblocker I'm okay with whatever you do or don't do with regards to headphone usage. That is all. Oh and I guess you should also probably subscribe. Why are you still reading this, you should be watching the video. With headphones! Hah, had to sneak that in there one more time. Later!

I rented a 2019 a year ago for a few days with the auto. I was really impressed with it. Very quiet, smooth ride and comfortable seats. Yeah, its pretty basic by today's standards, but I've have much more bare bones cars in the 90s and early 2000s. I'm actually considering a 2021. They're one of the few new cars that dealers generally don't add on thousands in dealer markup to in this chip shortage times. I just need a reasonably comfy, economical, simple car with a decent warranty.

Manual ANYTHING is pretty good! As another person mentioned in the comments, the simplicity is strangely attractive. My wife and I had a 1990 Jetta (black with a manual) back in the early 90’s. We put about a million really hard miles on that old car. Loved it! Even though it was pretty slow, it really was great to drive. I also owned an 85 Scirroco (a black manual) in the 80’s. Really loved that car.

Dont understand all the hate on this car. I bought a 2020 manual and it's a blast. I've had miatas, fiat 500 turbos and when my daughter was born needed something bigger but I wanted to keep a lot of the fun driving dynamics and this car kept a lot of that for me all while driving a reasonable dad car. Is it a track star ? Probably not without a little help but is it super fun to drive around the twisties of WV ? Hell yes lol

The Jetta has become so cheap and boring, but it's hard to deny the value here. It's really amazing to see how inexpensive the Jetta has become. I remember my family buying a 2006 Jetta Value Edition in 2005. One of the first on the lot. The car had an MSRP of around $18,000. In today's prices, that would be nearly $23,000.

If you are thinking to buy a new VW JETTA 2019, think twice.
I bought this car in May 2019. The 8 speed automatic transmission, beside making a grinding noise when is driving at a constant speed of 30 to 40 miles per hour (+/_ 1,200 RPM), make an annoying vibration. The service department and the VW representative said that the vibration and noise are normal. I think this is the most ridiculos answer that I ever heard from a car manufacturer.
I when to different VW dealers and drove a brand new car and all have the same problem. Be careful when you test it, maybe you will not notice it at the beginning.
Just type in Google "Jetta 2019 transmission problems" and you will see.
Pd: This happens on roads not very steep as we have in florida.

For those of you who call this car "boring," VW tried to "upmarket" the Jetta with the Mk5 models. It didn't work so well, and went against the history of the Jetta. So they went down to a more market friendly, i.e. boring, people's car type product. I've had Mk2, Mk3, and I failed to get a Mk4, as it's my favourite model. Especially in GLI trim. Funny note, they've had that same damn door open/key in chime for 30 years! LOL

Jared hey no problem. The timing belt it made of rubber / plastic much cheaper to produce. Some engines are designed in a way that the timing belt if it breaks could damage the engine internally. A well designed engine uses a timing chain [much stronger for the long run] that is connected outside the engine so if it breaks there’s no internal damage. Hope this makes sense bro

1)Low cruising rpm ( for my opinion 1.500 is a little low) , drop just one gear.
    2) nice rev match!!!
    A) My Fiat 500 two cylinder engine with 875cc and 85 hp has the worst rev hang in first gear, it redlines way too fast!
    B) When you change gears the rpm drps way too slow, i don't know why but in both of our cars ( Alfa romeo 159 and a Hyundai Getz ) it started like that and then during gear changing the rps were droping way faster. I think it has something to do with the clutch. If anyone knows please reply ! Really nice video man !

The easiest and most gratifying mod that you can do to any vehicle is the stereo. I doubt you have ever heard a real system if you’re even slightly amused by any stock stereo. There is no stock stereo that sounds like a 1990s custom system with American made amplifiers with High end components. A little knowledge and 1000 bucks will destroy the stereo system of every manufacturer at any price range. Food for thought

Have you felt any type of spring feel on the clutch pedal as you press or release the pedal? I'm having that looked into but don't know if it's a normal feel for this car. Also, does the car sound loud when you first turn it on? I know the secondary air comes on when a cold start up happens but it developed this louder noise at start up that sounds like it has a tiny hole in the exhaust but goes away after 20 seconds or so when the air pump shuts down.

    • @MrRinzlr
      @MrRinzlr 3 роки тому

Definitely normal start up noise. I have a 2020 Jetta S MT and it is loud for about 20 seconds after a cold start. I believe there are electronically controlled baffles in the exhaust. As far as the clutch goes, I have no complaints at all. How is it going for you now?

My 2017 Jetta SE has the manual adjustment for the dash lights, maybe its an SE thing? I have an auto, but i do have some sort of vibration when I accelerate in 2nd and 3rd gear i think it might be the catalytic converter, or something near there. Other than that, I love my Jetta! I just bought it last week and im so in love. My sound system is AMAZING as well, it has a factory subwoofer in the rear part over the trunk. my backup camera is awesome, also factory, and it makes an alarm when a car is approaching. It has the blind spot sensors, and the turn signal indicators on the mirrors. I've seen a lot of reviews saying Jettas feel outdated and I'm sitting here like...this is the most amazing car I've ever owned, what are you talking about?! Oh yeah and the armrest is adjustable forward/backward. I use this car for my work commute and Lyft driving. I sometimes get 50 MPG+ going 75 on the highway. for a tank that takes $40 to fill up in Cali and getting 410+ miles out of it, its just amazing.

but every trim above this forces you into an auto trans. Is the $3.5k price jump worth it? Comparing to an SE/R-Line/SEL is the only way to really know. Cheap, inexpensive cars don't have to be "cheap" or featureless; they just won't have a many features as higher priced/trimmed cars.
