    2 completely different machines, for 2 completely different jobs. The big Graco ( airless ) is used for production, larger projects, like walls, ceilings, exterior stucco, and so on, those machines run at around 1500-2000 psi. The small HVLP ( high volume low pressure ) is used for small projects, such as cabinets, doors, trims. You can't compare 2 different products and expect the same results.

    Guys I love you but you have to learn how to use that buendio. It is an awesome gun. The reason it plugged on you is because you have to mix your paint with some water. I was able to finish a 5 bedroom 2 bathroom house in a less than 2 days with that gun.

    I would buy it because I am not a house flipper. Plus I don't have an extra $500 or the space to have an appliance like that sitting around in my basement for when I want to paint a room every couple of years. It was pretty evident from the start of the video what you thought. I am happy with my $40 "cheap version" sprayer. It does what I need it to do.

  • @kkp4297
    @kkp4297 Рік тому +13

    HVLP has its uses. It provides a very smooth finish where it's needed.
    it's not for drywall. Better to use a roller than cheap hvlp for drywall.
    You should have kept the HVLP sprayer for when you need to spray cabinets. The airless sprayer would have too much orange peel in that case.

    This really helps me decide for painting our new house. I have a question for you two - have y’all ever painted over a glossy stained trim with the sprayer? I know I need to sand and prep, but is it worth it to DIY or should we pay someone? Thanks. And thanks for the content.

    • @WhatTheFlipShow
      @WhatTheFlipShow  Рік тому +2

      The best result will be to sand the trim to bare wood, but this is very time consuming. You could also use a bonding primer over the stain so you won’t have to sand as much. In our previous house flip we painted all of the trim which was heavily lacquered and stained. We sanded some down to bare wood, and for the doors we just used a bonding primer and both results look great. Hope this helps!

    That small, cheap Amazon sprayer is an HVLP running at 1-15 psi (high volume low pressure) vs your Graco which is an airless running at 1000-1500 psi. The HVLP is great (maybe not that cheap brand) for painting trim and doors that are in place in a finished house as there is very little masking involved and almost zero overspray.

    I have honestly not had great luck with the Graco Magnum sprayer. We've tried to use it multiple times, but on ours we could NEVER get the pressure adjusted to have a smooth solid spray without tails, even at the highest setting, and with the pressure that high, we had drips EVERYWHERE and had to sand down. It was so disappointing to have spent that much and not had good results, and we used it on multiple projects trying to figure out if we were doing anything wrong. I honestly now wonder if we had a defective unit.

    • @WhatTheFlipShow
      @WhatTheFlipShow  Рік тому

      We hate to hear that! It’s very possible, or maybe the tip/gun is bad. You may want to try replacing those if you haven’t already. Also at paint stores you can get low pressure/fine finish tips for even smoother results than the standard tip that comes with the machine.

      @@dessingoI agree 99%. I personally hate when (cheaper) sprayers say to hold it 6" from the wall. You hold spray paint cans 8 - 10" from the wall! Unless you have one of the many primers where it says "do not thin" in the materials data sheet. While not common with paints, this direction is often included with primers. There are many ways to be penny wise and pound foolish with painting, thinning primer is one of them. It's all fun and games until you see adhesion fail for the first time. Then you have to start from square one. Scrape off the blisters, compound, sand, then primer again.

I have several HVLP sprayers (paint car HVLP) not the other ones they work nice but really can’t spray latex. I bought a couple similar to yours…POS all started to work ok then splattered ruined job everytime! It's like comparing a pick up to a corvette and saying which will be better for a farm, or an artist's paint brush with a paint roller and asking what's going to paint a wall better. I think the small paint sprayer is the one to use for cabinets or furniture, while the industrial one is for larger areas, like walls. Must be nice to be able to just toss out $50, likely someone else could have used it and you don't create more garbage.
