- It's crazy to think that I've owned my BMW E30 for a little over 7 months now and still have not drove it! Well the day came where I might be able to drive it for the first time. Sadly things didn't go as planned, and I'm now gonna start looking for another engine to swap into my E30. But that's a good thing right? ;)

Its crazy what was done prior to this vehicle. Its like the deeper you go to inspect this engine and correct it, the more nonsense that unfolds. I had a black 325e for a short time and loved it so much, unfortunately not long after I bought it, it was side swiped. To say the least my interest in seeing this car again is high, running well or not haha

The m20 engine is an excellent engine. The timing belt is the main weak point. It is a 200 k mile engine if maintenance is kept up. Really like the '73 2002 in the background 👍

You know what’s wrong with the engine? Rod bearings?
You could tell it was low on compression in at least one cylinder when he first tried to start it then you could hear it knocking when he pulled in just before shutting it off. RIP hahaha. Did you check the oil before he beat on it? Those engines really aren't the most fun to own as far as I've heard anyways.
To be really honest we had checked the oil like a week before we filmed this video, but not this time around. Yeah I didn't want to keep the M20 engine anyways.

That engine definitely needs to be replaced. I know the obvious option is to LS swap the engine, but just swap the engine for something you are sure you will enjoy without ending up in the shop every week. I personally would swap this for the B58 from the Z4 (if it would fit). That engine is so reliable that Toyota tore the engine apart for quality checks and found no flaws at all.

Yeah but adapting the b58 engine into a 30 years old bmw would be really challenging. Not to mention how expensive it can be.
