In this lesson, I am teaching you my interpretation of the 'Big Trouble' guitar solo tapping section. This a passage that I am sure has eluded many players for a long time. But no longer!!
Feeling proud of myself. One day, I woke up one day and couldn't play this solo, and by the end of the day, I had it down! This was always one of my bucket list solos which I am really happy to share. How @SteveVaiHimself came up with this I have no idea!

I would rather listen to this guy all day than alot of famous, big name guitarists. He is right up there, or better than most of them. In my humble opinion. Keep it up mr. Cooper!!
Absolutely agree 100%! One of THE BEST players around for sure !
One has to wonder if Cameron would be as popular today without those big name guitarists that came before him. In my humble opinion.
One of my favorite DLR/Vai solos. Ever.
My absolute favourite SV solo of all time. Thank you so much for taking the time to record this for us!
The tone is incredible!!! The playing too! Keep up the great work. This solo always kills me when i try to play it 😅🤣
Eat 'em and Smile is just plain a classic album for any guitar player
I know, Steve Vai has some great solos, but this is my favourite. When I bought the album in 1986, I listened to it at least ten times in a row. Big Trouble endlessly, and cranking up the volume until the windows rattle. Cameron, you do it very well, and you explain very well how to do it. Now continue with the remaining solos on the album.🤟🤟
Awesome job covering and breaking down such a monster solo. I feel that it is one of Steve's best off that album.
Beautifully done Cameron. There was an interview with Steve Vai in Oct 1986's Guitar Player magazine (which included a flexidisc of Blue Powder, way before Passion and Warfare came out). Steve talks about most of the songs from Eat 'Em & Smile, and it was a fascinating read. My copy is long gone, but after seeing this video nostalgiaI prompted me to order one fron ebay, and it arrived yesterday. I forgot that it included a transcription by Steve himself of this solo!!! (Amazingly, my "new" copy included the flexidisc).
Thank you very much for the lesson, really appreciate it.
Tapping Masterclass thanks Cam🤟🏻
Always reminds me of the push comes to shove solo
Thats a great song with an incredible solo….well done Cam…well done indeed 👍
Also one of my favorite solos! Steve’s playing in the David Lee Roth band and the movie Crossroads is my favorite playing by him!
And you really do a great job also on these solos! I love it!!🔥🔥🔥🎸🎸🎸
Finally! 🤩 Thank you!!! 🙏
Just stunning playing.
You play it so smooth, just enjoy. Thank you
Fantastic.
Hell yeah!!! Such an amazing album with some incredible solos. Great job man!
Love learning and listening, awesome stuff!
Thank you so much for doing this Mr C! This has haunted me for years. For a full exorcism could you tackle Hot Dog and a Shake?
Thanks a lot for putting this out there! You did an excellent job breaking this down, and it was very simple to follow. One day I'll get it up to speed!
Amazing song
Amazing Thanks a ton for this
This solo lives rent free in my head since first hearing it in 2019. It’s so amazing Cam that you did any kind of tutorial on this one. There really aren’t any good ones I’ve seen so I’m relying off peoples play throughs and tabs combined to nail it
Amazing man!
Great solo
I love your playin buddy
OMG Thank You Cameron!!
Lol my face melted when you said “here it is at full speed” 🤣
Great just great!!!
This is why Vai is truly an original... I hear this as lydian dominant in E... but, I'm sure he just played it... his note selection is really rather brilliant.
I think he was 100% aware of it having a lydian dominant sound and consciously aimed for that sound. Steve's a genius
I remember when that oil sign was new 😁🤣😁🤣✌️😎
You’re a credit to the guitar community

You are the best
Just so you know that is my favorite solo of all time.
Great! just when i was ready to transcribe it and lose half a day before learning it... thanks ❤
You're welcome 😊
@@CameronCooperif i end up transcribing it anyway, may i post it here as a complement to the video?
@@shyboy2112 you don't need to transcribe it now I've put the video out
cool
🤟👍✌️❤️
😳😳😳😳😳🙈🙈🙈🤘🤘🤘🤘
Gregg bissonette on drums… 👊
Awesome chops! Any good advice/excersises for alternate and economy picking?
My best advice would be licks and solos that involve the technique over specific exercises but this video may help

Man you are insane!! I’d love to know how your guitars are set up in terms of action, neck relief etc. Have you considered making a video on it ?
Never wanted to make a video because they all vary and my preferences are controversial aha
I think the biggest challenge of this tappiing bit is getting a solid grip on the tempo and locking it into the groove. I was able to bring it up to a decent speed in about a day, but now I find myself needing to slow it down again and figure it out on the backing track. This is mostly due to its peculiar, almost 'free form' style, which is typical of tapping patterns in Steve's solos. Do you have any tips on your process when it came to locking it into the track?
Good question. To put it into context with this video, get to the end of section 4 in time for the chord change.
Once again 🔥🔥🔥🔥💥💥💥🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸 I was about 18 in 86 how old were. U 🤔🤣🤣🤣😁🤣
I was 10 years from conception in 86'.
Vai is a monster guitarist but I have always found Eddie's playing tastier, ex, push comes to shove, hot for teacher, short solo in the cradle will rock.
Nobody compares to Eddie . There is just something about Edward that no other guitarist in history has and it's almost impossible to explain but I'll give you an example of what I mean . Steve Vai being Frank Zappa's guy used to be at Franks house all the time playing guitar . Dweezil despite always being around to witness it was absolutely OBSESSED with Eddie , that's all he talked about . When Eddie visited the great Jason Becker at his home Jason's parents told Eddie that Jason says you're the greatest ever . There were a ton of other amazing guitarists around but everybody including every guitar publication on the planet focused and obsessed over Eddie . Eddie himself never asked or wanted any of the fame as he despised interviews but he was the whole package, he was a true freak that wasn't from this planet . He changed everything .
@@herbcanter2114 Changed everything is right !
Hi you have so many Charvels with maple fretboard, I was wondering how do you clean it? and does it need oil? Because I just bought my first Charvel with maple fretboard.
I use pledge wood polish to clean fingerboards. Either that or window cleaner
@@CameronCooper awesome thank you 😊
Hello sir i need rock metallic lead chord any song please☺🙏🥰
HI bro , do u like Jason Becker ? I think I should love "When you wish upon a Star" very cool cover by Jason
Love Jason Becker! Learned a bunch off the Little Ain't Enough album
Jajaja I also prefer some of DLR Steve Vai era than Van Halen!
I dont play Electric, but u dont even need to try to hit every note tho, been playing guitar for very very long now, my genre is john mayer/ben howard and john butler, william fitzsimmon
Nobody said you have to hit every note, I just set a high standard for myself.
I am pretty sure Vai plays it the same always.
Easier: write it on a piece of paper.
Not really
Of course it’s better than Van Halen
Of course it's not a competition
shoooooar
LOL, nothings better than classic VH . Steve just like every other guitarist on the planet took what Eddie started and did their own thing but it all started with the great Edward . Nobody comes close to having the impact of VH did and nobody ever will . People who can play some of the stuff today have had over 40 + years to practice getting it right and the fact is most still don't get it right . It's why Eddie is known as the Undisputed King .
@@herbcanter2114 I've not had 40+ years to practice and I'm doing alright
