      I was very blessed at age 15 to get my 1969 SS M21 4 speed V-gate, 396 Hugger Orange with SS hood, & black deluxe interior. Yes I still have it, since late fall 1977. Lots of priceless memories. I loved to drag race, at its best, ran 12.73 at 111 mph. Back in 1981 I decided to build it up and sadly its been a lifetime project car for the last 39 years, hopefully I want to get it all assembled THIS spring 2021. HUGGER69SS Camaro's are definitely my favorite car.

    To me, the 1969 Chevrolet Camaro is the quintessential American muscle car. The lines are so classic and you could make it any way you wanted. It was the ultimate blank canvas.

    Nice! I was fortunate enough to grow up next door to a guy who had 2 of the 1st generation Camaros. A '67 and a '69 he was restoring. Looking back, my love for American muscle cars was cultivated by spending time with him while he worked on them and by him being patient and kind when a kid would ask a lot of questions. He taught me everything..from the basics such as the differences between a small block 350 vs a big block 427 or 454, functions of superchargers and why hoods had scoops or air vents, positraction and slip differentials, all the way down to the details such as how you can tell a '67 vs a '68/'69 due to the absence of side blinkers, etc. Great guy and 20 years later, I'm in the middle of restoring a '67 myself. Just dropped in a 383 Stroker, so I'm on my way and I owe it to my neighbor for setting me on this path.

      @ArdFarkable 4 роки тому +2

      Hey I hope the car is still going well! How far along have you made it? I have the same setup, 67 with a 383, awesome choice.

      @SKtube0 4 роки тому +1

      @@ArdFarkable Thank you. And nice! Fellow '67 owner with similar engine tastes. As far as the engine, it's perfect for me. It was built by a great company here in southern CA with my input and wants and I now have a "500 Split" or "500/500" or that's what they're calling it. On the Dyno, it's pumping out over 500 hp with over 500 lbs of torque, so I'm very satisfied with my modified small block! Right now, in the middle of switching the 'H' exhaust for an 'X' and a few more things I need to check off and then I'd consider it to be worthy of a restoration.

      Same here. Theres a classic car part store in the city that you can order anything from. Although OEM anything is super expensive regardless of how cheap it is to make. Like cmon.... $300-400 for a center console? I have 3 extra anyways. Thank god.

      Petrol heads are now waking up to the fact that unless you have deep pockets a classic is the way to go. Parts are easy to come by and the BIG one, you can fix it your self. No computer on nothing. Light out replace bulb. Nice and simple.

      Mine too, Jason. I like the sleeker '67 & '68 better than the '69, then it skips ahead to the beautiful '82-'92 which simultaneously had it's own beautiful style yet had the flavor or the '67 & '68 at the same time. The 2nd generation turned me off as did the 4th. The 5th was a fat, freaky, grotesque attempt to "copy" the '69 as a "retro" car. It looked gross from the front, back and sides. Although they did improve the awful taillights and sleek out the front end, it wasn't until 2016-present with the 6th gen that they re-did the car with sleek sides, great front & back end too. It no longer looks fat. It still has the gun-slit window to roof look I don't like. Overall, the car has it's own look and identity AS a Camaro with a 1st gen "flavor" yes, but without doing any kind of 'copy' of it.

    Like soooo many, others, a 69 Camaro would be a dream car for me... what Barrett Jackson and the collecting community has done to the market is near criminal...I grew-up with my high-school buds driving Camaros, GTO’s, Chevelles, Roadrunners & Mustangs...we enjoyed wrenching on them. We worked part-time in HS so we could keep our cars running loud, fast & looking good for beautiful girls 👍🏾. But now, one can spend $40k+ and have problems...I digress. Sadly from 2030 on all combustion cars, trucks and busses including
    classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia
    :-( In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel
    supply from 2025 on by reducing petrol stations to only one state
    operated central gas station per city or county. They even plan to
    reduce the pump speed of public gas stations from 20 litre per
    minute to only 2 litre per minute to punish owners of combustion
    cars....from 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned
    too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and
    gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on....
    So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They
    even created a completely new kind of crime here in Germany, called
    emissions and smoke crime. :-((((

    My Son has a '69 Camaro with a 427-425 HP which he had installed. Red coupe - black vinyl top. My cousin Stan had a '67 convert, another red / black top deal. Small 327 w/ 2 bbl carb.
    I "almost" joined the 'club' in 2013. A new, triple black, 2 SS, convert LOADED. There was a thousand difference on the neg. price and I let it get away. Yeah, I'm still pissed. 1969 does rule though.

    I had a 1967 Camaro which was a nice car. The weak link was the standard drum brakes, which almost got me killed a couple times. I traded that 67 in on a 1971 Camaro, and it was a better car in all respects. I’m sure some of the higher performance versions of the 1967-69 Camaro were way superior to my 71 with the 350 4-speed, but cost of the car and insurance was prohibitive then and now. Some of the versions you mention, I’ve never seen in person even though I regularly attend car shows.

    I was too young during the age of muscle cars (got license in 1972). My neighbor's brother was a manager at GM and he special ordered a dark green 69 Camaro with a 427. I thought it was the best looking and most desirable muscle car ever. So in 1981 I bought a used red 69 Camaro 396 with a manual and 60k miles. I liked it up until I bought a 1983 GTI which was 20 times more fun to drive. Didn't drive the Camaro much after that and my company moved me out of state in 1986 so I sold it to a kid and his dad for $2800 through a classified ad.

    I raced the 302 engine up against 350 on the ovals with identical rules for gear ratio, carbon, headers, intakes on a half mile paved oval. We ran the weight of the cars at 10 lbs per cubic inch. I might have lost only 1/2 a car length to a 350 on the straights. But would make up 2 car lengths in the corners with a car 500 lbs lighter. On tracks with no gear rules I ran the short stroke 1000rpm higher than my competition, and would out accerate a 350 easily on the straight away..

I got my learner's permit in '69, and got used to Mom's '66 Valiant with a 170 Slant Six and three on the tree. I finally got to drive that Camaro, and even though I made sure to go easy, I stepped on the gas and it was going 30 mph in nothing flat. I lusted after that Camaro.
    There was another Camaro I lusted after. Frank Borman lived in the neighborhood, having become the CEO of Eastern Airlines. He had a beautiful '69 convertible. I think it might have been an RS, because it had hidden headlights. It was white with orange stripes and highlights. If that car is still around somewhere, it must be worth a mint.

As you correctly note, this has driven the prices of these cars beyond any sane price range. They don't really care about the cars or their heritage. All they care about is the *money*. It's not a high performance variant, it has a 327 2-barrel 210 horsepower with Powerglide transmission. I bought it wrecked all those years ago and I'm continuing to try and keep it looking original. It has been repainted in the original Frost Green Metallic paint, and has the original wheel covers and white stripe tires. 5:38 the Camaro 350" 295 HP engine didn't have a "high performance tune"... it was just base level heads, base size valves, base level cam... common for the day 10:1 compression ratio (actually about 9.8:1) and the common Q-Jet 4 bbl. carb... Of course, make no mistake, it was fun... especially with a manual shift... in a light car...

    Sure, if I were a rich man - but I'm far from rich. I bought my '67 Camaro in 1987, and spent 31 years trying to turn it into what I wanted it to be. My first car was a '68 Camaro that I bought in '84, and from the start I was inspired by the Trans Am cars of the sixties, and I wanted it to be as much like one as I could make it. From the beginning I wanted a five speed, stiff springs, big sway bars, etc. When I saw Mark Stielows' white Camaro in the 1992 Real Street Eliminator, I saw someone doing what I wanted to do, but didn't really have the money for. But I managed what I could, and swapped it to front disk brakes, built a 406 with Brodix heads, swapped the Muncie for a Tremec five speed, upgraded the seats to 80s Camaro seats, then finally a set of Recaros, and I had a set of six piston caliper Baer brakes and Speedtech spindles sitting in boxes waiting until I had the time and money to install them. And within days of the 31st anniversary of my buying the car, it burned up, along with most of the town of Paradise, and everything else I owned. These days you're looking at spending $10,000 for a hulk of a car when it comes to first gen Camaros, and probably about forty to fifty K to get it where I would want it to be. Or I could buy a 2002 Z06 Corvette for about fifteen K. If I were rich, I'd rather have the '67 Camaro that performs like a Z06, but I'm not, so I'm going to settle for the fun car that I can afford. I love the cars that Mark Stielow builds, but I do not have the skills/resources/money that he does.

      I am so sorry to here about your loss.. It hurts just reading it! I have a 2010 SS and have always wanted a Gen 1 Camaro but with the prices I have been pushing it off. I ended up buying a fully built low mile wide body c6 with 30k miles for a good price, and I thought heck yeah! The fast, light weight, Corvette! It is a great car, but I still find myself obsessing with watching videos and checking car prices of first Gen Camaro's. I have come to the conclusion that it is fun to have a 750hp vette, but my eye will always remain on the 1st gen camaros. I will most likely sell the vette in a year or so and buy one when I can save up some extra cash! I hope you enjoy the 2002 corvette if you ended up getting one, they are forsure a bang for your buck at those prices hands down!!!

Other than that very clean. I tried with the old man since I was 18 trying to buy the car he wouldn't sell. He said he was saving for his grandson, but the grandson wasn't interested he was into import tuners and Lexus, Benz, BMW's and Acuras. He finally let it go last year to me. Only thing he asked was that I take good care of it. I haven't figured out what to do with it yet just sitting in my garage with car cover of course. Only start it from time to time and drove it to work only two times.

My friend had the '69 Camaro with the 307 and he bitched about it, but when I had it for a summer in '78, it was very quick and light. The 302 V8 for Chevy, I wonder what the foot pounds of torque was? I couldn't grab the dollar bill of the dash board in the '69 Camaro that had the 396 V8. I never rode in the 427 Camaro, but I did in the '66, 67. & '68 Corvette's and as a kid then, I might have pissed my pants on a couple of occasions with my uncle in Michigan! I could barely see out the window in the 66 & 67 Corvette's, because I was 6, 7, & 8 years old, but like it was yesterday, and like the fast cars, the stories have become behemoth's in their own right!!!

    These cars brake and steer like lumber wagons...but nostalgia helps us to forget.

    My uncle had a 69 hugger orange black top black interior . It was a RS model and was bought in Raleigh N.C. the name on the title was Molton Hales of Garner N.C. If anyone knows of this car I would like to know. My uncle had it for a short time then my grandma took over the payments. Things that happened a lot in the 60s.
