Courtney Violetta Been putting henna on my hair for over 1,5 years. Now I’m doing oil treatments and after that I’m gonna try and bleach it when most of the henna has come off😅
I’ve gone from a level 4 brown to a level 10 bleach blonde during quarantine, but I can Wait for the salons to open back up again because I am in need of a damaged hair ends trim!
So, I've used Color Oops and such for going from around the same color as you to blond, blue or brown in the past. It was actually recommended by my hairdresser as a safety net to be sure we would get optimal result when doing a drastic color change. Maybe you already know this, but for those of you who don't: Color removers and bleach won't take out henna. When there's a change in color, it's because the base under your henna is chemically modified by those products. Hair chemistry 101 about henna: Henna coats hair, chemical colors change the structure/replace the molecules of your natural hair color. Henna is like putting a translucent colored nail polish on top of already painted nails. Won't change what's under, but will change the color we see in the end. When you use color remover (like Color Oops), you need the long rinsing time cause you're actually rinsing away color molecules. If you don't, you'll still have chemicals in and it will impact your next coloration. It's to take out the internal build up of chemical dyes. It won't give your natural color back, it just takes out everything so you need to put another color in. That's why your hair is ''stretchy'' after - it's basically empty and needs to be filled in. And yeah, the smell is nasty and lingers 😂 It's actually a good idea to do a color remover BEFORE a bleach because it cuts the bleaching process time and so, the bleaching damage risk is also reduced. I'm pretty sure I'm forgetting infos, but I thought it would be useful for all of you going through cabin-fever impulse hair change phases 😄 I'm actually gonna do that soon too! All the infos I have is from my hairdresser, my own experiences and from a little bit of research through the years. Also, my mom use to change her hair color almost every month hahaha For more hair knowledge, I've also been watching Brad Mondo's channel a lot lately. Good tips and some sassiness, you should check it out. Wish you all luck with you hair endeavours!
This is so useful, thank you! I’ve been using henna for 15 years and I’m finally ready for a new hair era! I’ve just been growing my hair out for the past year, and I’m sick of the two-toned look, so I’m definitely doing to be trying some of these techniques to speed up the process and make it blend a bit better with my natural hair!
Saving this video for whenever I end up deciding to remove my henna, lol. I thought it was impossible to do and I was fully preparing to shave it on down the line when I decided it was time to get rid of the red.
I'm kinda itching to lift my henna as well and see what happens... Fiy -- NEVER start bleach or color application from your roots, start with the ENDS of your hair! xx
Thank you for this. Your experience just reinforces my conviction to never, ever use chemical dyes or color removers. I cannot justify damaging my hair and making it stretchy and dry to the point that I'd have to become dependent on protein packs. Protein washes out of your hair within weeks; it is not a permanent treatment. It took me a very long time to grow out my damage and I'm not about to go there again.
I really appreciate this video, because most henna removal video are about people who have on 2 months-a year worth of henna on their hair, so it’s a lot easier to get out. I also have 3 years worth of henna on my hair. Before quarantine it was Ariel red. I’ve been trying to get as close to my natural color as possible (dark blonde). It’s been stressful, but now I’m at a reddish brown! I did some oil treatments as well, but I feel like it took out as much as possible, so I decided to get my hair highlighted and colored, and that made a huge difference. Once the hair salons open, I’m planning on getting a balayage :).
I loved your original henna colour, but I'm really impressed by how much henna you managed to get out! I was expecting it to come out much more orange, so well done! It's actually very blonde! :) Just one thing, another thing that people need to be aware of, as well as metallic salts, is indigo. If you have used any henna mixture with indigo, even from a good quality brand like Light Mountain for example, I believe it will go green if you bleach it, as indigo is blue-based. I'm not speaking from experience, but perhaps there are people out there who can back me up on this
This is true, unfortunately. I used regular henna for a year and bleached, no problem. I used henna with Indio (50/50 mix) and I am forced to stay.somewhat dark because bleaching reveals a lot of green areas underneath
I confirm. Happened to bleach my hair where my lenghts were virgin but my tips had rests of organic henna and indigo. My lenghts became yellow-orange and my tips green. Still trying to figure out how to get rid of that green by toning it red lol
Ashley Craft I have a question because I’m suffering with the same thing.. Can henna cover this? And make it ginger? Like my hair is about black because of my mixture? If I do end up lightening it and it goes green and I do henna on top after what color do you think it will go? My goal is ginger hair
I read here forums.longhaircommunity.com/archive/index.php/t-5270.html that you can make a henna gloss using pure henna and conditioner and leave it on for 2 hours to tone out the green. Again, not speaking from personal experience, I'm not sure about achieving a ginger colour. It will depend what colour you get after the gloss
3 years of henna and I too want to be strawberry blonde. This couldnt be more timely! I also just put an order in for Sallys last night - bleach and also level 8 colors. I bought like 4 tubes so I have options ha. My hair has just been so dark and its not me. I was going to just bleach it and color it a few days later but maybe I'll consider the bleach bath. What a RISKY time to be doing all this with all salons being closed, but also a great time because no one has to see us LOL.
Currently growing my hair out for a year without cutting or dyeing so I can live vicariously through you for the moment !! Can’t wait to see how it turns out! 💓
For me it‘s a spring/summer thing. In autumn/winter it‘s easy for me to keep my hair healthy and shiny and long. And just as spring arrives, I feel ready for a change and want to have lighter hair and/or highlights or balayage ... I now have pink hair because of shutdown. I thought, when not now then never! And I actually love it!
Thank you for sharing this! Underneath a bajillion years of henna I have natural blond hair and I wondered if I could ever get even close to back. This is encouraging! I will just go for getting a few levels lighter for now.
I’ve been subscribed and watching your videos and keeping up with you since you first went platinum! You’ve inspired me to grow my hair out and my first batch of henna. I’m glad you’ve stuck out the henna for the past few years and let your hair get strong, I remember how much you used to switch it up 😂 change is good! Ofc I loved the gingery red but you go girl! Don’t let the haters who can’t get their own hands on hair dye put you down! At the end of the day it’s your hair, and no one else’s. Good luck darling!
Head and Shoulders strips the color some, so do vinegar and citric acid (can find citric acid by the canning supplies at the grocery store). It doesn't remove it, but it lightens it up over time. It brings my hair from an auburn to a natural looking deep copper red over about 6 weeks, then I henna/cassia my roots again, because I'm not actually trying to remove my henna, just keep it from getting too dark. Btw I am dirty blond underneath, so my hair will get lighter than a brunette's.
Whenever I went from henna or indigo to synthetic dyes also blue and other colours my hair were damaged, but when I go back to plantbased dyes like henna or indigo or no dying my hair is better. I used so called organic synthetic dyes without amoniac but I got allergies still. After five years being blonde my hair was damaged, I got allergies and my hair was falling-I guess no offence when you"re 20 or something you wanna do as many synthetic dyes as possible but when you"re getting older you realize how bad is it for your hair long term, Im not judging anyone I was the same in my 20s. I know I use amla oil when Im dying my hair with henna or indigo and shinkakai powder. :) When I was blonde even hair oils or hair masks didnt help me, but going back to my natural colour of hair.
I have done this too in quarantine. I was happy in the begining that I have removed my henna. But then I get worse and worse. My hair is sooo damaged, that I am thinking about using henna again, and having beutiful ginger hair again. So I recommend bleach henna for example only once, but not more. Rather grow it out. It would be less damaging...
I've used henna years ago. When I wanted to lighten it up I would use the Vitamin C method once a week. After a month of using vitamin C, I did a bleach bath and the henna was gone. I use Garnier to color my hair now. Good Luck on your hair Adventure
@@darin4i4ka I bought vitamin C tablets and would crush them up into a powder, then mix the powder with a baby shampoo. Put the mixture on hair and cover with a shower cap for 1 hr. Wash out and condition. I did this once a week till my hair was light enough. Baobob oil I use as well, only on the Ends.
Yes I’ve felt the need to change my hair colour .😐 I’m on the same process to remove henna and go back to blonde. Slowly, I will get there. I know how you feel 😊
I loved the darkish red you have or had. It was stunning. Also your haur was in good condition and the condition will change with chemical colours. I am looking forward to the result of your new colour. What is your natural colour?
Hey love!! I think this is so cool! I wish we would have covered this our cool thing you did. I think it's dope and amazing that you're showing how you can remove it because there are people who want to do that and want to play around. Thanks for the props on our brand. You're amazing and I hope we get to work together again because girl you're so bomb! xo - Khadija
Your company is the only one I trust and the only one I recommend! I was addicted to coloring my hair before henna- with every emotion I felt, I distracted myself from it by changing my hair color and since starting henna, I no longer feel that urge and I can just enjoy it! Henna made my hair grow so long and healthy and I know I wouldn't have hair like this without you! I'll definitely be back to henna again in the future 😉🧡
I loved your before color, but if you wanted to go lighter, I actually really liked the color of it right before you did the color oops or whatever. It was a really pretty golden copper color imo. Stay safe during quarantine girl!
I made also some experiments with my hair. Because of Henna I have an orange haircolour insteat of a middleblonde. First I take two packets of backin powder and wash it out. Then I take a lot of germling oil and last it for 3,5 hours. I washed it out with Shampoo and then I do some Honey with water (ratio: 4:1) in my hair and last it for 2 h. I washed it out and take some chamomile tea over my hairs. In the end I dryed my hair and there it is. The redcolour is completly away and I have nearly my natural haircolour. And there are also some gold glance in my hair. I will do it next week again but the other time overnight. But I will leave out the bakin powder, because it destoyes my hairstructure. Honey is perfect and also chamomile is.
I’ve had henna for a year and a half now and this video came out just at the perfect time! Hopefully I’ll be able to remove it without damage considering I’ve also only used pure lawsonia :)
Alright guys. I’m a big henna user. I’ve been applying it for about three years. A few months ago I decided I needed to change everything about myself and went and had my hair highlighted and cut. It turned out blonde in some spots and red in others and she ended up having to cut off the bottom of my hair because it was vibrant orange. But the middle and it turned out pretty decent and faded into a nice caramel kind of color. I hennaed over that when it grew out. Just did 2 vitamin c washes and I already have blonde streaks back in my hair. It really does work. It’s VERY drying though. Maybe use conditioner instead of shampoo?
In the same boat Courtney! I did Henna due to going mad during quarantine. I immediately missed my blonde and now I'm removing it. Now I'm going for a Lavender Look. I'm documenting it on my channel as well.
I've been dying my hair shades of red since 2004. I am/was a strawberry blonde and whenever my roots come in I'm always "I should go back to that!!" Embrance my natural maybe with a little henna/cassia before im gray! Its always a back and forth.
Your hair is so pretty! I avoided henna for years then fell for the original red and my highlights are ruined. I will follow your steps and see if I get it lighter then tone it 😂
It's not as fast of a process, but I fade my henna with Head and Shoulders shampoo or Dawn dish soap, using those instead of my shampoo. It doesn't damage my hair, but I don't have dry hair. I also find that if minerals from my hard water build up in my hair over time (like how us natural blonds get greenish hair if we swim a lot), apple cider vinegar rinses take that mineral build up out pretty well. You can also dissolve citric acid powder (usually by the canning section at the grocery store) in water and apply that in your hair to "brighten" henna. Some stores try to sell this as a way to lighten henna that has gone to dark, but if you read the ingredients, it's just citric acid, so it's cheaper from the grocery store. I have the same problem as she does that my henna, even though I mix it with cassia, gets too dark over time. Edit: After thought, maybe it fades because I have an oil scalp 🤔 So I don't even need to do oil treatments, just not wash it for a day and it is a an oil slick.
That faded copper colour is beautiful. It really suits you. I would be really happy with that. Aren’t we strange about our hair. I have been a red head for years and due to PPD reaction am now white. I don’t like the white and am considering henna but am aware of the hard work my roots will involve. If my hair goes that colour when I first henna it, then I think I will be truly happy with it. I loved the darker colour too by the way.
Hello, your video was really helpful, thank you 😊! I am in the same process as you, do you remember how long you let the colorzap stay in your hair before you rinsed it? Thank you again !
@@Sara-ok9xj yes and it worked well! Two bleaching sessions with 30v took pretty much all of it out. Left me with light orange that was easily covered with an ash dark blonde. I also didn't lose any hair and it's recuperating well from the damage. But I made sure the henna had no metallic salts and no indigo.
I just dyed my hair with henna and cassia. Unfortunately, I have to use the handshoulders shampoo. And every time I wash my hair color came out. Not sure if it is good or bad , I heard henna tends to darker hair , and I don’t want that.
hello my love! i dyed my hair with “brown” henna and it came out WAYYY darker than i anticipated. it’s almost black. would this process help with that??
How much time did it get to have that blond tone at 8:00 ? I applied Henna on a 8.66 and didn't really made it any different, so I want to wash it off to get a 7.44 on and then henna it again, but I'm scared I can't wash out the henna properly lol
I do this all the time. Swing from blonde to brown to henna. I don’t even really know why I do it - each time I say I want to grow out my natural colour but it never happens. Thank goodness I have calmed down with the hair cutting! Stress.
GREAT VIDEO!!! I'm doing to get the henna out of my hair. I put a red color in and it just came out like feels like a 60 year old women that's really dark red ugly color so I'm taking it out. Thanks for this!
Girl! I've been red henna-ing my hair for 4 years and I can't get my usual dye from Lush in lockdown so I'm seeing my natural roots grow out for the first time in years! I'm thinking I might as well experiment with a new colour and come out of lockdown as a beautiful icy white butterfly 😂 but yikes, I thought my ends would be fading more by now. I'm glad I've seen you try these tricks now I know how to do them. I'm worried about damaging mine with bleach as well and the chemicals aren't great for the body ... red looks great on you, and I love this colour as well.... but I don't know, I need something new xD
Lockdown story: 3 weeks ago I henna rouge'd my virgin blondey-browney-slightly-gingery hair and it came out so so orange. I got really upset, did 4 x 12 hour oil treatments, gave up (because sleeping with your hair soaked in oil every night is a nightmare) and then realised it was washing out at a really fast rate anyway? My hair has now faded to the light gingery tone I wanted and I really like it as it's really shiny. I think because I'd only done it once it just hadn't stuck to the hair as much as when you do repetitive treatments? Either way, I'm so happy as when I say orange, I mean ORANGE
try to mix your henna with Cassia next time! Cassia is basicly invisible but conditions the hair. 50/50 henna / cassia might give you a nice muted copper color next time 😁
I totally have the urge to color my hair, but since I buzzed my hair off almost 10 months ago I don’t want to ruin it by damaging it now. I have a dark golden blonde hair color and I will love the color when it’s a bit longer. I think the golden hair tones looks best on you, it’s really flattering your skintone, the platinum cool blonde did not suit you as well as the golden did! So my tip for you is to grow out your natural color for a few months, then tone down your hair a little bit and remove the brassiness. A more natural copper blonde would look great on you! Exciting to see how your hair ends up 😊
I’m brunette and COLOR OOPSED today...gonna color dark blonde tomorrow....we’ll see. Your hair is pretty. I put a candle in my bathroom all day right after I used it. Took the smell out, kinda.
Can an Hair colour remover remove the henna dye? I dyed my hair with the indigo (the black henna one) and unfortunately it didn't go away after milions of washing
currently also trying to take the henna out of my hair! half of my hair goes green with bleach and half goes orange.. this stuff is so hard to work with
HI dear! When it comes to henna, you are my MUSE since 2 years. I am right NOW in the process of lifting the henna from my hair. I want it to stay red, but I want to lift the color around my face a bit as I feel its too dark and I am DONE with wintery vibes. I am intending to do the procedure with 6% developer and baking soda. Please tell me ASAP if you think thats wrong!! (of course I'll do a test strand first) Sending you hugs and good vibes xoxo
@@Nikkiilss Hi, I did that, left it on for 25 minutes. It did not do that incredibly much, but didnt hurt either. I applied coconut oil afterwards, left it in for the night and another wave of red came out. Still, I did not see a drastic difference in the final results although I saw the color going down in the shower. Good luck!
Every time I put henna in my hair I always regret it unfortunately 😅 I wish I could stick to one color but so far I have proven to myself that I can’t stick to one color. Henna is for people who are 200% sure that’s the color they want to stick with. What I have learned is to lighten it a couple shades at a time, put professional dye over it that will tone out the brass, Leave it for a few months, and repeat. I just use color oops when I remove the permanent dye, then a bleach wash, then professional dye. But you only want to color your hair about 3x per year to keep it healthy.
This is a great video, thanks for sharing! How do you do your eyebrows? That is the color I want. My eye brows are blonde blonde and I dye them with Just For Men. But my hair is the color yours was with the Henna (like, exactly the same color) Thanks!!
very interesting video and I totally liked how and what you showed in the process. not too detailed but still all you need to know. looking forward to part 2 :)
I’ve been wanting to do a bleach bath to lift my base because I dye with henna on natural medium brown hair but I wish it were lighter/more copper but I don’t know how one would do a root touch up with the bleach bath technique?
You got some good results. When I tried to get my henna out, the vitamin C treatments did NOTHING. I did a few and zero results. Then I used the colour oops a few times. Did NOTHING except make my hair stink for weeks. Finally I just bleached my hair. It was a radiant orange lol. Then I bleached it again 2 weeks later after doing treatments and burned my hair off in certain parts. I got it light enough though to box dye it with a blonde colour. My hair was pretty damaged though and I had to cut it quite short. It was so long before that. Then I wished I just never bleached it and just started using a red box dye on my roots until my hair gradually grows out the henna. Maybe the lush henna is not as strong and easier to get out. I started with lush henna but found it too messy and then started buying powdered henna which I found easier to apply. Maybe that one was much stronger than lush that's why I had so much trouble getting it out.
Lush fades well, I noticed for my daughter and goes away almost completely over 6 months but I used henna guys henna powder on her rouge and that one has stuck for over a year. So yes I think some brands are much stronger, especially if they don't have the conditioner in them already. My daughter has 3b hair Locs with henna and I think I want to do the vitamin c oil and sunlight mask and see what we get, just get some blonde on her tips back without damage. We will see.
oh wow, the oil fading really made a difference! I've tried it but not with lemon juice and I didn't go out in the dun, so I will give that a try! (Trying to remove henndigo)
Nutratint natural hair dye has no bleach in it or amonia I used this light blonde hair colour to strip out my henna out my head it worked without any damage you can buy it on ebay UK or ebay USA

What make and color henna did you use - I so loved the color at the beginning x
The lighter orange tone fits you so well!!!
So, I know nothing about dyeing hair, but your previous color was beautiful and rich. This color washes you out. Your hair was also very shiny.
I admire your dedication-I can't imagine washing my hair that much. I'm hoping to fade my henna over a long period of time 😅
I have let my henna fade for 1.5 years at this point, lemme tell you it takes for ever! but nearly all henna has now grown out so i can cut if off now
Head and Shoulders strips the color some, so do vinegar and citric acid (can find citric acid by the canning supplies at the grocery store).
Hey so question. I've seen different ways of doing the vit c treatment. Could you elaborate on how you did it? Thanks
@@darin4i4ka I bought vitamin C tablets and would crush them up into a powder, then mix the powder with a baby shampoo. Put the mixture on hair and cover with a shower cap for 1 hr. Wash out and condition. I did this once a week till my hair was light enough. Baobob oil I use as well, only on the Ends.
did it take 1 month? Omggg... I wanna remove henna from my hair and I want it gone by 2 weeks..
@@CourtneyVioletta that's so amazing. Seriously! I love that and your absolutely a super dope woman!! Don't ever change, xo.
HI Khadja! lovely to see you here
I loved your before color, but if you wanted to go lighter, I actually really liked the color of it right before you did the color oops or whatever. It was a really pretty golden copper color imo.
Stay safe during quarantine girl!
Omg you’re so funny xD. You’re one of my fave youtubers from now on
Omg... your henna colour is perfect for your skin tone....
Ahh I'm excited to see how the rest of your hair journey goes!!
I started a few weeks ago with trying to remove my henna with vitamin C treatments. Might try colorzap. Your results are amazing!
This is so pretty! I can’t wait for part 2 how light did you end up getting it ?
In the same boat Courtney! I did Henna due to going mad during quarantine. I immediately missed my blonde and now I'm removing it. Now I'm going for a Lavender Look. I'm documenting it on my channel as well.
Ooooh you got this! I'll definitely go show some love on your video 💗
@@CourtneyVioletta Thank you! I'm a newbie so no one knows me.
It was so pretty at the start, in my opinion.
I love your videos. Can’t wait for part two
That faded copper colour is beautiful.
You reallllly suit red hair!!
Can't wait for the part 2!!
I’ve been doing my henna for six years and have grown tired...do you think I have any hope of getting it out?
did u do it? ❤️
Trust me you will go back to henna after all the damage
Thank you so much for doing all these videos to help me with options on what to do with my hair. You rock.
The brown henna has inositol so I would be EXTRA careful. It could turn green or purple
When you were dying your hair with henna, gave you used anything with indigo?
It worked!!! Thank you so much for this. I’m beyond happy
I used sun in
I use Color Oops once it smells so bad. And it turned my hair Orange. Thanks for the info.
Stress.
What henna color did you use before? It's gorgeous!
Did you do the vitamin C treatments back to back? Like one treatment every day in a row?
Exciting to see how your hair ends up 😊
Thanks for this lesson, your so brave. I liked all the colors of your hair, they looked nice on you
Where did you get that mountain picture behind you?! I love it!
I’m brunette and COLOR OOPSED today...gonna color dark blonde tomorrow....we’ll see. Your hair is pretty. I put a candle in my bathroom all day right after I used it. Took the smell out, kinda.
Can an Hair colour remover remove the henna dye? I dyed my hair with the indigo (the black henna one) and unfortunately it didn't go away after milions of washing
currently also trying to take the henna out of my hair! half of my hair goes green with bleach and half goes orange.. this stuff is so hard to work with
Alora Nykoluk mine went like electric blue when I used bleach
@@Nikkiilss that actually sounds really cool lol. mine just went a muted muddy green at the top and the ends were electric orange. so strange
I want to remove my henna too. It has gone too dark, but your henna hair was beautiful! How is your hair now?
Your editing style on this is killing me 😂 I love it
How do you remove the Indigo henna?
(of course I'll do a test strand first)
Sending you hugs and good vibes xoxo
milomazli have you tried it? I also got 6% and baking soda.. I was thinking of doing head and shoulders with it
@@Nikkiilss Hi, I did that, left it on for 25 minutes. It did not do that incredibly much, but didnt hurt either. I applied coconut oil afterwards, left it in for the night and another wave of red came out. Still, I did not see a drastic difference in the final results although I saw the color going down in the shower. Good luck!
Love your before colour! Did you mix anything with the henna? xx
How long did you leave the Color Zap on for??
Every time I put henna in my hair I always regret it unfortunately 😅
I wish I could stick to one color but so far I have proven to myself that I can’t stick to one color.
I LOVE your videos simply because it's PRACTICAL.
Subscribed ❤.
This is a great video, thanks for sharing! How do you do your eyebrows? That is the color I want. My eye brows are blonde blonde and I dye them with Just For Men. But my hair is the color yours was with the Henna (like, exactly the same color)
Thanks!!
Really stupid question but when ur roots grow in are they blonde.. I'm thinking of going red but scared I'll never get my blonde back
very interesting video and I totally liked how and what you showed in the process. not too detailed but still all you need to know. looking forward to part 2 :)
I’ve been wanting to do a bleach bath to lift my base because I dye with henna on natural medium brown hair but I wish it were lighter/more copper but I don’t know how one would do a root touch up with the bleach bath technique?
How long did it take to remove henna from ur hair?
I'd like to know how you got that shade red with the henna mine turned dark red
We will see.
what did he put in her hair the fourth time when it really changes the color cause i need ittt
oh wow, the oil fading really made a difference! I've tried it but not with lemon juice and I didn't go out in the dun, so I will give that a try! (Trying to remove henndigo)
Amazing result! Love your video thanks you so much👏🏻
Thank you for the great explanations. Every color you had in this video is beautiful 💕
I think the red hair looked amazing wonder why you wanted to remove it.
The henna red was definitely your color! ❤️
I feel like she needs to tone it with a blue based colour
12:20 you look so good with that hair color tbh
Nutratint natural hair dye has no bleach in it or amonia I used this light blonde hair colour to strip out my henna out my head it worked without any damage you can buy it on ebay UK or ebay USA
SO to shorten it, what do you recommend?
did you apply any heat to the color zap and color oops treatments?
I really like your energy
