I know others have said it, but I'm going to say it too: As a CLIENT, if you hop salons and stylists, you need to know everything that's been done to your hair. Note it in your phone. DOCUMENT it. Names of products, EVERYTHING. The more info you can give the person working on your hair, the better. Because stylists are NOT psychics. They can only go off of what YOU tell them, and whatever diagnostics (strand tests) they can perform. And as the video shows, even strand tests don't give the whole picture. It speaks to the training, skill, and experience of this stylist that they could recover in this scenario. I am NOT a stylist. I'm simply old enough to have experienced bad ones, okay ones, and one FANTASTIC one. I'm loyal to my fantastic one. Yes, it costs money. But I walk out looking incredible because she's AWESOME at her job. A great stylist is worth her weight in gold. ❤
True! My fave one moved, found another that was okay and haven’t gone to another yet. I know of one I want to try but I’m growing my hair out. I did ask her how often she recommends going to her for a trim if I’m growing it out and she told me maybe twice a year for a dusting. Which is what I needed to hear to give her a try.
As a hairstylist in training, I cannot love this comment enough! I wish all our clients would do this or at least understand that there is a lot that could go wrong if we as your stylist don’t have important information about your hair. What people don’t realize is that permanent treatment never wash out of your hair. They are in your hair until you cut it off. So they could interfere with next treatment that your stylist may want to do. So if you have long hair, a long history of your hair would really help. 🌸
Totally agree that as a client it is our responsibility to be 100 % honest about what happened to our hair and what we used and then listen to the recommendations of the stylist. I have very sensitive hair and wanted to get it dyed ginger after having used a more aubergine red box dye. I was honest and told it to my stylist and they explained to me why it was better to not transition at that point in time
We defo could use a lot more of these videos.These stylists were very honest and professional. Never bashed the client or blameshifted.They performed a service that went wrong due to misinformation by mistake. It happens. I appreciate them sharing this because it's not always beautiful hair, don't care.Sometimes it curl up and dye! (OK, I know,bad joke.) Ppl need to see this stuff and how it can be rectified with regular salon visits and most importantly the clients home hair routine.

I think it's important to talk about how to handle melted hair situations so clients don't freak out even more... I had an experience once where the salon melted my hair and the reaction of the stylist and her boss made me want to cry even more and had me freaking out harder. They started gasping and blaming each other in front of me. It's important for stylists to learn how to handle it and comfort their clients
This happened to me too and the stylists blamed ME! The senior stylist even said “She knows what happens when you bleach hair” because I told her I’d gone blonde before. I didn’t even let them finish drying my hair because I could see the strands flying once the air touched it. Ran to my car and cried 😂😭

High five, let me tell you it happens, asa colorist we have all been there. You did exactly what you should have communicate, be transparent and offer options. The hairdresser did a strand test and was also knowledgeable as to what she was doing following her experience and following theory. It wasn't really her mistake. This happens sometimes. The client isn't a hair expert and can give you incorrect info accidentally. Doing hair comes with unpredictability sometimes. The important part is knowing how to fix things in order for the client to leave the salon happy. All's well that ends well.
RESPECT! for putting this out there and owning the mishap. This is a great learning opportunity for all of us, stylists and clients alike. Mad props to you, you did a good job salvaging her hair.
As a stylist she could have just bleached the front again wait then do the other parts knowing damn straight she’s compromising the integrity of her hair 🙄 sis goes home puts a 400+ degree flat iron to it would fall off. So! It’s not totally jacked up she’s being honest and protecting her client from farther damage and losing lengths.
I'm a master hairdresser from Germany and you really handled that situation soooo great! Being honest and transparent to clients in such situations is the hardest thing ever cause hair means so much for people, especially for women. Every step you did was on point, the only thing i wouldn't have done is using a curling iron/straightener after that happend. A big thank you to your client as well, she really seemed to be sweatheart and handled it as great as you did. Not every client stays nice and understanding in such a situation (which i can understand as well), but it really helps to solve the problem and to rescue as much as possible. Hugs from Germany 😘🥰
I’m not a stylist but wondered the same thing about the curling iron. I do bleach my pixie short hair though and understand the difficulty of getting yellow out of my hair.

Temporarily, then the heat just adds to the damage. This girl shouldn’t have had any extra heat on her head. It’s a mixed message to the client- don’t go home and use heat, but we’re going to style you with a curling wand. Why not offer a beautiful protective heartless style instead?
This honestly applies with any type of service, there are two types of people in this world, those that own up and those that dont. Its a dreaded conversation because you have no idea how the client with react. But what ive learned is communication is everything and people normally respect the openess and honesty. As a photographer and as an artist/graphic designer there have been a couple of instances where i have genuinely messed up and either called myself out or they caught something i didnt. How you handled the situation was fantastic and i applaud you for it. You have bigger guts then most.
I had exactly this happen to me back in the 1990's. That's when I was a self employed hairdresser, visiting people in they homes. I cap highlighted our local police officers wife's shoulder length hair. I wanted to use foils however I let this lady dictate to me. I was young and not so self assured back then... I asked all the right questions ... Like have you recently had and treatments on you hair... To which she answered no... So I used thirty volume straight on as her hair was very fine... She then suggested I put her under the dryer... I said it's ok it's not cold in her we're going to be fine... She got quite animated saying that it wouldn't lift if she wasn't put under the dryer... So I quickly put some foil and a cap over her head ... Obviously checked before I popped her under for five mins on a cool setting... I knew that this would be fine and keep her happy... Her hair was dark brown so... What happened next was my worst nightmare... After only five mins her hair was ruined. The fizzing up of the bleach I'd never seen the like of in my life... And I couldn't understand Why at this point all I wanted was to DIE. Her hair was like a lump of jelly with stringy bit in... There was no saving it... Someone told me I should have put vinegar on it to try and neutral the bleach ... To cut a long story short... It transpired that her husband had used a shop brought, straightening kit on her hair some evenings before. Why she'd failed to tell me I don't know. And this information only came out some days later. I'd gone home that day... and drank the best part of a bottle of vodka. My husband found me in an incoherent mess... I went and bought her Redken products... Had to cut her hair very short... I gave up hairdressing on the back of this... Nothing one can do unless the client is honest...
Years ago I had hair her length that was chemically relaxed. I wanted jet black hair. Things went wrong at the salon and I left with a pixie cut. She’s lucky. Great job!!
Years ago I had a friend with natural platinum blond hair. She was in a play where the director wanted her to dye her hair black. She used a home dye kit and her hair turned mermaid green. Who would have thought it. Luckily her mom's stylist was able to restore her hair to blond.
Thank you for taking responsibility, I had my hair burned off, bottom half, by a senior stylist that had done my hair for over 10 years, it was awful. I'm sorry this happened to you and your client, I cannot imagine how stressful that was. Good on you for staying calm, that poor girl.
Everyone’s hair reacts so differently. I’m not sure people really understand how risky bleach is. You never know how your hair is going to react and if you’ve been growing out your hair a really long time, having to cut it off can be devastating.
I spent 15 years as a stylist and 10 years as a color tech that did a lot of corrections and it happens! There can be miscommunication and clients aren't experts on what they have done or what stylists have done on them. You can as questions and do strand tests and bad things can still go down. You reacted appropriately, took action at the right time, and you were honest with your client and that's 10 out of 10 right there! I felt the panic rising just watching so good on you and it came out better than expected. What a Rollercoaster!
Wow you guys did an amazing job, didn’t think there would be any coming bad from that 🙈 amazing work 🙌 So glad you did this video, cause we hear the other side from clients so often, but this really gave an insight into the other side and the importance of tracking treatments and honestly I actually understand so much more now and I get why my hairdresser asks so many questions, I do my own hair but once every 3 years I get my hair done and I feel like it’s a job interview haha but a hair Resume might not be a bad thing after all 😂

Where are you located. I feel like I can trust you. Have not had that in 30 plus years since my hair was fried off to a pixie cut. Long blond hair just went in for touch up root highlights. Left with one inch of black hair. I cried for months.
Girl I know exactly how this feels 😭😭😭 I literally had to walk away,cry, have a melt down, convince myself I wasn’t meant to do hair and then convince myself that WE ARE HUMAN. Clients don’t tell us the WHOLE TRUTH. We fall low, we brainstorm, and then we get up learning from our mistakes. You go girl!
Before I went to school i lightened my hair just a few weeks after I did a “just4me” relaxer 🤢! My hair got super hot, turned a weird greenish brown color, and started melting. My damage was so severe I had no choice but to steal my grandparents vodka and shave my head while “everytime” by Britney Spears echoed in the background of my pathetic sobs😢
Being upfront with your client when there is an issue is so so important. It’s scary for everyone (stylist AND the client) but when you’re honest you can develop a game plan and include your client in the discussion. It’s so much better for everyone. If you lie in the salon they are inevitably going to figure it out and they are going to be PISSED. this is such a valuable video. Hats off to you for not only your troubleshooting but your integrity.
Oh my goodness you handled this so well!!! I'm not a hair stylist, but the amount of work and knowledge you have is amazing and the fact that you pulled off a beautiful result (which it is, her hair looks so shiny and lovely) is due entirely to how awesome you are! I love that you didn't shame your client and that you're willing to put the less than perfect services online. I would definitely trust you with my hair!

Kudos for showing REAL moments...when things go horribly wrong...rather than only showing great moments with expected results. This will help more stylists than you realize. If I had to guess, they used some sort of relaxer on her hair.

Not only is it helpful for stylists, it also really brings awareness to why clients need to ask a lot of questions and really understand what is being provided during their services. Love how you handled this! Question: What is the difference between these and a Brazilian Blowout? I’m asking because I did a DIY blonde job that left my hair fried and my stylist recommended a Brazilian Blowout so I could sort of work with at least something smoother than what I had. She advised me to not bleach my hair at all for awhile… if we did, would my hair fall out like this?!?!
@@cheyenne_noelle So, from what I know Brazilian blowouts are a sort of temporary smoothing. The client in this video, from what I understand, had a relaxing service previously done. When someone gets a relaxer the disulfide bonds in the hair are broken(these are very important to the hair strength) and the curl is completely gone forever. Only growing your hair out will get rid of a relaxing service. With a Brazilian blowout it is a temporary change that just coats the cuticle. It slowly will wash off as the client shampoos. So relaxer+bleach=melted hair and lightner+Brazilian blowout=smoother hair(in most cases). So, I can’t say that “no, your hair wont fall off” because I don’t know your hair history, but if you are feeling your hair is frizzy then a Brazilian blowout might be a good option. This is something you should discuss in depth with your hairstylist. Hope this helps🤍
Many moons ago, I had a relaxer left on way too long by a recommended and licensed stylist. A couple of days later, the back half of my head started to scab. I lost all of my hair on the back half of my head, from ear to ear (that is where the relaxer sat the longest). He never reached back out to me, offered to help grow my hair out. I said I was done with relaxers, and at the time, Keratin Straightening was just coming out. It will billed as "semi permanent" at the time, with the effects eventually wearing off. Again, I went to reputable salons for this. And I found out the straightening was straight up permanent. I am so happy you did all you could to figure out what was going on, and to repair the damage had been done. That support and honestly would have been so helpful to me as a young woman. Now, I trust very few stylists and almost never go to the salon.
This is gut wrenching to see her hair with mashed potato ends but the stylists are awesome and actually really troubleshooting the situation. I love that.As a stylist these things happen and watchers should know this isn't a typical everyday problem.They salvaged her hair.Please start writing down colors done on your hair with formula and brands and any services that are chemical.It helps the stylist tremendously to know these things.
From a hairstylist, thanks for sharing this and also my heart was breaking for you! This is a very good reason for clients to find a salon they like and stick with it. Every time your hair is processed in a salon, a detailed record is kept. So that the next time you're in the salon, even if you have a different stylist, they can check your records and know what's been done before. It's so hard for clients to know 100% what's going on when their hair is being done and salon loyalty can be a clients best defence against an unexpected result like this. Nobody was at fault here, everyone involved was working with the info available to them and in situations like that you can only do the best you can.
I have had a few hair disasters at salons and the biggest difference is one stylist was honest about the damage and one who hid the damage then made their own decisions to hide it. My reaction was based on their honesty about my hair condition. The one who told me my hair was damaged and we needed to shift the entire style I understood and worked with her on the decisions and the one who hid it seen me break down in tears on the result and I mayyy have had choice words. My point is, THANK YOU for having the hard conversation with your client and making a compromise on the style. The science behind what you do is all uncontrolled variables when you are not aware of the full history of the hair, which is no fault of you or the client; science is hard sometimes. Been there done that. I did not do the initial damaging process, but i gifted my.client free, and seriously reduced services tonget her hair back to healthy. I paid out of my own pocket to correct it at the end. It took 18 months to finish. I also want to mention that after this mishap, i had a cleint for the next 15 yrs from this. When i retired, i passed her on to my assistant/ new owner and she is still a happy, faithful client. You did an awesome job! Bravo! ❤❤❤❤
You did way better than what happened to me many years ago! I was 20 years old, and went to get a spiral perm. I had long hair just like this girl. After all the curling rods were put in, the young beautician put in some concoction of solution, immediately my scalp felt like it was on fire! She starts taking out all the rods and my hair looked worse than the girl in your video. I took a piece because it felt and looked weird. I pulled on it and it was like pulling spaghetti and it just completely broke apart. The original beautician runs away! The shop owner starts rinsing my hair, and said she was going to try and salvage what she could. Long story short.. I walked out with an inch of hair left on my head. I was DEVASTATED! My scalp was damaged as well. Shop owner claimed the girl mixed the wrong products together and put that all over the curling rods and scalp. I have NEVER gotten a perm again. My icon picture is me today with my hair bleached, done by me. When I seen this I clicked on it immediately because it was a big reminder of what happened to me. I'm just glad you salvaged her hair well! For me, the ending was horrible.
@@hersheysfloyd Thanks for asking! 🙂 This was 28 years ago. I was young lol However, I had many treatments for my scalp afterwards. I never got another perm again! It took time for my hair to grow out again. I mean I walked out of that salon with what looked like a man's haircut. I was devastated! Over the years I always just used a spiral iron, and I've bleached my hair myself. Love and Light to you! Xx
My client got a keratin ’smoothing’ (definitely was straightening) treatment at a home salon too, and all I use on her hair is vibrance and 13vol… even that started having a huge reaction! Scary stuff, you’re definitely not alone !! Amazing work as always bestie xoxo

I’ve seen UK salons on UA-cam providing texture release services which piqued my interest because I’ve been having trouble getting my naturally curly hair to remain straight but seeing this video makes me a bit afraid of pursuing that now. I think they’re different than keratin treatments but idk.
These type of videos are beautiful and so educational. Also mad respect for your honesty towards the client. That can be sooo difficult, but imo that is the difference between keeping the client or losing them. Thank you for being so brave and sharing this with us. You did an AMAZING job! Relaxers are a death sentence so the fact that this client still had hair on their head is a miracle in itself. The color was beautiful & the best part is that her hair will grow back but she will definitely need to cut a lot more off. Relaxers dry your hair out like crazy on top of it being bleached so hopefully she doesn’t use too much heat on her hair.
You handled it very well. Initially when you said that ppl were going to be like “you don’t know what you’re doing” I was like “yes because you don’t” but omg I got a slap in the mouth. You did so good!! You handled it so good! And I def learned from you!
I'm not a hairdresser, but I work tech support on customer's IT environments and I have caused an outage or two over the years and I know how bad it feels when a client trusts you and things go wrong, whether it is truly your fault or not... props for sharing this, I'm glad the client was happy in the end!
All I can say is you are brave for posting this. Because of your honesty, I would have zero hesitation going to you. Her hair is obviously damaged , but that could not be helped. It looked a lot better then when she originally arrived. When all is said and one, at the end of the day she loved it. That is all you can ask for.

Yup it isn't her fault. I guess the person in the video didn't let her know she was getting keratin treatments. I've been to the salon 1 time and they asked me so many questions. Like do you use box color and when was the last time, do you do treatments etc so many stuff.
Bravo! I have been doing color correction for 30 years and it always seems the people using box complex henna dye at home want to be platinum overnight. I've had melting at the ends and usually it's because they want to be blonde so bad that they lied about what they used. Very nice work, and thank you for your honesty.

I had used baking soda mixed with my shampoo from when i had well water reading it can help with hard water on the hair, went to get my hair bleached and my ears literally almost caught on fire!!! My head started smoking, had no idea it could cause a chemical reaction!!!😮 What you gals did here to reverse all that damage was totally awesome!! Great thing she had alot of hair already it turned out beautifully👏🏼💯
You did the best you could with the information you were given afterwards. Her hair turned out surprisingly well. Like you said trust your gut. You have nothing to feel bad about. Her hair looked nice and shiny. I imagine you wanted to take more off but she walked out with a healthy looking head of hair. The color looked good on her too!!

From one hairstylist to another, it could've been way worse. I think you handled it very well considering the circumstances. I'm glad the client was also realistic and understanding too. Cause we know some are not and insist on being something their hair can't lift to. Either way the end result was still beautiful and you did a great job

I am a stylist of 25 years and I truly think you guys did a great job of saving her hair and giving her a beautiful color. We never know what is in a clients hair unless we have been doing them ourselves and many times they do get confused on what services another salon did. Great job! you guys should be very proud!

I learned very early on that bleach can play some very nasty tricks if you're not sure what's been used in the past or too much heat is applied, leading to spaghetti noodles or wallpaper paste where there used to be hair. You handled that amazingly well, what a dreadful stomach lurching moment and I've actually seen much worse!!
As a Stylist myself this is our worst nightmare.. you honestly did a amazing job considering what happened..her hair looks so good and Brilliant shine..most hairdresser wouldn't have even posted this so you really so give yourself credit...I think your amazing 🥰 xxxxx

Considering all that happened, I think the hair looks really good. Her hair looks relatively healthy despite what it went through. And your complete honesty and openness is refreshing. It's unfortunate that there was miscommunication about what kind of treatment she had on her hair which led to things going bad. Sounds like you both worked well together to find a good solution.
I mean honestly the fact that you saved it as much as you did after bleaching following a chemical relaxation is amazing to me. I remember when I relaxed my hair years after I had bleached it, and every bit that had the tiniest amount of bleached hair just fell off. Thankfully it was just the ends as it had been so long, but I still lost around 4 inches. And if you have natural curly hair you'll understand that that's a lot of hair growth and work to get back lol.
I'm a stylist as well. Ive had situations like this too. I think we all do at times. I love your honesty. You didn't not at any time shame her. We can do the best consults, cover all of our bases but it just does not go according to plan. Me personally I don't do corrective colors anymore. Sometimes it's too much of a headache. You did an amazing job
Thank you! In awe of your taking ownership and correcting the problem. Long story short, my hairdresser melted my hair. I knew immediately and told her my hair was “not right” and she told me the “texture” was due to “aging”. Apparently it “aged” during my visit to her. She said I could do a keratin treatment to “fix my aged hair”. I declined; did a consultation; and changed hairdressers. I did not want to do this. I would have preferred she owned the issue and done corrective action as you did. I’d have stayed with you 100% based upon your honesty and skill 💜💜💜 Sad my longtime Stylist didn’t respond the same. Mistakes happen with chemicals…but accountability is paramount.
Even as a client I would always ask for a test strand if I had that many extreme procedures done before and then want it bleached. Horrible, but I appreciate your honesty and effort
I get it. I do test strands in a few different areas. I wanted to cry when I saw the gummy noodles hair. 😢I get upset whenever i experience slight breakage. She really knows how to think on her feet.
She did pretty good for what she had to work with. Mistakes happen with miscommunication but how you handle yourself and the situation is what counts. We are all human and we aren’t able to communicate telepathically just yet so… until then. Anyway, most hairdressers, including myself, agree that the end result was good considering the situation during the color correction.

Looks stunning after what happened, what a comeback! Thanks for sharing, this happened at a salon I worked in a few years ago. Never really got to the bottom of it as she always had her hair coloured at our salon. Phoned the manufacturer of the products we used, there conclusion was copper piping in the water at home. She came back for a year or so we kept testing and there was still a chemical reaction so we refused to colour it still. She was desperate at that point for colour and stopped coming. I suspect she tried else where! Amazing professionalism on your part. These things are a learning curve and improve our knowledge for sure!
I think that every stylist that has ever done any kind of chemical service has had something bad happen to a client. Kudos to you for sharing, taking the hit and being honest and upfront.
I had a friend who was told she got a keratin smoothing but it was a complete relaxant. As soon as I saw her before I knew exactly why the melting happened. You did good
I know others have said it, but I'm going to say it too: As a CLIENT, if you hop salons and stylists, you need to know everything that's been done to your hair. Note it in your phone. DOCUMENT it. Names of products, EVERYTHING. The more info you can give the person working on your hair, the better.
Because stylists are NOT psychics. They can only go off of what YOU tell them, and whatever diagnostics (strand tests) they can perform. And as the video shows, even strand tests don't give the whole picture.
It speaks to the training, skill, and experience of this stylist that they could recover in this scenario.
I am NOT a stylist. I'm simply old enough to have experienced bad ones, okay ones, and one FANTASTIC one. I'm loyal to my fantastic one. Yes, it costs money. But I walk out looking incredible because she's AWESOME at her job.

True! My fave one moved, found another that was okay and haven’t gone to another yet. I know of one I want to try but I’m growing my hair out. I did ask her how often she recommends going to her for a trim if I’m growing it out and she told me maybe twice a year for a dusting. Which is what I needed to hear to give her a try.
As a hairstylist in training, I cannot love this comment enough! I wish all our clients would do this or at least understand that there is a lot that could go wrong if we as your stylist don’t have important information about your hair. What people don’t realize is that permanent treatment never wash out of your hair. They are in your hair until you cut it off. So they could interfere with next treatment that your stylist may want to do. So if you have long hair, a long history of your hair would really help. 🌸
Totally agree that as a client it is our responsibility to be 100 % honest about what happened to our hair and what we used and then listen to the recommendations of the stylist. I have very sensitive hair and wanted to get it dyed ginger after having used a more aubergine red box dye. I was honest and told it to my stylist and they explained to me why it was better to not transition at that point in time

I appreciate them sharing this because it's not always beautiful hair, don't care.Sometimes it curl up and dye! (OK, I know,bad joke.) Ppl need to see this stuff and how it can be rectified with regular salon visits and most importantly the clients home hair routine.

I think it's important to talk about how to handle melted hair situations so clients don't freak out even more... I had an experience once where the salon melted my hair and the reaction of the stylist and her boss made me want to cry even more and had me freaking out harder. They started gasping and blaming each other in front of me. It's important for stylists to learn how to handle it and comfort their clients

This happened to me too and the stylists blamed ME! The senior stylist even said “She knows what happens when you bleach hair” because I told her I’d gone blonde before. I didn’t even let them finish drying my hair because I could see the strands flying once the air touched it. Ran to my car and cried 😂😭

The hairdresser did a strand test and was also knowledgeable as to what she was doing following her experience and following theory. It wasn't really her mistake.
This happens sometimes. The client isn't a hair expert and can give you incorrect info accidentally.
Doing hair comes with unpredictability sometimes. The important part is knowing how to fix things in order for the client to leave the salon happy.

As a stylist she could have just bleached the front again wait then do the other parts knowing damn straight she’s compromising the integrity of her hair 🙄 sis goes home puts a 400+ degree flat iron to it would fall off. So! It’s not totally jacked up she’s being honest and protecting her client from farther damage and losing lengths.

I'm a master hairdresser from Germany and you really handled that situation soooo great! Being honest and transparent to clients in such situations is the hardest thing ever cause hair means so much for people, especially for women. Every step you did was on point, the only thing i wouldn't have done is using a curling iron/straightener after that happend. A big thank you to your client as well, she really seemed to be sweatheart and handled it as great as you did. Not every client stays nice and understanding in such a situation (which i can understand as well), but it really helps to solve the problem and to rescue as much as possible. Hugs from Germany 😘🥰
I’m not a stylist but wondered the same thing about the curling iron. I do bleach my pixie short hair though and understand the difficulty of getting yellow out of my hair.

Curls hide damage perfectly
Temporarily, then the heat just adds to the damage. This girl shouldn’t have had any extra heat on her head. It’s a mixed message to the client- don’t go home and use heat, but we’re going to style you with a curling wand. Why not offer a beautiful protective heartless style instead?
This honestly applies with any type of service, there are two types of people in this world, those that own up and those that dont. Its a dreaded conversation because you have no idea how the client with react. But what ive learned is communication is everything and people normally respect the openess and honesty. As a photographer and as an artist/graphic designer there have been a couple of instances where i have genuinely messed up and either called myself out or they caught something i didnt. How you handled the situation was fantastic and i applaud you for it. You have bigger guts then most.
I had exactly this happen to me back in the 1990's. That's when I was a self employed hairdresser, visiting people in they homes.
I cap highlighted our local police officers wife's shoulder length hair. I wanted to use foils however I let this lady dictate to me. I was young and not so self assured back then...
I asked all the right questions ... Like have you recently had and treatments on you hair... To which she answered no...
So I used thirty volume straight on as her hair was very fine... She then suggested I put her under the dryer... I said it's ok it's not cold in her we're going to be fine...
She got quite animated saying that it wouldn't lift if she wasn't put under the dryer... So I quickly put some foil and a cap over her head ... Obviously checked before I popped her under for five mins on a cool setting...
I knew that this would be fine and keep her happy... Her hair was dark brown so...
What happened next was my worst nightmare... After only five mins her hair was ruined.
The fizzing up of the bleach I'd never seen the like of in my life... And I couldn't understand Why at this point all I wanted was to DIE.
Her hair was like a lump of jelly with stringy bit in... There was no saving it...
Someone told me I should have put vinegar on it to try and neutral the bleach ...
To cut a long story short... It transpired that her husband had used a shop brought, straightening kit on her hair some evenings before.
Why she'd failed to tell me I don't know. And this information only came out some days later.
I'd gone home that day... and drank the best part of a bottle of vodka.
My husband found me in an incoherent mess...
I went and bought her Redken products... Had to cut her hair very short... I gave up hairdressing on the back of this...
Nothing one can do unless the client is honest...

Years ago I had hair her length that was chemically relaxed. I wanted jet black hair. Things went wrong at the salon and I left with a pixie cut. She’s lucky.

Years ago I had a friend with natural platinum blond hair. She was in a play where the director wanted her to dye her hair black. She used a home dye kit and her hair turned mermaid green. Who would have thought it. Luckily her mom's stylist was able to restore her hair to blond.

Everyone’s hair reacts so differently. I’m not sure people really understand how risky bleach is. You never know how your hair is going to react and if you’ve been growing out your hair a really long time, having to cut it off can be devastating.
You did the best you could've done at that moment, I would've freaked out completely. Bravo.
I spent 15 years as a stylist and 10 years as a color tech that did a lot of corrections and it happens! There can be miscommunication and clients aren't experts on what they have done or what stylists have done on them. You can as questions and do strand tests and bad things can still go down. You reacted appropriately, took action at the right time, and you were honest with your client and that's 10 out of 10 right there! I felt the panic rising just watching so good on you and it came out better than expected. What a Rollercoaster!

So glad you did this video, cause we hear the other side from clients so often, but this really gave an insight into the other side and the importance of tracking treatments and honestly I actually understand so much more now and I get why my hairdresser asks so many questions, I do my own hair but once every 3 years I get my hair done and I feel like it’s a job interview haha but a hair Resume might not be a bad thing after all 😂

Where are you located. I feel like I can trust you. Have not had that in 30 plus years since my hair was fried off to a pixie cut. Long blond hair just went in for touch up root highlights. Left with one inch of black hair. I cried for months.
Girl I know exactly how this feels 😭😭😭 I literally had to walk away,cry, have a melt down, convince myself I wasn’t meant to do hair and then convince myself that WE ARE HUMAN. Clients don’t tell us the WHOLE TRUTH. We fall low, we brainstorm, and then we get up learning from our mistakes. You go girl!
Before I went to school i lightened my hair just a few weeks after I did a “just4me” relaxer 🤢! My hair got super hot, turned a weird greenish brown color, and started melting. My damage was so severe I had no choice but to steal my grandparents vodka and shave my head while “everytime” by Britney Spears echoed in the background of my pathetic sobs😢

Being upfront with your client when there is an issue is so so important. It’s scary for everyone (stylist AND the client) but when you’re honest you can develop a game plan and include your client in the discussion. It’s so much better for everyone. If you lie in the salon they are inevitably going to figure it out and they are going to be PISSED. this is such a valuable video. Hats off to you for not only your troubleshooting but your integrity.

Kudos for showing REAL moments...when things go horribly wrong...rather than only showing great moments with expected results. This will help more stylists than you realize. If I had to guess, they used some sort of relaxer on her hair.

Love how you handled this! Question: What is the difference between these and a Brazilian Blowout? I’m asking because I did a DIY blonde job that left my hair fried and my stylist recommended a Brazilian Blowout so I could sort of work with at least something smoother than what I had. She advised me to not bleach my hair at all for awhile… if we did, would my hair fall out like this?!?!
@@cheyenne_noelle So, from what I know Brazilian blowouts are a sort of temporary smoothing. The client in this video, from what I understand, had a relaxing service previously done. When someone gets a relaxer the disulfide bonds in the hair are broken(these are very important to the hair strength) and the curl is completely gone forever. Only growing your hair out will get rid of a relaxing service. With a Brazilian blowout it is a temporary change that just coats the cuticle. It slowly will wash off as the client shampoos. So relaxer+bleach=melted hair and lightner+Brazilian blowout=smoother hair(in most cases). So, I can’t say that “no, your hair wont fall off” because I don’t know your hair history, but if you are feeling your hair is frizzy then a Brazilian blowout might be a good option. This is something you should discuss in depth with your hairstylist. Hope this helps🤍

Many moons ago, I had a relaxer left on way too long by a recommended and licensed stylist. A couple of days later, the back half of my head started to scab. I lost all of my hair on the back half of my head, from ear to ear (that is where the relaxer sat the longest).
He never reached back out to me, offered to help grow my hair out.
I said I was done with relaxers, and at the time, Keratin Straightening was just coming out. It will billed as "semi permanent" at the time, with the effects eventually wearing off. Again, I went to reputable salons for this. And I found out the straightening was straight up permanent.
I am so happy you did all you could to figure out what was going on, and to repair the damage had been done. That support and honestly would have been so helpful to me as a young woman.
Now, I trust very few stylists and almost never go to the salon.

This is gut wrenching to see her hair with mashed potato ends but the stylists are awesome and actually really troubleshooting the situation. I love that.As a stylist these things happen and watchers should know this isn't a typical everyday problem.They salvaged her hair.Please start writing down colors done on your hair with formula and brands and any services that are chemical.It helps the stylist tremendously to know these things.

From a hairstylist, thanks for sharing this and also my heart was breaking for you! This is a very good reason for clients to find a salon they like and stick with it. Every time your hair is processed in a salon, a detailed record is kept. So that the next time you're in the salon, even if you have a different stylist, they can check your records and know what's been done before. It's so hard for clients to know 100% what's going on when their hair is being done and salon loyalty can be a clients best defence against an unexpected result like this. Nobody was at fault here, everyone involved was working with the info available to them and in situations like that you can only do the best you can.
I have had a few hair disasters at salons and the biggest difference is one stylist was honest about the damage and one who hid the damage then made their own decisions to hide it. My reaction was based on their honesty about my hair condition. The one who told me my hair was damaged and we needed to shift the entire style I understood and worked with her on the decisions and the one who hid it seen me break down in tears on the result and I mayyy have had choice words. My point is, THANK YOU for having the hard conversation with your client and making a compromise on the style. The science behind what you do is all uncontrolled variables when you are not aware of the full history of the hair, which is no fault of you or the client; science is hard sometimes. Thank you for posting! ❤️
Been there done that. I did not do the initial damaging process, but i gifted my.client free, and seriously reduced services tonget her hair back to healthy. I paid out of my own pocket to correct it at the end. It took 18 months to finish. I also want to mention that after this mishap, i had a cleint for the next 15 yrs from this. When i retired, i passed her on to my assistant/ new owner and she is still a happy, faithful client. You did an awesome job! Bravo! ❤❤❤❤
You did way better than what happened to me many years ago! I was 20 years old, and went to get a spiral perm. I had long hair just like this girl. After all the curling rods were put in, the young beautician put in some concoction of solution, immediately my scalp felt like it was on fire! She starts taking out all the rods and my hair looked worse than the girl in your video. I took a piece because it felt and looked weird. I pulled on it and it was like pulling spaghetti and it just completely broke apart. The original beautician runs away! The shop owner starts rinsing my hair, and said she was going to try and salvage what she could. Long story short.. I walked out with an inch of hair left on my head. I was DEVASTATED! My scalp was damaged as well. Shop owner claimed the girl mixed the wrong products together and put that all over the curling rods and scalp. I have NEVER gotten a perm again. My icon picture is me today with my hair bleached, done by me. When I seen this I clicked on it immediately because it was a big reminder of what happened to me. I'm just glad you salvaged her hair well! For me, the ending was horrible.

It took time for my hair to grow out again. I mean I walked out of that salon with what looked like a man's haircut. I was devastated! My client got a keratin ’smoothing’ (definitely was straightening) treatment at a home salon too, and all I use on her hair is vibrance and 13vol… even that started having a huge reaction! Scary stuff, you’re definitely not alone !! Amazing work as always bestie xoxo

I’ve seen UK salons on UA-cam providing texture release services which piqued my interest because I’ve been having trouble getting my naturally curly hair to remain straight but seeing this video makes me a bit afraid of pursuing that now. I think they’re different than keratin treatments but idk.
Don't forget many Keratin smoothing treatments still contain formaldehyde in them so that could cause a reaction with bleach.

That can be sooo difficult, but imo that is the difference between keeping the client or losing them. Thank you for being so brave and sharing this with us. You did an AMAZING job! Relaxers are a death sentence so the fact that this client still had hair on their head is a miracle in itself. The color was beautiful & the best part is that her hair will grow back but she will definitely need to cut a lot more off. Relaxers dry your hair out like crazy on top of it being bleached so hopefully she doesn’t use too much heat on her hair.
You handled it very well. Initially when you said that ppl were going to be like “you don’t know what you’re doing” I was like “yes because you don’t” but omg I got a slap in the mouth. You did so good!! You handled it so good! And I def learned from you!

I'm not a hairdresser, but I work tech support on customer's IT environments and I have caused an outage or two over the years and I know how bad it feels when a client trusts you and things go wrong, whether it is truly your fault or not... props for sharing this, I'm glad the client was happy in the end!
All I can say is you are brave for posting this. Because of your honesty, I would have zero hesitation going to you. Her hair is obviously damaged , but that could not be helped. It looked a lot better then when she originally arrived. When all is said and one, at the end of the day she loved it. That is all you can ask for.

Yup it isn't her fault. I guess the person in the video didn't let her know she was getting keratin treatments. I've been to the salon 1 time and they asked me so many questions. Like do you use box color and when was the last time, do you do treatments etc so many stuff.
Bravo! I have been doing color correction for 30 years and it always seems the people using box complex henna dye at home want to be platinum overnight. I've had melting at the ends and usually it's because they want to be blonde so bad that they lied about what they used. Very nice work, and thank you for your honesty.

I had used baking soda mixed with my shampoo from when i had well water reading it can help with hard water on the hair, went to get my hair bleached and my ears literally almost caught on fire!!! My head started smoking, had no idea it could cause a chemical reaction!!!😮 What you gals did here to reverse all that damage was totally awesome!! Great thing she had alot of hair already it turned out beautifully👏🏼💯

From one hairstylist to another, it could've been way worse. I think you handled it very well considering the circumstances. I'm glad the client was also realistic and understanding too. Cause we know some are not and insist on being something their hair can't lift to. Either way the end result was still beautiful and you did a great job

I am a stylist of 25 years and I truly think you guys did a great job of saving her hair and giving her a beautiful color. We never know what is in a clients hair unless we have been doing them ourselves and many times they do get confused on what services another salon did. Great job! you guys should be very proud!

I learned very early on that bleach can play some very nasty tricks if you're not sure what's been used in the past or too much heat is applied, leading to spaghetti noodles or wallpaper paste where there used to be hair. You handled that amazingly well, what a dreadful stomach lurching moment and I've actually seen much worse!!
As a Stylist myself this is our worst nightmare.. you honestly did a amazing job considering what happened..her hair looks so good and Brilliant shine..most hairdresser wouldn't have even posted this so you really so give yourself credit...I think your amazing 🥰 xxxxx

Considering all that happened, I think the hair looks really good. Her hair looks relatively healthy despite what it went through. And your complete honesty and openness is refreshing. It's unfortunate that there was miscommunication about what kind of treatment she had on her hair which led to things going bad. Sounds like you both worked well together to find a good solution.

I mean honestly the fact that you saved it as much as you did after bleaching following a chemical relaxation is amazing to me. I remember when I relaxed my hair years after I had bleached it, and every bit that had the tiniest amount of bleached hair just fell off. Thankfully it was just the ends as it had been so long, but I still lost around 4 inches. And if you have natural curly hair you'll understand that that's a lot of hair growth and work to get back lol.
I'm a stylist as well. Ive had situations like this too. I think we all do at times. I love your honesty. You didn't not at any time shame her. We can do the best consults, cover all of our bases but it just does not go according to plan. Me personally I don't do corrective colors anymore. Sometimes it's too much of a headache. Thank you! In awe of your taking ownership and correcting the problem. Long story short, my hairdresser melted my hair. I knew immediately and told her my hair was “not right” and she told me the “texture” was due to “aging”. Apparently it “aged” during my visit to her. She said I could do a keratin treatment to “fix my aged hair”. I declined; did a consultation; and changed hairdressers. I did not want to do this. I would have preferred she owned the issue and done corrective action as you did. I’d have stayed with you 100% based upon your honesty and skill 💜💜💜 Sad my longtime Stylist didn’t respond the same. Mistakes happen with chemicals…but accountability is paramount.
Even as a client I would always ask for a test strand if I had that many extreme procedures done before and then want it bleached. Horrible, but I appreciate your honesty and effort
I get it. I do test strands in a few different areas. I wanted to cry when I saw the gummy noodles hair. 😢I get upset whenever i experience slight breakage. She really knows how to think on her feet.
She did pretty good for what she had to work with. Mistakes happen with miscommunication but how you handle yourself and the situation is what counts. We are all human and we aren’t able to communicate telepathically just yet so… until then. Anyway, most hairdressers, including myself, agree that the end result was good considering the situation during the color correction.

Never really got to the bottom of it as she always had her hair coloured at our salon.
Phoned the manufacturer of the products we used, there conclusion was copper piping in the water at home. She came back for a year or so we kept testing and there was still a chemical reaction so we refused to colour it still.
She was desperate at that point for colour and stopped coming. I suspect she tried else where! Amazing professionalism on your part. These things are a learning curve and improve our knowledge for sure!
