With knives like that, (spring assisted), I fold back quick by pulling the switch and and using the side of my leg to fold it bk in...two hands not required.
Take the pad off of an old palm sander and cut a strip as wide as needed and Gorilla glue it to the smooth handle side. It will keep the knife from slipping in your hand when you use the flipper and will give a better grip when pulling it from a pocket if the clip is tight. My not be pretty but is very functional.
My my ozark axis knife broke one of the omega springs. Just after 3 weeks of gentile use. I'll pick up some replacements. The bigger problem with these knives is the pivot screw only has a torx on one side, so depending on the individual knife you may not be able to take it apart. [EDIT] See Frank Salems comment below to remove the pivot... worked like a charm!!
I picked up the last Kobalt three pack at my nearest Lowes for $10. The knife is shocking. It feels heavy at 6.35 ounces but it is built like a tank and it has one of the sharpest blades out of the box that I've ever bought. It took hair off of my forearm with ease. It is therefore capable of a very fine edge. I'm more than impressed and this knife is no slouch. It won't be my EDC but I'll use it for food prep from time to time and other things. The lock is very strong and very impressive to me.
hey Jeff i think a cool project or DIY solution for @10:36 would be to "file frag" or if u got the means, mill some grip into at least that bottom scale to give you that traction you need to bear down on the lock
Just picked up the Ozark Trail. My functioned correctly, but was a little rough out of the package. Working it open and closed 100 or so times while watching tv smoothed it out.
Here is a fix for free spinning pivots: Open the blade and press the flat side at a 45 degree angle with a table top. Make sure you protect the table top. With one hand apply pressure to the blade and with the other hand turn the screw. Or open the blade and press the flat side of the blade against the edge of a table keeping the blade flat and applying pressure to the handle with one hand and adjust the pivot screw with the other. This works all the time.
Thank you so much Frank! This worked instantly. What a great tip. I really appreciate being part of a community where folks like you willingly share their knowledge to help people learn and solve their problems. Thanks again!
Haha you gotta love the human mind others still scratching theirs. Your tip so simple and very effective. I love how we all see things so differently this was more than likely just common sense to yourself likewise my brain see things and to me it’s just common sense. Till we say or try to explain only then do you realise it’s not! Have a beautiful day my friend
Thanks a million for posting this comment Frank!! Totally worked with my Ozark / axis lock knife. I used just a little force too. You basically use the side-friction force to grip onto the pivot while you unscrew the torx screw. My knife busted an omega spring. I was able to fix it with parts from a second (part donor) knife. I was racking my brain how to grip onto the free-spinning pivot!!
Thanks for the heads up on that Lowes Kobalt three pack. Sorry I couldn’t get the Walmart axis lock knife but.. the two utility knives on the pack are a little wonky, but gifted one to a coworker, and the flipper is a nice blade bit of a boat anchor as far as weight but for 10 bucks it was a good deal. Thanks.
I had the Kabolt one . I loved it ,didn’t have any issues with it not staying close. I lost it and wish I could replace it without by the three pack because the box knives it comes with are shit
Good stuff. My Ozark snaps back ok but is still far from smooth. I may try taking it apart, seems easy enough. I didn't want springs popping out on me.
I beat the crap out of mine on camera to put the “it’s crap” argument to sleep. It even went on a drop test. From a car at 70 mph. It’s a damn good beater.
I'm curious if anyone with a drill press would be willing to drill out some holes in the steel liners to lighten up the knife a bit. 😆 I have 2 of these and they don't appear to have any significant problems but they're both very rough with opening and closing. They're essentially 2-handed knives unfortunately.
Thanks for this video! I'm wondering if you could tell me whether you had any trouble getting the Ozark Trail pivot screw out? I have one and really want to take it apart but since the back side is free spinning, I can't get the pivot screw to come loose. I've tried several things to try to keep the back side of the pivot from turning while I unscrew the front, but to no avail; the whole assembly just spins and never comes loose. If you could share how you did it on yours, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!

I went to lowes and found a pack of 2 folding utility knives, I would like to see a review on them, I like them very useful, legal to carry at my school, but I would like to hear your opinion
If it’s the Milwaukee brand 2 pack they are very good utility knives, just a little on the heavy side. Tip, look for the package that says 6 in 1 as one of the tools has a bit driver and bottle opener built in. 👍 I got mine at Home Depot.
@@TinyIslandMaine mine are very light I call them utility knives because that's what it says on the box but they are really just box cutter knives, they are small and compact great for carrying around, I keep one in my pocket and the other in my tool box
I knew you where going to strip a screw on the Walmart knife because back when they where selling the good ones with G10 for 3$ and change i used to be in the habit of taking apart every knife i got cleaning and lubing the pivot and every single time i found a bad screw on 7 different Walmart knives I've simply accepted the fact if you open one up it will strip

I just replaced my boker kalashnikov deep carry clip with the clip off of that Ozark , works great
I just bought that Walmart knife, apparently I got a good one. I was impressed at the sharpness. I passed the paper test with flying colors.

@@MuvoTX I'm glad I could help. I remember how excited I was 5 years ago when someone showed this to me.
Looked for the Walmart knife a few nights ago in Neenah, Wisconsin and must be sold out. I’d love to check it out so I’ll keep looking.
I found just one at the back of the displays, might need to dig around in the box a little
Fixed both of mine. Thank you!!

Great video, very easy to understand. Thanks.
Wanted to find one of these but no luck at my Walmart
Good to know ‼️
Good stuff. My Ozark snaps back ok but is still far from smooth. I may try taking it apart, seems easy enough. I didn't want springs popping out on me.
If you take it completely apart the put back can be difficult on axis lock knives. Just a heads up.
For the 9.98 I paid for the 3 pack it's still well worth it for the lowes knife set. Good video!
Just video Colonel!!
Can't find either knife locally. :(

I can’t find those anywhere at Lowe’s or Walmart in Iowa 😂
Nice good information!!
Just curious. What size torx bits did you use to remove the scale?

Good video!
The washers on the Ozark are so tiny they hardly support the blade
You could tell the Kobalt wasn't locked closed by the axis lock without opening it up by watching how the axis lock bar doesn't move upon close.
Picked one up today! Great $6 copy. Just need to loosen the set screw a little to get the lock to operate more smoothly.
Good info 👍

Life is too short to carry 6 dollar knives.
👍
Good explanation of how these work. 👍🏻 Pity the spring assist is needed for the detent. At least you tried.
yeah I was disappointed to say the least lol
Because it depends upon the assist spring this knife may have been released before BM's patent expired.
This works with some assisted opening knives.
